we can’t avoid it.
I had a horrible Friday! I stayed late on Friday and drive right to my friends house who had surgery that day. I parked my car around 6:30ish on her side street like I normally do, and went to walk up to her unit, which faces a semi busy road. A car, going pretty fast, was passing and I heard a loud noise. Apparently it bumped the curb and parts of the car had some pieces fly off. I thought to myself, ‘man, that person is going to be upset’. It kept on going fast too. I watched it as it kept on going even after it brushed the curb. It Drove right into a street sign and then slammed into a tree, not stopping. Like, 45ish miles/hr. It took me a good second to figure out what I was even seeing. I gasped as I was stopped and watched it all unfold. Something told me to grab my phone and call 911 and I did. People started to run to the car from the nearby park and out if their houses (the tree was on someone’s property). Cars driving by stopped to help. I was across the street from it all.
Thank goodness others knew what to do. I froze. I would have NO idea what to do. I was able to be calm to the 911 operator as I told her where it was and what happened. I’m sure I was one of the 20 people who did call. It was AMAZING how many people were trying to help her (we found out later it was a woman). She did not make it. There was a coroner/detective on site and they were there well over 3 hours. It was so sad and really surreal to witness that. I was probably one of the few who saw it happen from the start. The car coming from the opposite end stopped and was talking to cops and I figured she saw what I saw so no need to ask if they needed another eye witness.
