Worn out on Wednesday

Re: Worn out on Wednesday

  • I'm tired. I was on PTO yesterday for a girl's day with my mom. Unfortunately I ended up with a migraine. Started as a dull headache and intensified as the day went on. I took my meds driving home and was feeling awful. Got home and had to do an emergency project for a client and then laid down for a while. I even had to stay in the bedroom when baby B came home because I just couldn't do it and I knew if I was out there with him he'd be all over me. I did come out for about 30 min of cuddles before bedtime.

He moved up to the 3 year old class at daycare. First 2 days of drop off went great, today was horrible and made me want to cry with how sad he was.
  • Ugh.

Chiquito started coughing at 2 AM and would not stop.   I gave him some Zarbee's and by 3 I think he stopped coughing but that was a good hour of sleep lost.

The kids have a snow day today.  It's certainly pretty and I'm really thankful I WFH and have the ability for this to not affect my schedule.    I feel like this is the year of "if it's snowing then school is cancelled" which is IMO a piss poor way of planning for winter in New England WHICH IS NOT ACTUALLY HERE YET.
  • Yeah if they have to cancel all days when it snows.... when will they ever get to go to school?

Last night I used my building’s gym class/. Zumba.  Not my fave of classes but the timing was good.  Teacher was a but eccentric but I probably will go back if I end up signing.  Also - mirrors as walls - so I spent 45 minutes watching myself dance.  I’m going to have to look into longer pants.... I don’t have a full length mirror at home so I don’t notice these things

  • I keep thinking it's Thursday, so that's an accurate representation of how my day is going.

We got maybe 2" of snow and the schools were delayed. Good for me, because that's less people on the road when I leave. But really?? The roads were fine and only wet!

SSDD here. I'm doing intermittent fasting this week to see how it goes. So far, so good.

I’m on plenty of diet boards online and people swear by IF.  I don’t have the willpower to do it but I wanna.

Yes yes yes @levioosa this IT patch is nuts. N-U-T-S

Glad your getting back to normal @VarunaTT, when I can’t lift after surgeries I 100% use that to my advantage “can you_____? I medically cant”. :)

I tried an IF diet years ago.  Paid for an e-book and everything.  Of course, the sales page that talks about, already answers those objections with "if you prep for it right, you'll be surprised how little hunger you'll feel"..."the more you IF, the less hungry you'll be during fasting"...blah, blah, blah.

I did everything he said to a "T".  I don't as much care that I felt hungry.  I could hang with that if I was seeing results.  But it wasn't just hunger.  I felt SICK.  And lightheaded.  Not related to my blood sugar levels.  I didn't need anymore screaming from my body that what I was doing was extremely unhealthy and I needed to stop it.

I'm not saying that's necessarily true for all IF diets.  And I'm sure how people's bodies react can be very different from person to person.

I think it was different from what I've been hearing for the latest round of IF.  Where it's 12 hours on and 12 hours off.  The one I did was more like 24 hours on and 24 hours off.  Though during the "off" 24 hours, you could (and should) drink plenty of water and I think there was a tiny amount of specific food/portion size that needed to be eaten at specific times.  Something like that.

  • Oh damn, I'm not doing anything as intense as that. I'm just doing 10 hours on, and 14 hours off, which I read is the most effective way to do it. I can't go 24 hours. I would most likely pass out. I'm mostly his a plateau so I'm trying to change things up.
  • I don't know if it's PMS, the frigid gray days here, the state of the world or all of the above but my anxiety and depression are in HIGH gear this week. I'm here but I'm absolutely the epitome of "high functioning depressed/anxious" for the past week.

I've also, mostly due to schedule issues (but truthfully some lack of motivation) haven't worked out but once in the past week, whereas I was doing 5 days a week of 50 minutes walking on treadmill/stairmaster for the entirety of November and felt amazing. I'm guessing that is playing a significant factor here so I'm spending my lunch on the treadmill today to try and get back in the groove because I cannot go through another winter feeling like this again.

