I ended up watching.  "Hot mess, inside a dumpster fire, inside a train wreck"-Jake Tapper   Truer words could not have been said.

"Will you shut up, man?" This, please, forever and ever.

All that said, I still don't understand being shocked about anything that Trump says or does. Wallace was a total buffoon. I will say my anxiety was terribly high watching, so IDK about my debate viewing going forward.  Well, I will watch Harris and Pence because she's a master class in verbal jiu jitsu and I hope she makes Pence cry for 'mother'.

Next debate is supposed to be a 'town hall' setting where voters get to ask questions.  He had a really hard time with the town hall he did in the last month or so, when it was just him.  So having to 'compete' with Biden AND voters asking him questions...He may shit himself on stage.

One thing that I'm not quite understanding is this call, from Orange Fuckface, for 'poll watchers'.  I understand it's coded language to tell people to patrol to intimidate...but like, they can't go IN the polling location unless they're an election worker or voting, right?  So what are they watching in the parking lot?  Also, from what I understand, most places have been inundated with applications for election judges/poll workers, so going through 'legal' channels to become a judge (which you likely have to state you're there to make sure shit goes smoothly and can't interrupt or interfere with anyone voting or whatnot) a lot of people are likely behind the 8 ball since I know there's been a push for months to sign up if you're healthy and able.

DH and I are planning on early voting in a couple weeks.  I'm curious to see if there will be anyone 'poll watching', even though this area is pretty firmly red.

Other than that, SSDD.  I have no idea what to make for dinner tonight.  The grey, windy, chilly weather has me feeling some spaghetti...but that means I have to go to the store.

  • Definitely didn’t stay awake long enough to watch it but caught all I needed from Twitter during late night feedings. Did he seriously tell the Proud Boys to stand by?! WTF.

Took the baby for a walk and got caught in a downpour. I’m hoping to snuggle on the couch and watch TV with him most of the day.

He did.  It was definitely a 'wow' moment.

The way it went was that Wallace asked him to denounce white supremacist groups.  He was all, "Sure, sure, sure...Who are they?!"  Then the three of them were all talking over each other and Biden yells out "Proud Boys" finally.  Trump then says something about how he'll tell them to stop, but ANTIFA needs to stop too. Biden points out that TRUMP's FBI classifies these groups as hate groups and a problem in the US.  Trump ignores it and it's still chaotic yelling. Wallace finally gets a word in and asks Trump again to denounce them, and Trump looks into the camera and tells them to stand down, but stand by in case the 'left wing' starts again.  It was wild.

This is all paraphrased and after some wine.  But watching it happen was chilling.

(I keep editing for clarity, as clear as the muddled mess it was can be)

Well that’s even worse than I thought.
  • Wait when is prime days?  Is it the same Canada vs America? I thought prime days was rescheduled to August but never saw it... or if I did, it was a big whoop-de-do? Either way, I thought I placed an order with them about 1/2 hr ago and now I can’t find the order in my history or email.  Where did it go?  Is it caught in the webs of the interwebs?

So today was day 1 of wearing my magnetic lashes.  So far, I’m loving them and I know with practice it’ll only get better! They’re light, they look good and staying on for the most part (granted it’s only 9:40).  This is my 2nd time ever wearing magnetics. My first pair was a cheap $7 dollar one from marshalls, and they were horrible!  So glad I gave another brand a try.

  • We ended up watching the whole damned thing. I was pretty much resigned to avoid it, but H wanted to watch. I started with "ok, 15 minutes and then I'm going upstairs" but I just couldn't look away from the train wreck. Also, H had the wine in the room with the tv, so I was bribed. The shut up moment was classic. Calling him a clown was the highlight of my day. Biden also had a moment with bringing up injecting bleach. The attack on Biden's son's drug addiction while also dismissing the dead one was horribly mean spirited, and then telling the white supremacists to stand by was horrible.

I already say I'm not going to watch the rest, except the VP, but I know that's probably a lie. But I'm going to need much more wine next time.
  • @CharmedPam I believe it might be same but October 13th and 14th
    {M & I joke it's a Black Friday deal because that's just after our Thanksgiving lol}
  • I'm honestly surprised I was able to make it through the whole debate without throwing something at the TV. Shitshow indeed. Trump is so disgusting.

Yes, these are the Prime dates in the US also.  I usually find a few things I like on Prime Day, but I don't stalk it and rarely have a specific plan.

This year, Target is throwing their hat in the ring for the same two days!  Supposedly they are going to be doing something similar with great bargains and (I'm guessing) timeframes for extra good deals on some items.

  • Day 2 logging in from work.  If this keeps up I'm re-taking Pam's TV character quiz, I imagine I'll end up with some badass characters next time.

H turned the debate on at one point and was laughing at Trump but I couldn't do more than 5 minutes.  Just too much.  DS is home sick from school today, he kept saying his ear hurt.  No fever or any other symptoms, but he and the girls have flu shot appts with their ped later anyway...any absence needs a doctor's note to return to school, so we can grab one this evening (or highly unlikely but she'll diagnose an actual illness).
  • I didn't watch the debates and I'm glad I didn't after hearing the recaps!  Who needs to hear people just shout over each other the whole time?  And then to hear about tRump's "highlights"?  That's not even a dog whistle anymore - its just blatant racism.

I will definitely watch Kamala because she was my top choice for President and was sad she was out of the race by the time the NJ primary came around.  I may watch the next Presidential debate because its supposed to be a town hall and tRump is always terrible when he has to deal with the public - so it may be more watchable.

For those interested, I burned through a 3 part docuseries on Netflix about voting.  It featured both conservatives and liberals to talk about voting rights, buying elections and gerrymandering.

