Wedding Woes

Happy Monday!

I had a blast at the wedding on Saturday. Everyone did a great job of wearing their masks, dinner was better spaced out than outdoor dining at a restaurant, and several people told me I looked like Adele (thank you YouTube makeup tutorials!).

    Alright, y'all , apparently we are all posting at 10:04 EST, simultaneously.

    Yay for babysitters, charlotte...

     Fantasy football...I totally should have researched more or engaged more autodraft because, wow, I'm lousy at this :wink:

    I had an adorable time playing with a 3 year old at work yesterday.  He did, however, prove the reason I have to explain to the people who do my bi-weekly covid test "Work requires me to get tested frequently because small children lick things and hand them to me all day"

    Against all good pandemic advice, I got to see my sister who was cross-country on a job thing.  (It was kinda inevitable, she was staying w my parents who are my SUnday childcare, so, one way or another we're all in the same bubble)

    And my area's numbers are up--so I may have convinced the child of mine that we aren't T-or-T ing, I am setting up a scavenger hunt @ our science center that will lead to a treasure trove of candy.  I'm impressed with myself too.  I just finished x-acto knife carving her mask out of craft foam

    How's the rest of the world going (I just finished catching up on like 3 days of threads)?

    I think @short+sassy autodrafted and has been in first place like the entire season. I carefully researched players and I’m having my worst season ever!
  • @STARMOON44 sounds like a great time!

    @GBCK that masks is awesome!

    Ahem. LOL
  • @STARMOON44 whooo what a compliment :) Adele is gorgeous!

    @charlotte989875 I said it before, I'll say it again. America needs at least 1 yr maternity leave.
    There are literally Canadians bitching about 1yr being too short so they adjusted so people can take up to 18m WTF {I didn't but if I had a winter/fall baby I probably would take the 18m to start work in nicer weather lol}

    @GBCK as someone with a toddler, I agree. Toddlers are gross :) My boss has to do bi-weekly covid tests also but she's the person living closest to her grandma in long term care home.

    Weekend was good. I had to drop BK from swimming because her eczema was flairing up. We can't do immediate lotion/aquaphor so I think that is partly reasoning. I'm dropping her swimming and next year we're going to consider gymnastics. {pandemic pending obv}
    We have a talk with her allergist next week about other stuff, so we'll see how it goes.

    This Thursday I have to pick up BK from daycare early, so I asked my mum if she wants to come over for a bit.
    Depending on weather, we may just set the toddler free in a field.

    Speaking of weather, it's half snowing right now. So I need to grab the winter gear. Luckily I went thru BK's winter stuff {hats, boots and mitts} and I'm going to pull her jacket tonight, along with M's and my winter stuff.

    Haha, tied for first. But you actually drafted right? Not auto?
  • Hanging in today. Trying to decide on a career direction.

    Otherwise had a nice weekend.

    So many reasons I’m jealous of Canada. And we’re so close to the border we get all your news so we know exactly what we’re missing out on!

    I think we’ll get snow this week; it’s been in the 40s (< 10C)  but getting much cooler at night. I need to get Baby M a jacket but baby sizing is so weird I have no idea what to get for him.

  • I am not looking forward to some business-related conversations today and it makes me anxious.   I have to remind myself that I'm glad my industry isn't life and death but holy hell it sucks when you need to be the bearer of bad news.

    Friday night DH and I equally slept poorly.  He thinks he has an ulcer so I am working to make food that is better for his gut.   I hate seeing someone I love feel so terrible.

    Other than the stress inducing a bad night of sleep Saturday and Sunday improved.   Chiquita had soccer games both days and they won Saturday and tied Sunday.  Saturday we walked through the corn maze at a local farm (a butterfly! ) and finished the new version of The Witches with Chiquita for bedtime.  Sunday we watched mass, had her game and then headed home for pumpkin carving.

    BTW, if you haven't smelled a pumpkin rotting from the inside I don't recommend it.   SUCH STINK.   The pumpkin could be carved but the guts were NASTY.  The other 3 pumpkins carved had healthy pulp and I have probably a quart of roasted pumpkin seeds for the snacking.  (tip - boil in super salty water for 10 min before roasting!).

    I didn't realize how genuinely shitty American "mat leave" was until I had BK and was in a mom group with largely American women.
    Like M & I were unsure how bedding was going to be {private costs exta, but joint room is covered by insurance} As hospital explained, if they have rooms they will give you private room but charge as shared room because they can.
    I got private room and we kept expecting a letter for payment {it wasn't expensive, but we weren't sure cost per say}

    Then I found out how much in the states even HAVING a baby was. Like wtfffff! Expensive a.f!

    Weird question, does anyone receive monthly amounts regarding having kids?
    Idk how to explain it. We get a monthly amount {income based} and it's suppose to off-set what you pay for the child {daycare, diapers, clothes, etc}
    Tbh I only get $284/m and pay $400 biweekly for daycare but still.
  • That mask is adorable @GBCK. @charlotte989875, that is awesome that your Mom is moving closer to help with childcare. Has that always been the plan? I would love to move closer to DD but H will have nothing of it. Chicago is too expensive compared to Indianapolis.

    Weekend was low key. I honestly have no idea what I accomplished. H was on a Zoom meeting all day Saturday and most of the day Friday. We went to church yesterday. It was our last outdoor service (weather is getting too cold). I don't think I'll be going to indoor service until after Thanksgiving. DS1 and SIL are planning on being here for TG so I don't want to do anything that would discourage them from coming.

