Wedding Woes

Wednesday

I'm not going to act shy anymore and keep checking until someone else makes a post. LOL

Looks like winter is back in Chicago. At least we got a beautiful Cubs home opener this year!

Ya know the motorcycle that H (then BF) bought that nearly broke us up? He told me like a month ago he was considering selling it. I was floored. He always said he would NEVER sell it (it's his dad's). He said it just wasn't his style of riding and he doesn't enjoy it nearly as much as he thought he would. But last night he got it running and now he's like a little kid. He loves it again. He was all giddy when he took me out for a ride.

So all of this is well and good and I support whatever he wants but HOLY BAD TIMING, Batman! We are moving across the country in 3 weeks. So we either need to figure out a way to get it there ($$$$$$$$$) or get rid of it. Like, NOW. Ughhh.

Re: Wednesday

  • Your husband @ShesSoCold, = mine.  But mine would have no idea how to get his tuned up.  It still works it is 20+ years old!  Plus he just spent $150 or something on vanity plates for it.  Smh.

i’m officially a snob.  Sunday my friends and H and I went to dinner and to see Pet Sematary.  We met half way at a theatre which didn’t have dolby.  H slept through half of it anyway.  We went again to see it last night in dolby completely captivating and it was so much better, much like I predicted. Yup.  Now I’m a movie format snob.

tonight I have a dentist appt and then I have to pick up some chicken on the way home to make my kung pao chicken from a new meal kit delivery I tried.  Why do I have to pick up chicken, you ask, when it should be included?  Either because they only sent me half the amount of chicken they should have or they actually meant to give me the smallest portion in the world.  Fyi, it’s dinnerly and fyi, you get what you pay for.  They boast the $38.99/wk meal kit delivery perk ... but there’s no way the chicken I got was meant for 2 people.  I went straight back to homechef.

  • I posted some but only sporadically. I still lurk a lot though and want to try posting again now that I'm back from maternity leave.

My Husband had a motorcycle when we first started dating and while it was fun we started riding it less and less and then I got pregnant and He maybe took it out once the entire season. I was so happy when he decided on his own to sell it. Lol. Maybe when the kids are older we will get one again.
  • Pam - we've tried a couple of the home delivery services when they have good deals and my H always bitches about portion sizes. I try to remind him that his idea of a portion is usually twice what an actual portion is. Not that I'm saying you did that but more of that is why we don't do the boxes haha. Generally speaking I much prefer to cook and get multiple meals out of something but with so many of those boxes you barely get enough for 2 servings and hope you're not hungry in an hour.

Motorcycles: my H had 2 when we got together. One crotch rocket and one Harley. He never really rode either since he didn't have anyone to ride with and he much prefers taking out his Mustang anyway. I was not sad to see either of those go and I still can't figure out how they both fit in the garage

My dad actually wants to sell 2 of his Harleys, and I've been begging H for us to buy my favorite one. But he's standing firm on us not getting it.
  • Halfway to the weekend.  :D  I stayed up too late watching Schitt's Creek last night.  (I just started it last week and am on season 2, so fucking funny.)

We facetimed with my nephew last night for his 1st bday.  He wasn't sure what to think, and his brother was trying to steal thunder because, 3 year olds.  ;)  We're going over to OH this weekend for his bday party.

The weather is crappy today.  I want my sunshine back.

I tried a new workout yesterday and now I'm sore AF.  Clearly, I was in a rut with what I was doing before.

    Other than that, SSDD.
  • @charlotte989875 I meant to ask yesterday, what was the total mileage between the two runs?
  • We were a comedy of errors last night!  So we get to Betucci's and its before 5:45.  We should basically walk right in and get a table right away.  Except the waiting area is packed and the host looks lost.  The majority of the people were together and needed a big table.  But the host ignored everyone else.  2 other groups come in behind us and we are just standing there.  Eventually a waitress comes over and takes our name and says it will be about 10 mins.  Fine, that's not a big deal.  The large group finally gets their table and they leave.  The host comes back and seats the next people on the list.  Then the host goes to the pizza station and starts working back there.  More people come in and they are just standing around waiting.  H then tells me its 6:20.  So we were there for 30 mins and the host is not even coming back to the front to get more people checked in, let alone seating the rest of us in a half empty restaurant.

H then mentions Buffalo Wild Wings, since they are across the parking lot.  I'm still watching the host ignore people at the front and work pizza.  As a former restaurant worker, I am very lenient with restaurant employees.  But the fact this guy is ignoring everyone sitting around and waiting to check in?  Nope!  So we leave and go to BWW.  We sit right down and get our order in quick.  Dinner was great, DD ate amazingly well, and we had lots of chicken left over since it was buy one, get one of the boneless nuggets.  Once we got the bill, DD was getting antsy since it was after 7 and close to bedtime.  So I packed her up and we walked back to the car, so H can pay.  The whole time, I'm watching for H thinking "don't forget the leftovers".  H walks out and I go pick him up.  We get home and give DD her bath and relax the rest of the night.  At 9:30 we go up to bed and H says "Crap" - we left our leftovers!  Ugh!  So much chicken got tossed :(  Sometimes, we just have to laugh cause otherwise it makes us so mad!

