Re: I can't even - TR

  • Does John McCain sound SUPER old and kind of out of it, or is it just me?

Right?  I was on the treadmill when my mom texted me "McCain is a jackass."  Like, is he so out of it that he can't differentiate between the Clinton email investigation and this one, or is he just trying to muddy the water, and thinks everyone is too stupid to understand?

    Not just you at all.

  • From what I'm discerning from Facebook and twitter is that Republicans believe he is innocent of collusion, dems think he's guilty of obstruction and everyone is worried about Johnny boy, except Trumpeters who are still mad at him for being a POW.

OMG, this is getting good!  Trump's personal lawyer must be collecting big bucks for letting his client make him look like an ass!
    "He's a liar!"
"No, HE's the liar, and a leaker!"
"He didn't do nuttin'!  It was some other dude!"
"Well, the President wasn't under investigation!"
"Well, maybe he wasn't, but he will be now!"

  • I am a little concerned McCain suffered a stroke today.  :\
  • I yelled out loud in the car during the McCain portion.   If this wasn't real life it would be a bad Abbot and Costello sketch.

Wait...is this the nicoleg?  Or just a coincidental SN?
  • Heffa, the one and only.  ;)  It's been slow at work.

    What's up, Mama Leg?
  • Now that I'm back in my safe space (tongue in cheek) here is my favorite quote I've heard from yesterday:

“We have this big messy wonderful country where we fight with each other all the time, but nobody tells us what to think, what to fight about, or what to vote for, except other Americans. And that’s wonderful and often painful. But we’re talking about a foreign government that - using technical intrusion and lots of other methods - tried to shape the way we think, we vote, we act. That is a big deal. People need to recognize it. It’s not about Republicans or Democrats. They’re coming after America, which I hope we all love equally. They want to undermine our credibility in the face of the world. They think that this great experiment of ours is a threat to them. So they’re going to try to run it down and dirty it up as much as possible. That’s what this is about. And they will be back. Because we remain - as difficult as we can be with each other - we remain that shining city on the hill and they don’t like it.”

    Legit question:

Sessions just said he cannot and will not violate his sworn duty to protect private conversations he's had with the President.  He can't openly discuss classified information, but surely all Presidential communication isn't legally private, right?

PS Sessions is clearly angry and blaming Franken for his "misspeak" during his confirmation hearing.

ETA here is the exact quote:  "I cannot & will not violate my duty to protect the confidential communications that I have with the president."

  • I did see recently that because Spicey said any tweets Drumpf said was official, his ban on certain countries was turned away in courts because they went through his twitter.

    Hahahaha

Side note: longest he's gone not tweeting since becoming prez? 42hrs

  • I can't bring myself to watch that. I'm way too much of an animal lover.
  • @OurWildKingdom It's a link to the article, not the video.  I'll copy and paste the bulk of it below just to keep it safe!

Republican state Rep. Mike Moon of Missouri posted a video of himself slaughtering a chicken on Monday to spotlight his new bill to ban abortion in the state.

In the Facebook video, Moon breaks a chicken’s neck and rips its heart out while explaining to the camera that Gov. Eric Greitens (R) has called lawmakers back for a special session this summer to limit abortion. Then, wearing a blood-spattered white t-shirt, Moon announces his own legislation.

“So we’ve been called back to this special session for the primary purpose of supporting life, protecting the unborn specifically,” he says. “I think we need to get to the heart of the matter here. So today, I’m filing a bill that will lead to the stopping of abortion in the state of Missouri and I hope you’ll support it.”

Moon’s bill would “require due process of law before the life of any human, born or unborn, is ended prior to natural death,” effectively outlawing abortion in Missouri.

Under current state law, women must have a state-directed counseling session and then wait 72 hours before being able to have an abortion.
Some commenters on Facebook were disturbed by Moon’s video and his implication that slaughtering a chicken is similar to abortion. He replied that he “wasn’t trying to make a comparison” ― but then followed up with a tweet that makes that very comparison.

“Some people seem to be freaking out about the chicken video ... I wonder if they know what an abortion is?” Moon Tweeted.

