Wedding Woes

Hump Day!

We're almost half way through the week! Friday can't come soon enough. The first week of class has been so tough, which was not the best week to start a new workout timing. Also I have my period, so all of that combined to a horrible migraine last night. Seriously I don't know that I've had one this bad, I almost passed out during class. H was about to come pick me up from the office I was so exhausted.

Today is better, slightly. I feel a little like I'm hungover and I'm so sleepy, but the crazy pain is better.

The only silver lining of that ordeal was that I didn't have the capacity to watch the State of the Union last night and I'm not even sorry about that.

I didn't watch SOTU.  My younger sister did and relayed a play by play in my FB sisters chat while my older sister and I made non-watcher commentary.  :D

I sometimes fantasize about turning our house into an 'off the grid' fortress.  It wouldn't take much.  We're already on well and septic and have a perfect storage room.  Plus a fireplace.  :)  We'd never do it, but it's a thought sometimes since it feels like we're getting closer to watching the world burn. :/

Anyway, still in a weird funk.  Last night got a little hinky (DH had a huge meeting that ran really long, so our whole schedule was thrown off).  I need to call the eye doctor's office because DefConn broke his glasses, again.  *sigh*
  • @charlotte989875 My boss has same issue first day of her cycle :( It's no fun.

@southernbelle0915 M's aunt and uncle planned on doing a drinking game to SOTU but decided against it because they didn't wanna be loaded in the middle of the week lol

OB appt yesterday was good. I got my docs for the glucose test, which I think I'll do the same day as my next OB appt at the end of Feb. My nurse said not to change my diet, but don't do what she did and have 4 chocolate chip cookies before it ;)
I'm concerned just because I've been craving sweets for the most part :( I'll just eat normally but try to take it easy on stuff that day to be safe lol
Little one doing well. Reading exact on dates and weight gain. OB confirmed about placenta location and why I feel kicking pretty strong/active :)

I also got a new phone - finally! Ended up sticking with my usual provider because everyone else wanted to charge up the butt *side eye*

I felt productive last night until I realized I didn't do laundry lmao! I pre-cooked ground beef for sheppard's pie tonight, cleaned up the baby clothes in our bedroom and put in the pile of stuff we have in her room.
We're painting soon so we've just been piling stuff around.

I think part of the plan this weekend is to clear up the basement and garage, or at least start. I kinda wanna start sooner than later though because we have other plans.
  • @charlotte989875, I hope you continue feeling better.

@southernbelle0915, (sigh) yes, to all of your post.

I was going to call out sick today, but stupid-stupid timesheets are due.  So I came in.  I might leave at lunch, especially since I'm not that busy anyway.  My cold is actually a bit better, but I am crazy itchy all over my back and parts of my arms.  I'm hating clothes right now and want to go home and change into a tank top, lol.  I took an allergy pill about an hour ago, which usually helps, but I'm still waiting for it to kick in.

On a positive note, my H and I are going to a fancy steakhouse tonight.  Its in the Harrahs casino.  Harrahs gave me a $100 certificate for this restaurant that expires today.  It was the Besh Steakhouse (not sure the new name) and I haven't been there since it "changed ownership".  As in, John Besh stepped down from his restaurant group in disgrace, over multiple sexual harassment complaints.  I'm curious to see if there are any new changes to the menu.

    @short+sassy  Ooh fancy date :)
  • Thanks everyone. I did watch the West Wing in my bed instead of the SOTU and it was a good choice.

In college, I was testing my blood sugar and two of my roommates asked me about how glucometers and blood sugar and all that stuff works.  They'd seen me do it a 100+ times before and knew I had diabetes, this was just the first time they'd asked questions.

After I answered their questions, one of them wanted to test his blood sugar.  I told him the normal range was around 70-120.  He came right in at the top of the normal range and was a little worried about it because "he hadn't eaten all day".  I agreed that, if he hadn't eaten within hours of the test, I'd assume he'd be on the lower end of the range.

Me:  "Are you sure you haven't eaten or drank anything in the last few hours?  Like a Coke, some other sugary drink?"

Him:  "I'm positive!  Should I be concerned?"

His g/f:  "Didn't you have a tamale when we were running errands a little while ago?"

