  • @short+sassy  change in vehicle is always weird. We went from a saturn car to ford suv/cuv and it was like "Whaaaat!? So much space!" lmao
  • @short+sassy congrats on the good insurance news!!!!!

The biggest difference I have ever felt was driving a Honda Civic for 9+ years and then my next car was a Kia Sportage.  But I still had the Honda for awhile and would drive it for one day, about every two weeks, to keep the battery charged and all that good stuff.

Every time, after being in the Kia, I felt like I was only sitting about 6" off the ground in the Civic.  It was such a strong physical sensation, that I would have to keep logically reminding myself that I really, really wasn't nearly as low to the ground as it felt.

  • I've had one hell of a day.  Driving into work I found out a friend was one of the victims in this mornings shooting.  We went to a small school, and days like today remind me why.  Most of the day has been spent on the phone or in group FB and text messages with people I don't talk to enough sharing information and stories and brainstorming ways to help the family.

Thankfully, the long term prognosis for friend is good, but long.  The part that gets me the most, is he is the most above the fray political type you can meet.  He has a way to find common ground with anyone on anything and values people and relationships.  He was there helping "coach" the team since he's no longer a Capital Hill aide and rumor has it he ran towards the Congressman, which surprises no one who knows him.

  • @kimmiinthemitten I'm so sorry about your friend! I'm glad his prognosis is good though.
  • @kimmiinthemitten, so sorry to hear about your friend. Glad to know he's going to be (physically) all right. Scary.
  • I'm very sorry about your friend, @kimmiinthemitten. Sad to say, this probably won't be the last incident and a lot more innocent people are going to be at risk.

My morning was good, but my afternoon since about 2:00 has been useless productivity-wise. So glad FW and I are going to a meeting tonight.
  • @kimmiinthemitten I'm so sorry about your friend. I'm glad you had your other school mates to reach out and get comfort. I hope he recovers quickly.
  • @kimmiinthemitten, I am so sorry to hear about your friend!  It's just horrifying.  It feels like the world is becoming a scarier and scarier place.

If it isn't shoot-outs related to crime, it's shoot-outs and bombings related to terrorism/political extremism.  So many innocent victims.

I hope he has as swift a recovery as possible.

  • @MissKittyDanger re: bell peppers.

What?!?  Now I have to defend the bell pepper.  @MissKittyDanger, though I am sorry they ruined your salad.

Lots of people like the taste of bell pepper, including myself.  That is why people use them.  And even if someone doesn't like the taste, their texture when raw is awesome.  Crispy.  Like a healthy potato chip.

In fact, that is largely what I use bell peppers for.  I love potato chips, but find bell peppers to be a much healthier and almost equally satisfying alternative.

Not as much a fan of cooked bell pepper.  I like it in fajitas, but will pick it out of other dishes.  NBD, at least for me.  I could see texture being an issue when they're cooked.  I don't think they have a strong odor at all when cooking.

  • @short+sassy I'm the opposite. I hate raw bell peppers, but I like them cooked. I make chicken fajita pasta quite regularly that has bell peppers in it and love them.

    @kimmiinthemitten I'm so sorry.

Peppers are evil.  When I was 4 I was in daycare for the first time.  They served peppers for a snack.  I didn't want them.  They told me if I didn't eat them I wouldn't get to see my older brothers and sister again.  Bastards.  The people and the peppers.

That is seriously messed up!  What is wrong with people!

When I was 4, I had an unfortunate incident with a soda.  Some of it went up my nose and I was very emotionally scarred from that, lol.  I REFUSED to drink anything with carbonation for years.  I think the first time I was brave enough to try soda again was in high school.

Well now, it was delicious.  No wonder so many people seemed to like soda, lol.

  • I love bell peppers, raw or cooked.  But that rant is fucking hilarious.

@6fsn, that is FUCKED UP to say to a 4 year old.  Wow.

@DrillSergeantCat, what is this fajita pasta you speak of.  My family would probably eat it up and ask for seconds.  ;)

Another fucked up story- I was 8th grade coming out of anesthesia from a tonsillectomy and crying hard for my mom and brother. The nurse punched me and told me if I didn't shut up I'd never see them again. Another nurse heard and LIT INTO first nurse.

My mom thought I was just hallucinating a little but nice nurse confirmed it.
  • @kimmiinthemitten I am so sorry about your friend. That's awful.

  • Where in the world did you grow up @6fsn, a Russian training camp?

    @6fsn your stories are horrifying.

But seriously @charlotte989875 I cannot stop laughing at your question.

This made me belly laugh, even on a day like today!

I'm not against bell peppers, it's just like ... sometimes there is WAYYYYYY too much! In my damn salad, there was too much. Buy a stirfry and there will always be too much.

M and I made steak wraps for Easter and we had bell peppers in them. Because we made them, there was a good balance of food vs bell pepper. Gave good flavour but not huge amounts!

@mrsconn23 here's the recipe I use. It makes a LOT. It's enough for H and I to each have a big bowl for dinner and lunch and dinner the next day.

eta the recipe. I'm not awake yet.

  • @kimmiinthemitten, so sorry about your friend.  It's so crazy how something like that can go down in a heartbeat.  How is he doing now?

re: bell peppers, while I wouldn't say they replace chips...I buy the huge costco tray of veggies and they have like 3 bell peppers in there to dip into the ranch sauce.  I wish they had more bell peppers than broccoli (yuck!) but if I'm going to be honest with myself, I'll never make my own veggie tray.  Costco has that power over me.

  • Costco has that power over me.

    Truth.

That could definitely cure the "OMG, chicken again?!" chorus.  ;)

It's sooooo good. Even my brother who doesn't like bell peppers asked for the recipe.
