Working on Wednesday

Re: Working on Wednesday

  • Popping in.  Work is keeping me busy because I am trying to wrap up any loose ends before being out for 10 days so my back-up doesn't have anything to keep an eye on.  We've also had shit to do every night (close on our refi Monday and then a cub scout meeting last night...at least it ended up on zoom so I could drink wine).  We have DefConn's p/t conference via zoom tonight.

My stress levels are so ridiculous.  My face is breaking out.  Grr.  I also slept so hard on my shoulder the other night that it's hurt for 3 days.

All I'm hoping is that I can fully relax at some point next week.  Maybe.

  • @OliveOilsMom and @STARMOON44, thanks for the suggestion he get a test anyway.  I did a Google search and it looks like there are a number of places in NOLA that do them for anyone, for any reason.  I'll see if I can talk him into it.  He is the biggest baby ever when it comes to going to the doctor or anything like that.

I was pleased and a little shocked he agreed to get a flu shot this year.  We're waiting another 1-2 weeks, so it isn't too early.  He had to have them when he was in the Army and said they always made him really sick for 1-2 days.  Never mind that was 30 years ago, smh.  It's still always been a hard no.

But a few weeks ago, I had a serious talk with him and asked him to please get one.  Just this year.  And we'll make sure to plan it, when he can lay low for a couple days afterward, jic he doesn't feel well.  He saw it was important to me and agreed.

  • that stinks @cupcait927 especially doing them through a mask. I don't do OE meetings but I think most of our clients are OK with virtual. We've been trying to get client to do pre-recorded OE anyway for the last few years so I think that is working in our favor.
  • @kvruns the ones that have needed onsite are my clients that have factory/manufacturing floor workers. They don't work in front of a computer and with Covid, you can't put them all in one conference room to watch a recording so they need onsite meetings. I'm trying to push my clients that aren't making any changes at all to not even bother with a meeting and just distribute the necessary materials for the new plan year electronically.
  • Unless you get up, it’s only the top half they see @kvruns

  • @kvruns replace the shorts with leggings and that's how I appear on every Zoom call lol. It's usually a scramble 3 minutes before the call to find a bra and a dressy top and make sure my hair isn't a total disaster.

I do not support video calls.   I've been working remotely for nearly 6 years and hearing the golden tones of my voice is all you need.
I've dialed in for meetings for 9+ years now.  But I will say that I do occasionally get the iPad out for a zoom with my team for funsies.  If I'm having a good hair day. LOL

Yeah, it's the random customer meeting where they Zoom and all I can think is, "Spare me the pretense."

I actually hated doing my webinar this was as it turns out. I didn't think about it but since I was sharing my screen for the ppt all I could see was a full screen of my slides and not any of the other people on the call so I felt like I was talking to myself for an hour. On the bright side it was shorter than normal since it didn't have the normal interaction - I guess that was the bright side!

Do y’all use Webex? There’s A way to see participants while sharing full screen

I use webex for training, and I usually have it so I can see the participant list.  WebEx has it's pros and cons, but I've been liking it!

Me too! This is what we’ve always used and I like the screen sharing & participant options, plus the whiteboard features are handy. Seems a lot better than Zoom IMO.

Also whatever happened to Skype? How were they the first video call system and are barely being used these days?

I use Skype every week for my Italian lessons. Maybe it's because it is international? IDK.

We had Skype for business as our messenger for a while, but they moved us over to teams last year. I gathered that Teams being part of Office meant it's a lot cheaper than maintaining the independent Skype subscription.

So bizarre!  We were just moved over to TEAMS last year from Skype as well!  But I avoid it for training most of the time.

  • Weird suggestion {with photo above and convos}

Weekly outfit photos - whether it's an outfit you're loving, interesting mix, etc.

Maybe post every friday and can be from whenever that week :)
  • We use teams too.  I hate it.  Zoom is way more user friendly.  I got a camera for my desktop but wont instal it until my boss tells me he wants it up.  I don’t see a need for people to see me, with my position in the company.

  • We use Teams and GoToMeeting. I think we are possibly the only organization that uses GoToMeeting, probably because it's cheap. Which also means that it sucks. Luckily most of my clients also have Teams.
  • We used to use Skype too, technically messanger is still active. We were moving to Teams but I think jumped to Zoom and Slack now. I believe Skype is being discontinued by Microsoft which is why people moved to Teams although I don't know when it is officially gone

What!?!  How will I be able to talk to my FIL?  It's the only thing he uses!  Oh, this might have some serious repercussions ... we have a hard enough time getting him up and running on Skype which he is familiar with.  Teaching him a new system .... well, I guess I'll never talk to him again.  The man doesn't even have a phone, and sometimes I suspect he is using a library computer for our video calls.  And we're not planning travel to Estonia anytime soon.

Only Skype for Business is being discontinued. Consumer Skype will remain in place.

Oh, that puts my mind at ease.  Thanks!
