Wedding Woes

Wednesday

What up?!

Just gotta limp through today and tomorrow.  Can't wait for the long weekend.

My mouth still hurts a bit.  :/  I hate dental work.  I got home and watched a marathon of Below Deck until the kids got home.  The downtime was nice.

We did get some interesting and potentially exciting news yesterday (I am NOT pregnant).  I'll share more deets if it shakes down the way we hope it does.  ;)

I could so go for a nap right now.

Re: Wednesday

  • Dogs woke me up early.  That was annoying.  I thought it was Thursday so I came here looking for Prudie.  Sigh.

Can't wait to hear about your good news @mrsconn23!

  • @mrsconn23  mouth healing vibes. Also excited for your news :)

@Ro041  I thought it was Thursday also ....

So went to clinic last night because my dr was doing the walk-in.
Did their pee test - negative. She said I could be wrong in dates. She gave me a note for next Tuesday to come in, and they'll retake pee test - unless I get my period. At least at that time they can test and have better results.

She did say it sounds like early signs, but hard to tell right now. I asked what could be the situation if I'm not but she wants to wait until next week.

I swear .... I'm hoping I am because if I'm not and I'm dealing with this now, I feel like early pregnancy is going to be 1000x worse :(

We'll see what happens. I'll keep you ladies posted.
  • @MissKittyDanger - sending you all the good vibes!!

  • Not much here. My discussion with the supervisor did not go well yesterday. LSS, she doesn't care where/when I work (as we discussed/agreed many times), but other people in the agency will talk about and she said she doesn't want to deal with the chatter. Too bad, not my problem. Letting it play out for now but I'm not happy.

Also our agent suggested making a price drop on the house. It's gotten good activity but no offers yet. Disappointed but it is what it is.
  • A colleague from another office is visiting ours this week, and yesterday when I was showing him around, he/we inadvertently ruffled some feathers. So I will probably spend the rest of today smoothing things over. I'm a little frustrated, because I've spent the better part of a year trying to build a relationship with the people I work beside, and I feel like this may have jeopardized that. No one did anything wrong, it was just a personality thing. He has his way of interacting with people and I have mine, and they're very different. Granted, if I had been at his office, I wouldn't have approached the situation the way he did, but that's neither here nor there.

  • Morning.

My mom had her surgery on Monday.  It didn't go as planned.  Lots of bleeding, had to get the bag.  Is still in ICU, but hoping she will be released to a normal room today.     I'm trying to decide if I should fly out there or not.   I wouldn't go until she gets out, which we are not sure when that will be.

Selfishly I do not want to go because it's the end of the season.  Once Oct hits I'm out of work until December.  Would like to continue to work if I can.  I'm just going to wait an see what happened.

Personally I'm doing okay.  I hiked some 19.5 miles in two days.  I tweaked my left knee in the process.  Same one I had issues with before.  Although this is a different pain.    Suppose to do a 8-10 mile member hike tomorrow.   I will see how I feel before I commit to that (there is already another guide and I do not know this trail anyway).

Work is work.  You can tell it's the end of the season.  Staff is getting burned out.     We are busier than normal for this time of the year because we have a lot of people from Houston at our club.  So a lot of them either stayed longer or flew up to get away from the storm.    At least 2 of the member's family members are underwater and 1 member's house.    That member is very rich (hello, their 2nd home is in one of the most expensive zip codes in the states).  He said it's bad, but he is obviously in much better shape than most.

Yesterday was draft day.   My team is okay.  Maybe a "B" rating.  I have some good RB's, including LeSean McCoy.    Made the mistake of going emotional  by picking the Eagles (at least they are a top 10 defense).    QB's are Ben (which I had last year and he did well for me) and Watson.   Watson is my sleeper.  People thought it was odd I choose him, but I just have this feeling.  Plus I'm a Clemson fan, so maybe it was an emotional pick?  Only time with tell.

Has anyone heard from @holyguacamole79?  I know she lives down there (close to wear I use to live).    Hope everyone is safe.  You too @short+sassy  it's heading/already coming to you.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
  • @charlotte989875  what other people say shouldn't make the person change what they said. Too bad for her for dealing with the chatter, you made a deal. If they talk then simple way of resolving that "this was something Charlotte989875 and I discussed. It does not involve others"
  • @charlotte989875 Well, that's why she gets paid the big bucks.

    My thoughts exactly.
  • @VarunaTT - we must live near each other.  I am watching the same news stories you are. Let's hope for the best on both fronts.

  • My discussion with the supervisor did not go well yesterday. LSS, she doesn't care where/when I work (as we discussed/agreed many times), but other people in the agency will talk about and she said she doesn't want to deal with the chatter. OMG, I hate when people whine about having to do their actual job.  You're in management and your job is to manage people and reinforce your expectation of each individual person.  Do that thing since you're getting paid for it.
  • @charlotte989875 I hate supervisors who refuse to supervise.  You negotiated a deal that worked for you; it's not your problem if other people don't like it.

@WinstonsGirl I need those work papers.  I just left a customer who called me in on an emergency to tell him why what he bought from me is working better than the similar product he bought from a competitor.  Umm, because I must have sold you nicer shit.

@mrsconn23 can't wait for the announcement.

@MissKittyDanger sorry about the negative test.  On the positive, it sounds like your body is reacting hormonally so maybe it's what someone else said where your body is preparing to be PG.

@atomicblonde why do you have repair what it sounds like this guy broke?

SSDD today.  According to my FB memories I was deep in my attempts to become a runner at this time last year.  I'm not sad that it didn't work.  I am fatter, but whatever, I'm married now (just kidding, just kidding).

