Wedding Woes

Marvelous Monday!

Only because H is in town for his interview today and it's my birthday!

I feel like I've missed so much this week! Friday I had an interview for another job, that I might take to supplement the pay for the non-profit research I'm doing. Both employers would be cool with it but it would mean working essentially two full time jobs.

All our stuff is in the apartment and starting to get put away. The complex gave us the wrong keys so I was locked out for an hour and a half last night and the receptionist was basically like "this happens all the time it's no problem". No, no it's a big problem. Ugh, finally got in and lost all motivation for unpacking so I re-watched Parks & Rec.

How was everyone's weekend?

Re: Marvelous Monday!

  • Wow, two jobs?  I wish I had your energy!  Good luck to Mr. Charlotte.

I hear you on the unpacking.  I did an ungodly amount of laundry this weekend, but it's finally done.

DH was home with the kids Friday, so when I got home, they were already at the pool.  We ordered pizza (delivered to the pool!), but between the time we ordered and when it arrived, DS had a full-on meltdown.  Poor kid was tired and jetlagged, and hadn't had a nap.  I took him home, DH and Wooz brought the pizza home, and it was pretty much food and bed for all of us.

Saturday our HOA threw a movie night at the pool, which was fun.  The kids loved it, and it turned into a singalong, because apparently all of the kids have seen Moana 1346 times.  (DS alone watched it 3x on the flight home.)  Kids conked out within minutes of getting home--we barely got them out of their swimsuits and into pajamas.

Yesterday Mr. Heff wanted to run to IKEA for office shelves, and we ended up getting DS a chair, lamp, and bookcase for his reading nook, where we used to have the glider when he was rocking-age.  My kids are getting big, sigh.  But he loves it--he reads all the time, so it's a lot more functional than the glider was.

I left my phone at home and I feel crippled. :(
  • Happy birthday @charlotte989875! Y'all have so much going on right now with your careers...good luck and all the successful vibes to you!

@Heffalump - IKEA is so dangerous. It's like Target...I go in for hairties "I am here for hairties. I am here for hairties. I am here ONLY for hairties." $150 later.....

We were OOT this weekend and DH is in Chicago for work this week. We did NOT leave the house clean when we left, which is always one of my goals. It's just going to be one of those fly-around-like-a-crazy-person weeks. But we are finally home this weekend with no plans (HALLELUJAH!) so I'm already looking forward to that!

  • Happy birthday, @charlotte989875!

This weekend was OK.  I worked Saturday and the boys helped FIL pick out a new camper.  Yesterday, my family came over for my mom's bday and we had dinner.  My house is so clean now.  I hope we can keep it that way.  It might be possible since my kids start school Thursday.  ;)
  • I'm so excited for this Monday because the landscapers are here!  By days end I will no longer have a rock pit front flower bed.  We won't be the white trash yard, I can hardly wait.  The down side is Rosie keeps checking in on them through the window and then coming back to "report," and H is super chatty this morning so they're both annoying me.  I do work when I WFH ya know.

Happy Birthday @charlotte989875 - I hope part of your birthday gift is a job for the hubs so he can move too!

@Heffalump I think kids ability to rewatch the same thing may be in my top 5 list of things that make me unsure if I could be a parent.  I watched Trolls twice in one week and was like "enough already!"

We live 15 minutes from our local Ikea so we luck out and never have to go on the weekend, but yeah, I always find some trinket or 90 that I must have!

  • I am on day 5 of 6 straight days at work. It's too much. I might have had a meltdown last night when I realized I never turned in something for one of my classes. It was the straw that broke the camel's back. Between the stress of dealing with the babies, the dog, school, my dad, getting sick, and then working six days in a row, something had to give. I don't know how I am going to make it through today and tomorrow. The house is a mess. Life is a mess. I haven't been to the gym in over a week. SO has been really great though. Even if he did watch GOT without me.

We're trying to introduce jack and Aurora. Aurora is not a fan. She says she likes being an only child. I'm a little worried about jack's intelligence. He just sits there while she gets all angsty about it. Also, our neighbor said he found one of jack's siblings. The kitten didn't make it =/

  • Happy Birthday @charlotte989875 !!!

@levioosa :O I would be so mad if FI watched GOT without me lmao

Weekend was good! lots of hanging out with family, and our engagement photos last night, which actually turned out to be a lot of fun, and less awkward than I thought. Our photographer is amazing at making it feel easy.

FI is in Montreal all week for work :( Which means I'll be dealing with the last minute craziness before we move without him this week. BUT he agreed that we can get another dog when we're all settled in to the new house. I'm SO excited! He's going to be away even more for work with this new promotion so I convinced him I need another (we already have one dog, who's 10, so I hope she integrates with a puppy well enough) to protect me and keep me company while he's gone.

Anyone have any suggestions for large breed, good family dogs?
  • Charlotte - Happy Birthday!!!!

