Wedding Woes

Monday...

I'm like a child with DST. I'm gunna be all messed up for like a month.

How was everyone's weekends? Ours was good - really productive. I did all the cleaning while H was at work Saturday so Sunday we were able to FINALLY organize a desk and our filing system. Now mail won't just pile up and we can pay bills efficiently.

Talk to me about no-chip. I've gotten it a couple times but I feel like my nails are really soft and damaged after it comes off (even if I have a salon soak them off). Am I going to bad places or is this normal?

Re: Monday...

  • @shessocold, I find that my nails are weak and brittle in the winter anyway.  I get no chips and they seam to be that way when the polish comes off during the cold months.  In the summer, they're fine.  Have you noticed them being that way in the summer?

Weekend was good.  We got a rug/end table delivered Saturday and then upgraded our mattress (it was still too firm for us) which should get to us on the 20th.  Ate out twice and saw a movie (Strangers prey at night) in the new area and it's so much cheaper than Chicagoland's movies/concessions.  I would move just for the savings on movies alone!  Sunday we  drove back to the apartment to clean it and officially close up shop. yay.  end of an era on that.

Then this morning I found out that my uncle had passed away from a heart attack.  My mom emailed it to me.  "You remember him from your grandpa's 90th birthday party right?" she asked us.  Yes, of course I remember him from the party 2 months ago but also from my childhood! He was young, 70.  But also not very healthy :(

  • Our weekend was also super productive. Got an oil change/tire repair/rotation on Saturday and then we met with our accountant and filed our taxes. Then out to a late lunch/early dinner with Babypants and then we watched Murder on the Orient Express Saturday night and I loved it.

Is no-chip the same as gel? If so, I have done gel and my nails get soft afterwards too. I think it's because air can't permeate the gel polish like it can with traditional polish so your nails weaken as a result, but I could be wrong.
  • So sorry to hear about your uncle @CharmedPam

Weekend was fine; I'm still sick so I wasn't up for much. We saw a few more houses, nothing we want to put an offer in on. We're seeing another tonight that might be good. My sister and I went to see the Price is Right Stage show and it was hilarious. No Drew Carey and we didn't get to Come On Down, but fun nonetheless. I also watched an entire season of Law & Order: SVU while trying to recover from this cold.
  • The weekend was good and bad.  Bad:  The couple who came for the second showing still didn't inquire about filling out an application.  We had another guy who seemed (and said he was) really interested, but also didn't request an application.

Good:  My H and I also had a productive weekend.  We taped off all the trim work on the floor in the rental unit and my H should be finished with that today.  Then the painting will officially be all done.  I can take new pics and post a new ad.

We went out for brunch on Saturday.

That was a pleasant break from the norm.  On Sunday, we did a lot of tv hanging, lol.  Our previous tenants left us a 60" tv.  We hung that in our bedroom, where previously we had a 24" tv.  So that was a nice upgrade.  Then, in our living room, we previously had our 55" tv on a stand.  We hung that one up on the wall and took out the stand.  It is a long, but narrow room.  We have a lot more space now, plus it's just a better spot for watching the tv.  We like the new set-up so much more!

@CharmedPam, I'm very sorry about your uncle.

I had a volunteer project scheduled for Sunday morning and I was worried I'd oversleep through it because of Daylight Savings Time. But I got barely any sleep that night and got to the volunteer location on time. It didn't interfere with the volunteer work but I was sleepy after that, though.
  • @CharmedPam I'm so sorry to hear about your uncle. Hugs!
  • Oh no, Pam. I'm so sorry about your uncle.

  • @ShesSoCold I've always been messed up on DST, mostly on the backwards one. My mum says is because I was born too close to the time change lol

    Weekend was good.
I was off Friday because my BFF was in town and rarely see her. We hit up the mall and spent too much {lol} but it's all great stuff.

NYX - got the "I love you Mochi" electric palette, a lippie and eye liner. Almost picked up a face wash but knew we were stopping at Lush and didn't really 'need' a face wash {didn't really need a new lippie either but whatever lol} I may end up picking it up next time I'm there though ....

Lush - Got shampoo "jersey bounce", and "scrubee" {which is a cocoa butter & almond grounds body butter/exfoliate} It also makes you waterproof if you put on a lot lol Picked up "the big sleep" bath bomb for my mum cuz her bday is tomorrow.

Saturday - went to M's dad's place. Cluttered place, but good. 14 cats, 2 sheppards. Too cluttered for the animals. M's dad is vaguely hoarder ....
    It was funny at one point though. About 4yrs ago - shortly after my dad passed - we had gone to visit. They weren't entirely sure what to do, so they brought me up to see kittens. One baby orange one was named Spock {M's stepbrother was keeping that one}
I forget how much cats can grow in 4yrs! He's grown so much, I didn't realize that was the same cat until sBIL said his name.

