Hump Day

Re: Hump Day

  • I have never had to do a drug test for a job.

Work is very busy, so hopefully I can pop in here and there.  I might be a lurker for a few weeks ... I hope everyone is doing well!

WOW!  I think the only ones I didn't drug test for were retail.

I was never drug tested at any of the universities I worked at, the first time I was ever tested was coming to work at the bank.
  • I've even had some of the mystery shopping companies I do gig work for require drug testing for specific projects, lol.  Though I personally have never been interested enough in any particular set of assignments to bother with it.

I've never been drug tested for any job I've had. @charlotte989875 My H works at a bank and I don't think he was ever drug tested when he started as a teller 11 years ago. They have it in their policy that they can randomly test but it's never happened and it wasn't mandatory as part of his new hire process.
  • I've also never been drug tested for any of the jobs I've had.
  • I have only been drug tested once and that was part of the hiring process at the Health Care System where I work.  DH had a drug test as part hiring on to his current position as a driver.  He has to be tested every year as part of his DOT card.

I was drug tested once, for my Social Work Assistant job at a large home health company.  But never for any of my positions in schools, or any of my high school/college jobs (food services/retail).
  • Add me to the Never drug tested list.

I was tested at my current corp job, but I never was at any of the small <100 companies that I worked at.

I wasn't tested as a server. I remember us joking about it that there would be no one to hire if it were a requirement. Pretty much everyone smoked weed back then.

I had an acquaintance who was the valet manager for one of the high-end French Quarter hotels.

It was a pretty decent paying job, around $40K-$45K (including tips), especially for a MCOL city like NOLA.

But he was perpetually short-staffed and always looking for valets.  He told me in frustration there were only two requirements for the job.  Employees needed to be able to pass a drug test.  And needed to be able to drive a stick shift.  He said he had the DAMNDEST time finding people who could do both of those things, lol.

Yes, the stick shift thing weeded a lot of people out.  But, when he called people for an interview, he'd tell them a drug test was required for employment and asked them not to waste either one of their time with an interview, if they weren't going to pass.  More often than not, they admitted they wouldn't pass and that was the end of it.

Yeah, that’s why I vaguely remember being shocked they required a test. Like 70% of our staff constantly worked high lol.

I’m not sure we test everyone; I came in as an officer so that might have been it? I also had to have a financial background check and foreign assets control check. It could also be my division (Treasury) that requires it.

    SWINGS!!
The grands (and parents) lived here for 60+ days during the height of the virus.  My next door neighbor wiped down their swing set for the grands to use.  Neighbor's  youngest is 19, so clearly it has not been used for several years.  We also live directly across the street from the neighborhood park.  DD refused to let the kids play on either set of equipment.  Her kids; her rules. Respect; would NEVER betray!  We had a sleepover from yesterday morning until just an hour or so ago.  We got permission t swing today and the kids were in their glory!!  The 6 year old granddaughter literally SANG the entire time she swung.  Truly the simple joys in life!!
We had our first parking lot Mass last weekend and it was so awesome.  The first time since March 15th to receive Communion.  In church Masses begin this Sunday!  Groups are being limited to 50, even though our church is large enough that I think we could expand that number.  We are starting with two in church Masses, and continuing with the parking lot Mass.  We're getting there!
I don't know if DD will go to the parks once they open. It is really hard though because the boys LOVE going to the park, and they are within walking distance of 5. I'm glad your grandkids were able to use the neighbor's swing. The mind picture of your granddaughter singing made me smile. Our church hasn't opened yet. Even when they do (I think they're aiming for mid-July) I'm not comfortable going at first. How is your church doin communion?

My church re-opened for masses at 25% capacity, but no communion yet.  I haven't gone (it was just last weekend), I'm still content with mass in my living room. Not ready to be indoors with others just yet, if not grocery shopping.  My parent's parish (my original parish) is reopening next week with parking lot mass and my mom said the pastor is toying with everyone bringing their bread from home and he'll consecrate it.  Which is interesting.

Hard no on playgrounds* for my kids for now.  Not that they're open yet.  A wiped down, disinfected, not-touched-by-anyone-else backyard swingset would be a definite yes though.  It's funny how everyone has their own comfort levels.

  • I'm somewhat OK with a playground if I know what my kids are going to do on it (like no licking please) and I bring hand sanitizer with me for the before and after.   The playground at our local beach park is open and I'll consider that for the kids if the precautions are taken.

A not-used playscape?  Is the DIL thinking that the birds drop Covid on it?  I realize that there is a 'too each their own' comfort but if it's proven that the set is not in use by others it seems.....extreme.

Granddaughter sang her heart out!  We had our usual "show tunes", including the new favorite, "Rock You Like a Hurricane" from Trolls #2, and of course, Frozen.  But GoNoodle has introduced her to many new ones, such as "Believer".  Our "family" swing go-to is "I'm Like a Bird", and that was the first song she belted out.  My heart.....
For parking lot Mass......everyone had to remain in their cars.  Communion was a two-fold process.  Hands were extended from the car window.  Usher #1 came around with a hand sanitizing spray.  The EM followed shortly thereafter and placed the Host into our hand.  This was actually a little clumsy for me as I still receive the Host by tongue.  I am curious to see how it is done next week in church.
Last week we started allowing 10 people (at a time) into the church for private prayer.  Sign ups were required.  Parishoners were allowed 20 minutes.  After a group of 10 left, the designated pews were cleaned by volunteers and then another group of 10 were allowed inside.
@banana468, DD has some fairly significant anxiety issues.  I agree that declining the neighbors offer seemed more than absurd to me, but I have to respect her rules, and understand her paranoia.  Sometimes rationalizing with her helps, but issues that involve the potential for death/dying play into her OCD.  I have to be completely trustworthy whether I agree or not.  I've learned how to "read her" and can usually tell when she is ready to accept some changes.  She does allow the kids to have small (1-2 kid) play dates.  However, that is because it involves things she can control, such as knowing these kids were also under fairly strict distancing rules, have parents that will help with maintaining social distancing, etc.

Got it.   We're no stranger to some anxiety issues in our home and I get that not every issue is worth rationalizing.
