Wedding Woes

Wednesday

It sounds like BIL will be coming home tomorrow.  Squees all around.  ;)

Vacation opened up for the first day of school.  I'm tempted.  I really want a shopping day. I have a GC to my fave boutique from Mother's Day.

Of course our fears of DH's schedule and stress going to shit when going back to the day shift look to be coming true.  Ugh.  I feel like a broken record, but He. Needs. A. New. Job.  I found a promising one and I hope he applies for it.

At least DH got his bonus.  We need to hire a plumber and the kids need shoes and school supplies.

Going to a $1 movie this morning and the pool this afternoon.

I'm trying to get my ducks in a row for vacation too.  Lots of moving parts the DH is oblivious to.  Tomorrow Kings Island and overnight in Cinci.  Saturday am, take kids to my folks an hour south then come back.  Sunday drive to our adult vacation.  Come back Wednesday.  Friday go back to pick up the kids.  Saturday 20 of DH's high school friends and families are coming over.   I've packed the kids, bought the food and Kings Island tickets, booked the zipline and the canoeing, scoped the hikes to takes.  We all need haircuts too.

He has managed to book the hotels. Oh and bought a new soccer goal that's supposed to be delivered today.  It's massive.  I don't know if it folds down, but it's a like 9' x 18'.

It's a new fiscal year and there's a bunch of funding available so I've got tons of work to do too.

Good luck with the H's job search @mrsconn23
@6fsn, you sound busy! Good luck hosting all those people!

Speaking of vacations, we're planning our 2018 already (DH's job needs them in by November for the upcoming year, so I Like to plan super early).  So far we have a cruise from San Diego to Vancouver booked.  I am SO excited.  The price was really good. It's for Holland America, which I know is a smaller ship (I'm OK with that) and I remember @CMGragain saying the food was good. So that's a plus!

We will be spending the night before the cruise near the San Diego port, but we also have 2 days to play with before that and I was thinking Las Vegas or Phoenix or even Los Angeles.  Southwest can fly into Vegas or Phoenix pretty inexpensively, so it may be one of those two.  Any ideas?  Something to do in a 5ish hour radius of San Diego for 2 days?

    This week has been cray!

Today I'm WFHish and it's well deserved.  H has union stuff at the school all morning (those lazy teachers over their summer breaks </sarcasm>), and then when he gets home we're doing some much needed yard work and starting to power wash the house because - the landscapers are coming early next week to redo our hideous front flower bed!!!  I'm so excited, except the house has to be power washed first.  I'm not paying someone to install something pretty in front of our dirty ass siding, nor am I risking the pretty installation by powerwashing after.

So yesterday felt like drama, and it wasn't, but I hate that it felt that way.  As most of you know, I'm a salesperson in a male dominated field (we have 3 female salespeople out of about 35 and that's pretty industry leading).  Yesterday morning, I learned that a lead was called in to a manager for my territory and asked that I not work on it.  After discussing with some other people, said manager took the lead and ran with it, while trying to figure out why he didn't want me on the account.  We got the order, they put it in my name anyways and called me.

Unfortunately, what none of them knew is that in the past this coworker has made disparaging comments about me because I'm a female.  I didn't report it, because I could handle it, although around the Trump-pussy time I decided I was no longer sitting on harassment and would report it (eta) anytime it happened in the future.

I'm not mad at the management team for their decision to walk before they run, had they known this guy accused me of getting by on my looks they would have told him to screw off and given me the lead.  So yesterday included a bunch of meetings with angry Kim and starting an HR investigation into the douche.

    image
  • wow @kimmiinthemitten, I'm SO glad you got that investigation started on him!  What a douche is right.  I'm not saying our sales team is perfect, but I feel like there's not that much sexism in our office, thankfully.  It's astounding sexism still exists but it does :(

  • I've got a job interview today with my friend who has been trying to get her boss to hire me for 2 years so fingers crossed.

@kimmiinthemitten Wow. That was some drama. I hope that dude gets what he deserves.
  • @kimmiinthemitten  Jeez, glad you reported him!

    @DrillSergeantCat  vibes :)

I had a horrible day yesterday and just felt miserable. I've been fucking up at my job, and idk why but it has to end. I'm putting my job at risk.

M started tidying the basement because he's making the workbench soon. He needs it done, and his buddy that's suppose to help him works 6 days - so essentially he's doing it himself. He needs to get some tips though.

Tonight M is gone to football game with his stepdad, so I'm likely vacuuming the upstairs and then likely watching youtube or netflix .... pretty lazy night. Maybe I'll do some meditation. After yesterday, I need calm and figure out how to fix the problem.
  • @kimmiinthemitten, wow, I'm sorry to hear about what an awful situation that is with that client's contact.  Whatever happened with the sales job at your friend's catering company?  Are negotiations still in the works?

@DrillSergeantCat, good luck with your interview!  I know you've mentioned before your friend how has been trying to wrangle this opportunity for you.  Hopefully an interview means there has at least been forward progress!

