Not yet Friday

Happy Thursday, is everyone hanging in there?

It looks like it’s about to snow again here, but at least I got out for a run before that happened! I’m so ready for the warm weather.

How everyone doing?

Re: Not yet Friday

  • That tree will bloom next year ... I do love cherry blossoms, and hate to miss seeing them, but there are some things we can all put off another year!  You are doing the right thing, @ei34

The sky is dark and it is really cold, so I suspect flurries anytime.  I'm ready for slightly warmer weather, but I think it is just going to skip spring temperatures and go right to hot.  I just hope my plants aren't suffering too much.  My gogi berry is already getting leaves.

  • It flurried here past few days. Obv yesterday when I HAD to go out, it was cold a.f.
So I went into the office for the morning to get some back room stuff done. I'm going back next week to do more detailed part of it.

My plan was to work on it until about 1 but I really didn't want to do the detailed part. I was annoyed because I then had to bus home, and bus part way back for 2:30 because I had a dr appt.
    Guh.

I basically lost an entire day of work but whatever.
I have a quick follow up appt on Monday with dr - I'm getting an IUD - and luckily that's over lunch.

@ei34 On principle I'd be pissed.
  • It's rainy out.  Blerg.

DH is sad about missing the NFL Draft this year.  Our big plans tonight is a laundry folding party while we watch the draft. LOL  I may have to break with him once RHoNY comes on because tonight's episode looks wild.  Two words: vibrator chicken

SSDD around here otherwise.  Prudie coming up.

Yeah it’s cold and gloomy here.  Matches my mood.  Blossom tree sounds awesome @ei34 bu I agree with @kerbohl.  It’ll come around again next year! 2020 will be a year to remember.

Walmart pick up now has time slots for me. First time since March 13th. Granted, it’s a week out. I added the stuff my jewel osco couldn’t get for me.  I like Walmart better because you can add and adjust all the way up till 1:00 a.m. the day of pick up and jewel doesn’t allow that. I get 5% off both places, and yesterday at jewel I waited 1/2 hr for my groceries.  Walmart p/u kinda sorta wins.

    That’s my life, folks.  Groceries.

  • If anyone is interested in the dumpster fire that is Georgia right now, our idiot governor is still set on reopening bowling alleys and salons on Friday, but of course there is a huge backlash, because it is the stupidest possible decision. At first, Trump came out in support of it Tuesday. Yesterday, Trump came out saying it is too soon. A ton of places have said that they will not reopen, even if they do lose benefits. I just can't understand it. My sister sent me a text yesterday that her hospital's ICU is full, the floors converted to ICU are full and the morgue is full. The F(&*(*ing morgue is full and these idiots think this is a game.

Other than that, it's pretty much SSDD. It's rainy today, supposed to storm later, so the pup won't get her normal outdoor play time. I'm kind of excited about the pollen washing away, though. It should be really nice this weekend once the storms blow out.

Ugh @MyNameIsNot. SIL lives in GA and she's feeling similarly.  Luckily she works for a school, so she doesn't have to return to work and my nieces don't have jobs.  BIL is in Greenland on deployment with the Air Force. But yeah, your governor has always been an asshat (that stole his election from Abrams and I'll never believe differently) and he's really going for the gold.  The Las Vegas mayor is trying to take silver in that race.
  • Did you see the Vegas mayor interview with Anderson Cooper? I saw a clip where she basically just said to let people, and their businesses, die. I question whether this woman is competent to live on her own, much less run a major city.
I am waiting for the fallout.   It would have been funny if she wasn't turning her constituents into poker chips.
  • I didn't actually watch it, because I would probably punch something, but I read about it.  I feel like the mayor of Las Vegas needs to be a little crazy, but she's too far on one side of the spectrum.  A magic act should make her disappear or something. Hee.

Anderson's quip of "I'm an alarmist?" was my favourite. He really didn't like her from the beginning and it's obvious lol

That being said - WTF LADY!? Vegas isn't that important. Yes it'll be great to open up again, but watch the news. That's a year away.
  • Btw I won't be on tomorrow, but I have planned on facetiming my mum; cleaning my house; eating lemon bars; decluttering more.

    Distraction.

Let's not forget South Carolina.  Last I heard, they're going to be doing some of the same things as Georgia.

I get it, Las Vegas.  You're vying for #1 in the category of "What city does the pandemic suck the MOST for economically".  But casinos opening? Casinos!?!?  Thousands of people in one building.  Millions of buttons, handles, and playing cards that multiple people are touching over and over again.  GTFO.

