We MADE it to DH's last day.  w00t!  He should be home a little after lunch time.

One last gasp of fuckery...The AWOL manager never answered her phone and as of yesterday, they were getting a 'this line has been disconnected' message.  Either she turned off her phone or blocked their numbers.   She's no longer employed by them.   Also, another supervisor turned in his notice.  They are down to no ops manager and 4 supervisors for 3 shifts.  My neck hurts from all the head-shaking.  ;)

DefConn got his glasses yesterday.  He's adjusting well to them.  He wants to wear them.  I caught myself looking over at him yesterday and just grinning at his cuteness.

Other than that, SSDD.   More hurricane madness for us (since I'm in the travel industry).  Just waiting on the weekend.  :D

  • @mrsconn23 HAPPY LAST DAYYYY!!!!! You both deserve a fucking medal after all this!
    Yay for DefConn glasses! :)

    Not much last night. SSDD pretty much. Got laundry done and likely tonight will be a few more things {sheets likely}

M finally discovered his credit issues and now that he has, we can successfully move forward to pay it off :)

Whole lotta not much today in general. I'm tired so I'll probably be crashing early tonight .... I could totally go for a nap now tbh

What a weird way to take off!   I guess the only saving grace for the AWOL manager is that if the company is so effed up there won't be an HR department left to call to verify employment and say that she left without giving notice?

SSDD here.   Chiquito was home from about 9 AM Tuesday and all day yesterday.   He spiked a fever and all the cowbell I had wouldn't cure it so I had to move to ibuprofen.   By yesterday though he was running around the house , watching TV and wanting to eat his favorite foods.   I'm hoping he's back to normal and he doesn't get the puke bug that's going around.   Puke sucks no matter when you get it but there's something particularly awful about a child with no aim throwing up.   It's a particularly awful punishment to parents.

It's supposed to be a GORGEOUS weekend and DH is gone all day Saturday for a trivia competition.   If my kids are OK I may take them to my parents or to a farm for some fun activities.   I'm hoping Sunday we can do more boat time.

LOL, she wishes. But the HR manager is militant AF and in it for the long haul (because she doesn't have to deal with operations, at all), so she'll make sure AWOL manager gets her due if she deigns to reference her brief employment there.  ;)
  • I'm going to start a new post for those of you who have worked overnights/SO worked overnights.  We're struggling with how to handle sleeping on the days off.

There's a lot of movement in some of my community work all of a sudden.  I might be resigning as a chair head and moving into a president position.  I have many questions and concerns, so I'm pulling on my network for some advice.  We'll see.

Getting ready to go out of town for a gig.  Hopefully, it's fun.  Other than that, SSDD.
  • DD (further referred to as Dork), is back at dayhome today.  She's still not 100%, but the fever is down, and she's been on antibiotics for 48 hours.

I started working out again this week, and started big with 30 minutes of stair sprints.  It's been two days now and walking is still a horrible chore.  My workouts have all been in the evenings this week, which really doesn't work for my family or I, so next week I have to bite the bullet and start getting up at 5 am for a run or some weights. Bah.  I've done it before, but I'm still dreading it.

We had a logistics coordinator do something very similar to this.  This grown ass man had his mom call in sick for him after his first week on the job, apparently he was hospitalized with pneumonia (which may or may not have been true), but he never came back and didn't respond to a single call or message.  I'm no longer with that company, but in the 8 months I worked there I went from being one of the most junior people in an office of 20 to only having 4 people there senior to me.  I got out quickly, and never looked back.

@mrsconn23 I first thought, hope she hasn't been murdered. I listen to too much true crime, lol. Congratulations on your H's last day!

You and me both!! I was telling DH that I was going feel bad about shitting on her if something terrible befell her.  But he found her FB page and she was posting new selfies yesterday.  She'd also removed her married name and only had her maiden name listed.  So it's still a curious case, but at least she's alive and (seemingly) well.
  • Random fact: I've been on M about his debt and making adjustments. I've been explaining that it's not the big purchases, it's always the smaller ones.

THE LIGHT BULB FINALLY CLICKED YESTERDAY!!

M: So I was doing some analysis about spending
    Me: .... go on
M: well ... it's not the big purchases. That only sets me back maybe a month. It's the tiny amounts spent that basically cancels out the payments
    Me: shocking. truly amazing information. :| {mind: OMFG ARE YOU KIDDING ME!? YOU JUST REALIZE THIS NOW}
    M: Yeh I get it. It's what you've been saying ...
Me: and now you get why I get frustrated with your spending ....
M: Yeh ....yeh I get it. Better late than never?
Me: are you kidding me ...
  • I'm back from girls' weekend and caught up. I'm ready to be home for a few weeks. We have two family weddings in October. We have traveled a lot this year and are ready to do house stuff.

