We lost power for about five hours yesterday but the wind and rain lightened up last night.  Sunny today.  Definitely going to spend as much time in our yard as our school schedules allow.

Sorry about your Disney trip @banana468 and lol about the birthday gift charge
  • We thankfully fared ok with the storms. A lot of damage in our town and the next town over - lots of trees and poles down. We never lost power, so that was good.

My boss/the owner is making me nuts. He had me and my team cancel every open order, including containers from overseas. And now, he wants me to get those container orders back...LOL. It's going to be a rough week.

I did 2 workouts this morning on the Plankk app this morning. This will now be my only option, because they have now closed EVERY single county and state park, so there's nowhere to hike. It really sucks that the ones of us that use is properly (at 5:30am when no one is there) get penalized.

is the park closure new? I hadn’t heard that for NY yet (or maybe it’s just downstate?). That really sucks. Running/walking is really the only thing keeping me sane these days.

  • It’s Tuesday, and I went into the office to get my office chair and my mouse and keyboard. I’m finally resigned to the reality we will be doing this for a while. When I went in one of the security guards said he though it would be June before we’d be back.

H is actually super busy at work, so that’s been good. I’ve been less so and that’s not great for my productivity. I do better when we have strict deadlines and concrete goals. So much is up in the air.
  • We're lucky that the state parks are open.   We haven't gone yet but if the weather holds I may take a ride down to hike a trail with Chiquita this weekend.

@short+sassy I went through something similar.   Disney closed the parks and we rebooked for August and now get free dining.   Obviously we will see how things go so we decide if we actually take that vacation depending on how they and Florida respond.   But I contacted Jet Blue at the same time and about two weeks ago their answer was "flight credits only".   I even looked up my flight insurance that I bought (and I never do but decided it was worth it because it was over $2500 in tickets for the four of us) and pandemics are an act of God (which is bullshit.   They are the act of humans but I digress) and that we wouldn't get our $$ back.

BUT, last week when I was going to take the time to cancel the flights I saw that Jet Blue cancelled them and I happened to do it at the point that they hadn't emailed me.   BINGO!  Through their chat program they agreed to refund me for the full cost of the tickets.   It makes sense.   No one is traveling and you can't fly into Florida and leave the next week.   So now we do have that $ back which is a nice relief.    Now we may drive.

I'm bummed but grateful.   I spoke to Chiquita about a month ago when the park closed and said, "You know, people study all the time when it's the best time to go to Disney but we know when the best time is right?  WHEN IT'S OPEN!"

That's so true. I was thriving when I was slammed with work but now that it has slowed down I can't motivate myself to work on stuff I know I need to do. Not to mention there are things I could do around the house but I'm avoiding those too

The state park closure is new. They had closed the county parks, but state parks like Bear Mountain/Harriman were still open. When we went Sunday, they had completely blocked off the exits to Bear Mountain from the parkway, and that's the only way in. Meanwhile we got in Saturday with no problem.

It's super frustrating because we live off a main road that's very busy with NO sidewalks. So even just trying to walk in our own neighborhood is dangerous.
  • More of the same over here. FI and I had a hard financial talk last night. It is a little funny how we thought our jobs would be a little on the safer end considering where/what they are, but right now I feel like anything could happen.

    Sorry about your trip @banana468

That sucks about all of the park closures @climbingwife. I’m waiting for it to happen around here. Literally no one is listening about the face masks in our area so I don’t even feel comfortable walking outside when there’s a ton of people out too who obviously dgaf.

  • So bylaw here is getting really strict. I'm torn between on feelings, more because even the few times we go out, it could happen to us.
Recently we walked the length of the field with BabyKitten and stopped every so often for bubble play. Half to keep her entertained.

Anyways, apparently that's a no-no now and we could get hit with a ticket. I just hope bylaw is keeping situations in mind when some people get hit with a ticket. We keep far from the path so people can still go through and not even close to the play structures, but since we're not "walking through only" we could get hit with ticket.

Also we don't stay long .... I mean, one can only entertain a toddler for so long in a field.

Anyways .... weekend was ok. We did a mini Easter hunt for BabyKitten by putting some fun crackers {mickey and minnie crackers} into reusable eggs.
I made a ham in the crockpot for yesterday. I was off but M wasn't. I'm not normally off, so it was nice.
We have BabyKitten home again this week, and I'm frustrated a.f about that. Week 3 of her home and I get fuck all done when she's here.