  • I heard that Anderson asked the LV mayor if she would ever step in a casino and she said no! I have a family.  Or how they were expected to social distance in the casinos and her answer was “that’s up for them to figure it out”.

@MissKittyDanger, have a great day off.  Lemon is one of my fav dessert flavors.  Lemon and carrot cakes always tie when an option.

  • @CharmedPam I get my tastebuds for it from my dad, so I figured it was appropriate :) I'm hoping BabyKitten eventually gets a taste for it .... she's pretty mixed right now

M and just dropped our jaws at this.
    Like, what!?
  • My favorite was that the Vegas mayor wanted the casinos open, but would not be going to them.  Let them figure out the 6 feet spacing!  Thank goodness she doesn't run the casinos because they probably wouldn't have even shut them down.

I will be heading out today to get some fresh groceries.  My mom needs a few things, so I will be getting them too.  Today is also our day to get takeout, which I will pick up after groceries.  I've had good luck food shopping in the late afternoon, so I'm hoping that holds up again.

    SIB:
I was actually at the Harrahs in NOLA the day before it was shut down.  It was interesting they employed social distancing by shutting off enough machines, so no player would be within 6' or more of another one.
One of the staff members told me they had started doing that a few days earlier.

Not implying this makes the casino social distancing okay!  But it was an earlier, more innocent time...one month ago, smh.  Back then, it was fairly recent news that the virus could even live on surfaces for potentially 24+ hours.  And there were only a handful of cases locally (sigh).

Ironically, playing video poker is one of my forms of relaxation.  I'm not proud of it, but I miss you Harrahs, lol!  However, I still don't want them or any of the other casinos opening until it's safe.

  • On an off topic thing, our housing market hasn't tanked so we're still house hunting.

    https://www.realtor.ca/real-estate/21718650/87-birchbank-crescent-ottawa-bridlewood

It's conditionally sold but I emailed our realtor to see if there was even a possibility to know if conditions fall thru.
I kinda love it? Our  My aesthetic.
  • This is a random, stupid question about conspiracies ... has anyone heard the one that COVID 19 was manufactured by combining SARS with HIV?  I'm trying to wrap my head around why someone I know who worked in healthcare for decades believes that one ... Is that conspiracy more widespread than I know?

  • Today I learned for the third time this week that someone I knew died. All were elderly and were ill for some time. I'm not sure about the other two, but the one who passed away today died of COVID-19.

I hate news - both personal and the never-ending stupidies and conspiracy theories.

    :s
  • Who the f even wants to go bowling?!? Like, ok open. And be empty? Or are people stupid enough to think bowling is okay? Really seeing the consequences of decades of underinvestment in education.
  • @Jen4948, I'm sorry for your losses.

@STARMOON44, I would love to see businesses themselves take a stand and say, "Thanksbutnothanks, it's not safe for the greater good to open my business back up right now."  Plus, you're right.  They'll just be taking on greater expense for no reason, if few people come.  So I'll hope businesses themselves "see the light".  But, unfortunately, that's not what I'm expecting.

  • @short+sassy They are, in a limited capacity. Gyms are allowed to open today, but LA Fitness and Planet Fitness have both announced at they will be May 1 at the earliest. My salon sent a note that they won't be opening until at least mid-May. Article below is about restaurants in a busy in-town area.

I'm going to keep my faith in humanity and pretend that they're concerned about the greater good, but the reality is that it's mostly legal. All the guidelines say that if you reopen you need to take XYZ precautionary measures (spacing, masks, disinfecting, etc.) A lot of businesses, especially small businesses, don't have adequate supply of masks and gloves. If a business reopens without the recommended precautions, and then an employee or guest gets sick, the business could be held liable. I read yesterday that there have already been a couple of suits filed; I'm guessing that businesses are weighing the risks very carefully.
  • I hope businesses are still super cautious in GA, but I'm scared there's going to be a spike. And maybe in more rural areas, because they will go ahead without being fully ready.

Our governor is holding firm to May 1st, even though the data doesn't really show the curve is truly flattening as fast as they want to think it is.

I thought he said he is taking it on a two week basis, the next one ending on May 1st so that it could be extended at that time. Maybe I misunderstand what he said. He has been extending every two weeks though. Illinois has extended to mid May (I think that is what SIL said yesterday) and require masks in public places. I haven't heard anything about masks here, have you?
  • IL has extended through May 30 with a select few business types able to open with restrictions on May 1 (plant nurseries, golf courses, retail stores for pickup only, etc).  Masks required in public places.
