FRIDAY

Good morning all! It's pouring rain here and I had a crappy morning with DS so I'm ready to coast through the day.

If you like clearance shopping, many Walmart stores are now 90% off on clearance (the rest should switch tomorrow) if you need some retail therapy.

Re: FRIDAY

  • @climbingwife are you going on a ski trip?
  • Happy Friday!  Thanks for that tip @kvruns, I’m actually heading there after work for some stuff.

i’m just hunkering down for a storm we’re supposedly getting tomorrow.  Fun times.

  • Blerg!  I've been having problems with my Fitbit and I'm annoyed!  I unpaired it yesterday to my phone because it wasn't updating and now I can't get it to syn again!  Its not even a year old, so if its going - I will be pissed!  I think its the app though, it seems like it just updated, so I'm sure their update is the cause.  Hopefully, it will get updated again soon!

We are supposed to get record highs this weekend!  I will be opening the windows and flushing in fresh air this weekend!  We will also take down the outside Christmas decorations.  I also got some lights for Valentine's Day and St. Patty's Day, I know DD will love them!  So I will put the heart lights out tomorrow too.

We are supposed to have our faulty gas meter replaced today.  They already cancelled on us once, so really hoping they can fit us in today!  I'm not looking forward to a second gigantic bill from them to deal with!  H is home for it since they couldn't even get us timeframe for today, just we will be there on the 10th...
  • @kvruns, it's pouring rain here also.  And the forecast says it will be thunderstorms/strong storms today and tomorrow.  I even received a text message this morning from my energy utility that there will be high winds tonight and power outages are possible.  Thanks for the tip about Walmart!  I just so happen to be going there later anyway.

@climbingwife, have fun next week!  I assume this is a ski trip?  Snowing/skiing in VT sounds heavenly!  I wish I could take more "winter wonderland" vacations.  But my H is whiny about it because he is a big baby when it comes to cold temperatures.

But this is what is funny about that.  Lake Tahoe has charmed him, so he likes going there even in the winter time.  However, that's pretty far for us to go, so we only make it out there every few years.  Colorado is much closer but, when I suggest a vacation there, he makes a face and says "it's too cold" and has no interest in going.  I point out that, generally speaking, they have very similar weather/temps in the winter time.  In fact, Denver is ranked as one of the sunniest cities in the country.

But he says, "I like Lake Tahoe.  I don't like CO."  Not that he's ever been on vacation there.  Though I think he's driven through it a couple times in his life.  He can't even give me a reason why he doesn't like CO.  He just doesn't.  Because it's cold there, lmao.  I think he has such an ingrained stereotype in his head that CO=cold, that he can't get over the negative feeling, even though he understands the logic of what I am saying.  Oh well!

I was reading an article about that earlier this week.  Enjoy the unexpected nice weather!

My winter here in NOLA has been surprisingly very nice.  There have been a few bone-chilling days here and there where temps dropped below freezing for awhile.  Another larger handful of days where it was too chilly.  But, overall, we've had temps in the mid 60s-low 70s.  Sometimes even warmer than that.  Most days, we don't even have to turn on the heater.  My energy/gas bills have been running about half of what they usually are in the winter.

I have been LOVING it!  Though only when I try not to think about the long-term foreboding that this is probably yet another ominous sign of the rampant global warming our world is facing.  And that there is a decent chance New Orleans will become the next Lost City of Atlantis in my lifetime.  And we're not even in the top 20 of global coastal cities that are expected to be underwater over the next 30ish-100 years.

On that note, Indonesia has announced they are changing their capital city from Jakarta to a yet-to-be-built city in Kalimantan.  In large part for this very reason.  Jakarta is already sinking.  Though the other reason is Jakarta is severely overcrowded.  Moving the capital will also move some of the population.  Roughly 10% of it.  Obviously not the complete answer to Jakarta's population problem.  But it will certainly help.

  • Also raining cats and dogs here. The dog was pissed this morning, and covered in mud.

But, I’m seeing Trevor Noah tonight with some work friends! I’m so excited. Should be a super good time. Which is exactly what I need after working a million hours this week. Then we have nothing planned for the weekend and I can’t wait for all the naps I’m going to take!
  • TGIF here.  Yay for almost being done with the first five day week in awhile!

Probably hanging at home tonight.  Tomorrow we are going up to see my Sister-in-law at her rehab hospital.  I don't think the other SILs are going along this time.  We'll go early to get home early since the Vikes have a play off game late afternoon.    Sunday is church, errands, home stuff and then the Packer game.

I also want to try another recipe for the Instant Pot I got for Christmas.  So far I've done hard boiled eggs and a roast with potatoes, carrots and onions.  Both have been very good.  DH wants soup so that's probably up next.

Had my review at work this week and it went well.  I love my supervisor and how she's always looking for ways I can advance!  On the downside, we don't get merit raises here so a good review doesn't mean more money.

So fun!  I love the Daily Show.  I liked Jon Stewart a little better than I like Trevor Noah, but I really like Trevor Noah also.

I'm looking forward to your update about his show, next week.  He's coming to NOLA soon, I think in March, and I've been thinking about getting tickets.