Heffa - Try to get the kids on a sleeping schedule to help with the jet lag.  Act like they are in school and get them up early every day and down to sleep at normal time with any normal sized and timed naps.  I had some terrible jet lag my first trip to England/Ireland.  Took me over a month to get over it because I was in college and just slept whenever I wanted instead of getting my body back to normal.

I love me Ikea!  It's been a while since I've gone.  I might need to rectify that soon and take DD for her first Ikea outing!

Leviosa - Almost there!  Hang in there!

Kimmi - Yay for new flower bed with someone else doing the hard work!

The weekend was good.  Got down the shore early on Friday.  It was still hot down there with no big ocean breeze.  We went over to Cape May on Saturday to walk around and had a nice time.  We went out for dinner at my old bosses' place and got free dinner!  It was just what our wallet needed!  LOL! We were out later than usual, so DD started to hit her witching hour and we got out of there stat.  Sunday we went out for ice cream for lunch and cooked dinner on the grille.  Packed up the car with my niece and her friend for a very full car!  Olive is getting to stay a few extra days down there since she didn't fit!  But she loves the shore (except the water!) and won't really miss us!  My parents will bring her home when they come up later this week.

  • DSC - Yay for the job offer!!!  I hope its exactly what you want/need!  Sorry to hear about your friend at your party.  I also hate people who RSVP and not show up!  We had about a dozen people cancel last minute for DDs party in early June.

Apolly - Glad your e-pics when well!  I love labs.  They are great family pets!  Olive is a lab mix, but still has all of the laid back characteristics that make labs so chill.  She is also in love with DD!  Once DD is more mobile, they will have lots of fun together!  Olive is also very protective of me!  Lastly, Adopt - Don't Shop!

  • @OliveOilsMom Absolutely with the adoption. Yes, I've never met a lab I haven't liked! As a neat freak, I'm a bit worried about shedding though. Bella (current dog) Is hypoallergenic and non shedding, so I've been spoiled.
  • @charlotte989875, happy birthday! GL to H on the interview.  Keeping my FX crossed.  Your'e very motivational for taking on 2 jobs yourself.
@drillsergeantcat, sorry your friend did all that to you on your bday.  And congrats on the upcoming job offer.  Hope it's everything you want!

Am I the only one who doesn't like ikea? I feel like the quality isn't there for the price.  I like the kitchen gadgets, not a fan of the furniture.

Weekend was fantastic. Drove up to see my family and my 7 month old nephew.  He's a cutie.  He likes to stare at people and things.  That's pretty much all he can do right now.  Stare you down.  At least he doesn't cry anymore when you hold him.  I thought he hated me when he first met me! babies MUST love me.  They must.   the drive was 5 hrs and 45 minutes which is a tad to long for me, and especially driving it right after a long day at work.  However, I bought a "rockstar" on the way there and I got my 2nd wind and I'm pretty sure that drink saved my life.

I told my parents about Vegas, and of course they're coming (they'll never say no to that) and then I told them about the 2nd half of our trip- the cruise and they're actually coming on the cruise with us too!  It's going to be so much fun.  I feel like cruises are best in groups :)

  • I'm choosy about furniture I get from Ikea.  The chair @Heffalump is a great chair for kiddos (my parents have it for the grandkids).  I also have two tables that I bought from Ikea a frillion years ago that are solid wood and held up really well.  I bought a cube thing that holds the fabric drawers for DefConn's toys.  All good stuff.  But I'm not sure if I'd buy more major furniture from them without a lot of research.  And yes, I love their gadgets and other small items.

DH and I used to watch GoT separately because he worked nights.  I almost always watched first.

  • We bought a ton from Ikea in order to fill the house.  We need to upgrade a dresser, desk and our kitchen chairs to adult furniture, but our kitchen table, light fixtures and our kitchen island are amazing.

  • @oliveoilsmom, I'm glad you had a good time in Cape May.  I've heard good things about it!  Speaking of Capes...I know May and Cod are no where near each other, I've always wanted to set out a week in summer to go to Cape Cod/Plymouth.  We go in the fall usually.  It's gorgeous in the fall, but I'd like to see it in the summer in all it's glory.

That being said, I have to much to do and see on my bucket list and to little PTO to do it with!

  • Happy Birthday @charlotte989875.

Congratulations on the new job @DrillSergeantCat! So glad it worked out for you.

The weekend was uneventful other than H and his buddy from college + his wife went to the race yesterday. I stayed home a did stuff.
  • @charlotte989875, Happy Birthday!  Good luck to Mr. Charlotte.

@DrillSergeantCat, congrats on the job offer!!!!  I know how disappointed you've been with all the job searching.  Sounds like it might have been fate/karma/God saving you for the right opportunity, all along.  I'm glad your BD party went well and was fun, despite some of the flaky invitees and your drunken trainwreck friend.

@apollymi, glad your engagement photos went well!

@OliveOilsMom, your weekend at the shore sounds heavenly!  I'm jealous, lol.

@CharmedPam, how fun!  I'm glad your parents are joining you all for the trip next year.  I love cruising but, alas, my H doesn't.