    Blah :(

When I've done IF in the past, and my coworkers who are doing it now, we do the 8 on, 16 off. We start at noon and eat until 8 pm. That was perfect for me because I was never huge on breakfast anyway, and would run/workout in the evenings so I wasn't trying to do it on an empty stomach like I would be if I worked out in the morning. I saw results with doing the 16/8.
  • Varuna - Glad you are healing well and feeling even better!  And that the person from the center is leaving!

Moira - I hope the exercise can help with your anxiety and depression!  Its a good thing you were able to recognize that!

I had yoga last night after work.  After eating a quick dinner, I got to put DD to bed.  Then H and I worked to fix the tree that had fallen down over night.  It looks beat up, but we were able to fix it as best we could.  I also discovered that one of the spikes that was supposed to hold the tree in place had broke off in the new tree stand I had bought.  Its definitely getting returned now!

Tonight is our work holiday party.  It's held at a local Country Club and has some yummy food and free booze!  My favorite!

Assuming DD is good today at daycare, the three of us will go into Philly tomorrow to see the different light displays.  I need to try and figure out times of everything, so that we can do it most efficiently!  And since H is able to come, we will eat our way through Reading Terminal Market - yum!

I'm somewhat intrigued by this. I have a friend who is doing it hardcore (like 2 days of fasting per week, sometimes back to back), and she's lost a lot of weight, says she feels great but I know that I have A. no interest in not eating for full days, multiple times per week, and B. would be a raging bitch and no one wants that.

I feel like I could eat from 12pm-8pm though without too much trouble. Are there restrictions on what you can/should eat in those timeframes or is it just eat what and how you typically would? How often do you do that (8 on/16 off)? Is it every day or just a few days a week? Did you find that you felt good doing it and saw lasting results (not just weight loss, but energy levels and such)?

I could do that only with some e.coli infested salad on the 24 hrs on.

No restrictions on what you can/cannot eat. You just have to be sure that you're only eating within the 8 hour time frame. I would do it every day, even on the weekends. I felt great while I was doing it - this includes training for a marathon while I was also intermittent fasting. I've heard of people doing the 14/10 like @cl@climbingwife is considering, as well as 5/2 (you eat whatever you want for 5 days of the week and for the other 2, you keep it to 600 calories total for the day), but the 24 on/24 off would be way too intense for me.
  • Very interesting. Theoretically I'm *almost* doing this now considering I drink my breakfast smoothie right around 9:30am and eat dinner around 6:30pm (assuming I don't snack at night, which has definitely crept back in, see: anxiety and depression). I would just need to tighten it up a bit from 11am-7pm which I don't think would be too difficult. I'd probably even be able to carry that through on weekends as well, considering I normally eat between 11am-7pm on weekends anyway (save for snacking). This also still allows for my daily lunch break workouts and plenty of time for food around them so those wouldn't be affected.

Maybe I'll give this a shot. Anything to feel better and not have my seasonal depression and regular depression battling it out to see who wins each day!

  • BabyKitten went to bed really well and I was so excited because I was tired and went to bed about 45mins later.
Unfortunately she got up about 12:30am - idk what caused it - but it took FOR FUCKING EVER to get her back down {ie; until 2am} so this morning I was tired.

I can't believe I'm looking at nursery school for when she's 3 already! 2021 my mum is planning on dropping down to part time and agreed to watch BabyKitten on her off days, so we're looking at potentially doing nursery school. It's still in discussions, so we'll see. We may do 3 days at current daycare, and 2 days at my mum's if we can't find a way to work it out.

Things are starting to wind down before holidays. M and I are arguing about an xmas tree. I really don't want one {idgaf about xmas stuff to be fair} but M wants to for BabyKitten. She apparently doesn't bother with it at daycare ... so idk.

