Wedding Woes

It's already my noon

I had to be up at 4:15 for a breakfast delivery, so I'm considering it lunch time now!

Hope everyone had a great weekend/MondayI got some bad news on the work front and am trying to stay positive in hopes that I didn't walk away from a 10 year career/company and make a mistake.

But on the plus side, Hubs announces today!  We launched his FB yesterday and he's gotten 150 likes.  It's nice to be "out" and doing stuff finally.

Re: It's already my noon

  • @kimmiinthemitten Yay Matt Mitten!!! Good news from your bad day at least :)

Had to post on fb that we won't know about gender for another couple of weeks - due to breeched baby AND legs crossed - so people aren't expecting us to tell them. I already told family that was suppose to come this weekend.

    Apparently my mum and her brothers were born breech, so I have a new question for my OB next time I see her. {just in case baby doesn't flip}

Even though it's mild in comparison to what it was before, we had like 20cm of snow {approx 8 inches} so that makes people drive really slow. Waited 45 mins for my friggen bus ... and since I had such a headache yesterday, I asked M to meet me at the mall so I could go home and have a bath.

    Side note: any other preggo women have suggestions on muscle tension headaches? I've been stretching, took a warm bath with salts to ease some tension and used BioFreeze {yes I've been cleared for it, as long as it's not used all the time}
I also have a pillow that's curved and helps my neck, but idk what else to do :(

Since last night neither of us were really "hungry" we both snacked. My aunt made salsa for xmas gifts, so we had some of that. I took out pasta sauce so we actually make dinner lol!
  • Good morning! The cats woke me up early so I’m trying to go back to sleep but I’m worried I won’t be able to. I worked until 2 am last night, and I’m beat. I’m not going out to LA after all because my friend’s kid is still sick with an unknown illness. I kind of wish I’d gone to the pharmacy last night to pick up my prescription because now I have to leave the house for that and all I want to do is be a hermit.

@kimmiinthemitten I hope everything works out!

  • #MrMittenforMichigan is his campaign slogan right @kimmiinthemitten? Good vibes on the work front. I know the feeling super, super well.

I pretty much hate everything today (side note also day 1 of my period), but nitpicking at work is obnoxious, I have an uncomfortable meeting with the CEO at some point today, and everyone is just sad still.

Also, H is super sick. He never gets sick, but he is stay-home-go-back-to-bed sick. The dog didn't know what to do with himself.
  • #MrMittenforMichigan is his campaign slogan right @kimmiinthemitten?
He has to have it now that we've created the hashtag ;)
  • Knowing where baby is sitting now makes more sense why I feel things in certain areas.
I got a latte this morning since I still had a headache and figured caffeine might help {it is a bit} and I felt a little kick in my abdomen :) Super small, but knowing that it's feet are down there makes more sense ;)

Few people on my fb think it's a girl. The ones that commented, had girls and they were legs crossed.
M said "this is the only time I will ever ask my child to open their legs and I feel uncomfortable :| " lolololol
  • @kimmiinthemitten, yay official announcement!  Though I'm so sorry to hear there are issues with the new job.  I hope whatever is wrong gets resolved and it stays/becomes a great opportunity for you.

@charlotte989875, good vibes the job improves for you also.  GL with the CEO meeting.  Healthy vibes to your H.

@CharmedPam, that trip sounds amazing!!!  Now I want to go on a train ride through New England, lol.  Hmmm...perhaps in the Fall when the leaves are changing.  I will live vicariously through you, in the meantime.

Overall, it's been a good day.  Nothing particular happened, just feeling happy and positive.  Hopefully, I didn't just jinx myself, lol.  I've been hankering to go out to eat.  I might put a bug in my H's ear and "prep" him, lol.  Because if I wait until I get home to suggest it, he'll already be settled in and poo-poo it.

It never fails.  Now that the temps went back up, I've been chewed alive for the last two days by mosquitoes!  Apparently they're hungry from their chilly hibernation or just being born or whatever it is they do when it gets cold, lol.

I say allegedly because I no longer believe anything anyone says about the home-selling process.

Good luck!  Crossing fingers for you all!

I feel the same way on the buying side.  In my mind, I actually picture the mysterious and erratic "underwriting department" as this cartoon monster that randomly eats real estate deals, lol.  I don't count on anything until the closing documents are all signed and in my hands.

So most railways around those parts specialize in the foliage rides (and secondly the santa rides)! But we have southwest credit (and like, a lot of it) that had to be used before June 7th....lol

Come to Chicago, they said.  they don't have mosquitoes in January they said....

    Exactly.

Good news is it's out of underwriting and we have a clear to close.

Bad news, they can't tell us exactly what the final total is so we have no idea if we're going to clear the mortgage+fees or if we're going to owe. (It was always going to be close.)
  • There are probably plenty of great trains in the NH area.

This one is near us in CT and it's how I took the kids to the North Pole: http://essexsteamtrain.com/

  • @banana468, yes that's exactly the train we're looking for! Nothing like that here, in the MW (I think?) You can even get married on them.  Now I want a wedding do-over.  You guys say we only get one wedding right?  Like, for real?

@charlotte989875, good luck with everything! You're closing on the 12th, and we're "supposedly" closing on the 19th! Good vibes all around!

