Re: Wah Wah Wah Wednesday

  • UGH!! You guys! I totally forgot that not only do periods suck, but they come once a month! :(

    Sure do, like clockwork.

H's negotiation team decided to stay until they were done so they're ordering pizza and we're not going to the game. I guess I'm revisiting last nights wine bottle.

  • @thisismynickname, thanks!  I sent you a PM.

@redwoodoriginal, I checked out some of the menus at the Lockwood, but the prices made me scared to click on the dinner menu, lol.  With that said, I liked the food on their bar menu.  That was where I saw the charcuterie plate you mentioned.  It had already peeked my interest, so I will put it on the "definite" list.  I was also excited to see a lobster roll.  I know it's not New England, but I can't get those at all in NOLA.

I also keep seeing "fried cheese curd" on menus, including at the two eateries in the Palmer.  I've only had cheese curd once...and it wasn't fried.  But I liked it, so I'm intrigued to try fried cheese curd, lol.

not when you get old.      I get pretty pissed when I have a period after 5 or so months without one.  Because, you know, they come on without warning.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.

The worst! We were in Rome several years ago. I hadn't had a period in months (like 5-6). I didn't even think about packing supplies. Yep you guessed it! Started in Rome and had to find tampons and light pads (not to be gross but the beginning was so heavy just a tampon wouldn't do).

I want to say I appreciate working someplace where 1-everyone (even the guys) are adult about this and 2-there's a basket of tampons at the guest services counter I can just hand out if need be.
Oldjob, I handed them out, but I bought them and it was my personal stash.
But I am always glad to be able to hand things out w/o having weirdnesses
  • My favourite restaurant is closing this Friday. H has been going there for 14 years and I've been going there for 8 years. I'm so sad!

Agree that periods suck ... loving my Mirena! I haven't had one in months!!!!

My job has a big box of them in our break room area too. And to the bolded that's how I feel about pumping, everyone knows I'm doing it and in the odd chance a meeting runs over people are super apologetic about it and even the guys are like oh I know you need to do that, no weirdness or anything

The mill only had cheap tenpins. They used them in the boiler and were just a bonus to offer. I was the only one of the age to use them.

Im still pissed at the guy who barged into my office while I was pumping. The door was locked. He called twice, knocked twice, then got a key and let himself in. I told him each time what I was doing, but he insisted the drawing was an emergency. Bastard.
  • It's been 2 years since I've had a period and before that I was on Seasonique so I only had one every 3 months. Everyone I work with knows I pump, but they still are grossed out by it. I had one guy (youngest in the bunch) say "Does this mean I have to deal with your titty milk in the fridge again" when he found out I was pregnant again.

@6fsn What did you do? I think I'd have called HR about that one.

This is why I'm glad I work with women who've had kids. They'd get it.
Men - even the most knowledgeable - tend to be uncomfortable

Agree calling HR for 6fsn, but also, I'd have told HR about the titty milk comment too. What the fuck? I believe employers of a certain size are required by law to accommodate nursing mothers, so these men can go fuck themselves.

(My employer put in a special nursing room several years back. My office has a door but also a window wall so nursing in my office is out. I have to check it out as I anticipate being back from maternity leave come November.)

The company I work for is very fond of nepotism and the person who said it is the service manager's son. Nothing would have been done about it and it just would have made for an awkward work environment for me. When I came back from leave with Mouse, I spoke to HR because she wanted to ensure that I had a place to pump. I do, but it's really inconvenient. My boss told me I could use his office, but that means displacing him and advising him every time I pump. There's a room upstairs that I could use, but it's inconvenient to get to, so I use the bathroom. I'm the only female here, so it's usually clean.

I'll just say things were a lot different 8 years ago wrt nursing laws and general education.

  • @short+sassy what hotel?  I'm guessing Congress?  Have fun and thanks for the heads up.  BFF and I are looking for a weekend getaway to plan!

Not Congress, The Palmer.  Though I think Congress had some good prices on Hotels.com also.  We'd love to meet up with you guys, if you all can make it out.  We're actually going from a Wed.-Tues., but the weekend dates in the middle of our trip are 8/25-8/27.

I've been reading up on The Palmer and apparently it is 145 years old, this year.  It is also where the first brownie was created.  So, you know what is going to be for dessert one of those nights ;), lol.

we stayed at the palmer one night for a night downtown. LOVE it.  We recommend it to all who go!

Ha!  Ha!  Nyah, nyah!  Being old has its perks! :p

  • I do have to admit- 32 weeks into my first pregnancy and it is damn nice not having a period. While I'm not particularly enjoying pregnancy, not bleeding every month is awesome. That tampon box is collecting dust in my cabinet! I'll also take a bit of round ligament pain over monthly period cramps for sure.

I *love* the Palmer!  The lobby is breathtaking.   And Chicago is a food town...so it's hard to go wrong.  ;)