I had my fantasy draft 2 last night, I feel dirty because I drafted Jameis Winston and Ben Roethlisberger as my QB's.  I was working an event and drafting so I wanted options.  I also mistakenly drafted two defenses.  Waivers can fix that after week 1.
    image
  • @kimmiinthemitten  that's possible. @sparklepants41  mentioned that the other day. My dr said there could be a random surge of hormone in my body that causes this, but I guess we won't know until probably next week.
  • @lyndausvi sorry about the complications with your mom.  How long will recovery take?  I imagine she will probably need someone out there in a couple months to help still.

@VarunaTT If I ever win a vacation I'm gifting it to you!  You're a damn energizer bunny if I've ever seen one.
    image
  • yeah, want to hear the interesting news @mrsconn23!
@Misskittydanger, the waiting game sucks, doesn't it?
@charlotte989875, sorry about your problematic supervisor.
@lyndausvi, healing vibes for your momma.  Sorry it didn't go as planned :( I can see what you mean about wanting to work as much as you can
@winstonsGirl, that made me LOL.  I love it!

Tonight H is working, so it's tapas for dinner with some friends of mine.  Then, hopefully an episode of ozark and bed early, for some reason I was up a few times during the night.  I cannot wait for Friday.  We usually get out early on a Friday before a Holiday plus annoying coworker is off. It'll be a NICE day!

  • @CharmedPam  I've already warned M and my mother I may need to be committed before Tuesday. Doesn't help my 30th bday is next Thursday. The world is trying to make me crazy .... lol

    Yumm tapas :)

Hopefully your weekend is fun filled and occupies your time and mind!

  • @mrsconn23 can't wait to hear your news!!
@lyndausvi sending good vibes to you and your mom!!
@MissKittyDanger keeping my fingers crossed for you!!
@charlotte989875 that sucks about your boss - it's definitely not your problem that others are going to talk. But it is your manager's responsibility to deal with that chatter and put an end to it.
  • Back in the office today.  I was working up in beautiful industrial Newark NJ again yesterday!

Lynda - Quick healing for your mom and your knee!

MrsConn - Can't wait to hear your good news!

Charlotte & Atomic - Sorry for the frustrations at work.

Sparklepants - DD very much has a witching hour as well.  It didn't start right away though.  But it can be crazy now!  But she also sleeps through the night, so we put up with it!

Yesterday, I was working out of the office as I mentioned.  I was able to hit up one of my favorite stores to buy more work socks on our way back down to South Jersey.  I have had to throw a lot out recently due to holes.  So I stocked back up!  Got a few other things too.  Then home by 4:30.  Got to snuggle with DD, who isn't too cranky from her shots yet.  I let DD try mashed avocado.  I think its safe to say she isn't a fan!  She wouldn't even open her mouth back up by her 3 bite!  Will try it again another time.

Today, I think I will head to Wegmans at lunch to pick up some fruit & veg to make DD her foods.  Then its yoga after work.  Not sure what's going on tonight, hopefully not much!

  • @lyndausvi sending you and your mom healing vibes!
@charlotte989875 she sounds kind of shitty as a manager. Sorry you're asking her to do her job.

SSDD for me. I didn't sleep great last night. It was 112 yesterday and is supposed to be that hot again today. It's like we're being punished for decorating with fall stuff last week.

I just have to get through work tomorrow and then I'm free to enjoy the weekend. I'm looking forward to it. I've already looked at the menu for our dinner like three times to see what I might order.

  • Hey @lyndausvi (and others)!  Thankfully, we were spared.  The areas around us, though, are catastrophic.  The church where I grew up (St. Ignatius ... I think you know that one, Lynda) is destroyed by floods.  Meyer Park is now a lake & Cypresswood / Champion Forest / Steubner Airline is submerged.  It's insane.  The sun came out yesterday and now the work begins.
  • BTW, (not saying that any of you should help ...)
The consistent message down here is that money is the best way to help.  PM me if you want a list of good organizations.
  • Texas Knotties - I know its the last thing on everyone's mind.  But please let the word out to your friends/family and neighbors that they need to file their homeowners insurance claims before Sept 1st.  There are new Texas regulations going into effect on Sept 1st that could change, for the worse, for homeowners filing claims.

This does not effect any flood insurance since that it sold/provided by the government.  This only effects private homeowners insurance.  The article below also states one lawmaker is going to try and get the start date for the new regulations delayed due to Harvey.

  • @holyguacamole79 I'd love to help!  Let me know who the best orgs are to contribute to!

  • Random question about professionalism. When you ask someone to follow up on something, whether it's just a simple, "This was done" email or something more involved, it's generally courteous to respond with a "Thanks for the email," or whatever, right?

Usually when this happens in my line of work, a number of the individual's supervisors are cc'd, and I typically like to send that annoying "Thanks for words" email. But do I reply all, or just reply to the individual?

I ask because it feels like the nuisance "OK" texts my mother sends whenever I send her a text message, whether it warrants any kind of response or not.

  • Also, because I keep forgetting (because I'm an ass), I'm really glad to hear all the Texas knotties are ok.  I thought about y'all a lot this past week.

I tend not to mainly because I hate getting "OK" as an email to something, but I'm a little ornery. Except in situations where someone is waiting for me to do something before they can act.

Like if I'm asked to do something but X date, I'm going to do it. I don't need to say, "okay thanks I'm going to do it".  But I will send an email saying I've finished Y request if someone is waiting on it, or they need me to confirm before doing their part.

That's kind of where I fall most of the time no response is required, but I also feel like if I asked for the information/follow up/whatever, I feel like I should at least acknowledge that I got the stuff I asked for. But it annoys me to no end when my mother sends those stupid texts, and the last thing I want is to turn into her. These days, I'm 50/50 on responding and I usually don't reply all, but I wonder about it every.single.time.

    Thanks for the insight.