In other news, I'm house hunting because why not? Here's one out of our price range but I like the pantry, basement with office attached and yard

the people I know that are doing the longer fasts are doing it in conjunction with keto so their bodies are fat adapted and in theory not as hungry between meals like those eating the standard diet. I know when I'm in ketosis from strict keto eating I am not as hungry and feel full from eating vs when I'm eating higher carbs and junkier stuff
  • Whoever said nausea & exhaustion starts around 6 weeks was super on point because the last few days. I feel like garbage and just want to sleep. Nothing sounds appealing to eat. So I’m cranky because I love food.

Also my normally 25 minute commute took 1 hour 20 minutes this morning because yay snow. And it’s supposed to be worse during the evening commute.

What worked for me, nausea-wise, was sucking on crystallized ginger.  Just a small piece worked wonders!  It is a heavy strong ginger flavor, so that if you aren't a ginger person, these are not for you.  If it lost its flavor, I would do some light bites on it to release more ginger.  I kept a small container in my purse, so it was on me at all times!  I also never ate it, when it was done or not needed anymore, I threw it out.

Other tips I've heard is having saltines by your bed and eating one as soon as you wake up, before even getting out of bed.

I also heard that eating small meals throughout the day helped.  I know for me, if my stomach was empty, I was reaching for the ginger!  The diet my nutritionist had me on, had me eating 6 times per day, so I typically did have food in my tummy at all times.

I did some of this.   I also used to get water when I woke up pre pregnancy and switched to Gatorade.   I basically felt hungover for about 6 weeks.

What I didn't do but would consider doing now is adding some higher protein snacks for the afternoon.

Also, I started to get killer leg cramps at about month six that would hit in the middle of my sleep.   Those SUUUUCKED.   I added a daily banana due to rumored low potassium in my system and that seemed to help.
  • @charlotte989875 Yup, my morning sickness started exactly at 6 weeks (right in the middle of our vacation). While I was lucky that it never got super bad, I did find that things like saltines by the bed, ginger ale and small meals helped. These drops were also recommending (Tummydrops) - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0776NH3JP/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_image_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

They worked like a charm and I'd just keep a handful in my purse, my desk at work and on my nightstand.

Same @charlotte989875 - mild snacks like string cheese, plain crackers, plain popcorn, bananas etc helped a lot to keep the bad nausea at bay.  Basically eating like a toddler.  A friend sent me these: https://www.walgreens.com/store/c/preggie-pops-morning-sickness-relief/ID=prod3134001-product and it definitely helped at work when a bad nausea wave hit.  I basically was eating non stop all day but never a real meal.

Mine stopped pretty abruptly at week 12-13 so I hope this phase passes quickly!

ETA: totally agree with Banana about GATORADE - it was about the only thing that helped calm my stomach and make me feel more normal.  It really did feel a little like being hungover (hungry but nothing sounds good, water make you want to puke....) so Gatorade was a lifesaver.
  • Ugh sorry @charlotte989875 Gatorade, ginger ale and saltines helped me a bit
    Feel better soon @kvruns

We got 3" but thankfully schools stayed open and normal start time.  I'm in a different SD than my kids, so my fantasy is that one day this winter they'll have school but I'll have a snow day.  Lol.

Mine hit at 5 weeks, but if you like mint - always have gum or mints with you. Found that helped me.
Also if it feels like indigestion style, have some dairy product. It helped settle the acids in my stomach
  • Thank you all, I’m writing down all of these suggestions! It seems worse in the evening but also a bit in the afternoon when I’m at work, which is really unfortunate.
  • DD sucked on ginger drops ( kind of like cough drops). That seemed to help with her nausea. The tired part just sucks and there is nothing to do about it.
  • @charlotte989875 do you find it's ever associated with food {before or after you eat}
If it's after, my dr suggested spreading out what you're eating. Instead of eating all at once, to slow it down and have some now, eat more in 5-10mins, etc