  • Now that I've recovered from the shock a little, I'm going to logically counter his point (gross).

Most abortions, I think like 85-90%, are done in the first trimester.  As simple as a chicken is, it is actually a substantially more complex animal than a 3-month (or less) fetus is.

So, no, I actually don't see the comparison at all.  Which just makes Moon a person who cruelly tortures animals.  Isn't that the sign of a psychopath?

I'd say people would be insane to vote for an animal-torturer, but then we elected a President who bragged about sexually assaulting women.  So I already don't have much faith.

    -----------------------------------------------------------------

Another point I want to make, although Moon's focus on this bill was about abortion, if you read this gist of it...it sounds like it will also make assisted suicide for terminally ill patients more difficult.

  • That is disgusting.
  • I heard about the shooting in Virginia and tried to google "US shooting", big mistake. Google was like 'Which one?'

66% are done in the first 8 weeks, 92% in the first 13 weeks. Less than 1% are done 20 weeks or later.

    ETA I'm a data nerd.

Right and all those 'late term'/20+ week abortions that white, male, conservative lawmakers people get all up in arms about are usually done because the fetus is incompatible with life.  Since anatomy scans are done around 18-22 weeks, that's when abnormalities show up that aren't found through any previous testing.   I can't think of one story I've read or heard of personally where a pregnancy was terminated past 1st tri for any other reason than there was a health concern for the mother or baby. (I know all this is generalizing, but I don't have the exact data and plus, IDK how much accurate data is out there about 'late-term' abortions because it's so taboo and no one wants to talk about it.) Also, I'm not even going to get into our abysmal (3rd world) maternal death rates.  *sigh*

But you know, wimmen need to simmer down with their expectation of science-based healthcare and options to control what happens with their bodies.  Make those babbies and bring me mah nuggets and tots!

Exactly. And many doctors won't even perform 20-24 week abortions, even if there are complications (and absolutely won't perform them without complications at that stage). But who needs science.

Also Texas now has maternal mortality rates higher than most developed counties and in-line with less developed countries (similar to Mexico, China, Russia,  higher than Chile, Turkey, and even Saudi Arabia and Lebanon).
  • Rep Moon is a disturbed man. "Don't mind me, I'm just doing an interview on abortions and mutilating a chicken (for no reason), but I'm not trying to draw a comparison."

This was something else I find very concerning about this bill.

I'm picturing a terrible scenario...where a couple or woman just found out that the baby they've desperately wanted and have been looking forward to...has something horribly wrong with it and an abortion is the best and kindest medical option for everyone.  Including the fetus.

Except now this couple/woman has to go through the additional trauma of APPEARING BEFORE A JUDGE, to get PERMISSION for a recommended medical procedure.

And maybe that judge is a fan of politicians who rip the hearts out of chickens.

  • I'm having HoC flashbacks/deja vu feelings with the shooting that happened today and the fact that Drumpf is the one who announced the shooter's death.

If you've watched the recent season, do you know what I'm referring to or am I not making sense?  ;)

I just finished the recent season and I think I'm following... Man, I don't think he could stomach the shit that Frank Underwood did. Trump is a clueless moron masquerading as a powerful person. Even if he found out that a suspect died in custody under suspicious circumstances, he'd be like "Tremendous! Like on TV? This is totally like on TV... You know I've been on TV. Very famous. Anyway, I KNEW this happened IRL! You wouldn't believe it, but I'm right all the time. All the time."

OH I know that Trumpster Fire couldn't actually do it...but I just finished HoC and am feeling all unsettled and paranoid.  LOL ;)
  • I'm so done with this state i could vomit.  K and I were talking about moving to StL for some things that would boost her various endeavors (and I'm moveable to anywhere really), but with what the MO Legislature has done and is threatening to do to StL with supposedly "small government supporting conservatives" is bullshit.

I have already told nearly everyone I know who did the double whammy of voting against expansion of Medicaid and then voting for Trump that they deserve every single thing happening to them.  Far too many of my friends fought the good fight to keep those two things from happening b/c we were all afraid of this shit.  This is your bed, you like in it, we're just pissed about being here.