    Tonight is yoga at work.

  • @charlotte989875 I meant to ask yesterday, what was the total mileage between the two runs?
I did 4 in the morning run and 5 in the afternoon run; so not really big mileage. I’ll do 12 over the two runs tomorrow.
  • I *hate* leaving behind leftovers at a restaurant!  I only eat about half an entree when we go out, so it's definitely my lunch plan for the next day.  And boo to that host/restaurant for not being able to manage the situation...on a damn Tuesday night.
  • I hope you can get some answers and a positive test soon @cupcait927

FI used to ride, but about 7 years ago a woman ran a red light and slammed into him at 50 miles an hour. He was pretty messed up and it’s taken him years to recover and he’s still not the same. He’s gone back and forth with getting another bike. I would really rather he not. Riding here is dangerous.

School today. I was able to hang out with bff and an old friend yesterday so that was nice. I am supposed to go to a review for my test this weekend and I’m not looking forward to it. I have to pack tonight and it just seems like so much effort.

I'm still bitter about leaving behind about 90% of an entire meal like 10 years ago at a nice restaurant because I wasn't hungry but had dinner plans so I got something I could easily reheat.

@ShesSoCold, crossing my fingers for ya that your H will just want to sell it.  I'd hate for you all to have to move it cross country.  He rides it a few times because it's a "new again" toy.  Then it breaks down.  And many more years go by where it just holds down the garage floor.

@CharmedPam, I've only tried Home Chef Hello Fresh and was already disappointed with the portion sizes.  Plus, despite all the advertising claims, it was still a LOT of work!  For only two smallish dinners.  I'm with @kvruns on that.  My time is much better spent buying food cheaper at the grocery store and making a large enough portion for leftovers.  Thanks for the warning, I definitely need to avoid dinnerly!

Edit: I lied, it is Hello Fresh I've used, lol.

@Jstump2, good to see you again!

@cupcait927, good luck with the new OBGYN!  I hope they can find a solution for you all.

@charlotte989875, congrats on the piano!  Fun!  I took lessons for years when I was a kid.  I could see getting a piano if I ever have a large enough house.  Though I think ever having a "large enough" house is unlikely, lol.

My H and I did a major grocery shopping trip last night.  Include my H or not.  It's always a tough call, lol.  I can do the shopping part so much faster without him.  He takes a long time to look at things and decide.  We stop in areas I usually don't bother.  Like the candy aisle, lol.  But then, it's so helpful to have an extra pair of hands to bag the groceries at checkout and then load the car.

My H is going to inquire about a p/t hotel maintenance job near us.  It's a small (16 rooms), but very fancy, boutique hotel in the French Quarter.  We have a friend who has been doing it, but gave his 2-week notice last week.  We're hoping the owner will be happy to have someone ready to just step into those shoes and it will be a win-win for everyone.

But now I have to vent about this friend.  He's one of those people who constantly makes bad decisions.  We hate to see him do it.  We sometimes cringe.  But, what are you gonna do (shrug).  We'll give him advice and suggestions when he complains about or is thinking about something.  But he's VERY set in his ways and doesn't plan well.  It's just frustrating to see because he's a very skilled plumber and could easily be making BANK but, instead, chose to live in poverty for the last year.  He at least lives on a "fixer-upper" boat, so his expenses are low.  But it doesn't have a working bathroom or kitchen, so it's not a comfortable existence.

It started with his truck breaking down.  I get it, a major blow.  But that's been one of his many excuses for throwing up his hands for the last year.  Originally, this job was supposed to be a stop gap for him to save money to either fix the truck or buy another used one.  Supposedly he is buying a $600 used truck on Fri.  Except it's not even a done deal.  Who knows how long a $600 truck will last.  But he's already given notice at his job, smh.  At least him quitting might be an opportunity for my H.  I just wish plumber friend was leaving out of strength instead of the super sketchy financial situation he is still in.

  • @CharmedPam we use the meal kits whenever we get  a good discount. I can't see ever paying full price and use them more as meal inspiration when we fall in a rut. I can see grocery stores doing their own version in the future. select a few meals and have all the ingredients put in your cart for store pick up. I can see doing that!