Yay for last day @mrsconn23! My DH is considering retiring at the end of the year - not sure how I'm feeling about that!
  • Today will be a busy day for me.  I have all of the dishes washed, so that should give me room to get to canning tonight.  I have to make sure H doesn't make a crazy dinner for us and put dirty dishes everywhere.  I love him and he cooks for me, but damn he is a messy cook!  I clean as I go, so things aren't all over the place, but not H.  He also stacks dishes so horribly in the sink, the sink always looks full, when there are like 5 things in there!  But, again, he cooks for me, so I just put up with it and clean up later.

So tonight is canning all of my sauce.  Will see how much I get out of my giant pot.  Hoping for at least 20 quarts!  I already added the tomato paste this morning, so that is done too.

Tomorrow H is off, but will be working to get us ready to leave for the shore as soon as I get home from work.  It is supposed to be gorgeous this weekend!  I can't wait!

A question for the moms - So DD has been to daycare for 3 days and already has a cough (awesome!).  She woke up a few times coughing last night, but always fell back to sleep on her own.  Should I have a humidifier for her to help with the coughs?

MrConn probably left for work with a big smile today!  I hope he moonwalks on out of there today!

I will post more later but had to give a quick throw in of: one of the reasons I love working with engineers.

The city has been on a "Boil Water" advisory since yesterday morning.  And there is no end in sight.  Whatever.  They suck so hard.

Anyway.  Back to the biggest way this affects me.  Skeered to drink the coffee at work.

There were two post it notes on the coffee makers.  One of them was "Boil Water Advisory" and the other was "Drink only at your own risk".

Someone added to the second one, "I think this coffee will kill any bacteria."

Even better though, one of the engineers pulled up online the instructions for these industrial coffee makers.  Highlighted in yellow the part that says the coffee is brewed at 210 degrees.  Then added a note that all bacteria, except two rare ones, are killed at 140 degrees.

At drastic times like these, it's awesome to have people who tend to be detail-oriented on your side!

  • The fall I took yesterday hurts like a mofo.  It's one huge road rash just below the buttcheek.  It hurts to sit.

Nothing else.  I'd like to say I'm looking forward to the weekend, but we have 5 soccer games and 2 practices.  I'm looking forward to Tuesday morning when nobody is in my house for 2 whole hours.

Owch! Anything you can put on it?
  • 6 - healing vibes for your road rash!
  • I put Neosporin on it, but it's such a large area I need to use gauze which requires tape, which I'm allergic too.  The stuff I'm not allergic to doesn't hold.  I used an ace bandage to wrap around but that causes problems when I have to pee:(

I'm two weeks away from the wedding. All of the small details feels so stressing sometimes. We are just ready for the wedding day to come and be done. I'm in search of someone to clean and steam my gown. One of my bridesmaid has the gown at her house. She is doing the favor for me to drop it off (after I asked her) but want me to find a cleaner service for her to take it to. She said that she doesn't want to feel responsible or some 'ish because she doesn't know any cleaner services in her area and in case "something bad happens" to it. I don't quite understand that. My favor was asking her if she can take it to a cleaner service because I live a little over an hour from her house (I don't go out that way where she lives anymore) and to save me some time/stress. I feel like I'll do better to just get the gown from her and drop it off to the cleaners my self. Keeping it hidden in my office closet from the fiance.
  • @mrsconn23 that's hilarious about the manager. I feel like she did the thing most people fantasize about but never actually do, because, you know, bridges and all that.

Aurora is so much better. Unfortunately Jack has no boundaries so we've had to keep them separate since he plays so rough. I ended up sleeping in the other bedroom with her last night because SO was all over the place and talking a storm up in his sleep.

I went to a skills day for work today, and now I'm trying to find someone to go on a hike with. It's cloudy and beautiful and relatively cool outside. Going to the gym just seems like a sad waste of this day. Tomorrow and Saturday I have work, unless I get called off. I mean...I need the money....but I'm not going to shed any tears if I get called on this weekend.

  • @mrsconn23 Yay for DH's last day! I've read a little on all the bs and I'm glad you all won't have to deal with it any longer!
@MissKittyDanger ugh I feel you on the finances, I've been telling my FI the same. I think he's finally starting to get it too lol I had to give him visuals for him to get it.
@charlotte989875 I hope the pup has a fantastic time!
@banana468 boo sickies, hope the little one feels better soon!
@OliveOilsMom I've wanted to start canning but I don't even know where to begin lol so I commend you! Hopefully you get a lot of sauce.
@6fsn ouch! All the healing vibes to you!!!

