Thursday! Prudie Day!

Still home sick. Can’t kick this cold & I’m taking PTO to rest. I’ve got a big day of room temperature Gatorade, Netflix, and naps ahead of me.

But at least the dog & cat are happy that I’m here. They’re actually getting along (mainly because they both want to snuggle at the same time).

Re: Thursday! Prudie Day!

  • That cold kicked my ass last week! Hope you're feeling better soon!

    I already have vacation brain.

H has been installing our new built-in for the living room, and I am in love with it. Also in love with the fact that we can now completely cover up the in-wall monster AC unit in there too. Praise the lord.

SSDD. Annoyed at work stuff. I have PMS. Blah blah.
  • Feel better @charlotte989875

Will you still be able to access the AC unit @climbingwife
  • I'm working on kicking a new cold which seems to be par for the course.  I am trying to fluid-fill myself in the hopes that this one goes fast.

Tonight DH and I have a local fundraiser to attend and it benefits a kid in Chiquito's class with cancer.   My heart breaks for that situation and I'm glad that we can try to do something when there's only so much that you can do to help.

Our state had a hearing that started yesterday on a bill that removes medical exemptions for vaccinations for kids to attend school.   I have some seriously mixed feelings about it - not because I'm anti-vaccine but because I am not thrilled with how my state legislature proposes or writes bills and want any legislation to be narrow in scope.   RI is currently being challenged for their requirement for children to be vaccinated against HPV which is NOT the public health issue that we have with measles or chicken pox.   I also have a problem with people who falsely use religious exemptions (and think that if we're of the same faith my faith also is against you LYING to use it as a reason not to vaccinate your kids!) and see so many issues with not vaccinating against diseases that ARE a public health issue.

Anyway, that's the can of worms I opened.   It's my Thursday/Wednesday.
  • I think as long as healthcare remains the clusterfuck it is, a vaccine that is proven to prevent certain types of cancer that are common and expensive later in life even with health insurance is a health issue.  It's not a transmission fear as much as measles/chicken pox, but it's still a public health issue.

Also, that sucks.  I do find it terrible that states are having to remove religiously based exemptions to the vaccinations, but these parents out here falling for this fear mongering are putting the rest of us in danger.  I keep getting shocked b/c it's not like we've had some of these diseases under control for very long.  My grandmother can remember having school closed b/c of measles outbreaks/fear of outbreak.  She also had measles and has a scar on her head from a craniotomy to relieve the pressure from brain swelling.  My PCP pointed out one time that in that time frame, my grandmother was lucky to even have access to medical care that knew a cranitomy was needed and could perform it.  This is not something our civilization should have to fear again.

Why isn't it Friday already?  I don't feel like working today.  We did finally get our raises and I'm pleased with mine.  Between the raise, the retro pay, and my unexpected bonus, I've got a fairly nice check coming.  I was going to put a nice payment on my one remaining credit card, but I think I'm going to keep just a bit to do a massage and a float.  My shoulders are hovering somewhere around my ears lately.

Yup. We'll just be removing the cabinet doors when in use. And that thing is amazing - it cools the entire main floor. So, while it's ugly, I love it in the summer.
  • @banana468 I think I heard on the news this morning IL is working on similar legislature and I wasn't paying too much attention but heard HPV as well and thought it seemed like an odd requirement to allow someone in school. I'm all for HPV vaccines but doesn't feel quite the same as some of the other required ones
  • @mrsconn23 I'm sorry about your mom. Sending you all the good vibes.
  • @VarunaTT you make a valid point.   My one issue with the Gardasil vaccine is that they're proposing giving it to younger girls.   Chiquita just turned 9 and DH's insurance company (we have separate insurance because they want to charge me penalty $$ for spousal coverage) sent a pamphlet from the pharmaceutical company to him as "parents of Chiquita" to vaccinate our 9 yo against it.   And for that specific vaccine I have concerns over the ages recommended yet I understand that you give it before exposure and children are sexually active earlier and earlier.   That said, I'll talk to our pedi when we are at her next physical and I will ask what they recommend.   I'm not the one who went to medical school.