Ikea is one of those stores that everybody else seems to have, but I don't.  The closest one is in Houston...and that is NOT close, lol.  As such, I've only been in an Ikea twice in my life.  Target is fairly new to my area also.  They only arrived in the suburbs here about 15 years ago.

  • A very Happy Birthday to you @charlotte989875

Our weekend was busy, but the last load of stuff from our old house is now sitting in the driveway of the new house (in a u-haul) and I just have to convince myself to unload it.  Then the move is done and I just have to make one last quick trip to the old place and finish a bit of cleaning and we are in the clear!  The landlords there are putting it up for sale, so they are likely going to have it professionally cleaned after I am done, which takes a bit of the pressure off to make it perfect.

The chicks are doing well.  We ended up losing 2 of the 21, but then we got super good at nursing any sickly ones back to health, and I spent hours on chicken websites, and running to different farm stores to get meds and other supplies.  So we had 2 that looked a little unwell and now they are fine.  So stressful though really.  And we have 30 more coming in next week!

H is at a disciplinary meeting at work this morning.  There was a minor accident (a handful of them were involved, one person was injured, but it wasn't serious) and so he was suspended for 2 days, and now we shall see if it turns into a week.  I really hope not, because him missing that much work will muck up the finances for this month.  Fingers crossed they let him go back tomorrow.

Congrats on the move and chickies!  My hubby works at a job that this can happen at too (disciplinary "leave").  It would be very stressful and at hourly pay I know where you're coming from.  Hoping he gets to go back tomorrow.

  • I've been feeling like a "mess" the last few days.  I'm super thirsty all the time and just feeling "run down".  I got 8 hours of sleep Saturday night.  Was up for a few hours.  Then went down for a nap at 11:20AM.  But didn't wake up until 5:00PM!  And still went to sleep at 10:30PM and went to sleep just fine.

It's eerie.  Because both thirst and tiredness are signs of really high blood sugar and I do have Type I Diabetes.  I'm almost having deja vu of when I was first diagnosed over 20 years ago, though not as bad.  But my blood sugars have been fine, overall, so I don't think it's that.

The only thing I can think of is general dehydration, because that can zap a person of energy also.  I've been trying to up my water intake.  I drink a lot of water and iced tea (plain) anyway, about 3/4ths of a gallon/day.  But the heat index has been over 100, so maybe I still need more than that!

  • DSC - Congrats on the job!  Have you already told your current one?  I'd put my notice in ASAP!

Kwik - Hope everything works out for H at work! Glad you are learning how to be a good little chick momma!

S+S - Hope you feel better soon.  If your sugars are normal, try to up your water intake!  Heat and humidity is no joke and can really zap your energy!

  • also, I'm going to let this go because it's really nbd....but I'm irked and want to vent.

I went to a wedding May 20th.  I was going to buy a card, slip in money while there but we really had no time to stop and get a card (I was a brideslave).  I mailed one to her as soon as I got back home but with a check.

It is July 24th and she still hasn't cashed her check yet. She did mention that they haven't gotten around to cashing any and wanted to send out ty cards first.  totes get it.  But HTFU because I'm sure your sitting on many checks and people want them cashed ASAP.

Yesterday I get the ty card and I'm like "cool.  She can cash the check now!".  Well, the ty card did not thank me for the gift but thanked me for being the brideslave (obviously not her words.  Mine).  I checked her return address on the card and it was 2 numbers off.  I emailed her with 'dammit! I had your address wrong.  Did your neighbors give you the card I sent? We got nothing back from the postal service....."

She's like "breathe.  That house is his grandma's address. We sent the mail from his mom's house.  They live next door.  We got it".

    a) cash it
    b) thank me for it

I didn't know you were type 1.  I'm type II and I'm always tired.  I think it could be dehydration. It's been a hot summer for us, well this weekend anyway - so I'm guessing you too?

I was diagnosed when I was 20, so on the "older" side for Type I.

Yeah, it's always crazy hot here in the summer.  But the last week has been extra bad.  I'm pretty sure that's my problem and hoping the extra water helps.  It's tough to fit in because I already feel like I'm always drinking water or iced tea, lol.  However, the thirstiness has tapered off some over the last couple days as I've made the effort.

ok, so speaking of lack of energy.  My brother's friend reached out to me on facebook about the pruvit keotones drink.  He started to sell it (it IS pyramid) and now all his posts are about how it has changed his life.  It's supposed to lift brain fog, give you energy, help with depression, burn fat, lower blood sugar levels, cure all the diseases known to man....etc. etc.

So he sends me some videos and I must say his comments from people on his page ARE positive "thank you so much for showing me this stuff!".  So I go to the webpage, because naturally I'm intrigued, and it's $160 for one time shipment or $144 for the smart (auto) ship.

I go to amazon and find that a company called Julian's bakery makes something with almost the exact same ingredients. Just missing some MCT powder or something.  At 1/3 the price!  Guess what I did?

I took my first scoop today (with water) and so far... I don't feel as amazing as I think I should feel... maybe I need the $160 product