We are hoping to get some Firesticks from Prime Day and MIL wants a Ring doorbell too.

I will have a Target run on my lunch today and maybe Christmas Tree Shop too.  Tonight will be yoga.
  • I was literally a captive audience to the debate last night. I finally got to the salon to get my hair done and they had it on super loud. It was horrific and embarrassing. I wasn’t going to watch it originally because I was worried my head would explode. Instead I was forced to watch it, without booze, and my blood pressure was caught in the crossfire. I won’t be watching any more of those debates. The end was bone chilling when he called for his proud boys to watch the polls.

I’m super annoyed today. I set up my new phone, and now it’s saying it doesn’t have any carrier services attached. So I basically have a brick that plays some music. No way of contacting anyone and my watch, which is also supposed to have independent cell service, isn’t getting reception either. I’m so sick of this run around with the phones. I also only slept 4.5 hours so I’m sure that’s adding to my annoyance.

  • @OliveOilsMom Unless you already have a firestick now, I wouldn't waste your time. I've gone through 3 of them because none have ever lasted longer than 6-9 months before they just slow way down or stop working. I'm going to bite the bullet and get a Roku for both TVs since we no longer have cable.

we have a firecube and a firestick (in our bedroom).  I'd recommend the cube or a roku for TV's that are used daily.

I came in a little late, while they were talking about prescriptions, and my timing could not have been more perfect on a subject I know a lot about.  Insulin prices.

And Trump having the audacity to say that insulin costs have been a major problem...yes, true, people have died trying to ration their insulin...but, under his administration, the prices have been brought down so much that insulin is now like water :open_mouth:  No, that isn't true even in the slightest.  My long-acting vial insulin is the same price it has always been.  My fast-acting insulin...this is the really expensive stuff, but is much better than the old-fashioned kind...is still $550 for a box of five pens.  Or at least it was last time I checked my Costco pharmacy about 8 months ago.  That box only lasts me about 3 weeks.  Which is why I buy it from an online Canadian pharmacy.  Where the exact same brand and box is $135/box, same as always.  Making it $180/month but only if I am buying it from Canada.  Does Dom Perignon produce water nowadays?  Maybe that's as cheap as their water.  At least in Canada.

I really don't understand why news people were so aghast at how "unpresidential" Trump was in not following the debate rules and the name calling.  I wasn't surprised at all.  But I knew there had to be something he would do that would shock even me.

And here it was.  There was moment of confusion on Biden's part as to which son Trump was disparaging.  Trump waved his hand and offhandedly said something like, "I don't know who Beau is, I'm talking about Hunter."  Wow, smh.  I don't even follow politics much and I know who Beau is.  That's his son.  Who died fairly young only a few years ago from cancer, ffs.  I suspect you know that, Trump, and are a callous monster.  Or you don't and are just that big of an idiot that you don't know the basics about your opponent.  It is hard to say.  Because he is both of those things.  But I'm leaning toward callous monster.

Biden was hardly exemplary and engaged in name calling and low blows also.  But while I didn't find that endearing either, I could see where he may not have had much choice because Wallace was doing a shit job moderating and Biden could hardly get a word in edgewise.  BUT, Biden never stooped to bringing Trump's family into it.  Even though there is substantially more material there then there is about his own son, Hunter.

My H kept questioning why Wallace wasn't shutting mics off when either one of them were interrupting or talking past their 2-minute timeline.  I agree.  But think a bullhorn would have been more effective and entertaining!

I like my roku!  It's been great.

Second day of IT issues for me at work that is really annoying me.  And I had issues last week too ... I knew I had internet issues, so I started work 20 minutes early so IT would have time to fix it, and I was just on hold the whole time.  So I ended up trying different things and fixed it myself.

  • We went with an NVIDIA Shield to stream and had an old Roku too.   The nice part is that they'll also stream Prime but are IMO a nicer platform to work with.

So I read a little about this. They can't. When the candidates agree to the debate, they haggle over all the details from day/time, moderator, structure, etc. Permitting the moderator to shut off the mic would have to be agreed upon ahead of time. Trump's campaign is never going to agree to it as part of his strategy is to interrupt and intimidate his opponent--if done correctly, he could bait and distract his opponent. Biden's campaign would never agree to it because they know that if Trump overdoes it (like last night) he winds up looking like a buffoon and a bully.

No one really gives a damn that it would be better for the people if they'd mute them.
  • @MyNameIsNot, thanks for explaining that.  It does seem ridiculous because, without it, you can have the awful outcome that happened last night.  But I can also understand why neither candidate would agree to it.

I'll cut Wallace a little more slack then.  I still think he could have done a better job, but it's hard to control things when there are no consequences for breaking the debate rules.

  • Thanks for the recs!   I will send H on a research mission to see which works best for us!

I'll admit that the Shield is super geeky.   DH also uses it for his Plex server storage.
  • That debate was a tremendous waste of time -- and totally predictable.

I actually wrote to the DNC before the primaries to request that there be no debates between the Democratic candidate and Trump, because Trump would behave exactly the way he did.
  • I couldn't watch. We flipped by for about 3 seconds and that raised my blood pressure. I just don't get how anyone can support Trump. I've unfollowed a family member today. I just can't take it anymore.

I went to book club this afternoon. It was so much fun to be out with friends. It was a bit windy and a little chilly but it was still great. The hostess has a big fire pit on her patio so that took care of the chill. @kvruns ( I think you asked what we read) the book was 28 Summers by Elin Hilenbrandt (not sure about that spelling.). It was a good book but the consensus was we were all pretty annoyed at the two main characters.

I'm pretty worn out so am back in our bed with an ice pack on my hamstring. I will probably fall asleep early because I slept like crap last night.