And Chiquito's classmate is a good example of someone who is immunocompromised who cannot receive additional vaccines now and who if exposed to diseases can die.  So I'm not one to want to indulge in the glib excuses given by others who cannot back up their statements with science.

@mrsconn23 I'm so sorry and I hope your mom's health improves - sending hugs your way.
  • sorry to hear about your mom @mrsconn23 I hope they can figure something out

This is where I lie a bit.   I appreciate @VarunaTT 's viewpoint but still felt that the legislation is going to go further if they remove the HPV vaccine and keep it to those that can be spread through less intimate contact (or zero contact as in the case of measles).
  • So BabyKitten has eczema - had it since birth - but it's getting worse. I'm sure a good chunk is weather related because it seems to be worse in the winter.
We do the Aveeno Baby Oatmeal baths once a week - usually first bath after swimming - and we have hydrocortisone and Aveeno Baby Eczema cream, but I think we need to look for a better cream.
This weekend M and I are doing some errands, and one is to Buy Buy Baby {we're getting a Hatch Baby Rest - white noise should help BabyKitten. Highly recommend white noise} They seem to have a lot of options for skincare vs all the places I've seen, so I'm hoping for something.

That being said, Saturday BabyKitten is going to my mum's for the night. We're doing her closet, getting sushi and doing errands.
Sunday is suppose to be really nice weather, so M wants to go to the range. I'm gonna talk to my mum and maybe head over to her place and get M to meet me later.
  • @MissKittyDanger do you use Aquafor?  I've found with Chiquito when he had it that using that on top of the eczema cream created a decent barrier for the areas of greatest aggrivation (usually chubby kiddo thighs).
  • @banana468 I've been suggested this also. It's on the list of what we're looking for. It's kind of a bitch to find.
Last night BabyKitten woke up and was just scratching her torso. Not eczema spotted, just dry skin, but that's how her ankle started. Itching to the point of irritation.

Are you not able to find Aquaphor online?

Really?  In the US it's pretty popular.   I find that I need something like that for my fingers but it is SUPER greasy so it's best worn at night for my hands.    Good luck!

I'm sure I'll be able to find it. Right now the Hatch Baby is at ONE damn store in the entire city.
Greasy is good :) Tonight we plan on trying coconut oil over lotion to help barrier.

Probably amazon, but since I have to go to a certain store {Buy Buy Baby} I know they have a bunch of stuff, so I'm pretty confident they'll sell it. I have a few places that aren't too far {just not super convenient} I'm gonna check if no luck.
  • This week is flying. We started a walking challenge at work – you can form a team of your peers and your steps are averaged and you can hit milestones.

The backdrop is a trip across the U.S. visiting ten ballparks.  The steps you take throughout the day will moves the team along the route and upon arrival at each ballpark you will receive a milestone email highlighting the historic significance of the park.

It's a pretty fun challenge so far, but everyone is struggling because the warehouse teams are in the top 10 – there is no way those who sit at a desk can be those running around the warehouse. It’s a great way to get active!

Thinking about dinner tonight – I think we are going to try a Korean dish tonight: https://www.lecremedelacrumb.com/spicy-korean-beef-noodles/

@missJeanLouise I've never heard of that. Did she say what essential oils? It's hard to say what would work though, we had to get permission from the dr for the hydrocortisone because BabyKitten is under 2

How old were the kiddos there? Always fun to watch kids interact with each other - even if it's indirectly. BabyKitten is learning to play with others because of daycare. Downside is she does not understand barriers and I full on watched her sit on the 3yr old's lap because she wanted to sit with her. lmao!
  • @MissKittyDanger I think she just used them to cover the smell of the vinegar but probably some tea tree, maybe some sandlewood or lavender, nothing too weird. The kids are all about 6months apart, DS being in the middle. The 11month old just started really crawling so now she is a lot more fun to play with, from his perspective. Today they were chasing each other around my house, it was too cute.
  • Feel better @charlotte989875 and *hugs* @mrsconn23
@banana468 religious exemptions were banned by me last year and three kids had to leave my twins' nursery class.  Yikes.
@MissKittyDanger I ditto aquaphor and also recommend Eucerin...although none of us have dealt with excema, just dry skin, but I've still had more luck with those than an aveeno oatmeal bath. I do love aveeno as their daily post-bath massage lotion but for serious skin issues I like Aquaphor and Eucerin..good luck  <3

