Pregnancy scare

Ok so last night right before bed I got very nausous and I still feel nausous this morning. I want to take a pregnancy test but I'm on HBC and idk if it can detect pregrancy while still taking the pill. I'm asking you all first because I have been married a little over two months and I don't want to tell anyone in my family that I might be pregnant. Feel free to post here or PM me.

    I would wait until when your period is supposed to start. The test will probably be more accurate then. Maybe you have the flu or ate something bad. I wouldn't automatically assume you were pregnant

    Yeah I agree with PP. Don't worry about it too much. If you take the pill at certain times of the day it can make you feel like that. It could be something as easy as that. If you are taking HBC the way it is prescribed (same time every single day) it is very effective. If you are new on the pill, your body may take some time adjusting to the hormones and can make you feel nauseas anyway. Praying for you!

    I agree with the girls. Wait until your period is actually late. I know it can be scary, though! 

    I've had a couple of pregnancy scares and honestly, the best thing to do is to try to remain calm. There is no sense in worrying about it because either.. 1. you aren't pregnant and you wasted all that energy and time worrying.. or 2. you are and worrying wouldn't have fixed anything anyways! ;)

    If I may ask.. how long have you been on the pill? It takes at least 3 months for your body to adjust to the pill so if you have just started, more or less, it could be the pill itself making you feel icky. 

    Also, when are you supposed to get your period? 

    Hang in there and again, try not to worry!

    Ditto pp's I would wait until your period is late. It's hard to wait, but try not to worry yourself silly until you have more proof that you may actually be pregnant. Us ladies get nauseous for many different reasons.. being overtired, getting a touch of a bug, eating something bad, adjusting to your BC pills, or you may be coming down with something. If your symptoms increase such as frequent urination, sore boobs, exhaustion, dizziness,etc.. then it's time to take a pregnancy test. Praying for peace of mind for you. Keep us updated.

    I agree with everyone else! Wait until you miss your period. IF that happens, then take the test. You can get pregnant on the pill, but it's very rare. Everything will be great!

    BCP or not, the pregnancy tests aren't accurate until you're in the week where your period is late.

    Hmmm... this is tricky.  I mean, what if you always "miss a period" in between because that's the way your body reacts?  How would you then know your period is late?  I don't know much about pregnancy scares, but I just thought I would raise that point, too.  Hope it works out!

    G, if you usually miss your period on the pill, you should still wait until it's time for a new pack to take a test, assuming you're on 4-week packs.

    On a 4-week pack, weeks 1 and 2 begin preparing your body to suppress ovulation. Week 3 is when you would usually ovulate, but the pills should prevent that. Week 4 is when you menstruate, or would usually. The Week 4 pills are placebos. So you're not in missed-your-period range until the new pack.

    BTW, this means you can only get pregnant in week 3/4. Not the whole 14 days, but a few days somewhere in there.

    OP should keep taking her pills! They won't hurt a baby, if there is one, and she clearly wants them to be working. They can't work if you don't take them (with the exception of week-4 pills, which don't do anything but keep you in the habit of taking your pills).

    I don't know how 90-day packs work.

    Ditto waiting until your period is actually late.  But yes, the pregnancy test can detect a pg even when on HBC.

    Yes, a pregnancy test can detect pregnancy when on birth control.  But, feeling naseous is just one of MANY pregnancy symptoms, and like PPs said, there are tons of other things that might be making you feel naseous. 

    But, I'm actually going to go against what everyone else said... just go over to the dollar store and get a pregnancy test (yes, the dollar store sells them, and yes they are the same as the ones in other stores).  Test for the piece of mind so you won't worry yourself sick while waiting for your period!

    AbbeyLynne, if she's really worried, and really pregnant, she needs to test at period-time, too. You can get a false negative if you test too soon. (When I volunteered at a crisis pregnancy centers, we'd have teenagers come in really soon after sex to ask for free pregnancy tests. We'd give them a test, but we had to counsel them to come back in a few weeks because, again, if you take a pregnancy test too soon you can get a false negative.)

    The pg test measures HCG levels, also known as the pregnancy hormone.  The longer you're pregnant, the higher your HCG levels.  It takes a few days after fertilzation for the HCG to come up to a level where a HPT can detect it, so (as I now see Elisabeth said), testing too early may result in a false negative.

    Incidentally, HCG levels in women carrying a female are generally higher, so if you get an early positive there's a stronger than average chance you're having a girl.

    Nausea was my first symptom. I had it about 4 days after I ovulated, so super early. I waited a few days and took a pregnancy test, and it was negative. I didn't test positive until the day after my period was supposed to come. Even though the test says 6 days before missed period, that didn't happen for me.

    So if you test now, just don't be reassured since it's likely too early. The hormones in BCPs aren't the same as the pregnancy hormones, so the test should work just fine once you're in the range to test. 

    You're likely not pregnant-- it's hard to get pregnant!-- but it's especially hard on BC pills if they're being taken properly (no skips or anything) and there's literally only like 2-4 days of the month where pregnancy is even a possibility...
