Wedding Woes

Friday.

I’m off today, which is good because I’m exhausted. I woke up & couldn’t get back to sleep and ended up watching the video of the violence that happened at the protests in my city last night. On the steps of our city hall. A few blocks from where I work. I’m furious and yet it was a matter of time.

Hoping everyone has a safe Friday.

Re: Friday.

  • Ugh, sorry @charlotte989875, that’s awful.  I was also up from 1:30-3:30 which sucks!

Well, my admin called last week and said they were getting a plan together for us to come back to work and she thought it would be the 8th, but no call from my boss yet so I guess it’s the 15th?  All the better.  I have a lot of deliveries that were delayed.  Also, re-fing my mortgage and they need to come in for an appraisal next week.

Does anyone know if good will is taking in donations yet?  I want to clean out my closets.  I guess I could still bag it up and leave it in my garage till they start taking them again?  It’ll be my weekend project regardless.

  • Glad to hear he doesn’t have covid, and hope he feels better soon @ei34

@charlotte989875 We have family that lives in Buffalo and while outraged, they weren't necessarily surprised by the police actions.

Today is the baby's second day with the nanny. Yesterday was incredibly difficult with lots of tears but I know it'll get better. I'm in the office today so it's a good distraction. She was so tired when she got home last night that she was asleep before 7 pm. I hardly got to spend any time with her so I'm extra looking forward to the weekend.
This is what everyone I’ve talked to this morning has said. We’ve had a number of incidents of excessive violence over the last few years and absolutely nothing has changed.

How are you doing with her being at the nanny? That has to be really tough! Hoping you all have a great weekend together.

Wait @charlotte989875 you’re in Buffalo?  Our news station JUST showed the video of the 70 year old man.  My jaw literally dropped.
Edit: 75.  Not that it matters

  • @VarunaTT love those shelves!

I am. Our news is reporting he is in serious but stable condition at our Level 1 trauma center. It’s horrible. And that they just kept walking.

That was on the steps of our city hall. About 3 blocks from my office, and sadly where we did our wedding photos.

haha the tears yesterday were all mine. She said Abby did great and was an absolute delight. She napped like crap over there (we get a daily report on what she ate, when she slept, diapers, etc) but it was only the first day - she'll get more used to napping there. I just hate giving up control and letting someone else take care of her - I'm mostly terrified something will happen in her sleep when she's there. I'm so strict about safe sleep at home because SIDS scares the hell out of me but all I can with the nanny is hope that she listens to us our requests that her sleep space is safe and follows the ABCs (alone, on her back, in a crib/pack n play)

@charlotte989875, I'm so glad you have the day off today.  I'm sorry about what's happening in Buffalo.

@ei34, thank goodness!  Thanks for sharing the good news that your son is doing a lot better and does not have COVID (phew).  Though I'm sorry you all had to be run through the ringer.  I'm sure those were some really stressful and tense days.

@CharmedPam, the Goodwill stores in my area are open, but it's probably area-specific.  Ours opened a couple weeks ago when retail stores were allowed to open at 25% capacity.  Though I've heard that most Goodwills were accepting donations, even if the stores weren't/aren't open.

I'm staying after work today (half day) to finish my Economic Impact Disaster Loan (EIDL) with the SBA.  I started it months ago.  Then they shut that program down.  But I guess it's "back on" because they sent me an auto e-mail to finish my application, so here's hoping!

I would finish it at home, but my internet is provided by the cable company Cox Communications.  My internet was out for 90% of the day on Sun. and cable wasn't working for about 50% of the day.  I called to ask what was going on.

They're doing upgrades on the lines in my area and there will be "intermittent" interruptions.  And then the CSR stops talking, smh.  "Okay.  How long is it going to take them to upgrade the lines?"  3-4 days, but could be up to 7 days.

Translation:  We'll start it.  Then we'll get distracted.  If you're really lucky, we'll finish in two weeks.  But we might never bother finishing.  Because we're an unfettered monopoly who doesn't give two s**ts about our customers.  I have loathed and despised this company with every fiber of my being for years.

