How was the weekend?
Nothing much here. Spent Saturday spreading 52 bags of mulch and going to 2 baseball game. Sunday was church and a day at the pool.
This morning at 10 DH gets the official offer (including salary) from the company leasing his department. At 11 he meets with the current company to discuss options to stay and get his termination papers. 5 years this has been going on and these last 2 hours are killing me.
Re: Monday
Good luck to Mr. 6!
DH's cousin is getting married this coming weekend. I've been against going because of the timing (our summer schedule is jam-packed), but DH was insistent about going, so whatever. Now DH has to work Friday night, but he's still wanting to try and make it to the wedding (3 hours away). I'm all:
We also were approved for the puppy! I pick her up today. We didn't really want to take custody until next week when we're back from Phoenix but they don't do holds and we're not letting another bulldog get away from us. MIL is going to stay here, so wish me luck she doesn't reorganize the whole house and try and teach me more about how to be a better housewife, but honestly, she's probably the best person to dog-sit in the home, especially during the transition period with the cats.
And we have no idea what to name her. Our cats are Truman and Kennedy so I wanted Monroe and H is a hard no. So we switched to first ladies and can't decide between Barbara (Bush), Abbey (Adams), Lucy (Hayes), or Dolley (Madison). Then we started thinking of other women in politics, and added Ruthie (RBG) to the list! Feel free to help me vote! (I'll log in from my phone and upload a pic).
No word yet from the mechanic on what is wrong with my car. They had it ALL day Friday, but were too busy to even look at it. Ugh. The suspense continues.
Now, I'm not just worried about the cost of repairs, I'm worried how long it is going to take to get my car back.
This weekend was okay. For some reason I decided to follow the strongest margarita recipe on earth and I paid for it all day yesterday. I got called off of work this morning (yay) but I still might go in to do some paperwork. A whole 12 hours without pay hurts too much to miss entirely. But this actually works out well because I have two huge tests Wednesday and I was worried about having any time to study. Now I have today to get some of that done.
Saturday afternoon DH told Chiquita the news and she took it well. We told her about how people will be sad and will need hugs and she seemed to 'get' it.
Sunday DH gave Chiquito his second hair cut and the dude looks super cute. He needed it and with the wake and funeral this week, I"m glad he's looking presentable.
Ending on a good note, Chiquita and I are BOOKED FOR DISNEY!
This weekend was hot hot hot. I took advantage of the AC on Saturday and cleaned the house - which was way overdue. I wanted to go over to the garden store and get some more gardening done, but it was way too hot, so we took the pup for a hike in the woods/swim in the pond in our neighborhood.
And we got our new dishwasher installed!!!!! I love it.
Yesterday H went out and bought a ton of popsicles and a kiddie pool for me. I got to sit on the deck and get some much-needed sun while dipping my feet in the pool. It was amazing. I was worried about being preggo in the summer because I love getting fresh air and enjoying the sun, but now I'm looking forward to my remaining 10 weeks.
Friday - we ended up finally getting a couch from my granny that we've been trying to figure out how to get {too long for our car} then headed to M's mum and stepdad's place for food.
Saturday - mum and I went to a farmer's market nearby.
Good news; saw they sell the jam I bought at a different farmer's market. Same place, same price. Just super close
Saw a 5 day old baby. Omg so small!
Bought honey {zesty lemon and a chocolate} and pie lol
Swung by my place to drop stuff off, then we went to thrift store. Not pregnant but super emotional apparently. We flipped through baby stuff - her coworker's wife just had a baby - and I started getting teary because the clothes were so cute.
I hope I'm not like this when pregnant lmao!
I ended up crashing for an hour before M and I went to ikea for patio furniture.
Only 4 chairs are set up so far.
Sunday - not much. Lazed around, then hit Costco. Wasn't too busy, but people don't fucking look! Nearly crashed into people so often ...
Today I'm getting passport photos done so I can mail stuff away tomorrow!
WHAT ABOUT NORMA!!! Marilyn's real name
@banana468, I'm so sorry for your loss. But that's great to have Disney booked!
