Re: Tuesday - Happy Halloween!

  • @6fsn that actually sounds like a great idea! That way everyone gets to enjoy and not worry about kids not getting candy if they're out :)

Happy Halloween all! I hope all the kiddos can go trick or treating and all is good! I love Halloween just because I get to see all the kids in awesome costumes. My office is decorated but no one dresses up, so I guess it's semi-festive. Not much going on today, I have work and school tonight. Although, I do suspect that class will have a low attendance rate tonight. Most of my classmates have young children, so I'm assuming they will be trick or treating with them tonight.

Yesterday was a better day for the pup. She is walking around more and walked up all our stairs without stopping which is such a big improvement. I also noticed her energy levels are getting back to normal and she wants to play but every time she hits her cone on something it scares the crap out of her and she cries and jumps. It's slightly funny because she looks like a little bobble head, but I mostly comfort her because her little heart is racing lol.

Your pup will get better and more comfortable with each passing day!

I remember when we got Izzy spade a few years ago.  She wasn't a puppy anymore, she was about 18 months old (we had just adopted her).  Which unfortunately makes it worse, when they're older and out of puppyhood.  She was still bleeding too much after the procedure, so they kept her overnight.  Heartbreak for us because we knew she would be so sad and scared.

The first two days we had her home were the roughest.  She was still in pain, uncomfortable, and moved as little as possible.  By the third day, it was a lot better.  She still looked uncomfortable and wasn't nearly as active as before, but she was moving more and moving a little faster.  Each day was bit better than before and, after about a week, she was totally back to her old self.

I don't remember why, but they told us she didn't need a cone.  So at least there was that, lol.

Our cat was spayed as a 4-month-old kitten.  I don't know if it's different for cats or because she was younger, but it was a LOT better for her.  The first day, she looked uncomfortable, but not in pain.  The second day, she was good as new.  Like nothing had happened, lol.

    They allowed it at 4 months? Interesting. Maybe it's the vet, but ours didn't allow it until just after Penny turned a year {they could have done sooner but she needed shots and time between them}
  • I tried two new breakfast recipes today and I'm a fan.  One is a spinach banana muffin and the other some pressure cooker egg thing that's supposed to be like Starbucks eggs.  I've never had the Starbucks eggs, but these were damn tasty.

I know many women choose to forgo drugs during pregnancy, but if she's really miserable and open to the idea, Diclegis worked wonders for my 24-7, 9 month long nausea. My doctor suggested it and prescribed it. It's just vitamin B6 and the sleep aid Unicom, apparently.
I tried the natural remedies and they did diddly squat. Without that drug I don't know how I would have survived 9 months!
She hasn't mentioned using drugs yet. She is a PA so I am assuming she might be familiar with that. I will certainly suggest it if she feels like it isn't getting any better or she just can't function. She has her first OB appointment in another week (she still is seeing the fertility specialist for the next week). I'm sure she will discuss it with the doctor then. Thanks for the suggestion!

Actually, they insisted on it!  We got her from the SPCA.  They don't spay/neuter animals until they are adopted, but that service is included in the adoption fee.  Now I can't remember for sure.  But they either wouldn't let us take her home until she was fixed.  Or we could take her home...briefly...but had to make an appointment for the next day to bring her back in for spaying.

To quote Al Gore on South Park.  They were "super cereal" about it.

Humane Society is same here. Penny was feral, but the vet still wanted to hold off.
We brought her in because she was going into heat - no scent yet, because she was too young.  Angel - being the obvious rough and tough male lololol - is fixed but he's the reason she went into heat early.

It was about a week before her surgery that the scent kicked in .... yelling at your cats to "quit fucking!" is a sentence one does not anticipate ever saying :| especially at 6am

Yes each day has gotten better, Marley is officially 11 months as of yesterday lol so still barely considered a pup. She got spayed on Saturday and I just think where the incision site is, it's making her super uncomfortable. On Sunday she kept whimpering and I couldn't figure out why because she was laying on her bed next to me, I finally decided to put her on her back and she immediately stopped and fell asleep. I think her laying down was putting too much pressure on the incision and was hurting her. I can't wait for next Tuesday because I can finally take her lampshade off lol and I also can't wait to give her a bath :D

    Dear god no.

On a related note: I work with some pretty ignorant people. The other day at work for an hour the topic of conversation rotated around: how Trump is "misunderstood," how the women who came forward about Weinstein should "stop complaining because they got something out of it," and how the Vegas shooting was "a conspiracy from the left for gun control." I almost had a hypertensive crisis.

My dad is in Vegas for a car show. He called me this morning complaining of abdominal pain, and I told him to go to the ER. Now he has surgery scheduled for a giant kidney stone and the nurse is trying to get him to sign consent for the surgery (not sure which kind, yet) when he's been given Dilaudid. She was all, "he seems with it." Um, no. I talked to him and his is definitely not "with it." You can't get informed consent once you've given pain meds like that. Nursing 101. JFC.

Tonight we are having a bunch of people over for Halloween. I've been cleaning the house all day. I might not even end up staying if I have to drive to Vegas with my mom. I told her if we need to go we should look for a last minute flight. I'd rather rent a car and do a 45 min flight then spend 3 hours driving to Vegas with all the crazies tonight. I said I wanted to go to Vegas soon, but I didn't mean like this. *eye roll* I'm sure he'll be fine, it's just a pain in the ass to advocate for someone from so far away.

  • DD made it to the office.  I will DD this in a bit.

    Oh my goodness too cute!
  • @levioosa, assuming you also work in Orange County, I remember the politics well.  Some of those people make Mike Pence look like an ultra liberal, lol.

I hope your dad is okay!  It's never a good time to have an unexpected surgery, but it's so much worse to be on vacation and away from home.  Ugh, be really safe if you all go to Vegas tonight.  I bet it's an insane party town for Halloween with a lot of drunks on the road.  As in, more than it even usually is!