Jon Stewart was the OG. Have you heard Trevor Noah’s book? It’s so good!
  • Cupcait - Great news about baby's growth!  Keep it up baby!
  • that's great news @cupcait927
  • Great news @cupcait927!

@OliveOilsMom try resetting the Fitbit. FSIL has had to reset hers twice when it stopped syncing to her phone. It’s so funny how attached we get to our activity watches. I forgot to wear my watch to bed the other night and was salty I didn’t know how much sleep I got.

TGIF here. Work blew up yesterday. I think you guys remember the co-worker I had that was being subordinate, and that my manager spoke to her and things markedly improved. Well last night I got a call, while at home, from the director who spent an hour yelling at me about how I didn’t tell her about the issue, and about how I’m going to lose my job unless I fix the issue. She acknowledged that this coworker has been an issue before. But that if my manager and I couldn’t fix it she would fire all three of us. I am so frustrated. And it was completely inappropriate to call me at home while I am off the clock to essentially try and give me a verbal warning. Which it was more of a threat than anything. And it’s frustrating that instead of having a meeting with the three of us, she instead took gossip from the other staff members and then called to berate us over the phone. She also broke about three state laws, so I documented everything and am holding onto it just in case.

I wish I wasn’t still sick because man, I could use a fucking drink tonight.

  • @levioosa, can you document what has occurred with any other personnel?

I have a good friend who had to do something like that with her former boss.   She was basically told by her superior to do things that were completely against protocol for a psychological treatment (like what do you do when a university student is calling you in the middle of the night for psychological assistance due to suicidal tendencies but the person is violent and under the influence?).   The instructions given would have put the lives of the staff in jeopardy and she was further deterimental to the process in staff meetings.   I don't know what came of it but she actually had this person formally documented.

Good luck - sounds like a massive shit show.

    Yes, we're going skiing!
  • @levioosa that is such bullshit that you were called at home! I'd be livid.
  • @levioosa omg I'd be livid. None of that interaction was okay. Definitely a good call on your part to document everything and hold on it.
  • @banana468 I’m going to hold out for now because I think she probably got some shit from high ups and took it out on us instead. This isn’t the first time she’s called me after hours and at home. I’ve been documenting everything with times called, length of conversation, and topics discussed.

  • @levioosa, wow, WOW!  That sounds more like something that was a judgment call on your part as opposed to something so "egregiously against protocol" that it puts your job in danger.  And an hour-long ranting fest...on your day off, no less...is outrageous, whatever the circumstances.

I mean, obviously I don't work in anything like your job or even the medical industry.  But I have held management and other positions and the normal course of action is usually exactly what you did.  Try to solve the problem with the employee directly and/or speak to your own supervisor.  Go up the chain to the next level if it is still not resolved, etc.

Not to mention, if this employee has repeatedly been an issue with a variety of people.  Then...ummm...sounds like the solution is to fire that problem employee.  Instead of her along with the next two levels of management above her because they couldn't "manage" her.

I am so sorry your new job has winded up having a couple very problem coworkers to have to deal with.  Especially with one of them being the director.  I really hope things get smoothed over and improve.

  • @Levioosa - I have the Fitbit Flex 2, so the very small one.  I don't see any reset buttons!  But I will see if I can figure that out and do it!  Thanks for the tip!

I also think its total bullshit about your director calling you and reprimanding you over the phone!  Even if that is what needed to happen, you need to do that stuff in the office in a formal setting!  Keep documenting everything!  I can't believe all the shit you've had to deal with for a job you just started!
  • Omg that's insane @levioosa!  Yay for the growth @cupcait927 Enjoy the slopes @climbingwife!

TGIF everyone.  Bringing the kids to Disney on Ice tomorrow.  Expecting it to be a low key weekend otherwise.

Didn’t you like, just, start working there? That’s insane.
  • Thanks everyone. It definitely threw me for a loop because up to this point the feedback from other coworkers and management has been mostly positive. It blows my mind to think that known problem employees would be put on the two new people. And change takes time and work on both sides. Nothing is instantaneous.

  • Glad to hear you got home before all the ice comes, @ILoveBeachMusic.  I will hands down take 6-9 inches of snow over the potential of half an inch of ice!  We had some tentative plans with the grands tomorrow, but luckily did not buy tickets.  I have no intention of driving on icy roads tomorrow.
A week with the boys sounds like a lot of fun and exhaustion.  My lower back froze on me this morning on the way to school.  I looked so melodramatic walking slow and slightly hunched all day at school.  There was no point going home, though, as nothing really changes the situation.  I think it stems from playing in the little guys "fort" for over an hour yesterday after school.  I spent the majority of that time either squished under blankets tossed over couches, or crawling on hands and knees.  It doesn't bother me at the time I'm doing it, but apparently takes it toll over night!  The aging struggle is real!
@ei34, we took the grands to Dream Big this past fall.  It was a great show!
  • yikes @levioosa that stinks. And didn't you just start there not that long ago? Too much drama for the beginning for sure.

@ILoveBeachMusic I'm glad you had fun and beat the bad weather back.

@mobkaz my dad has the same problem when he plays with DS. He loves to get down on the floor, lift him up etc and then hurts afterwords for a while.