@kimmiinthemitten, so cute! I was just reading the Friday post a little while ago and was worried because there wasn't a dog featured on your link anymore. I was thinking, "Oh no! I hope they didn't miss out on another puppers." Glad to hear the pic is missing because you all snatched her up! I'm partial to Dolly or Ruthie.
Skype interview this morning went really well so hopefully this one works out.
@kimmiinthemitten I like Lucy or Ruthie. She is so cute! Good luck with your MIL.
our weekend was good, pretty average. Drinks with a new couple on Thursday, drinks with regular friends on Friday and dinner with them again on Saturday.
DH brought up kids again and it caused me to spiral into a bout of overthinking which morphed into a couple days of low mood, depressive thoughts. Yesterday was really tough, like sitting on the kitchen floor crying tough. Then today, DH woke me up with breakfast in bed, fresh squeezed OJ, and the dishes all done. He is so wonderful, it just filled my heart with so much love that I had a really productive day today with no negativity.
Tonight I am going for another lesson. As a Ramadan special, the barn is offering free lessons the day after your normal lesson so I will be riding 4 times a week for the next couple weeks.
DH's offer came in. Mainly really good, more money, comparable benefits (some actually better), health benefits are cheaper with a lower deductible, but there's now a $15 charge for non-preventive health visits (primary visits used to all be free). The retention bonus is crap.
@banana468 sorry for the loss and yay for Disney.
@MissKittyDanger you probably will be but people expect it.
We went Saturday and bought new furniture for the living room, dining room, and bedroom and new mattresses. H embarrassed me by getting mad about the delivery charge. He kept saying (loudly) that he figured since he was spending $10,000 they'd do free delivery. Mouse was done with the shopping and was running around being a typical heathen toddler. PG was done and screamed any time I tried to put her in her car seat. I was done, too and just wanted to go home.
Sunday, I packed. I'm not getting very far, but I'm doing it alone so I'm not too hard on myself. We went to buy water shoes for Mouse since they do splash day every Wednesday at daycare and last week he went out in his tennis shoes. I think they're still wet.
We went and looked at the new house yesterday and still love it. I took some pictures of the plants for my mom and she's starting to get excited. H and I decided we're going to do a combination housewarming/40th birthday party for me next month. I'm not sure he realizes that means HE has to plan and invite.
Today, more packing when I get home. Yay.
FYI I feel you on the packing. Popped up on Time Hop that we were packing to move from one apartment to another. That was a damn mess.
Are you guys moving the stuff or getting movers?
@short+sassy, sucks about the car. I hope you get it back real soon. Do you take the bus for now?
@kimmiinthemitten, congrats! SUPER cute. Yeah, I dunno about names. I'm no help.
Friday DH and I saw a local production of Chicago. I loved it. I was singing it ALL WEEKEND long. I want to go back actually, before it ends it's run on the 18th. Even if it's alone.
Saturday we went to the cubs game and spent more money that I budgeted for on lyft rides (stupid surge!). I wasn't happy. We then saw "It comes at night"..... Don't waste your money. I kept on waiting for something to happen. Nothing happened.
Sunday we grilled out and I was about to clean my house and do laundry when DH got a call for work earlier than expected. We had to drive to his terminal to drop off his car, which is a 6 hour adventure. Take out the word adventure.
@banana468 sorry for your loss. Yay for Disney. I think. August down there kind-of sucks.
@short+sassy - bummer about the car.
@kimmiinthemitten - yah for being a bully parent. They are such PITA, but so much fun too!!! I'm in a Bulldog FB group. PM me if you are interested. Warning, it's cuteness overload with all the pictures. However, you can get some good advice from others.
Saturday I picked up my niece. All is good. The director had her come in last night with no real direction. She asked about when she could come in again and the assistant told her to call the director in the morning (he was off yesterday). So she planned on calling him at 9am.