@CharmedPam, that cruise sounds amazing!  There is SO much to do in Southern CA.  You only have two "bonus" days.  Is there any particular reason you want go to Las Vegas or Phoenix?  Sure, the flights are only 60-90 minutes long.  But once you account for getting to the airport, waiting for your flight, getting to somewhere fun at your destination...you've easily eaten up 3 hours of a day.

I've never been to Phoenix, so I can't comment on that.  But I grew up in So. CA and have been to Vegas a dozen times (though not recently).  I could seriously write a novel of things to do, but here are some highlights:

    • San Diego -- Balboa Park - beautiful scenery, lots of museums; San Diego Zoo is one of the best in the world, it is indeed amazing; Gorgeous beaches to hang out on; LEGOLAND is in the northern part of the county (I think it's in Carlsbad?)
    • Orange County -- one county north of SD.  More gorgeous beaches, I think Laguna Beach is especially noteworthy and at least used to be a trendy artsy community (I assume it still is).  Knott's Berry Farm.
    • Los Angeles -- It would seriously be faster to fly to Vegas or Phoenix, than drive here from San Diego, lol.  Many years since I've been here, but I'm assuming Rodeo Dr. is still some fun, fancy, and expensive shopping.  And Hollywood Blvd. is fun and funktastic.  I always strongly recommend checking out what studios are filming what and when.  And then go be part of the studio audience.  If you've never been in one, it's a very cool "behind the scenes" look at tv show productions.  It's more like watching a play rehearsal than watching a tv show.
    • Las Vegas -- Honestly, one of my favorite things to do in Vegas is to slowly walk up and down the strip.  Popping into hotels and awe at how they are decorated to fit the hotel "theme".  I know that sounds dorky, lol.  But seriously, Las Vegas hotels are like nothing you've ever seen.  Really elaborate.  And some of them have fun attractions that are related to their theme.  The water show at the Mirage is free and not to be missed.  In the Downtown area, which has the older hotels and casinos with usually better odds/rules, the Freemont Street Experience is awesome.  It's a giant light show at night that happens above that street.  So many great shows to see.  Pick your fave.

Well...at least I kept it to a novella, lol.

  • I ended up working in an industrial complex yesterday in a warehouse with no data signal, no a/c, and no good air flow.  So it was awful!  We were there boxing up material that now belongs to our client after they bought out another company.  I was literally just standing around and calling out the names of reports for indexing and was sweating.  The 3 of us powered through and got to eat at one of the best diners in NJ.  I haven't been in a long time because its not close by, I usually hit it up when I'm working out of the office because its near a major highway artery and easily stopped at to the places we commonly visit.

I'm back in the office in my a/c today.  We also have another food truck today!  It's a cheese truck!  They have mac n cheese, grilled cheese, cheese fries galore!  I keep looking over the menu and changing my mind.  My work husband is paying for me today since I am basically broke and I will pick up his tab at the next food truck.

Tonight is yoga.  I also have ribs in the oven ready to start cooking this afternoon.  H loves his BBQ.  Last night a commercial came on for BBQ and he said "I wish we weren't house pour, I want BBQ."  We had ribs in the freezer, so I'm making them for him today as a surprise.  He will walk into a house smelling of BBQ.

Just read through Tuesday as well. . .

6 - Hugs all around for you, your family and friends.  Enjoy your upcoming vacation.

Varuna - Sorry the drama is infiltrating your circle of friends by some terrible people.

MJL - Who knew you needed to be sponsored to buy booze in UAE, I just learned something new!

MrsConn - Welcome back and take that shopping day!

    DSC - Good job vibes!

Kim - Glad that you are reporting that co-worker!

  • Mini-vent:  I cannot wait until my parents move back to their house full time.  My dad is losing his shit over the most random things and I know it's stress related.  But he's driving the four of us (my sisters, mom, and me) BSC with passive-aggressive texting and freaking out over things that can be easily squared away with talking it out.

He needs a cigar and a scotch stat.

    Here are some suggestions:

    • Identify the underlying problem.  Have you been distracted lately?  Tired?  Not feeling well?  I know this last one has been true for at least a few days this month.
    • Are they just stupid mistakes?  If so, start double checking what you are doing.  Even if you're busy and that takes longer.  Because, if you think about it, it's much faster to fix a problem before it "goes out the door", than it is to have someone else find the problem, send it back to you, and then you have to redo the work.
    • Or are they more fundamental mistakes and/or things you are confused on?  If so, then perhaps you need more training in some aspects of your job responsibilities.
    • (edited to add this) Do your mistakes have common denominators?  Maybe it would help to write out/have a checklist of all the steps for a particular process.  And/or commonly missed steps.

There is a joke in the construction trade, but I think it can be applied to a lot of industries:

Do you want it fast?  Do you want a low cost?  Do you want high quality?

    Great, pick two.

yes, I think Vegas might win over all because I just love Vegas, but every time we go we spend a buttload of money.  2 days can still do some damage!  I don't know what we want, is pioneertown fun? we're not much for sun/sand/zoo's either.  Museums, yes, and if we make it in time I'd love to take DH to the Martitime museum of SD.
Those are some good tips/recommendations.  I always forget driving near the L.A. region is a PITA.  I was there around 3 years ago for a conference but didn't do anything touristy.

