Almost the weekend!

Re: Cuz it's FRIDAY, FRIDAY, FRIDAY

  • @ei34 saw your post about school closures. One county here just announced schools must go virtual by Nov 30. I think some in the county are going as soon as next week whereas others, like my niece's, will be after the Nov 30th deadline.  I understand why but I also feel for parents trying to navigate work and schooling from home if they haven't had to do it. Curious to see what my school system does. They've been in person for elem school for longer than most but hybrid with MS and HS.
  • Fun fact - if you drive an F250 with massive tires and lift kit - then hop curb to when you're 3rd in turn late, I have every reason to assume you have a micro penis.
  • WFH today.  The rare, rare, rarity, lol.  All things still point to just a cold, but HR told me to stay home until I get my COVID test results back.

    You know it's crazy times when I need to consult with HR about a stupid cold, lol.

    It's my half day, so I only have a couple more hours left.  I'm laying low all weekend since I'm sick and don't want to expose other people to my cold.

    Other than that, not much going on with me.  I spoke to a lender yesterday about the refi's I need to get done.  It looks promising.  I actually spoke to this same person last year when I did the original loan.  I had been impressed...wish I'd gone with them, lol...and still am.  He's running my credit today to see what kind of terms he can offer and just solidify they can (probably) do the loan.

    Except it might not be a cold @short+sassy! I hope that it is though!

    Maybe I’m just too frustrated but our positivity rate was 8.16% yesterday. We’re not going to do any indoor Thanksgiving (and I had bought baby M a super adorable first thanksgiving outfit) because of the rise of cases. It just sucks that people are no longer taking it seriously here. NY did so well through the late summer that I’m pissed at everyone who is dropping their guard and doing small parties because they think it’s fine. It’s not fine!!

    Sorry for the rant but it’s getting to me today how selfish people are being about this. We all want this to be over but gathering inside even with people you trust is spreading the virus!

    Thankfully my company announced yesterday we’re WFH until April 5. At least.

  • I'm on the couch watching Grey's.  Hulu's commercials are so damn loud.

    We stayed up to watch the Colts WIN.  It was such a sweet victory after the loss to Baltimore and because all the pregame talking heads were against us.

    Rumor has it we're supposed to get some sort of email from the school district today.  My gut is telling me it's going to some word salad about how they're concerned, but probably not planning to go to virtual or hybrid.

    Tomorrow, we're supposed to go to an outdoor thing for boy scouts and then we'll probably just hang at home.  Sunday, I think DH is going to smoke two pork shoulders.
  • Positivity rate in Iowa where my parents and grandma are is over 22%.  We had plans to see my family last weekend but obviously reconsidered.  H's family is all quarantining fully for 2 weeks before we're getting together for Thanksgiving (7 of us).  No idea what we will do with either family for Christmas because it's not possible for my parents to quarantine bc of their jobs.  Our parents and sisters have all been in our bubble the whole time, but who knows what's going to happen.

    Our company hasn't announced anything about WFH in 2021 but I can't imagine we'll be back in the office anytime soon.

    @short+sassy I hope you feel better soon and your test in negative!

  • On the subject of schools, one of my coworkers has a daughter in HS.  She's doing a hybrid of in-class and virtual.  But they test all the kids for COVID 2x/week!  It also sounded like it was a more instant test, but I may have misunderstood that.

    I can't imagine the expense and hassle that is, but kudos to that school district for keeping people as safe as possible.

    I think IL has a positivity rate of 13 point something.  We’re heading for another lockdown, I’m sure.  Which sucks because I bought a BUNCH of make up and fake lashes and perfume. If that’s the case, I’m getting dolled up for zoom calls then.
    M’s dad is still in the hospital so I doubt I’ll see him this weekend.  Bummer. I have nothing planned, so maybe clean out my guestroom for my bowflex that should be arrriving anytime from now to 2025.
    Edit for meme:  even though I’m buying more make up than usual, doesn’t mean I don’t know how to put it on!

  • We continue to be a WFH and protocols are in place for personnel exposed.   I found out that there is a team member on a ventilator and it's obviously super scary.

    I'm really tired of people trying to find the one quack doctor who deviates from Fauci and other respected epidemiologists to say, "Well not all are agreed on the science."