    Him:  "Oh yeah!"  lmao

    Well since it's not a fasting test, I want to be sure I have breakfast at least before going to do the test. But urg, what I eat is so sugary lmao {this morning was a toaster strudel if that says anything ;) }

    But my mum is hypoglycemic and there has been question if I am as well {not easily tested apparently} and no one on my side of family is diabetic - but M has age/weight related diabetes on both sides of his family. {his dad was diabetic until he had gastro surgery but still needs to keep watch and his grandma on his mum's side got diabetes when she hit like 70 I believe}
  • Speaking of Hump Day, did you know that Chris Sullivan from This Is Us is the voice of the GEICO hump day camel?

I'm finally starting to see some improvement although the gross things I cought up leave plenty to be desired.

Need to scoot out of the house at lunch sometime between now and Friday so I can get DH's birthday bourbon.

Chiquito is SUCH a whiny kid sometimes.   I love him but this is a phase Chiquita didn't have and it makes me know that while I love my children, I don't always like them.

DH goes out tonight and I can finally catch up on my This Is US a bit.
  • I hope you continue to feel better @charlotte989875

i hope you feel better too @short+sassy! And have fun tonight!

I couldnt bring myself to watch the SOTU either, although I did read about half of the transcript before I got too angry to continue.

PT this morning, then school. Work the next two days. I’m so tempted to call off. They’ve now encroached into the time limit I gave them for going per diem. I’m trying to move this weekend but we’ll see. I got a quote from some movers and it was nearly $600! For like a three mile move! So I guess we’re going to try to do it ourselves. Ugh.

Wow that's a lot! When we move (and we move a lot) we usually rent and drive the truck ourselves, but hire movers on both ends, so they do all the lifting. It has cut down significantly on how awful moving is, but doesn't (usually) costs us too much.
  • Hi everyone.
Hope everyone is feeling better. I have been working myself crazy on my new quilt. I originally wanted to finish it by April but there is a big quilt show in March I want to enter it in so I have to finish ASAP. Plus MIL is coming in just over a week and we need to get the house cleaned up. I have the dining room chairs sanded but they still need stain. I feel like I am up to my ears in projects and there is never enough time.
  • I didn't think I had a lot of work today and was going to dink around.  5 hrs logged already and 2 more conference calls to go.

I didn't know when my glucose test was going to be, I just got the req, and went down to the lab. The worst part was the disgusting drink, and having to sit still for an hour. I was not a happy camper. I'm not a person who can sit still.

I'm done with this week, can it be Friday. I'm so tired. I'm trying to plan my kid's birthday party and bloody parents aren't RSVPing back. I'm going to have to hunt them down and bug them soon.

If you like a sugary breakfast, consider some alternatives like fruit.  Oatmeal with raisins and/or cranberries or lower sugar flavored oatmeal.  Or "replacement meal" drinks or bars that are high in protein, but low on carbs.  They still have a really sweet taste and I don't know how they do it, lol.  One plain cake donut (no glaze) has 32g of carbs, but only 17 of those grams are sugar.

Caveat: I do not work in the medical field.  But, imho, it probably doesn't matter for one test.  If your pancreas is functioning correctly, even while pregnant, it will produce enough insulin to cover whatever you eat.  I assume that is exactly what they are testing for.  I assume they test your blood sugar right before the test.  Give you a set amount of carbs.  Then monitor your blood sugar levels from the "start point/1st reading" and see if they follow a normal course.

My least favorite myth on the disease is that eating too much sugar/sweets causes diabetes, especially because you hear jokes like that a lot.  @MKD, not saying you're saying that, I know you're pretty knowledgeable on the subject.  Obesity can be a factor in Type II diabetes and, perhaps, eating too many empty sugary calories can cause obesity.  But too much sugar itself? No.

  • Woo hoo! Update.

The client I work for gets free tickets all the time to various shows around town.  I will assume because they give hefty donations to these various venues, lol.

I requested tickets for two different events and got one of them!  The show I got is Shen Yun.  It's from China and is "sort of" like an opera...but with a stronger emphasis on dance, as opposed to music.  Though I hear tell the music is amazing also.

My H will probably not be happy, but his butt is getting dragged to the show anyway, lol.

  • I did not watch the SOTU either.  I can't even listen to the sound of tRumps voice for more than 1 minute, especially when he is spilling pure BS out of it.  Let along watching him talk with the smug a-holes who sit directly behind him during the speech.  I read recaps of it and of course the Fact Check.

