Wedding Woes

Tuesday!

Mornin everyone!
Ugh I had the worst dream around 3:30 that a plane crashed through our house.  I even leapt up to run to the kids' room, it was too life-like.  That 9/11-related sadness I may have mentioned has settled back in so maybe it was related to that.  Who knows...either way I couldn't get back to sleep so I just got up for the day.  Workout done, showered and breakfast made.  The kids are up now and asking for breakfast but I try to hold them off until 6  :p

Re: Tuesday!

  • I hate that when that happens, @ei34! I've been waking up around 4:30 for the last few days (thankfully no life like dreams) but have been able to make myself go back to sleep. Hope you get to take a rest today - highly unlikely with little ones. Boy your kids are up early too!

I’m feeling rough this morning. My mom has been having a lot of undiagnosed health issues- pain, numbness, tingling, double vision, vertigo, etc. she’s never fully recovered from toe surgery last summer that lead to a broken shoulder then a broken foot.

Yesterday she was walking down the steps to a friend’s cellar. She fell and had to go to the Ed for suspected broken ribs. The good news is they aren’t broken but she’s in a ton of pain. It feels like she’s just going downhill. She took my kid hiking (super easy paved trails) and and keeps saying she needed to remember it all because she’ll never get there again.

I hate this. It feels like she’s changed a ton in a year. She’s 73.

Also, my dad is terrible at communicating stuff. usually my doctor brother translates to the rest of us. He will even look at charts (with permission) but he’s overseas right now.
  • I hate dreams like that! They usually stay with me all day too. Also feel you on the 9/11 stuff. Usually when we get to that week, I'm very depressed and somber. I just can't shake it. I try not to watch all the 9/11 related programs on TV, but I usually end up watching something and sobbing.

I actually slept great last night. This cooler weather has been fantastic.
  • @ei34, I was wondering who had started the daily post so early in the morning, lol.  But I'm sorry you had such a terrifying and vivid dream.

@6fsn, I'm so sorry to hear about all the health problems your mom is having.  And I'm sure it's especially frustrating that there isn't any explanation for a lot of it.  Especially nowadays, 73 seems too young to be going downhill.  I hope she heals quickly from this last fall and is out of pain soon.

Another busy day at work, but I'm taking Fri. and shooting for leaving early on Thurs.  I also need to put together FOUR security deposit dispensation letters to mail on either Thurs. or Fri.  I usually don't even do that many in a whole year, much less at the same time, lol.  All four of them are completely pointless, but still required by law.  And I fully expect that all four of them will be returned to me as "undeliverable" anyway, lol.

Three of them were those God awful tenants in the duplexes I purchased who, not by my choice, lived out their security deposit among other things.  The fourth one was my tenant at a different location who coincidentally moved at around that same time.  I already texted her about the couple minor things I deducted and paid her via Paypal a few weeks ago.  But I still need to send her the letter just to have my i's dotted and t's crossed.

This weekend, we brought home our newest family member. A puppy is such a bad idea right now, but DH wanted her so badly. Normally, he's super responsible and pulls his weight around the house. So when he said he'd be willing to do the work, I was on board. Within 24 hours of agreeing to take her, he found out he had to travel for the next 3 weeks. So he got to spend 2 days with her and had to leave, and I'm on my own with a new puppy. Luckily, my boss is a dog person and is being really flexible with my WFH until she's house trained and into a routine. So, here's the new baby!

  • Yay for new puppy @MyNameIsNot!!

thats really touch @6fsn. It’s hard to see your parents struggle. When my Dad was really sick last summer it was hard thinking about him having such a hard time even though their still young.

  • The extra dog went home yesterday and the house seems much quieter! Not too much here, work is still really busy and probably will be for a while. I’m trying to not let it get to me or make me stay later than I should!
  • @ei34 I swear I've had such a realistic dream that the next week I had weird flashbacks. Tbh with 9/11 coming up in 2 weeks, it might be beneficial for you to do some self-care stuff. Could help ease the issue.

@6fsn Your poor family :( It's hard to see family age, especially when it turns into something like that. My mum is having a mortality issue with her mum lately too and she's ... 78 I believe? Hopefully they figure out the issues and get it dealt with soon!