    Today I had personal training. Starting to do some standing work. This afternoon I have a stretch session. My back so needs that!

    You have an ability in the US to have an amount taken out of your pacycheck to help defray the cost of childcare but it's supposed to go towards the daycare cost.   I don't believe you can deduct it if you're a SAH parent.  And FWIW for every year we used a daycare we always spent more than we received from the government "credit".  Daycare fulltime for two kids was approximately $360 / week if I recall correctly.  It would be more if both were under 3.

  • It’s crazy windy today. Another two hours of sleep would have been nice but oh well. FSIL and I hiked 19 miles this weekend (over 2 days), so my legs are feeling a little fatigued today. We had a nice weekend overall. We watched Rebecca on Netflix, based off the novel, and they did a good job with it. I’m already looking forward to the weekend (I took Monday off, heh).

    We were supposed to go see FMIL yesterday but they didn’t want us visiting, so that trip was cancelled. I’m a little worried about them all alone up in the mountains. Their house is not accessible in the slightest and I honestly don’t know how they’re going to get her to appointments. It’s one of those mountain homes with a ton of stairs from the street down to the cabin. And they’re super steep. It’s going to start freezing and snowing soon too. None of it is good and I’m worried about FMIL having so much time on her hands.

    Otherwise, SSDD. My manager asked me to come in early today, so here I am.

    Correct I actually drafted. Although with my QB out for the season and another top player out for a while I dont know how I'm still hanging around the top

    We just totaled up our costs; my insurance was billed $87,926.88 and my out of pocket max is $7,000; our responsibility was $5,400.10. And I have
    “good” insurance. We’ve saved almost that much in our HSA (pre-tax account).

    There’s no monthly stipend from the government for costs. You can like Banana said set aside money pre-tax from your paycheck to cover daycare/ childcare but it’s gone through your employer so not available to SAHP. There are tax credits too for parents.

    Funny enough my Dad is not moving with her! They live about an hour and fifteen minutes from us now and we live in an area that gets a ton of lake effect snow in the winter so she doesn’t want to drive every day. So she’s renting a place nearby where she’ll stay during the week and she’ll go back home on the weekends.

    The plan was always for her to watch him most days especially since Covid hit. We just started working out the details in the last few weeks as my return to work got closer. We’re paying all of her utilities but she won’t let us pay more.

    I only paid $250 to have baby B but that is definitely not the norm.

    The US doesn't have subsidized childcare or stipends like that unless you qualify for some lower income programs that will then give waivers to help pay for childcare. You are limited to certain centers that accept those waivers and I think sometimes parents can struggle to find one nearby that accepts it.
  • I both am and am not looking forward to snow.  For some odd reason, the damp fall rains make my house seem colder than when it's snowing.  I do need to get my house ready for my rabbit coming inside for the winter.  It's sort of unfair to the other ones - he is the trouble animal but he gets to skip the winter while they spend it outside.

    I had a nice weekend.  It went by so fast!  I'm trying my hand at faux stained glass, but the paints I'm using are too runny, so I have to rethink things.  And yesterday we had online church and then I visited my parents.

    That’s what I thought!

    In my other league I drafted Dak, then picked up Andy Dalton after he got hurt. I’m trying to pick up Herbert now off waivers. Somehow I’m 4-3 in that one!

    So this monthly amount is GIVEN by the government. You have a kid? You get the money. It's income based so if you're a SAHP you'll get more because it's suppose to off-set the fact your house is getting only one income.
    More kids, more money.

    You can claim daycare on taxes and get a credit with your return. But it has to be split - M claims BK as a dependent because he makes more, I claim daycare amount.

    Yeah I have never had a problem filling out enough claims to max out my dependent care FSA. Even when it was just the one kid, and when the rates went down after she turned 2.
  • I paid $13,000 for DD's birth back in January. And that's with insurance. Plus another $5,000 for her helmet.

    Weekend was good. My inlaws did a lot of baby watching for us so we could run errands and get lunch. Yesterday was house cleaning and laundry. This weekend I may get out the Christmas decorations and start spreading some holiday cheer early because why not?
    Feel free to PM me, because I must have missed it. Why does DD have a helmet?
  • Awesome mask @GBCK, love the pumpkins @CharmedPam and yay for the wedding fun @STARMOON44

    I'm having a rough Fantasy season too.  I auto-drafted, but since McCaffrey went down I've really struggled.  At least I rarely have the "what if my bench scores better than my starters, who should I play?!" to deal with...the bench stinks too.

    Weekend was fun.  The kids had a ball at the backyard Halloween gathering on Saturday.  My nephew's baptism yesterday was really nice.  The ceremony was brief but he was the only baby being baptized so we were all able to spread out in church.  The guests loved the to-go bags.  My kids and nieces took it upon themselves to plan a post-Baptism playdate lol...so my sisters and brother came back to my house afterwards.  I ordered a few pizzas and opened some bottles of wine.  It was in the low 50s and we tried to keep it in the yard, but there was eventually some movement inside with masks.  We're actually starting discussions on comfort levels with indoors, no masks.  Parents and siblings only, the same quarancrew since June.  We'll see.

    When I had G last December, my out of pocket total was $400 ($200 copay for me, $200 copay for him).  My company switched insurance companies as of Jan 2020 and it would have been probably $8000ish if he would have been late.  US healthcare is ridiculous.
