FRIDAY!

Re: FRIDAY!

  • @ILoveBeachMusic I get the concern about the 12 week mark, but my dr said if all is good in the ultrasounds she said it's good in her books {ex: 7 weeks ultrasound, heartbeat was 150bpm and that helps lower risk}
But it's a personal thing. We announced on Wednesday, and I'm 13 weeks today - but we chose to wait until the 12 week ultrasound :)
I get the announcing thing - but you had told a lot of your friends and family before then. I just meant telling some friends and family (other than immediate family) but like I said, not my call.

Not all family. Parents knew right away but grandparents {soon to be great grandparents} we didn't tell until 7 week ultrasound.
Some friends knew - my bff knew 15mins after M :')! - but a lot of our friends didn't, mostly because we hadn't seen them and wanted to say in person. We probably would have waited anyways.

Extended family {aunts and uncles} found out a week or so before announcing on fb. Only aunt who found out early was on my dad's side, because my nana warned she couldn't keep her mouth shut ;) But otherwise many didn't know until relatively recently. Tbh that was M's call, he was really nervous about 'jumping the gun'

Well, I just got released from jury duty, at least.
I've always wanted to serve on a jury! We actually just covered jury selection and peremptory challenges in my civil liberties class today.

I just got released too!  I've already served in my old county and this one was kind of annoying.  Once a month for 4 months you had a to call in.  You could serve on a 1-2 day trial each of those months.  I said it would be a financial hardship.  Max is still at home so I'd have to pay for childcare each month.  Plus the hours were before and after school time so I would have to provide before and after care for the other two.  They released me.

I've been picked before, but usually the case was settled before the jury got to deliberate (once on the day we were supposed to hear closing arguments). The only time I was on a jury where it got to deliberate was a traffic ticket case where the driver contested a speeding charge. Too bad for him, really, because he was ultimately fined more than the ticket he was given by the cop.
  • I actually did get a job offer today, but not the one I was waiting for.

The offer today is less than I was previously making and has no benefits. So I have to keep looking. I did try to follow up with the other company, but at this point, who knows whether they will ever make me an offer.

If you're looking in oil/gas/chemicals, I would almost guarantee that if they get back to you with an offer in December, your start date wouldn't be until January. They're doing what they can to cut costs and save a few bucks now to improve their 4th quarter results. End of the year furloughs for contract staff and delayed hiring for direct employees are both really common in the petro/chemical world.

I'm not, because I don't qualify for those jobs.

My parents ironically thought a few years ago when I moved from New York to Houston (grew up here) that it would be easier for me to find a job here than there. But because I don't have that kind of experience, I haven't found that to be true at all.
  • air fryer review I was coincidantally reading today:
    https://thewirecutter.com/reviews/best-air-fryer/

  • I got the final response from the company. There will be no offer. "They've decided to hire at a lower level position and don't think they can be competitive with the other offer I got."

We still haven't announced on social media. LOL! Last time, I didn't get around to it until 2 months before babybelle was born. All the important people knew so it wasn't really a priority. This time I will probably just wait until the kid is born and be like "oh here is another baby." #secondchild

I've had a number of friends do this; like "oh hey we had a baby" or a baby just shows up in pictures. A few had tough pregnancies, another had a history of miscarriages so they didn't want to put things out there if it didn't work out.
  • That sucks @Jen4948 are you going to take the other offer??

  • @Jen4948, I am so sorry to hear things still aren't working out for you on the job front!  And what a bunch of jerks for getting your hopes up.  Really?  They don't even know what experience/skill level they want to hire for, smh.  Talk about a waste of everyone's time.  Even if you are not applying with oil/gas companies, I agree with @*Barbie*.  Overall, December is a slow time for job postings in many industries.

Although seasonal, have you thought about getting hired on somewhere for tax preparations?  Or open up your own side gig for it.  I mean, you'd still want to be looking for something permanent, but that could potentially be good temporary money for the few months of the year.  My friend's mother is semi-retired, but makes around $15K each season doing tax returns.  To be fair, she has built up a list of clients over the years.  But she's not a licensed CPA, so she doesn't have that advantage in either advertising or to warrant charging higher fees.

  • The other offer is a tax job. I accepted it because at the moment I have no other prospects. I'm still looking.