M has a bff when we go. Torty cat named Abby. He sits, she's on him. Never fails. She adores him lol

It helped give us an idea on sheppard sizing though. Since likelihood we're not having another kid {M is aware, we're having the discussion in a few years anyways} we're looking at a dog. M wants a sheppard, and his dad suggested Euro. They have a Euro & North American. Even though the North American is female {and typically smaller} I think we'll go with a male north american anyways .... Euro is a bigger size, and I feel our house would probably feel too small for him - at least I feel it'd be too small for a bigger dog.
    {fyi - yes I know Sheppards are bigger dogs in general. The hope is to find a smaller type in that breed}

Sunday - went for breakie with my mum and her bf. He's just an odd dude, but he makes my mum happy.
We had a bit of a chat. I had mentioned my dad a few times, and I guess I looked like I felt bad bringing my dad up in front of him, so he wanted to clarify that I shouldn't feel bad. He was my dad. He's not gonna try and replace him in any way, he just wants to be there for my mum and hopefully me as well.

Mondays suck. Mondays right after time change suck even more.
  • Can we just do away with DST all together? I get that at one point it was valuable, now everyone just complains about it and I see zero value in effing up everyone's sleep.
  • @ShesSoCold & @CharmedPam Best thing I do for my nails is soak them in olive oil {EVOO ideally but works with veggie oil if you have it} & salt. Soak up to at least cuticles for about 10mins, use cotton pad to wipe extra but don't wash off. Depending on how bad it is, depends on how many times a week to do it. Start off with 2x/week, but then you can lower it as your nails get better. Winter sucks on everything :(

Some places don't have it :(

Arizona doesn't.  When I lived in CA, a friend and I were flying out to visit a mutual friend going to University of Arizona.  It was during the time of year when Arizona is one hour off from CA, because they don't participate in DST.  As such, our flight arrived 10 minutes after we had taken off.  We got a kick out of that, lol.

  • When procrastination pays off...

It usually doesn't.  I'd know.  I'm Procrastination Queen.  But I've had two instances this week where it did:

    1. I'd been putting off filing (for my steel project) at work for months.  Mainly because the binders were all over-stuffed, so filing the new items meant a complete binder overhaul.  Binders I don't have because they are a scarce commodity.  On Fri., the engineer I support for that told me not to worry about it.  He said we'll probably just be throwing all of that away in about 6 months anyway.  Woo hoo!
    2. I never switched the clock in my car over from the last DST (whatever the previous one was called).  So now the time is correct again!  Hahaha.

  • I hate DST - really, I hate that we can't pick one time.   Just pick a time!

Chiquita was up vomiting this morning but once she got real clothes on around 10 AM she started break dancing in the kitchen (well, sort of break dancing?   She calls it dancing.   Picture a 7 year old doing the Elaine).

I'm trying to cycle laundry and working with the knowledge that we're in for ANOTHER storm and I fear a power loss may be in our future.   Based on this forecast I wouldn't be surprised if the daycare is closed in addition to the school.   DH will be awesome and staying home too if that's the case.

@CharmedPam I'm sorry to hear about your uncle!

I don't notice a difference with the seasons, I don't think. But when I get the no-chip removed, then I feel like I can tell where it was and it takes months for it to grow out, almost like having fakies, ya know? I feel like they break much more easily until it's grown out.

I might give it another shot anyway. My nails are super long right now, one has a crack on the edge, super far down so it'll hurt like a bitch if it breaks all the way across. And H apparently loves nail polish so I'm trying to keep them done and it's a PITA to do them at home all the time. Short story long, my nails need professional help.

    Sorry for your loss @CharmedPam

Weekend was all right.  I was supposed to get together with a friend and she bailed at the last second.  :-/  We went downtown Saturday afternoon, which was nice because it wasn't too busy and the weather was decent.  We got to hear a local bagpiper group practicing in the firefighter union hall.  Yesterday, it was cold and dreary.  We had a fire and I made a big pot of spaghetti.

IDK what it is, but Sunday nights always suck for me. I couldn't sleep again last night.  I'm tired and cranky.  Blerg.

  • thanks for the condolences everyone :)

LOL @short+sassy, there's a meme going around about how to deal with time changes and the last one is the electrical appliance category "not worth it.  Wait 6 months".  SOOOOO true!  My stove has been known to be off an hour 6 months of the year.

@misskittydanger, I WILL have to try this olive oil & salt dip.  I have another no chip on Saturday.

@CHarmedPam I'm sorry for your loss

The weekend was fun, but busy.  DH got home just in time Friday night so I didn't have to drag everyone to soccer.  Saturday am I woke up early for no apparent reason then did a speed walk through a craft show to get my Pioneer Days dress and bonnet (!?!?!).  As soon as we got home we loaded up to head to the soccer game.  We tailgated a bit then headed in to A FANTASTIC game.  One player hit his 50th career goal and we one in a penalty kick in stoppage time. THEN we went to Dave & Buster's for M2's birthday fun.

Sunday was church, donuts after, then home for lunch.  M2 and I went to order her bday cake then headed to the OSU women's gymnastics meet.