@short+sassy  what are security deposit dispensation letters?
  • @ei34 sorry for the realistic bad dream, that would be tough to fall back asleep after

@6fsn sorry to hear about your mom. I worry about mine too. Mine really struggles to get around and she's just 70 this year. I want her to be able to play with baby B for many, many more years
  • So BabyKitten slept again thru the night, but bed time was rough. Eventually I just put her in her crib and let her be. She wasn't crying, so she essentially put herself to bed.
Idk if she's weening off bottles, because she tried to offer me a toy for her bottle last night when she saw me coming with it lol Maybe she just wasn't in the mood? Maybe this is the beginning of her self weening?

Otherwise not a whole lot. I was texting M on my bus ride home because this old lady was being such a bitch!
She gets on with a walker and no one moved because there was a seat. She sits but starts bitching about this young teen {I would guess 14/15?} who was sitting near the front. Like legit muttering about he should have moved, etc etc.
Kid was not in the way. He was polite. There was a seat. He wasn't even in the first seat! The dude beside him could have moved. Also, who knows if maybe he had a reason for sitting there - can't stand well, sick, scared, etc.
Anyways so I'm texting Matt because this lady is just pissing me off. Luckily the kid couldn't hear, or else I'm sure he would have been upset or uncomfortable.

The lady beside the old lady and I kept eyeing each other when we'd hear her rude remarks.

    When I got off, I saw she was getting off. I legit got off at a different door because this was also the type of lady who would run over your toes and claim it's your fault because she should be off first {even if you're standing and can't really move}
  • @ei34 - I hope everyone at your house can get a nap today or at least get to bed early tonight!
@6fsn - I'm sorry your Mom is not doing well.  It's hard to watch a parent age but this seems like it might be something else going on given her symptoms.  I hope it's figured out soon.

Busy day at work and then home for laundry and cleaning the kitchen.  We are T minus 2 weeks until our trip and my H insists he has lots of time to find a new pair of shoes.  Dude, I'm not going shopping the night before, get it done now!

We have an Indian wedding this weekend and will go to events Friday night, Saturday night and Sunday morning and evening.  Our anniversary is on Labor Day and we're going to do a dinner out.

  • @MyNameIsNot I can't see the puppy picture and that makes me sad.

SSDD.  I'm so glad we're coming into a 3 day weekend.  The grind is getting to me right now, but I really need to get PTO banked at this point.  I'm trying really hard not to miss any days unexpectedly until after the first of the new year.  I struggled last fall with depression and was missing a lot of days and broke my PTO bank, basically.

    Nothing much more going on.

@short+sassy  what are security deposit dispensation letters?
It's basically just a letter to a previous tenant accounting for what happened to their security deposit (SD).  I actually don't write them if I return someone's SD in full and in person.

However, if I deduct something or I'm not returning any of it, I need to send a letter within 30 days of their move-out to outline what was subtracted from their SD and what is being returned.  Or a letter with an invoice that outlines what happened to their SD and how much MORE money they still owe me because their deadbeat a$$holes.  Not that I ever expect to collect a dime, but it puts them on notice there is an outstanding debt and I then have a few options to escalate the matter, if I chose to.

  • @mrsconn23 can you post any? I'm dying to see <3
  • S+S did you ask any of the former duplex tenants to pay more?
  • ei34 - That is a tough way to wake up.  Hope the day gets better for you.

6 - In understand all your feelings about your mom.  Went through it with my mom during the cancer and her recent dislocated elbow.  But I hope that your mom can continue to recover and become strong again, like my mom is doing.

MNIN - I can't see the puppers either!  Hopefully it will work at home later, so I can see them!  My FB feed has been amazing since yesterday with all the pupper pics!

We have DDs 2 1/2 year well visit tonight.  Afterwards we will stop for pizza slices for dinner.  Yesterday DD and I had a great evening.  Once we got home, we took the dogs outside.  DD stopped playing to tell me that she had to go potty!  Woohoo!  Inside we went and afterwards, had a quick dinner of leftover pulled pork.  Then we went to Target and BJs.  By the time we got home H was back from karate.

This morning, I started to do a final sanding on the half bath.  H is fed up with it and is leaving it up to me now!  So I sanded it down and added a bit more mud in one area.  I hoping it dries nice and doesn't crack.  After another sanding, I think I might be ready to start painting!