    No, but the ones that aren't assholes are!
  • @CharmedPam Tooting my own horn, but I've been told my youtube tutorials are easy to follow if you want ideas?

  • I'm making lists of christmas baking, who has a great christmas bark/crack recipe?

    I’ll def look this up! Thanks
    edit, just took a looksie and it looks like you like colour pop!  Just placed an order with them yesterday after
    seeing Bailey’s video with making mauves!!!

  • It'll be nice to have a quiet weekend after an insanely busy week. Had some job interviews but I don't know what will happen next. Probably nothing.
  • At work again today, though I haven't been able to make myself do much of anything yet.  Still radio silence from K.  So, I signed our lease addendum that has been out since Tuesday that will remove them, supposedly by this upcoming Monday.  I've set the appointment for the landlord to change the door code/keys on Monday.  IDK what landlord will do K doesn't sign.  I'll check again to see if K has signed have at noon.  Making other arrangements as well.  I don't want to break up, but I can't just keep sitting in the apartment with all of their stuff and waiting on them to contact me (it's been no contact since Sunday; I don't know where they are at all).  It's a long story and there's many levels that I just don't want to get into.  I'm keeping the apartment.

    I don't have any plans for the weekend.  I don't even know what covid is doing here.  One of my BFFs wanted to come into town for the weekend to just be with me, but they're going on some trip with their father (I'm floored it's still happening) and so doesn't want to break quarantine.  I haven't been doing much on the weekends anyway recently, so no big change.  I'll just keep cleaning and separating, I guess.

    Sorry, I'm definitely an eeyore.
  • I'm making lists of christmas baking, who has a great christmas bark/crack recipe?
    https://shewearsmanyhats.com/dark-chocolate-toasted-almond-bark-recipe/

    one of my faves - I make it every year!  It's a pretty good dupe of Trader Joes Salted almond bark thins.  I usually used salted almond (bc salty chocolate is my fave).  It calls for sliced almonds, but I use whatever I have and just chop or use the food processor a bit if necessary.
  • DD got tested yesterday because she had the sniffles (she had constant sniffles and bloody noses when pregnant before). It came back negative today - thank goodness. Their nanny is exhibiting symptoms now so she will get tested. Ugh! I feel for the people who can't afford testing just anywhere. We paid out of pocket yesterday because all the places that accepted insurance were booked.

    I'm not sure how Thanksgiving will shake out. DS2 will definitely be here since he has lived on and off with us during quarantine and doesn't see anyone when he isn't here. DD and her family have been in our bubble too but who knows. DS1 & DIL were still planning on being here as of yesterday morning but that could change. They don't go out either since they are WFH and are extremely cautious. I'm planning on them all being here but will understand if only DS2 actually come.

    Good vibes to all who have had to be tested. Prayers for negative results!

    He didn't explicitly say so, but I think my boss was leaning toward wanting me to come into the office today.  But he threw the question to HR and they told me to WFH.  I'm really glad about that.  I'm feeling marginally better today and would have gone in if they told me to.  But I would have felt like a real AH because I'm coughing and obviously sick.  I know everyone is tense about COVID and rightly so and I'd hate to add to that anxiety.

    Anything is possible which is why I am being extra careful.  I haven't left the house in the last three days, except to go get the drive-thru COVID test on Wed.  But I'm also 99.99% sure it's a cold.  This is my annual playbook for when the weather changes but my work place leaves the a/c on for weeks too long.

    It's such a difference in how my company has handled things versus so many others on the subject of WFH.  I've been pleasantly surprised there hasn't been an outbreak at my work!  Especially since they had us come back in mid-May.  There are about 100 of us on my floor.  All my coworkers wear masks when they are in common areas, even though we aren't required to (eyeroll).  Not a doubt in my mind that mask wearing has been the biggest factor that has kept people safe.  There's my anecdotal evidence on the importance of wearing a mask around those who are not in your bubble.

    Though I think here in NOLA, most people in office jobs have come back to work by now.  Downtown traffic is almost back to pre-pandemic levels.  But, overall, our infection and hospitalization rates have been going down.  I know that isn't true in most of the country and keep waiting for the other shoe to drop.

