Hump Day

How's everyone?  I'm kind of bummed that virus cases are on the rise in some states.  All these months of mask-wearing and distancing and flattening the curve for this :#  Just wrapping up some school-year stuff here.  Hope everyone has a safe and healthy day!

Re: Hump Day

  • So right @CharmedPam! It’s like we’ve just decided we’re over it. It got to me the other day but I have to keep reminding myself I’m not the Covid police. Restaurants just opened up to 50% capacity indoors here and you honesty could not pay me to do that now.

Every day pretty much just feels exactly like the day before. Get up, run/walk, eat, work, eat, sleep.

I'm trying not to be the Covid police too @charlotte989875 ..that's a good term.  I feel so judgey and I hate that but some areas...come onnnnn.  It's real and we're barely out of our first wave, it's just crazy to me.

I feel the same way! Maybe it’s being in NY (and upstate was better than downstate) but we still had it fairly bad (worse than similarly sized cities). The thing that’s frustrating is all of the reopening plans are supposed to still come with masks, social distancing, etc and I feel like that’s just not happening. H has been out and has been super frustrated with that, people not wear masks, getting close to other people, far more people in an area that there should be. It’s like we’ve decided we don’t need to precautions that made opening up a possibility anymore.

@charlotte989875 yup!  We're on the fence right now about whether or not we'll make our trip to NH this summer (my parents and siblings all go too, we're all unsure).  I follow our two favorite NH amusement parks on social media and they just announced they're opening late June, with lots of precautions, including mask wearing, and I'm shocked by the uproar.  "That's ridiculous!" "What has the world come to?!" "My family and I boycotting this year!"  Like damn we've been wearing masks for everything, everywhere since March 13th, get over yourselves.  (Ironically NH's saying is "live free or die".)  And I don't mean to shit on NH, that's my second home I adore the White Mountains, and my entire family's hesitance comes from not wanting to infect them with NYC-area germs, but it was disheartening to see.  And NH isn't even one of the "states doing a bad job" right now, I'm only mentioning them since it's the area I know best outside of my own.
  • @CharmedPam, I wonder where the bike rally was. I don't remember hearing about one, but the world is on fire so that's low on the news scale.

Also, I love that tweet from Taylor Tomlinson. I saw it earlier this week.  If you haven't seen her Netflix special, I recommend it.
  • We still have Disney booked for August and the only thing that's convincing me not to cancel is their reduced capacity, increased hand sanitizing and washing, closing of multiple restaurants and forced mask wearing.

That said our hotel is closed, there's no indication of when it will open and we need to have a reservation to get into the parks so if we can't get one for all the days we're rescheduling it.   Oh - and despite being in the one area of CT that wasn't a problem there's still a forced 2 week quarantine for CT residents entering FL and if that's not lifted we can't go anyway.

For local areas I hope we keep wearing masks.   We have gone without them only with MIL and FIL and even then we're mostly outside.

Today is our niece's 1st birthday in heaven and we named the boat after her.   We're going out with MIL and FIL after work for a ride up the river because we should remember her.
  • I'm bummed, but not even a little surprised. When I go to the grocery store in my liberal in-town suburb, everyone wears a mask and properly distances. When I stopped by the store on the way to my SIL's house in a redder part of the state, I was the only one in a mask and I got glares. Then factor in that people are throwing caution to the wind and going out to restaurants and bars with basically no protection, it's not even a little surprising.

Otherwise, a pretty chill day here. H took the day off to take care of some odds and ends. His sister is packing up for the move next week. Their new house will be much smaller, so we're taking some of the extras that she doesn't have room for. I'm excited that we're getting a bed for the guest room and a few things that I'll be able to put in the basement. We'll probably end up donating about half of it, though.
  • Missouri is officially wide open, though local orders are allowed to supersede state orders, so my city isn't.  Still, my trips to any local stores have shown I'm in the minority of wearing a mask b/c 'Murica.  Regal did announce that they were opening July 10 and they have some pretty stringent requirements.  Also, since I have unlimited, I feel fine with purchasing a ticket and if I feel the theatre is too full, I'll just leave.

I did my makeup today because I needed to feel better.  I felt so down yesterday after I left work.  We finally have an explanation for the change over in software and I get their issue, but they've caused far greater issues with how they chose to solve it (basically: storage).  Morale in the office is at an all time low and that's saying something considering we had nearly 100% turnover a few years ago.

    Is it Friday yet?
  • I'm sorry @VarunaTT.  Work changes that make your life/job harder are the worst, and not having a real explanation as to why is even more frustrating.

You all are speaking to my choir!

I did a rare weekday grocery trip last night.  I was definitely being the judgy, side-eyer at people not wearing masks.  I don't say anything because, more than likely, that just annoys/angers people and isn't going to change their mind anyway.  But then, that's the whole problem.  Too many people still aren't taking it seriously and I find that very frightening for our future.  I was standing near a group of three people with one baby near the deli counter.  Not one of theme was wearing a mask.  I realize a baby can't because I don't think they're supposed to until they are at least 2.  But GD it!!!  All the MORE reason the adults who spend time around a baby should be wearing masks!!!

FWIW, most people in my city do wear masks in public.  The rest of the state entered reopening phases sooner than NOLA did.  We haven't seen an uptick yet, but surrounding parishes (counties) have.