Ah, jealous of everyone's vacas coming up! We usually go somewhere tropical in the winter, but with the cross country move, and upcoming wedding, I don't think we'll get to this year :(

Really effed up my knee.. I'm not the most graceful person and I smashed it off the door frame when walking inside last night :'( Hurt like a bitch, and I literally sat on the ground rocking back and forth for a solid 3 minutes

Anyways, today I can't bend it well and going from sitting to standing is literally impossible. Boo.

  • I am minutes away from being baby free and I am so excited. Seeing my bff was nice, but I am totally over being around babies. I have school today and then I work the next six days in a row. Send help. Tonight is the first night I'll get to see SO since Saturday. I feel like I need a margarita.

@apollymi I run into door frames all the time!  I'm so afraid I'm going to accidentally do it while holding my baby one of these days (or worse, hit his head or something)
  • I know I don't post much here (Will fix that).  Just wanted to share that my parents had to put down our dog,  Meggie, today.  She was 13 and had a good life.  I saw her a few weeks ago and gave her a big hug because I had s feeling it would be my last time to see her.    :'(

  • @levioosa  have a double ;) 6 days sucks

Oh, I wouldn't know anything about that (@short+sassy says with a cherubic smile and halo...and a pointy devil tail just peeking out from her skirt)

I'm not familiar with Pioneertown, but I looked it up.  Do you mean the town in Yucca Valley that look like an old west town?  Eeehhh...I don't know.  That is a lot of driving into the middle of nowhere.  Unless it is something you all would be super keen on...or want to also spend some time in Palm Springs (I think that is nearby)...I'd pass on that.

For a somewhat similar experience (and since you like museums), but different time frame, I'd suggest visiting one of the Missions instead.  A lot less time consuming.  Starting in 1768, Father Junipero Serra headed up the CA coast building missions.  There are 21 of them today.  One is right in San Diego and there is another one about 60-90 minutes north in San Juan Capistrano (Orange County).

Oh!  I forgot to mention, but there is a passenger train that runs up the coast.  It's actually pretty fun.  You could board it in San Diego.  Have beach scenery to San Juan Capistrano.  And the stop in that city is walking distance to that mission.  The train also continues up to L.A.

Some other things to do in that direct area is there is a nice harbor in Dana Point.  Nice place to walk around and dream about owning a boat someday, lol.  And there are shops and restaurants there also.  There is also this little hole in the wall, authentic Mexican place called Olamendi's.  Right across the street from the beach.  It doesn't look like much, but it is an institution that has been around for decades.

Back to San Diego.  If your H likes maritime stuff, there is a place called (I think) Seaside Village.  Shops and restaurants along the water, but there are also a lot of Naval ships docked in that area.

Driving from San Diego to L.A. is a good 2 hours...and that is with minimal traffic.  But get stuck in rush hour and you can double/triple that time.  In fact, my sister lives in north SD county, but her H works in L.A.  He shares an apartment with a coworker and only goes home on his two days off.

Hi Ladies. I've been enjoying my summer. A few dates, babysitting my cute niece, 2 small road trips. Just chilling.

Back on my clean eating for the most part. Ha.
2 weeks until school starts. Man, time flies.

Guacamole, sorry to hear about your dog.

  • Hugs for both Guac and Leviosa.  So sorry to hear about both pups!
  • @apollymi, I do that a lot too.  I also love the Family guy bit!
@levioosa, how does freedom taste? Sorry about the dog :(
@holyguacamole79, glad to see you back in these parts.  Sorry about your parents' dog.  Never easy.
    @NOLABridesmaid.  Seriously?  Already that time?
@short+sassy, I think we're going to ditch the whole 'rent a car" thing and fly into Vegas, and then fly into SD.  Less hassle and I have a lot of SW points and credits to use.  I always wanted to stay at aria because I heard the beds were amazing.

  • @holyguacamole79  sorry to hear :(
    @levioosa  you too :(

    Hugs for departed puppers <3
  • @CharmedPam so good. Cats >babies. Lol. I just saw my kitty for the first time since Saturday. No drooling, lots of purring, entertains herself...that's about the amount of commitment I have in me. Haha.

Thanks for all of the hugs everyone. I feel really bad for my parents. They're so upset.

Wish I could hook you up with a free room at a Harrahs property in Vegas!  They send me offers like that all the time.  Never mind they, of all "people", know I haven't been to Vegas in 10ish years.

For "classic" Vegas, I enjoyed the impersonator show at the Imperial Palace.

I've seen Penn and Teller in both their Vegas show and when they performed in NOLA.  We really enjoyed it, but it was a mistake to see twice.  Even though there were a number of years between seeing those shows, it was almost exactly the same.

I've also seen other more random shows (showgirls, comedians, etc.) and the entertainment has just always been great.

I think the Aria is new, since the last time I went.  It doesn't ring a bell.

I never thought I would go to Vegas again, but now I'm having nostalgia.  Maybe I'll consider it again when I'm retired and have more time.

My H and I always joke that dogs and cats are great.  Because they're cute, perpetual toddlers...but you don't get arrested for leaving them home by themselves.