Kids and I were planning on spending the morning at the beach but it's a bit colder tyan it was supposed to be (high 20s) so we only lasted a couple of hours.  We're all off-season ocean people (well I guess I turned them into that lol...summer is my least favorite season to be at the beach) so with the extra time we came home and baked a crumb cake.  Now having some across the board screen time.
  • MrsConn - Continued prayers for your mom.  Hugs for you!

MKD - I agree with the Aquafor suggestion.  Also, they sell "Baby" Aquafor, but its the same as regular Aquafor.  So don't feel you need to pay more for the Baby stuff.  Its consistency is just like Vaseline.  I use it exclusively for my lips and will rub excess across my knuckles in the winter to help with my dry skin.

NB - We did that walking challenge last year!  We never made it to Yankee stadium though!  We had a runner on our team and I thought I would be our downfall of the average.  But he stopped putting in his steps, so he drug us down! LOL!  BUT you can get a leg up on the warehouse team by entering workouts.  Some of the accepted work out were House cleaning and Shopping!  I can't recall exactly how you find that section, but I know it was not on the main page.  Maybe you had to find your groups ranking and find it that way?

I had a heart pounding and anxiety inducing incident with DD last night.  We just got home, H was at karate.  We went to the front door to pick up a package and as DD ran back into the kitchen she tripped and flew into one of the rungs of our kitchen chairs.  I quickly grabbed her, before she could even let out the first wail, to comfort her.  After a minute, I put her in the chair so I could get ice - she already had a bruise and huge lump on her forehead!  I got the ice but started to panic a bit.  I called my mom (former nurse) and she said to call the pedi.  They had no more appointments left, but the front desk left a message for the nurse.  I called H repeatedly, but he never heard his phone.  I eventually started to calm and after a bit, DD kept asking me why she needs the ice. LOL  - really kid?  Nurse called back, around the same time as H.  Nurse said it would be fine unless she gets the pukes.  She was also already acting normal again.  So it ended up being a later night for her because I was just standing around with the ice on her, I couldn't even make us dinner.  She has a red mark from were the bruise was and a bit of a bump still, so we were very lucky!  You also can't even see it because of her bangs!

Today is my Friday.  I'm trying to get one big thing done for the day, but that should be done shortly.  Tomorrow I will do the last of my food shopping for DDs birthday party on Sunday.  I will also do more cleaning around the house.  H will be coming home a little early and we will go to Delaware for the night to see Lewis Black and stay over.  My niece is staying at home with DD.  Saturday and Sunday will be final prep for the party and the party itself.
  • Completely agree with the Aquafor! I’ve used it for healing tattoos, chafing from running, and super dry skin. It’s practically magic.
  • Oh @mrsconn23, all the good thoughts for your Mom. Can you take FMLA or a LOA? Can your Dad?
  • @mrsconn23 So sad about your mom - hopefully they can figure something out that doesn't involve a surgery.  That must be so hard.

About the vaccines, just because it is one of those issues that annoys me, are they still pushing the HPV vaccine only on girls?  Or is it everyone?  The commercials we got here used to drive me nuts, because it was pushed as a women's issue, and guys weren't really getting asked to get it.  But you know, they could be carriers and pass it on ...

That being said, I feel like I have to start half of my conversations lately with "I'm not an anti-vaxxer but ..." because I won't be able to vaccinate my dog pretty much ever again.  I would love to give her vaccines, I just can't because now they might kill her.  Good times.

Good, maybe they figured things out. It just rubbed me the wrong way, like guys who don't want to get a vasectomy because preventing pregnancy is a woman's job.
