Hump Day

Good morning! SSDD here.  How's everyone else?

Re: Hump Day

  • My son just learned that if he slobbers in his hand enough it makes squishy noises when he open and closes it. Yuck!

DH and I had a productive chat during his lunch break. We decided we would plan our exit strategy for end of 2024 and that we would get the <on sale> nice dining chairs.

Other than that, SSDD. One foot in front of the other, one day at a time.
  • Sooooo for a half hour today I thought it was Thursday.

We have production delays that I need to communicate to clients and they are not really all that understanding.    I get it.   We are all stressed.   Snapping at me and making the delay about you isn't really going to help.   If you're not ordering something that is used on store shelves to help mitigate or assist those affected by the pandemic you may be pushed out.  Sorry.

I'm so sorry @mrsconn23 .  I've been thinking of you guys.  Sending you all the love and comfort at this time <3
  • I am so sorry MrsConn. Sending you lots of love.
  • Oh @mrsconn23, I’m so so sorry to hear about your Mom. I’ve been thinking about you and your family and how you’re all doing. I’m glad you got to be with her but I’m also really sorry this happened.

If there’s anything we can do to support you and your family, please know we’re here for you (and if I could send you bourbon I absolutely would!).
  • @mrsconn23 I'm so sorry to hear about your mom. You've been in my thoughts during all of this.
  • @mrsconn23 I’m so so sorry for your loss. I’ve been thinking about you. Sending you virtual bourbon and comfort.

  • So glad to hear you’re feeling better @VarunaTT! How many more weeks does K have left?
  • Not much here; run, work, sleep. Although the running is considerably slower these days and I have to stop and walk a lot more than I ever have. I feel like the running days are dwindling and I’ll have to just walk soon but I’m holding on to the running as long as I can. Feels like the only thing that’s keeping me sane these days!
  • So glad to hear you’re feeling better @VarunaTT! How many more weeks does K have left?
    Days!

K goes to a nursing school that is attached to a hospital.  Weirdly enough, that is coming back into vogue in nursing, b/c the university students don't ever get enough hands on clinicals and K has never had a semester where they weren't in a patient care setting for some sort of learning.

was in their last semester of nursing school which really should've just been 180 hours of hands-on patient care clinicals.  K get's their assignment, then the professor gets fired and the school pulls all the assignments.  K has to wait for a month to get new assignment.  Finally gets assignment and everything arranged with new clinical (ER nurse) and barely has enough time to get the 180 hours in with work schedule and preceptor schedule.  They get 36 hours finished, then school pulls students out of clinicals b/c of 'rona.  School takes 3 weeks to figure out what they're replacing the hours with.  So, K had 150 hours of clinical to make up through computer simulations, with other things in 6 weeks.  Which doesn't sound too bad except...didn't get access to all simulations until last week...one of the programs is a 12 week program...basically whatever this school could just completely screw up this semester, they did.  Thankfully, the school also announced that any Fs this semester wouldn't count against the program (2 Fs and you're washed out), so that pressure was gone, but still, the way this school has treated the students is truly shameful.

Everything is due May 8 and K is probably like 4/5th of the way through now, so really close.  And what is left is probably a night's worth of work for them.  So, keeping all crossables crossed and staying positive.

Ugh, that all sounds awful; at every point something went the opposite of how it could have gone! Are they still doing working with the client through all of this, too?

Giving you both all the strength to get through the next two days!
  • @VarunaTT Nursing schools are the biggest pile of bs, I swear. I have SO MANY issues with nursing academia it’s not even funny.

  • I’m here. I might have had one margarita too many last night. I’m trying to focus on the day at hand even though I know what’s coming. At some point I need to get serious about exercising again.

  • I'm so sorry @mrsconn23 virtual hugs.

DH's work called yesterday and he's going back on 5/18 when another segment of our state opens.  He has masks but I need to figure out if putting buttons on his work cap will help keep the mask secure without pulling on his ears.

I'll likely be WFH until the end of summer. I'm used to it now and it's going better than expected.  However, the child who lives upstairs has been so noisy with stomping on the floor and jumping around in the room above my office, it interrupts the calls I need to make.  I guess I'm going to have to have a conversation with Mom.  He's only 2 1/2 so it's challenging.

  • @mrsconn23, I'm so sorry to hear about your mom.  I'm glad you all could be there with her in the end.  I may not know any of you IRL, but my eyes were tearing for you all when I read your post.

@VarunaTT, I knew the virus had caused difficulties for K to finish their schooling, but I had no idea it was to that extent!  What a bunch of bs.  That is a crazy amount of work to do condensed into such a short time.  The fact that K or anyone else from their class will be graduating on time is an especially impressive achievement!

In a rare event, I'm going into the office today for the afternoon.  I have to pick up my paycheck and figured, while I'm already there, I might as well finish up the day from there.  I feel pretty safe about it though, because I'm assuming hardly anybody else is there.

I was laughing to myself this morning about that.  Like, "Weellll, I'll work in the office.  But only if I have the WHOLE floor to myself!"

  • @mrsconn23 my deepest condolences.   We're separated by states but please PM me if you ever need anything.   I'll lift my glass of Eagle Rare to you and your mom.

@mrsconn23 I am so sorry for you loss.  My thoughts are with you and your family.  Losing a parent is so rough at any time, but I can't imagine what you must be going through to have to face this on top of everything else that is going on.

@mrsconn23 I'm sorry.  I know that we all would do whatever we can to make it easier.  Even if it's just words on a screen right now.

I have the stupidest of complaints.  I had a band-aid where I'd had a thing on my back.  I peeled it off, put on a new band-aid.  Had less than 48 hours of band-aids a week ago.  I am apparently allergic (again) to these band-aids--these were the ones I wasn't allergic to before. a week later, I STILL have a bandaid shaped bunch of itchy welts.  It's driving me bonkers.

The Mr has to go back to work in 2 weeks, I"m working from home, things are hard but not impossible.  I hae my birthday this weekend, no party for me!

Went to the office this morning to pick up some mail and then had a gazillion documents I needed to print and figured I'd rather do it at work than at home.

Today has been flying by which is always good. It is cold but sunny so still decent for some walks.
  • @mrsconn23 I am so sorry for your loss. I'm glad y'all could be with her at the end. She seems to have been a very strong woman. I know I'm on the other side of the city but if there is anything I can do PM me.

I just got back from a nice long walk - beautiful day. It is suppose to be nice tomorrow then cooler temps and rainy - blech! The wind has picked up a bit so I think I have a wind headache! Not much going on today.
  • @levioosa I have been floored by the issues and inconsistency.  While a 4 year university might not been labeled as "prestigious" as others (which is weird to me already), the 4 year university has locked in policies that don't seem so changeable by whoever the hell feels like changing policies.

@charlotte989875 yes, they still are working with Turkey.  They've been doing a lot of homeschooling type stuff so that Turkey doesn't fall too far behind and keeps some structure.  But their new job has set up their orientation dates and start date (good news, we weren't sure how that was going to go with the 'rona and this program), so it's only about another 6 weeks.  I think it's going to be a terrible separation; K is still really excited to be starting their career path.
  • @mrsconn23, I'm so sorry. There's never a good time, but this is truly the worst.

Today is marginally better than yesterday. My work computer is basically on strike and taking forever to do anything, but my boss is slightly less annoying and my teammate is making me laugh. I think this probably means I need to bite the bullet and take a couple of days off, but it's been so busy that I would probably end up working anyway. So blah. 2 more days until the weekend.