While Sunday was the worst day, I've had my Internet go out multiple times every day.  So, since I can't rely on it at all.  I have to (hopefully) finish my EIDL application at work.  Thanks Cox.  Though I really don't understand why you don't spell your name the way it is pronounced.  Cocks.  Because that's much more apropos anyway, lol.

    Edited to add:

My Cox rant distracted me because I can't help but rant every time I think of them, lol.  But we're supposed to have HORRIBLE weather on Sun./Mon.  Tropical Storm Cristobal is heading back out into the Gulf sometime in the next 24 hours and the path is straight at Louisiana (sigh) with the really bad weather starting on Sun.  Though we've been on a flash flood warning that started I think on Thurs. and lasts until Tues. morning.  Though it's been clear, lovely, and sunny.

I'm just glad I have all the excuses to hunker down at home on Sunday and turn the world off.  If things look really bad on Monday, I might take a vacation day also.  I'd love for the company to send out a declaration that Monday is an exception and, if employees don't feel safe and want to work from home, they can.  But they're so rigid here.

And their irony.  They always put a newsletter with the paychecks/stubs.  The one we got at the beginning of June was all about flooding facts.  Including don't drive through standing water.  Because cars can start floating in only 6" of water and can be swept away in only 2' of water.

We are so concerned about the safety of our employees.  Don't come to work if it isn't safe.  Oh, but you need to use a vacation day or AWOP for that.  This last paragraph wasn't in the same newsletter, lol.  But the gist of it WAS in a Hurricane Preparedness e-mail we got the day before.

  • @mrsconn23, omg!  I am so sorry to hear about your dad's job!  It's horrible timing.  I hope it turns out to be a blessing in disguise also, but I hate that it's two major adjustments happening in his life at the same time.  At least he has another couple months of working to adjust to the idea of retiring.

I know!  I joked with him last night that he needs to complete the trifecta by moving.  Hee.

He honestly seems OK with it.  I think he'll feel more confident after going over numbers with his finance guy.
  • @mrsconn23 I'm sorry about your dad's job!

Work has been a shitshow. Two people on my team totally dropped the ball on things, even with me on top of them and the owners are PISSED. I'm supposed to have a Zoom meeting with them later. UGH.

We're having an assessor come to the house tomorrow, so at least that's moving forward. I'll be happy to finally know what the house is worth now.

Not sure what I'm planning for the weekend. I guess it depends if Fuckface is going to be around.
  • @CharmedPam I was going to stop at Dunkin this morning to get coffee and a free donut after dropping the baby off but the line was SUPER long. I might try after work if the baby isn't screaming in her carseat. I need a free donut!
  • This is pretty funny.  Our company sent an e-mail yesterday morning that they set up a mass text message service, in order to keep employees informed in the case of evacuations/emergenices.  And they were going to be sending a "test" text in the near future to make sure they have everybody.

They sent the test "text" hours later.  It came from a 844 area code, which isn't a real area code, but it's a common one for telemarketers.  As an aside, I've seen a HUGE uptick in spam text messages during the pandemic.  There really wasn't any info in the text message.  It had the company's initials, but not their name.  Nobody calls them by the initials.

Y'all, I did not make that connection AT ALL, lmao.  So I blocked the number, like I always do for random unsolicited texts/calls.

We got another e-mail this morning saying that they had sent the test text yesterday and to please e-mail back if you didn't receive it.  They included that it would be coming from (their initials).

Wait.  Hmmm.  That's ringing a bell...I check my blocked messages.  There it is!  Whoops.  Guess I better unblock it, lol.

  • @CharmedPam only the Goodwills that have stores are accepting donations in our area. All the drop off shops in strip malls are closed. I took a crap ton of stuff to the store near me last week. They don't have people accepting donations since they are trying to social distance, but they had boxes outside the donation doors and a sign saying to put stuff in or next to the boxes.

I went to a local bakery this morning to order the grandsons birthday cakes for next week (can't believe they are 2). They were doing great at precautions. I was glad to see that and that the customers wore masks. They even had X on the sidewalk outside the store marking six feet distances.