  • Well @CharmedPam, New England is tiny.   Make the drive to Essex, CT!   I swear it's a really cute town.  They also have one of the oldest continuously operating inns in the country:

    http://griswoldinn.com/

I would have been there this year over the holiday season but the Gris is a place I go without kiddos.  If you want New England  charm that place is pretty much it.   It gives a great coastal vibe although it's on the CT river and not the sound.  (sound is about a 10 minute drive further south).

ummm actually, we have to fly back to NY for H's parent's 50th in April. I told him we should tack on a historical place in CT while we're there.  I was thinking Captain Grants in Preston but wasn't married to the idea.  This may happen!!

@charlotte989875 that sucks - we did a re-fi last year and they told us we wouldn't owe anything at closing. Unfortunately, there was some mix-up because of our local tax schedule, and the underwriters didn't realize that we would actually need to pay the tax bill in full at the closing. (The balance in our escrow account should have paid the taxes.) So midway through the closing, I questioned something on the paperwork - and they realized that we did in fact have to pay the taxes that day or not close - so DK ended up having to go to the bank mid-close and get a cashier's check for more than $4K. Luckily we had the money available and could do it, but I can't imagine how fucked up everything would have been if we hadn't. I was not happy because the money was in in our escrow account and they should have paid the taxes before closing. We then had to wait nearly 3 weeks to get a refund from the escrow (which actually had more available than the tax bill). At this point, I was calling the mortgage company daily on staus updates because they were supposed to rush the check due to their screw-up. They ended up sending us an extra $250 as an apology for all of the nonsense.

This is exactly what I'm worried about; the balance in the escrow account should cover the first half of the year taxes, but the bank hasn't paid them out yet, even though they're due by the end of the month. And we're closing remotely so it's not like we can do anything if all the final numbers aren't right.
  • Good morning.

Yay for @kimmiinthemitten's hubby.  Boo on the job front.

Good luck @charlotte989875 house buying/selling can be so frustrating.

We finally got snow!  Although not nearly enough.   There is a huge storm coming tonight into Thursday.  I'm hoping this will make our season, if not the fate of the restaurant this season is in question.   I have to cut people's hours and delay my own raise until thing pickup.      Could really use some snow vibes for us.

Today is chill day for me.   Laundry, cleaning, running errands and having some friends over for dinner.  Tomorrow I'm also off and  I plan on hiking to work for breakfast with another friend/co-worker.   Although that might be weather dependent if this storm is really as big as they say.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.

There is a REALLY fancy train that goes between NOLA and Chicago.  Like old-timey Murder on the Orient Express kind of train.

Goodness, though.  Fancy trains make cruises look like chump change.  $3500/stateroom for two people.  For a trip that is less than 24 hours.  I think it leaves NOLA at 3PMish and arrives in Chicago at 10AMish the next morning.

I looked it up about a year ago because it sounded so cool.  I believe instinct kicked in and I literally put my hands up to block the screen while I backed away...when I saw the price carnage, lol.  I knew it would be spendy, but I was thinking more in the $500-$700/person range.

    Other than that, SSDD.

My GF had a breech...little bugger wouldn't move no matter what the midwives tried. She ended up scheduled for a c-section.

There was so much black ice this morning I must have looked hilarious waddling to work. It's supposed to rain tomorrow, hopefully we'll have a dry basement or else our shop vacs are going to get a good workout.

I think you two can look into what you like more.   Captain Grants is about equal driving distance between the Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun casinos.   They offer plenty of great dining, gambling and entertainment and Preston is about 20 minutes from Mystic, CT which is one of my favorite towns.

That said, April is a finicky month.  You could have great weather or still be in sweaters.  So if it's rainy and cold you two can decide what you would prefer to do more.

There's a lot there!   There's the space near the aquarium with loads of cute places / shopping / food and then the old seaport space plus the little shops.

Yikes, crazy!  Geez, yeah.  A lot of people aren't in a position to just pull $4K out of their a**.

I also had a closing delayed due to property taxes.  It was basically an unlivable property that had been abandoned for over 10 years, though the owner's brother lived in one unit (despite the horrible conditions).  She was $1800 behind on her property taxes, over a year's worth.

It was an odd situation, in that I was actually buying the property from a wholesaler, not the owner.  A wholesaler is basically a middle-person who scouts around for undervalued properties.  Works out a deal with the owner and then "flips the deal" to an investor.  In our case, it was going to be a "double closing".

As in, the wholesaler would technically buy the property from the owner in the morning on closing day.  And then I would buy the property from the wholesaler in the afternoon.

Anyway...my title company in their due diligence discovered the property tax problem.

So then the closing was delayed for one week while the owner and wholesaler literally argued with each other over "who" was going to pay that delinquency (eye roll).  My wholesaler "lost" the argument...but still made $18K on the deal without doing much, so I don't feel bad for him lol...and paid the taxes THAT morning on the way to his closing.  He had to bring his receipts and all that as proof it was done, lol.

Real estate.  It's always an adventure, lol.

    YES!

This is the location of Mystic Pizza where Julia Roberts worked.   http://www.mytogo.co/Mystic_Pizza_Main/

It's on one of the main roads into Mystic and every time I drive by you can see tourists taking their ceremonial shots with the Mystic Pizza sign over them.   FWIW to date I haven't had it.   Rumor is that it's heavy and greasy and I really prefer New Haven style.    But it's right there and an easy walk from plenty of other spots in town.  I think they've redone the interior since the movie was made.

This is the bar where they meet over a game of pool:

http://zacksbarandgrillect.com/index.php   The fried calamari with peppers is really great.