    Speaking of people being selfish and reckless, there was a big incident last weekend and our mayor is incensed.  Some religious group wanted to have a big musical festival and applied for a permit.  They were denied because...yeah...no outdoor events with more than 100 people allowed.  They came into town and threw their event anyway in a public area of the French Quarter.  The mayor is trying to hunt down the organizers and file charges against them.

    No way!  I didn't know it was like that in other places, smh.  In my area, there are a bunch of test sites open every day.  Most of them drive-thru.  Tests are free.  Anyone can have one, symptoms or not.  No appointment needed and they don't even ask for insurance info.

    Costco sent me an e-mail that they are selling at-home, self administered COVID tests now.  But they are $125!

    They are tons of free testing sites here in NY, too. CVS is free with insurance and our county sites are all free too. They just changed the county criteria such that anyone, regardless of symptoms or potential exposure can get tested for free.
  • I'm dragging today. BIL got in town last night and we wound up sitting out on the deck far too late. And I have go get my IUD replaced. It's a Friday the 13th for me.

    Looking forward the weekend, though. We'll probably do a hike with the pup, write some postcards, and do a fire. I'm really excited to do nothing for a while.

    My office announced WFH at least until 3/31 this week, H's to June. We both got sent home in mid-March, so we will be home for at least a year.

    This is us, too. We were sent home early March. Weird to think it will be more than a year without being in the office.

    Good luck with the IUD that’s never a fun way to spend the day.

    All of this sucks. I’m really sorry it’s happening.

    All the good vibes that they sign the addendum and things go easily from here on out. Definitely don’t share if you don’t want to, but is their family any help with getting this settled?
  • @MyNameIsNot, I went last Friday to get an UID put in (first time), but the pain was so horrible I told him to stop! Didn’t want it (this wasn’t even at the IUD insertion part yet!).  This won’t happen to you. He blamed me for being fat. He said me cervex was so narrow, because of my weight.  FU very much.  I might just find a new gyn.  How thin do you have to be?!?
    anyway I’m going back on the pill.

  • @VarunaTT sending virtual hugs

    @short+sassy healthy vibes!

    @kvruns the district we live in is like yours (elementary in person, MS and HS remote).

    The district I work in, all three schools are in-person, which I prefer (I’m at a HS).  A good 80% of my learners have special needs- some academic, some emotional- and things felt pretty fruitless in the spring, so I’m trying to soak up all the in-person goodness now.  To be fair our positivity rate is over 3%, which is higher than it had been over the summer, so I agree with the fact that there are talks about going remote.  I think I’m frustrated that restaurants, bars, gyms, malls, hair/nail salons (places I haven’t gone to since the pandemic began) are currently business as usual and schools are part of the “time to go remote” conversation.  And frustrated that my kids’ and my district have had a total combined positive case count of two.  And frustrated that my family and I are taking every precaution we can (I think I mentioned the masking indoors) and I feel like it’s for nothing.  Which of course isn’t the case, we’re all still healthy, which is the most important thing.  But...just frustrated.  Sorry for such a grouchy post everyone 😳
  • Making mauves but I also did a create your own since I wanted free shipping. Added a lot of glitters. Whites/lights and oranges actually since I’ve been switching my fave color to orange.
    Post the palette when you can!
    I have a gel glitter idk what I'm gonna use for but I LOVE their forth ray skin care stuff! Their BFD oil cleanser I never thought I'd love but it's great when taking off makeup
    And fuck, their prices!? Gimmmeeeeee

    eye gel:
    https://colourpop.com/products/moonlight-legend-pink-glitter-gel
    {i got both cuz I got whole set but I think lighter one I may use more?}

    BFD:

    {tbh I got the duo and enjoy the cleanser but not over the top love}
  • @CharmedPam definitely get a new gyn that's bullshit

    @ILoveBeachMusic were the state run testing sites booked? It is so confusing figuring out where people can go and which ones need a referral or not, what is free, etc.
  • So we're working on kitchen stuff and tbh this isn't completely sold {I might find something else when I actually decide lol}

    BUT! What appeals visually to you more - these are for sugar, oats, etc. Mostly will be in cupboard but we're not entirely sold on not having glass {even frosted} doors where these would be