I'm also concerned about all the protestors in relation to COVID-19.  On the one hand, I'm so glad the protests are happening because the awareness level has been raised so much higher.  And it seems like we are on a path to making real changes.  But, on the other hand, it's a dangerous time to be having them because of the pandemic.  So many people packed like sardines.  It can't help but cause more people to get sick.  I'm not saying people shouldn't protest.  I'm just sad people have the added burden of potentially exposing themselves to this virus to stand up for what's right.

FL (eyeroll).  One of the last states to have a Stay At Home order and one of the first to reopen.

They announced a couple weeks ago that people from Louisiana were now allowed to enter the state again.  My H and I both laughed and had our mouths drop open.  Uhhhh, we should be the ones banning people from FL coming to our state now.

I hope your all's Disney plans work out.  I know it was disappointing to have had to cancel it the first time.

My neighbours are doing renos right now, and the contractors park in front of my house every morning about half an hour before I have to wake up.  Which isn't a big deal, they aren't loud, but it wakes up my dog and then she starts whining to be fed, and it's throwing off my schedule.  Dog, I love you, but learn some patience!

Also having a huge blow-out fight with the guy that we used to game with (if anyone is familiar with LARPing).  He decided that a group of us saying that they way he treats us in unacceptable meant that we are all horrible people, so then went out of his way to email everyone involved that my hubby is a horrible person and that they should know better than to associate with him.  I'm done with the gaslighting he's been doing and hubby and I are cutting ties.  Which sucks because we also have a weekly game with another group that he is also a part of, so that might also be something that we have to leave.

    Edited because words.
When I was in college, I lived in apartment complexes.  At one of them, the garbage truck came on Tuesdays and Thursdays to empty the garbage dumpster nearest to me.  And every one of those mornings, the truck was heavy enough to trigger the car alarm for one of my neighbors.  It was like clockwork, lol.  In my slumber, I would just barely hear the garbage truck driving near.  Then the car alarm would go off and wake me up about 30 minutes before my alarm, lol.

Hopefully your neighbor's renovations won't last much longer.  I'm also sorry to hear about the falling out with your all's former friend.  It's bad enough for something like that to happen, but an extra bummer that it's affecting your relationship with other gaming friends.

  • I just ordered more masks because the original ones we had were handmade and tie behind the head which IMO is a hassle. Now that masks are in stock on Amazon I've ordered 8 total. Not much going on today. We got home yesterday from Chicago. It was so much fun celebrating the boys' 2nd birthday. It was outdoors (a bit chilly) and socially distant (8 adults total) so it was fine. Today I'm headed to the chiropractor again. My hip is slowly improving but I still made an appointment with an orthopedist later this month. I don't think I need an hip replacement but there has to something that can be done.

DS2 is still here and will remain here through the last weekend of the month. DS1 and DIL are planning on coming that weekend. We haven't seen them since Christmas so it will be great seeing them. They've been super conscientious about distancing since they are of course working from home. It will be fun having at least 2 of my kids together at home.
  • We're just in phase 2 of opening, and although some things I wanna do I'm still holding off - especially due to back appts.

Sunday my mum is going to cut my hair, since I really need it. I can't justify seeing a stylist right now for just that. I wanna do colour but not yet - I am going back blonde.
Right now, I just need a few inches off for weight reasons.

I'd love my brows waxed but trying to hold off for awhile also. I may not be able to wait longer though ....

Staff meeting via fb messenger today. Discussing likely our phases of back in the office. Likely going to be a part time situation. Part time in, part time home.

Honestly, I'm almost ambivalent knowing we'd be in the beginning phase.   And if for some reason it doesn't happen I'm happy to play the game of "what will you do for me because you can't make it happen this year Disney?"

They already gave me a 35% discount on the hotel and if we drive down next year I'm open to entertaining different ideas for the resort.  It's a year of putting things in perspective.
  • ...And H just found out his company is merging with two others & his CEO is stepping down.

This is what happens when I say every day is the same.
  • Banana - That is lovely way to honor your neice!

We are pretty good at wearing masks in my state, so that is a positive.  But there are the people who think its crap and are begrudgingly going along. Like the people who keep their nose out of their masks.

I took DD to Target the other day, since I needed 3 things and I knew she would love to be out shopping again.  A guy walked by with his nose hanging out and she says out loud, "Why is that man not wearing his mask correctly?"  I mean, a 3 year old gets it and wears her mask correctly - why can't you!!!!

Yoga tonight.  Brother & SIL found a rental and are going through the process to get it.  They found a place where they could potentially rent a stairlift and its getting worked into the request to the insurance company for approval.  S+S, I had given SIL the info about the Fair Housing Act and she looked into and it made her feel better about getting a stairlift for a rental. So thank you!

Wow. It's probably too early to know what that means, but fingers crossed that things stay normal.
  • Well, FSIL (of course) tested positive. I’m just waiting on my test results now. Still no symptoms over here. Last night FSIL asked me if I wanted to do a hike on a crowded trail today and I was like wtf, what part of “you have covid symptoms, you’ve been tested, and you need to stay home” do you not understand?!

  • @charlotte989875 I’m sorry about the news for your H. Hopefully everything goes smoothly for the merger.

I hope you're negative.  But seriously.

Definitely too early, but he seems optimistic? They announced this morning and have meetings all day so we’ll see if he still feels like that tonight.

    That’s just ridiculous.

    Really hope you’re negative!
  • @levioosa, wow, just wow.  I hope your FSIL stays okay and only has a mild case.  I especially hope your test results come back negative.  But talk about a real-life example of WHY states need to be judicious in opening things back up.  Because, despite the onslaught of news for months on what to do/not do, people still can't be trusted.

@charlotte989875, I hope everything goes well with the mergers!