Congrats @MyNameIsNot and way to go last night babykitty @MissKittyDanger it's the shittiest time of year @climbingwife sorry to hear about your mother @6fsn it sounds so draining
@ILoveBeachMusic no matter what time it's annoying randomly waking up before normal time! Yes my kids are early birds :| my son is a rooster he is UP and ready at 5-5:10.  My daughters this summer for the first time slipped into a summer sleep schedule, they slept until 7-7:15 most mornings which was cool.  School starts next week so I have been trying to ease them into school-year morning routine (we leave the house at 6:45ish so I can drop them at early morning dropoff and be at work by 7:15).  We just did a couple hours at the playground so I am angling for either a brief nap or for them to be lights out by 7pm lol

  • Sorry - still cannot see.  Just getting a page to log into gmail.

  • That's all I'm getting too @MNNEBride! Sorry about your mom @6fsn. Hope the docs can figure out what is going on with her.

S+S did you ask any of the former duplex tenants to pay more?
More than you asked for, lol.  But here is the full horror stories.

Absolutely not.  For the month of July, they only needed to pay their insanely low $500/month in rent.  but I did give the three tenants a Notice to Vacate (on June 25th), by the end of July.  I even gave them the true reason (though there were others) that I would be rehabbing the units and could not have people living there during construction.  I even added some verbiage that if they moved sooner than July 31st and had paid July's rent in full, that I would also return their pro-rated portion upon move-out and return their security deposit (if warranted) within a few days.  I know it sucks to be told you need to move...even though these units were so awful and slumlord-rific...so I was really trying to make the transition as easy for them as possible.

I also included a separate introductory letter with a variety of pertinent info.  That the property had been sold on June 24th to "short+sassy's" LLC with my contact info, their security deposits had been turned over to me but could not be used for last month's rent, how to pay July's rent, etc., and to let me know if they had any questions.  Plus a move-out checklist that is much shorter than my usual one.  It was basically verbiage that as long as they didn't cause additional damage from when I'd been there for the inspections, had no outstanding rent, took all their belongings/furniture with them, and didn't leave trash, that would help ensure they'd receive their security deposit back.

Two of them didn't pay their July rent and I had to take them to eviction court.  Both of those people left all kinds of stuff and a bunch of furniture in the units.  Plus the places were filthy.  One of them, I'd been kind enough to let her use one of my portable a/c units to supplement her HVAC...which was working, but not efficiently.  I'm sure it hadn't been for years.  And my kindness was repaid by her stealing it.

The third tenant had a weird due date and their rent was actually due on July 20th.  I wasn't as worried about them paying their 10 days of rent because we could see they were in the process of moving out.  Though they did overstay by a few days.  At least I didn't have to pay $200 to evict them.  But they actually left their place in the worst shape of all!  Also left a bunch of stuff behind.  And it was stomach-churning filth!  Not just dirty.  I've never seen anything like it.  The whole front yard had trash all over it, though it always had.  The interior had a few random dirty diapers in it.  And one room where apparently the baby was changed most often because it had a pile of old, dirty diapers in it.  There was old, rotting food and food containers in a few spots.  With maggots and everything (shudder).  I just don't understand how people can live like that, much less let their CHILDREN live like that.

EW.   I'll admit we have clutter but I cannot understand living with filth like that.

What's happened to your A/C @short+sassy?  Any updates on getting that back?
  • MNIN - I can see the puppers - he is so cute!!!!

MrsConn - Love the family pics!

NB2 - I'm sorry for your loss.  I hope your egg retrieval goes smoothly!

S+S - That is horrifying for that last unit!  That is beyond disgusting and I feel very sad for those kids.
  • I’m so sorry @NBSquared2017. Good vibes for tomorrow!

@short+sassy I’d probably report to CPS if it’s that bad.

    @MyNameIsNot ah, so cute!

    @mrsconn23 great family photos!

I also woke up today with a horrible dream. I can’t with these crazy dreams. I didn’t even take zzquil last night.

Today I’m working on the house, doing laundry, and hitting the gym. At some point in the next week or two I have to caulk the sinks, and while it’s an easy job it just seems so exhausting to do. I don’t know why I’m so reluctant. It has to be done. Other than that, SSDD.