Thank the sweet lord baby jesus is it THURSDAY! I'm off tomorrow but work saturday and sunday. I'll take the friday off so I get get things done. And Sat/Sun I'm only working till 4 so I will live.  I feel like this week has had so much fuckery going on with work I'm just happy I have a few hours left till I'm free for 24 hours lol. My FI and I went and saw It on sunday (mind you, I have an irrational fear of clowns). I'm not sure how I got roped into watching it but it must have had something to do with free food being involved lol. Anyways, it wasn't bad in terms of me being insanely freaked out by the clown. I think it was well done. I LOVED how the boy from stranger things was in there and had a more comical role in it.

Tomorrow will consist of me catching up on laundry, taking the puppy for a nice long walk (if its not raining) and binge watching the Confession Tapes . I hope everyone has a fantastic day and friday if I don't pop in. Time to catch up on Prudie!
  • @Lala9414 It's frustrating when a good part of my job is budgeting and he still doesn't listen lmao! At least these guys are coming around ;)
You're braver than me. I don't do horror movies in general. Did you ever see original "it" ?

I get it. I never get things dry cleaned (or at least not regularly) and so I have no idea which are the careful and which are the careless dry cleaners in the area, and a bad dry cleaner can fuck up a dress. I would trust much more the knowledge of someone who does get things dry cleaned regularly, which apparently is neither of you... so whose research and Yelp skills do you trust more?

or just bring it home and say "fiance.  don't look at the dress".  That's where I kept mine after I picked it up. In our spare room, which he never goes into and I just trusted him not to look.

Knottie#'s, I 100% agree with your friend.  I would never want the responsibility of choosing the dry cleaner I took someone else's wedding dress to.  Like @flantastic mentioned, bad things can happen at a dry cleaner and I'd feel horrible if I'd been the one to randomly pick that cleaner out.  She's still saving you time.  It shouldn't take that long to google dry cleaners in her area and then check out their Yelp reviews.

I mean this more as "gently funny", not snarky, so I hope you read it in this light.  But your post reminded me a little of a Home Advisor commercial.  Homeowner #1 asks his neighbor if he knows of a good roofer.  The neighbor responds back positively with something like, "Oh yeah, I do have a guy."  H#1 replies, "Great!  Give him a call and get me an estimate.  And, oh, call two more roofing companies and get me estimates from them also.  I'd like to have all the information by 5:00 today.  Thanks."

Ditto. I would say no too, if I was her. I would feel absolutely horrible if I recommended a service and they ruined your dress.  Even if it wasn't my fault, I would feel partly responsible. And honestly, there are people who would also say I was responsible for picking the place, even if it wasn't my fault. Nope. I already have enough stress in my life.

  • @CharmedPam, I've never been to Savannah, but have heard it is a beautiful city!  Happy baking with the new stove!

@MissKittyDanger, purchases cancelling out payments on my 'ccs is often the bane of my existence.  Or, even worse, charges to my HELOC canceling out my enormous payments.  With that said, neither myself nor H are impulse shoppers.  Our purchases of services and goods are largely planned, we just have a lot of them!

@OliveOilsMom, my sister had a humidifier in her bedroom growing up.  It helped her coughs a lot.  But I don't think my mom started that until she was a toddler.  2, 3, maybe 4???  I was pretty young myself so that timeframe is a blob for me, lol.

@6fsn, I swear, butt or foot injuries are the worst!  Sitting and walking are the constants for most days, so it extra sucks when it hurts to do one of them.  Hope you heal up soon.

@levioosa, yay Aurora!  I'm glad she's doing and feeling so much better.

My workplace had a blood drive and I donated earlier today.  I guess my iron runs low so, every once in awhile, I can't donate.  But today the lab person told me I BARELY made it.  The iron level needs to be at least "38" and I was at "38".  I think that was what she said.

My H has been feeling HORRIBLE the last two days.  He didn't 'fess up the first day.  But last night he told me he has an abcessed (sp?) tooth, that's why he hasn't been feeling well, and probably needs to see the dentist.

Probably?  Really?  That man!  He knows he has to go sometime.  He knows he is going to be in agony until he does.  But he still procrastinates it because he doesn't want to go.

He also refuses to go to his free annual check-up he gets with our health insurance.  I try to be logical with him.  "You know those jerks don't pay for ANYTHING ELSE until we hit our $6800 deductible.  Which we (thankfully) never do.  So we should at least get the few benefits we can."  Nope, to no avail.

Tell him he made need a root canal or may lose the tooth (hopefully not!), or worse. My parents' neighbor had an abscessed tooth and the infection got so bad it travelled to his brian and affected his memory and motor function. They thought he had a stroke it was so bad. So don't neglect the teeth!

Endocarditis can occur due to abscessed teeth too.

  • @short+sassy  large purchases are always discussed, but the small purchases that aren't discussed - typically things that wind up being like $50 after buying them - are the problem. M is an impulse shopper and he's getting better though