She needs more than just us lmao
  • @banana468, I'm sorry about the cancelled trip to Disney.  I know it's disappointing.  At least it sounds like a nice gift is in your future, lol.

I still haven't cancelled my trip, but I'm hoping to get that done today.  I'd been waiting for both Delta and Norwegian cruises to cancel it on their end in order to have more "power", lol.  Norwegian did that on April 2nd.

This was actually kind of funny.  On April 8th...almost one month before my flight...Air France/Delta sent me two auto-emails confirming my itinerary and one of the emails had my e-tickets.  I know it's all automated but still, this was me, "Really, Delta?  You think my flight to Barcelona in early May is still happening?  Oh, okay."

Then on April 12th (this Sun.)...four days after the "confirmation" e-mail...I got another one that the portions of my flight from NYC to Barcelona (and the return) were both cancelled.  Bingo.

Also interesting.  It is my understanding that this now officially entitles me to get my money back, if I want it.  But that was NOT an option they mentioned in the e-mail.  Instead, I was given instructions on how to get a "credit".  Though I'd at least have two years to use it.  Up until now, I could have cancelled it, but would have needed to use the credit by the end of the year.

I know I'm hardly the only one.  But it's already so disappointing to postpone this trip of a lifetime.  And then I have to contact multiple companies...possibly multiple times...to rebook/figure out my options.  Oh well.  At least by waiting my choices have gotten a lot better than what they were.
I hear you - it was a major blow to cancel my trip as well.  My cousin and I are both still working on getting money back from accommodations.

My thought was to start planning another trip to help with my mental state of cancelling, but I'm finding it next to impossible to do with everything still up in the air.  Are you planning to do your trip another time, short+sassy?

  • I'm both lucky and unlucky when it comes to walks where I am.  My neighbourhood has sidewalks everywhere, so walks are pretty easy to do.  But, it seems like everyone is out walking, so I've been limiting my time outside.  I took the dog out about 9 pm last night, and didn't see a soul, so it all depends on when I go.  There is also a swamp really close to my house that no one goes in because, well, it's a swamp.  But if I take my rubber boots the dog and I can get a good walk in.

  • I'm seriously on the struggle bus today. I guess all the emotions are hitting me at once, plus the pollen is unreal so I'm tired. I was watching some marketing videos/ads that my company is planning to put out in the next few weeks this morning and it made me all weepy. It's the standard thank you to the front lines, families waving through glass, people dancing on balconies that we've all seen, but somehow it just really hit me.

Not sure if it was the same set of storms or not, but we had some come through Sunday night. No damage personally, but there was a photo in yesterday's paper with a house that got picked up and dropped in the middle of the road wizard of oz style. H and I walked the neighborhood yesterday after work and saw some trees and limbs down, but no real damage close to home.

It's hard with the state parks. It's such a shame that the idiots (like people near me) are still congregating in parks or hanging out in groups on the beaches, but they have to restrict people who are smart/responsible enough to go for an isolated hike at 5 in the morning. I wish there was a better way to balance needed fresh air and exercise but stopping stupid/risky activities. Actually, I really wish you didn't have to force people to be smart; it's horrible how many people will not do the right thing unless forced.
  • Update: I spent about 30 minutes on Delta's site trying to figure out requesting my refund.  I was also on hold with their customer service for some of the time I was doing this, but never got through.

I then finally have a message pop up on their site after submitting the refund request...telling me that Air France issued my tickets, so I need to talk to them.  But is Delta even helpful enough to include a phone number or even the web address for Air France? No, they are not.  FTR, when I booked my ticket, I went to Air France's website.  Who sent me to Delta to book it.  Air France sent me the e-ticket.  But, other than that, every single communication I've received about this flight....from the day I booked it...as come from Delta, smh.  Whatever.

Air France had super scary language on their refund request page that COVID-19 wasn't within their control, so they weren't responsible for offering compensation.  But I filled out my requests anyway.  After I finished, I did more Googling and found another place on their website that said cancelled flights due to COVID-19 would be refunded.  So I'm tentatively feeling more secure, lol.

I think what they were referring to with their "no compensation" comment is that they are not responsible for additional expenses that a passenger might incur.  Like, extra nights at a hotel.  That kind of thing.

