Bachelorette - potential for spoilers

Who do you love and who do you hate?

I love Peter, Kenny and Josiah.  I like Diggy and Alex, but I'm not sure they're long term contestants.

Too many of the guys are too young in my opinion, like Dean - he's 12!  And what's with all of the guys I don't remember - Anthony who?  Adam what?

I hate Lee and Eric, and Iggy is now on my shit list too.  What's up with the competition to be the guy who runs to Rachel the most with house drama.  I thought we lost that with Blake and Lucas.

Speaking of Lee, I totally forgot he was the racist text dude (although it now explains why I didn't like him from day 1) until the preview last night when he's clearly starting shit with 2 other black guys.  Please tell me he's gone next!

  • Ahhh that preview for next week! I was like OF COURSE that's why Lee's racist Twitter has recently come to light. But I hope Rachel saying something about how people will be mad at her doesn't mean she keeps his racist butt around any longer.

Me too...that comment could go either way - is she going to be accused of taking the black guys side because she's black or will she be accused of selling out and picking the white guy.

I really like Kenny, he seems like a genuine, stand up guy.  Lee is clearly manipulative and enjoys angering people - which to me gives me the creeps and makes me wonder what else he is capable of.

Chris Harrison is on the record stating they didn't know about his tweets, and he knew it was Rachel before coming on the show.  I somehow don't believe they didn't look at  his  twitter.  According to him, he was interviewed for a year before the show, and his most recent disgusting tweet was June 2016.

Ugh that's such BS. There was someone on Twitter who said she had tried out previously for the Bachelor and they wanted access to all potential contestants' social media accounts, which made her withdraw her application. I seriously doubt they didn't know about him.
  • I'm glad she sent that guy from her childhood home.

That was the most awkward kiss.

It's hard for me to keep all the guys straight so early on. Some of them are so forgettable. But I do love Josiah. Adam, Dean, Alex, etc - they all seem like the same dude right now.

I also loved the way she handled the Demario situation. I feel like previously bachelorettes would have let him come back. I feel like Ali did this.

Right? I like the one who spoke Spanish and the hot one who wore the weird pants on Ellen, and I dislike tickle guy.

I have never been a fan of the show but I really like Rachel.
  • I just read Lee's tweets. And HOLY SHIT what a disgusting person! Hopefully he'll be gone soon.

Oh yeah, he's a piece of shit.  And to @ahoywedding's point, they probably knew and still put him on that show.  That's disgusting at minimum and dangerous at maximum.

My H said he felt the last episode was degrading and hypocritical because women would be up in arms if The Bachelor had women mud wrestling.  I understood his point, but reminded him that most of Nick's group dates involved bikinis, beaches, pools or boats.

Yes, many of the dates for women have involved bikinis. I think it was Ben's season where they skied down a hill in their bathing suits?

Hilarious that it's degrading for men to take shirts off and mud wrestle when when on the Bachelor have been stripping for various dates for years.

Go easy on him.  He's a newb that only started watching last season and spent every episode waiting for someone to dump Nick.  He's still learning.

ETA:  I stopped at Juan Pablo and just picked back up myself.

  • I can't stand the WHABOOM guy!!! No idea if he left yet, I'm an episode behind but that guy is super annoying and obnoxious.
    Wedding Countdown Ticker
  • Rachel is a goddamned queen and it's disrespectful as hell that the casting director allowed Lucas, Blake E, and Lee within 100 yards of her.
  • Kenny is growing on me!

i am not here for Eric though.

Twitter is abuzz about Bachelor in Paradise being cancelled due to misconduct between Corinne and DeMario. I mean, between those two what could possibly go wrong?!

Ben Flajnik's, yea, I remember that.  I have a problem with dates like that on both the men's and women's side. JoJo's season was one of the worst, IIRC. She had her guys stripping and then there was also the whole telling awkward sex stories group date. There was one episode in Juan Pablo's season with two women having to go naked to raise awareness for causes. I think it was rescue animals? And a few seasons back, I don't remember who, but all the women went topless to make "art" of their busts for "charity" or "awareness raising" or some crap like that.

Also on Ben F's season, Ben said he was was disappointed in an interview that when they were in the jungle, only Courtney went topless under the necklaces of the jungle women costume while the other women kept their bikini tops on. Dude, just say "I wanted to see everyone's tits." Be honest and drop the "I wish they would embrace the full experience" crap.

ETa: Kaitlyn's season with the sumo wrestling where that one guy's balls were out? Pretty sure Andi had a stripping date too.

I'm just reading a TMZ article now. So apparently Corinne and DeMario hooked up (they're saying "sexual acts") in the pool, and production was uncomfortable with what happened. Uh. You send all these people to a tropical destination and feed them alcohol. The whole point of the show is for these people to hook up. I don't understand why they'd shut down production for this.

At first it sounded like a potential date rape situation, but now they're pushing that it was consensual so I'm with you - what's the big deal?  This is the same show with the fantasy suite after all.

  • Yeah I think no way do they shut down production just cause of a little pool sex.
  • I just hopped back on Twitter for an update and according to someone a producer sued the show over misconduct after witnessing what was described as "soft core porn" in the pool between DeMario and Corinne.

  • Do you think DeMario is going to pretend he doesn't know Corinne now?  :D

But seriously, there HAS to be more to it than just "drunk sex acts," right? That's basically the whole theme of BiP!
  • My co-worker said she read in some article that a camera person took issue with what they saw, and that they were threatening to sue the producers.

But again, I don't see how this is an issue. This is the whole premise of the show!

I read a rumor that the person asked to stop filming and was told by a supervisor they had to keep shooting. I guess you could sue for being forced to film that?

I guess maybe it depends on exactly what kind of contract they sign.
  • I don't see how whatever they did could be worse than the douchey couple last season or the season before where it was obvious the girl was giving the guy a handjob in the pool.
  • According to TMZ, Corinne is stating she was blacked out and did not consent.
    image
  • I'll have to go back and find the article but I saw this morning that multiple producers thought someone should've stopped Corinne.

Between this and allowing Lee to be on this season, I'm seriously questioning the integrity of the producers. Sure, drinking and debauchery are fun, but when you intentionally cast and allow unsafe behavior it's something else.
    image
  • Important to note that one can be blackout drunk (thus unable to consent) and still appear lucid or "into it". Corrine has stated she has no memory of the events.

Totally agree that there is a sick environment that allowed the casting of Lee and the continuation of Corrine & Demario.
  • Is anyone else bothered that the production company did the investigation instead of turning it over to police?

No- I think they investigated it as an employer, and that whether or not the police investigate is up to whether anyone reported this to the police and asked for an investigation. Any time you've got allegations of a workplace environment that's potentially sexually hostile an employer should be doing an internal investigation.