Well at 8:40 I got a text from DH that she is going to train at the half-way house today. Although I didn't get it until 9. Umm, those girls start at 8:30. She doesn't have a car and I'm on top of a mountain hiking. WTF????? So I had to basically run down the trail, pick her up and then take her to work. She got there just before 10.
Everyone has strengths and weaknesses. This new director's weakness is lack communication skills. Also he likes to dive in head first without checking the depth.
@CharmedPam, yep, I'm stuck taking the bus until my car is fixed. Which means I have to get up 30 minutes earlier and I am NOT a morning person. The bus ride home takes 15-20 minutes longer.
All in all, the bus is actually a pretty convenient mode of transportation for me, because I only live about 5 miles away from my work (as the crow flies). But that doesn't mean I'm not going to be a pouty special snowflake about it, lol!
I forgot I'm going this afternoon to do a personality assessment for a potential employer. Wish me luck.
Car update:
I'm so upset right now, I'm even feeling a little physically ill. They can't even give me a definite quote yet, but it is going to be several thousand dollars. Never in a million years would I have guessed anything like that.
Here's what's going on. I've had some problems with water intrusion in the car over the last few months. I just assumed it was getting the carpet wet. Which I'd sop up each time as best I could. Annoying and something I needed to figure out and get fixed, but nbd.
Apparently that was the sign of a very big deal. I guess a lot of the car's computer(s) and circuit board(s) are in the floor. The mechanic told me the bottom of my car, under the seats and under the floor, was just filled with water. All of that wiring/computers/circuit boards are corroded. They'll need to take out all the seats and the flooring, etc. And probably have to replace all of that sensitive equipment and wiring under the floor.
He actually said it looked like the car was flooded and I should call my insurance company. So I did that. But, I was honest with them (of course). That, although it is within the realm of possibility the car was flooded...ie, it is a low car and I live in a city where there can be really high puddles when it rains...but I know the car has never sat in flood waters.
The insurance said a rep for my claim will call me by the end of business tomorrow. And there is the other rub. My mechanic made the good point that he doesn't want to touch the car any further, in case my insurance wants to send out an adjuster. Which I can only assume they will want to do. So it might be days before these major repairs even get started.
As another aside, until the mechanic is able to take the seats out and do a more thorough investigation, he still doesn't know WHERE this water intrusion is coming from. So sickening. Because obviously THAT is important to know also before the car gets fixed. I'm worried they won't find a definitive answer.
I am really sad and really bummed. It is so much money and just coming out of nowhere. Obviously, I'm hoping the insurance/adjuster finds the car was flooded and pays for the damage. But I feel like it is more likely the repairs are going to fall on me, since I can't point to a specific instance of flooding.
I had a slightly similar thing happen a few years ago when I still had my SAAB. Luckily the computers and other electronics weren't affected - other than some wires that had to be replaced because the water kept making them short out. BUT at first glance it looked like the water was coming in from the floor, which made no sense, because there was no dripping from above and the door gaskets were fine. Ultimately I needed to replace the cabin air filter housing & gasket - and it wasn't that terribly expensive. I hope for your sake it is not as costly and time consuming as they are making it seem!!
That's my question, too. Possibly the insurance company could total it.
I was thinking "no", because I bought the car for a pretty good deal about three years ago. I bought it for $14K.
But now I'm feeling even more bummed out. I checked out the current Blue Book value for "fun". In "Very Good Condition", which is what it was before all this, it is only worth $7K.
So, I don't know. Maybe I wouldn't want to fix it, if the insurance doesn't come through. I guess it depends on what the final quote is.
I'm Bumping and Knotting now more than ever because work is slow. And the crazy thing is, work technically wouldn't be slow as there's an acquisition occurring, but I have a strong hunch I'm not being given assignments because of my impending maternity leave. I have one solid responsibility that's about 20 hours a week worth of work, and there's an expectation of one-off investigations that haven't been popping up (which is actually good)... but I could be pitching in more on team stuff. I told my boss that and he acknowledged it. But I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't want to give me projects I may not finish and he's just not saying it.
So now I'm bored.