I just hope I don't have any further issues and receive my refund back before it gets too close to my departure date.  Because if I don't get it back before then, I will need to be on the phone to customer service for "who knows how long" to make sure I get it back.

I know!  I remember how much you were looking forward to your trip also.  I hope you you're able to get your money back on the accommodations.  That was messed up.

I'm actually planning to re-book my cruise today.  Just the cruise, though.  Norwegian has a special where they'll give you an extra 20% on what you've already paid for, for "extras"...though (I think) they've also given an option to get your money back.  They're doing another special to get 25% back on the value of the cruise, if you rebook it instead of requesting your money back.  But the cruise itself was a gift from Harrah's, so I'm not sure if I'm eligible for that part.

I know I can't get money back for the value of the cruise itself since I got it from Harrahs.  But that would be SWEET! if they'd give me 25% of the value for a credit with them.  I doubt it and would be shocked.  But you know I'm at least going to ask ;).

The sheriff in charge of our area said that they’re not going to ticket or stop to anyone who isn’t wearing a mask or following the orders. So pretty much people have figured they don’t need to do it if no one is going to stop them. It’s super frustrating and just another reason I’m so angry this sheriff got elected in the first place.

  • I am so unmotivated to work on anything that immediate and 100% necessary.  So I've been baking and monitoring email and hanging out with the babe.  Nothing new.

  • omg MrsConn glad you guys figured it out! Doh to DH
  • "Hey what happens when you do this??"

Today my son tried to add a screw into the entertainment center.  Talk about screwing with his dad - ugh!
  • That’s totally something H would do on one of his organizing sprees @mrsconn23
  • Haha.  I can see myself not knowing what an extender is either, @mrsconn23.  But I’m glad he figured it out before work was done.

missed flight:  air canada refunded mine for next week but so far nothing from united. Hopper is now on it and contacting them.

Does anyone work in medical billing?  Or have had this situation? I have a question.  They’re pulling all my doctor visits taken from divorce date to when I was put on my own (took about a month).  And resubmitting under my new plan.  I didn't drop my old plan till I knew for sure I was insured with the new, but I needed my mental health check up, blood work, chiro etc.  is it true they have to backdate the date and deny everything that was approved and rebill?  I didn’t go to a medical appt while on my new plan, billing the old. I just wasn’t moved over yet!

  • Its another day at home.  We had the bad rain and wind come through yesterday too.  We've got some branches down, but nothing crazy.  Other areas had some really bad damage, especially the shore areas.  Cape May and Wildwood were hit hard with microbursts and straight line winds.

Not much work today, so I've just been monitoring my emails.  Not sure how I'm going to bill this day!  Tomorrow I will start my filing, which is my least favorite task, but at least its something to do!
  • @mrsconn23 luckily it wasn't trash day!
  • @mrsconn23 luckily it wasn't trash day!
It was, but we'd already taken it to the curb.  Hee.
  • We had a good weekend.  Friday night we drove over to a church friends home to pick up masks she's been making.  She left them on her porch for pick up.  Saturday, it was beautiful outside, nearly 60 degrees and sunny.  I donned my new mask and delivered an extra to a work friend.  Then I went to the grocery store for a few things and ended up with more than expected.  Other expenses are down during this time but our grocery bill is up.  I'm sure it balances out with not eating out.  I mixed up some cookie dough to bake later this week.

Sunday we got hit with a spring snowstorm.  We received over 8" of heavy wet snow.  It was good we couldn't go anywhere  We did church from the recliners and then I made meatloaf, baked potatoes and fresh green beans. Yum.  We did a Zoom meeting with my siblings and it worked pretty well.  My mom couldn't figure it out so she was bummed.  Everyone called her later so that was good.

Yesterday I order another couple of masks for my mom and looked for disposable gloves for pick up.  Walmart had them so I ordered and it went through.  10 mins later I get an email that they cancelled my order because they were out of stock.  I look again on their webpage and it says they have 6 boxes.  DH went looking and found some at a tool place in town.  We ordered and will pick them up by curbside later this week.  I'll drop off box for mom with her masks.

Otherwise, SSDD in working from home.  I am thankful for having work and not being furloughed like others in my organization.  I'm also thankful that DH and I seem to be handling our extra time together pretty well.  So there's that.