Last night's yoga was wonderful!  Really needed it!  I haven't been keeping up with twice per week for a while.  I need to get back on that!

I picked up Chinese on the way home and I ventured off my usual only to be a little disappointed.  I'm not an adventurous eater to begin with, but thought I would order a chow mein.  There were way too many veggies to meat and the veggies were still very crunchy, so it wasn't really a hit for me.  I think I much would have preferred a lo mein, but I may go running back to my typical fried rice!

DD was a happy baby and being her crazy little self.  To top it off, I had a pretty good night's sleep!  First time this week!

Healthy vibes to those who need it and an invisible force field around DefConn's glasses!

    STUCK

Every year they advertise the crap out of Shen Yun here for a February show. It has become an inside joke in my house when we start to see the commercial to yell SHEN YUN

@MissKittyDanger you will hear mixed reviews on the drink and also between flavors. I didn't think it was bad and had no problem drinking it. I chalked it up to me being a sugar addict so the taste didn't bother me

I don't drink pop or juice because I think they're too sweet. People who drink pop and juice or who have sweet stuff on a regular basis didn't have any issues with the test. I thought I was going to puke, but I didn't want to do it again.

    I've heard gestational diabetes apparently can get pretty rough, depending on the person. {like for me, it'd be hard because I love sugar lmfao!}

A former coworker developed gestational diabetes.  I'm sure treatment can depend a lot on the person.  She didn't need to take insulin, but did need to really adjust her diet.  Insulin was going to be a possibility, if it couldn't be controlled with diet, but fortunately she never needed to take it.  Though I think most of the diet changes were more pregnancy related, as opposed to the gestational diabetes part.  She also had to get a glucometer and check her blood sugar often.  I think at least 4x/day, but it may have been more than that.

As far as I know, that was all she needed to do for her gestational diabetes.  Cut out foods high in sugar and test her blood sugar regularly.  For me, that sounded like nbd, lol.  But obviously I'm biased.  I know it can be difficult to make major changes to one's diet.  Otherwise, we'd all be snacking on kale and avoiding pizza.

Like the old joke.  Would we really be living longer?  Or would it just feel that way?

  • @MissKittyDanger I felt like the drink was a very sugary version of sprite (and I love sprite) so the beginning was okay but it got hard to finish it. Not super disgusting but not great.

GD isn’t directly related to how much sugar you eat and what not. I know extremely healthy people who got GD and people like me who stuff their face with donuts, cookies, and ice cream and I was fine. All I craved all pregnancy was sweets and I indulged and didn’t have GD. It ends up being more about balancing carbs and protein, not limiting sugar intake (but that is a small part of it, and a lot of sugary things are carb-loaded).

No. It's only 8ish ounces. Just down it and get it over with. It's not pleasant but it's nothing to be concerned about.

I didn't know when my glucose test was going to be, I just got the req, and went down to the lab. The worst part was the disgusting drink, and having to sit still for an hour. I was not a happy camper. I'm not a person who can sit still.
They gave me a date range, but since I have my next OB appt on Feb 27th I figured I might as well do it same day instead of cutting out of another day.

Is it really that bad? :\ I've heard mixed reviews
No. It's only 8ish ounces. Just down it and get it over with. It's not pleasant but it's nothing to be concerned about.

The bolded is exactly how I would describe it.  I have had to drink it a few times.  When we started with the fertility doctor, I had to have a 3 hour glucose test done.  It showed I was pre-diabetic.  I had the test repeated a few times after to see how my diet changes were helping.  By the time I had my GD test, the drink was NBD.

The flavor I had each time was Orange, which just seemed really weird to my tastebuds that something orange flavored was so sweet.  I have heard they make a cola flavor and I would think that its just like drinking a coke.

Also, you are lucky that you can eat before!  I had to fast each time!  That wasn't so bad when I was not PG, but the test when I was PG was the hardest!  I really wanted to eat!

  • All this talk about sugar has me jonesin' for some cinnamon toast crunch right now. Crappy, sugary cereal is my pregnancy vice. Give me all the golden grahams, french toast crunch, berry berry kix and peanut butter captain crunch!
I craved Salted Caramel Ice Cream. I would buy a pint of it every so often. So good.

    Captain crunch!
I just bought cereal bars that are s'mores golden grahams. I was never a big golden grahams person, but I may give it another shot cuz those bars are great.
Mini wheats {original thanks!} and Corn Pops are also faves :)