I also put together my menu for her party- sloppy joes, mac and cheese, fruit platter, veggie platter, pretzel nuggets, apple cole slaw, lime fluff (just for my MIL), cake and ice cream. If I'm feeling up to it I might do deviled eggs.  Considering DH is working the day before the party I'm guessing this won't get done.

Today is PTO bullcrap and teaching tonight.

  • Sorry to hear about your uncle @CharmedPam - he's younger than my dad!

@ShesSoCold I feel the gel weakens my nails too, but it's the only nail polish that doesn't chip, and seems to prevent my nails from breaking.  I'm way overdue.  I have deep nail-beds, so I have to constantly clean my nails, and I like the way polish hides it.

Weekend was good!  Friday I had dinner with some girlfriends, Saturday was a wedding, and we nailed it!  Sunday, was Hubs time - we're scheduling time together now LOL.  We went to brunch, finally ordered blinds (top down, bottom up and I'm so excited!), went out for a couple more drinks and then had some campaign work to do, that we tackled together.

But then I got a migraine.  I've gotten them occasionally to the point where I hide in the bedroom under the covers. Before last night, I didn't realize that the right eye headaches I get often are a moderate form of migraines.   I should probably see a doctor about this now that I know I'm getting migraines regularly.

Headache stuck around this morning, so I went back to sleep -until 10:30!  I feel great now though!  Tonight, I'm phone banking for our friend who is running for Attorney General while Hubs does call time (his least favorite campaign job - calling people and asking for money).

That's pretty common among politicians-- at least the good ones.
  • @CharmedPam also helps decrease hang nails, which are my biggest issue often :(
  • Pam - Sorry for your loss.

This weekend was just busy, busy, busy.  Friday night I got some shopping done to prep all the food to cook for my parents.  It saved me a shopping trip on Saturday morning.  I started cooking Saturday morning and got about half the meals done.  They were vacuum sealed and in the fridge by the time we left for my good friend's son's birthday party.  He turned 2 and is a cute little bugger!  We came home and mostly vegged.

DD was in a cranky and fussy mood most of Saturday and Sunday.  So she was a pill to deal with!  I think we should be at the end of it, I think it was mostly from her shots last Saturday.

Sunday we did church in the morning and then breakfast at a diner. I finished up all the meals, vacuumed them and took them over to my parents house.  My mom seems in good spirits and was anxious to get things started.

She is in surgery now.  I will go sit with her after work for a while.  My dad will be going to dinner at my sister's house, to keep him busy and away from the hospital.  My dad always tries to "help" my mom, but it usually has the opposite effect on her.  So we are keeping him away and I will just sit with her, even if she is sleeping.  She will most likely come home tomorrow.  We are keeping her dog until my mom feels up to having her back home, but probably on Wednesday.

  • @OliveOilsMom forgive me for not remembering, what surgery did your mom have?  Hope it goes well and she heals easily!
    image
  • @CharmedPam so sorry about you uncle.

@OliveOilsMom hope all goes well with your Mom's surgery.

Weekend was good. DS1 and DIL came to the island while DS2 and GF were here. I love it when the kids are together. It was nice that DS1 and DIL stayed for a bit after the others left though. We very seldom get time alone with them since they are only home at Christmas - they live 9 hours away from us but only 2 hours from this island. The other two kids live closer to our home so we see them more often during the year. The weather was good here over the weekend but today (our last ) it is raining - boo. Yesterday we took a long bike ride which was glorious. I'm loving the outdoor activity that warmer weather offers - I don't like to be outside in the cold! Tomorrow we will be on the road all day (doggie downers for the pups) and then back to reality.
  • @Kimmiinthemitten My mom is having a double mastectomy.  They are including the lymph nodes, but I don't know if that is typical or outside of the norm for the procedure.
  • Sorry for your loss Pam.
We don’t have DST here and it is great. But I was definitely a persons whose clock was wrong for 6 months. No shame about it.

I was freaking out because places here have been advertising Mother’s Day specials. I was like, Why isn’t FB reminding me of this!?. Turns out some places celebrate it in March... so weird.

I have been going through a rough time because I recently found out I am pregnant. I am pretty devastated tbh and fighting hard not to spiral. DH is thrilled so it makes everything worse.

My birthday is tomorrow. DH and I are going out to dinner. Idk if I mentioned before but I started working and this is the beginning of my second week, I think it is going good and I hope my superiors think so too.
  • @OliveOilsMom sending good vibes your mom's way! Hope her surgery goes well!

We have a DOOZY of a storm coming tomorrow - upwards of 18" expected with whiteout conditions throughout the day. Our team was supposed to have professional development meetings tomorrow through Thursday, but looks like that is definitely not happening for at least tomorrow. Our team members who flew in today from CA and FL are going to have a blast weathering the storm from their hotel rooms - snow is always so much more fun when you take away the responsibilities that go with it.
  • MJL - Hugs to you.  If you want to talk out some of your issues related to the pregnancy, you have a bunch of internet strangers listening when you are ready.  If you don't want to talk here, I'm sure there are many internet forums you could find to help talk everything out there too.  I know there are just some things that are hard to talk out with people you know IRL.