I'm really missing my friends. I have got to have a distanced lunch or cocktail hour with the ones I haven't seen forever. It's really getting to me. Not much going on this weekend. H will barbecue a pork shoulder tomorrow.
  • OMG @missJeanLouise, that's terrifying and hilarious.   At least you know he can figure out how to feed himself, LOL.  Also, at least he's only going for snacks.

It's the battle of keeping the diaper on for SIL.  Apparently, younger nephew wants to freeball while sleeping.  He's 2 and not potty trained.  So yeah.

They resorted to duct tape this week. That did not work.  There's a reason his nickname is 'yay-hoo'.  Hee.
  • Lol! Yay-hoo!!?! I love it.
Luckily DS doesn't know how to take his clothes off yet. He love to be naked.
  • @ei34 That's wonderful news that the test was negative!  I hope that he recovers quick from what he has.

I just got a partial refund in the mail today from my insurance company!  Nice to get unexpected money.  We get a lower rate on our cars since we aren't driving them right now.

No plans for the weekend - yard work, might get my summer tires on the vehicles, spend time with the pets.  We were supposed to get rain today, but it's holding off, so now I don't know if I'll be able to do laundry tomorrow since I won't be able to hang it up to dry if it's bad weather.

  • MrsConn. I sincerely hope that your Dad's change in employment is a silver lining.

This is going to be kind of long, sorry.

This morning I woke up and checked the baby monitor to see if DS was still sleeping. I couldn't really make him out on the monitor but sometimes that happens in Nightmode if his pajamas blend in with his sheets, or if he scrunches up on the one end of the crib you can't see as well. The monitor isn't the greatest, sometimes sound turns off randomly or the video feed freezes so I was trying to figure out if either of those things had happened while getting out of bed to go physically check on DS. While I was doing this DH and I were discussing the potential issues and other things. This all happened in about 5 minutes. I think I was saying something like "well if he was crying we would hear him." when this little MF'er comes walking around the corner in our room carrying snacks! He had some how climbed out of his crib, gotten out of his room, gone through a bag of mine, found snacks, walked up stairs, into our room, and was playing quietly for god knows how long!!!

DH and I were stunned! At first I asked DH had brought DS upstairs in his sleep, DH asked if our nanny was here. Neither of us could wrap our heads around what had happened, lol.

Soooo all of that to say, we put up the new gate across DS's door (so he can still open his door but he can't exit his room) and he is doing his overnight in his bed tonight. He has been doing his naps there for the past week so FX it goes okay. I really don't want this to be a fight, I am quite nervous.
I hope everything goes well with the transition to his bed!  Since nothing bad happened, I can't help myself that I'm laughing at what a cute and funny story it is.

Back awhile ago, my coworker went to go wake her toddler up...I forget if she was 2 or 3...and found a roll of chocolate chip cookie dough on the child's night stand.  With big ole' gnaw and bite marks on the open end of it, lol.

My coworker was a bit puzzled.  The cookie dough had been in the freezer, but they have a fridge where the freezer is on top.  They mystery was solved as she walked into the kitchen.  A dining room chair had somehow meandered itself away from the dining room table and was near the fridge.

  • That would have scared me @missJeanLouise. Fingers crossed he sleeps well tonight!

I’m so glad the result was negative @ei34

I’m back at my home base today and so glad, even though it’s 40 min farther from my house. I missed my space and the work flow. Yesterday we met up with FSIL and did a good hike. My goal is to work out every day in June, avoid alcohol until the 4th of July, and eat super healthy except for one cheat day a week. It’s been going well so far but it’s also only been like two weeks, lol.

  • @missJeanLouise Omg I would've been terrified! I'm so glad he was okay and it's hilarious that he got himself snacks. At least he didn't get into anything naughty while he was out and about!
  • @mrsconn23, sorry about your Dad. Hopefully he really is OK with an early retirement.
@ei34 so happy for those results!
@missJeanLouise so scary that he was able to do that!  I did laugh at “that MFer”. I can picture him walking in like nothings wrong with his bag of teddy grahams.  I only used teddy grahams because damn I want some!
    @short+sassy I honestly would have blocked/ignored a number I didn’t know either

  • @MyNameIsNot Tubing sounds like a great way to spend the weekend!  I hope you have great weather for it!

  • It's perfect weather, hotAF!