Hope your new doctor can provide answers and help @cupcait927!  That sounds like a frustrating night @OliveOilsMom
I still haven't tried meal kits although the idea intrigues me.  Small portion sizes would throw me though- we all do a pretty good job in our house of eating correct portion sizes at meal time but I really count on having leftovers of whatever I've made for dinner to use for lunch the next day or in some other form for another dinner.
And I had no idea how popular motorcycles were!  I don't know anyone personally who owns one or even who's ridden on one.  SSDD by me.  Car is having her struts and whatever else it was fixed.
  • Re: meal kits. We've tried a bunch of them (Home Chef, Hello Fresh, Blue Apron and Plated) and so far, Home Chef has been my favorite. Plated was highly disappointing, considering the cost (luckily we got a free week). Hello Fresh has sent me either the wrong ingredients or moldy food far too many times. Home Chef actually made enough for leftovers for H the next day from most of the meals. We also don't get them unless we have a discount because I can make dinners for FAR cheaper. It's just nice to have on those weeks where I don't want to shop or want something creative/different that I wouldn't normally make.

I’m not sure our house is actually big enough, but it’s in and not going anywhere now!

I hear you on the friend. That’s tough and I imagine frustrating after a while.

Totally agree that Home Chef is the best. I get a box from them every week now.
  • For those who don't like the work of the dinner boxes, we tried Gobble and it was by far the most simple to cook.

Just ordered meals for next week! $36 for an intro week isn't bad. I wouldn't pay their full price though.

@short+sassy, wait was this your friend who left his truck that broke down in your driveway for far to long?
@climbingwife, glad to see you do it too!  I keep on going back to HC.  I don’t get it every week, depending on recipes and what I’m doing, but enough to make me a good customer of theirs.
@oliveoilsmom that’s a shame! I love leftovers for lunch the next day.  I actually like BWW too - last time I wanted to go - I looked up a small order of traditional wings and it was like 30 WW points or something high like that so it stopped me from going.

Edit: went and checked.  31 for not even the small traditional wing order - but SNACK size (what?  6 wings?)

actually I think a few grocery stores have started this. Kroger I think paired up with homechef and I know blue apron was doing one with another popular chain.  One of my friends used to work for blue apron. I always got the inside scoop.

Such a good idea!  It makes me wonder why more grocers haven't jumped on board, but I'll assume there's reasons.

Though, around me, Whole Foods does something like this.  They're in the deli area and it's one container that includes an entrée, one side, and one veggie.  Usually a decent enough portion size for 4 meals and costs $20-$25, depending on the entree.  The biggest difference from the online meal kits is there is no preparation involved at all, just cooking.  And the container is already made to be put directly in the oven.

My only gripe is the selection of these meal kits is extremely limited.  They only have about 3-4 choices.  They never change and only 1-2 seem to be available at any given time.

You have a great memory!  Yes, that is the same guy.  Not my driveway, alas I don't have one, but he left that truck abandoned on my street.  11 months ago.  And it is STILL there, smh.

Apparently my neighbors are much nicer than me, lol.  I haven't called to have it towed because he is our friend.  But if I didn't know whose abandoned truck that was, I would have called to have it towed months ago.

We've even warned him over the past few months that he's way past living on borrowed time and now, with Jazz Fest coming up in a couple weeks, it's much more likely the neighbors will have his truck towed.  There is an extended family who own three houses on my street and two houses on the cross street and they "sell" the street parking where his truck is located during the Festival.  Yes, it is super eye-rolling they sell public parking, feel very entitled to, and see nothing wrong with it.  But they do and I know they won't be happy to have that truck in their way.

In fact, when he was talking about the $600 truck he is buying, I jumped on the opportunity to ask him what he is planning to do with his old truck.  He seemed to have already thought of that.  He still has a bunch of his tools in that truck and is going to move them to the new truck.  Then he is going to call and have a scrapper take it away.  We'll see (crossing fingers).

  • @cupcait927 - I hope you get some answers about the baby stuff, I'm thinking of you guys!

Related to meal kits - I've done Hello fresh, Blue Apron and SunBasket.  Agree with most PP's that I probably wouldn't do it regularly at full price but they're great sometimes.  Hello Fresh I thought had really good portion sized and I never had an issue with moldy food.  They're beef was never great quality but I didn't expect that from a meal kit and i'm picky about my meat.  I did think the selections got really old after awhile though.  Blue Apron was good and had more variety I thought.  I also like how Blue Apron will partner with WW, or Whole30, or something like that and offer a number of selections for a month that fit within a certain diet.  Sunbasket was by far my favorite.  Really interesting recipes and things that I probably would never make on my own, but loved trying.  It had a ton of variety and add-on options for swapping ingredients and stuff like that.

Definitely worth a try if you're in a cooking rut!  Also, it's only H and I in our house so portions for all of them were fine for a meal with no leftovers.  But I cook like that anyway, lots of leftovers tend to not get eaten in our house.

  • Holy shit 11 months?! Noooooope.

Yeah, Pam, we're not huge BWW people but we had a gift card and I sit down and try to find something I can eat and everything was like, more than my daily allotment of points. I don't remember what I got but it was not worth the points. Maggiano's was the same way. I'll never forget the first time I opened Maggiano's in the WW app and every entree was like 60+ points.
