Wedding Woes

Tuesday

Sending vibes on what I know is everyone's tough day!
Oldest DD is home from school awaiting Covid results.  She got sent home yesterday after saying her throat hurt, and a note saying a sore throat is s symptom and she can't return without a negative PCR test.  No fever, no other symptoms.  The pediatrician said her throat looked absolutely fine and asked her to describe the pain.  "It was snack time and one of my pretzels scratched my throat...it hasn't hurt since then."  Ugh.  Good news is because she's asymptomatic and hasn't had any high risk contacts she can go back as soon as the negative comes, and her siblings can still be in school. I'm in person at a school with over 1,000 people each day, and I'm all for being aware of symptoms and safety first and the like, but...a pretzel  :| oh well..

Re: Tuesday

  • Ugh @ei34 I’m all for being cautious but that seems extreme, and not using common sense.

Long day here, my team is frustrated with each other over a big project and I just don’t have the patience to moderate that from adults today.
  • Yeah that's frustrating.  I get that we need to be cautious but the school needs to ask "Did you do anything before it started hurting?"

So, who has two thumbs and set her pizza box on fire last night?  This gal!

  • So idk if I mentioned yesterday, but BK had another sesame level up.
Went well :) She's now on 1/8th of a muffin
Next month is 1/4th of muffin

February is homemade hummus - which M & I are notably nervous because that caused all this. We keep reminding ourselves this isn't store bought and we control the tahini.

But M is going to ask if it's worth retesting her - to be sure she's still going to react. It could have been a fluke and her test was so close, her body could have still been trying to deal.
Idk. It's weird. We have this weird gut feeling that they could retest and it comes back negative.
I mean if it's positive, then at least we aren't doing this for basically nothing.

How?  Too close to the stove?

  • @ei34 that stinks, I hope she can return soon. i know some daycares are making kids stay home if they have a runny nose - I really hope mine doesn't do that bc let's face it kids have those all year long.

@banana468 how did you set it on fire??
  • MIL and niece are still here. Niece is getting restless and destructive and my house is not child proof. Any ideas for indoor activities that can occupy a 4 year old but aren't a huge mess? I can run out at lunch and get supplies. MIL is supposed to be taking care of her, but she seems to be under the impression that a 4 year old wants to sit quietly and color for 8 hours a day.

Otherwise, just another Tuesday here. Blah.

Would MIL bake with her? My niece loves to help measure & pour ingredients. She’s also into doing puppet shows and throwing sticks down a hill.
  • @MyNameIsNot I vote baking and decorating.   Can you get icing tubes for cookies and let her have at it?

We got take out from Costco.  I normally put the pizza in the oven so it stays warm.  The Costco box is huge and had to go on the bottom shelf.   Well, it was super oily and I forgot to turn on the oven so the portion with no pizza started to smoke and ignited.  I singed hair, and DH had to pour water on it on the outside glass table.   It was one of my more colossal f*ck ups.
  • I'm glad you're okay @banana468.

The day is off to a quiet start. Hoping it stays that way or gets better.

Thanks!  Ego is bruised and the house has lost the pine smell but we're OK.
  • I'm finally moving to my new cube sometime this week ((dance, dance -- dance, dance)).  Still a cube, but in a corner so there are two real walls.  There are also a lot fewer people in this room then the one I am currently in so, relatively speaking, "safer" in our pandemic times.  A rare appearance has just been made by one of my least favorite people at the office.  Reminding me of another perk.  I will be nowhere near her office anymore, lol.  I lucked out with her, though.  During the WFH time, (I guess) the client worked something out with my company and she was made an offer to jump ship to them.  She did, so she has been WFH this whole time and I haven't had to deal with her at all.

Yet another s**tshow with hardly anyone coming to our showings last night, smh.  We had three definetes and a few that said they were going to come by.  Only one person actually showed up.  But she turned in an application and I liked her.  She seems really motivated.

Even better, in the meantime, I got the references done for a couple who came on Saturday.  I just got off the phone, they still want the place, and I'll be picking up the deposit tonight!  Woo hoo!  I was so nervous because there was so little interest compared to usual and we've only had three showings.  But it only takes one with (hopefully) the right people!

    Time to buy a candle!
  • I guess he can’t be called kiddo anymore @mrsconn23! Kidding kidding. He’ll always be a kid.
yikes @banana468.  If it makes you feel any better, I can imagine doing that too!
Dance party with @short+sassy’s new cube!

Last night was crazy.  I came home to a cabinet delivery.  I expected it on Friday, so was goinf to wfh then. Imagine my surprise when I saw all of them in my driveway when I got home.  I tried to move one, couldn’t.  Cried.  Got overwhelmed and texted the guy who co-runs my virtual infidelity meetings with me.  Told him I had to cancel or he could run it becuase I was on my way to home depot to get a dolly.  He called me back right away, said he had a dolly and could be there in 1/2.  And he was!  Omg he was SUCH a big help!  I gave him $40 and thanked him profusely. He’s also the friend who got me through my divorce. Really good friend.

Then my neice called me.  She’s 8.  She’s having trouble at school with bullies and not just one.  She’s getting Counceling for it, but not till January! She said she had no friends anymore and hated being 8, and wanted to be 5 again.  I told her all the great things about being 8, which helped I guess?  Any advise?
Has the school be able to do anything until she gets counseling? You could offer to be an ear until she can see the counselor {if you're up for it} but explaining to her that you may not have advice.

    Poor kid :(

Yeah that’s what my sister was doing. Facetiming us because (me, my cousin, etc) we’ve all been through it.  This IS the school’s solution.  The councelor is from the school. I guess they don’t want to start anything before winter break?

WTF?  That's not a solution for a kid that needs help now. Are they in school in person or virtual? Is it one person or several?  Are they all in her class?  Because if they're all in the same class, this is a classroom control issue. And yes, I get being a teacher is hard enough, and the pandemic, and the sad state of our education, and they can't do everything, and...and...and..., but there are better ways to address this and if an 8 year old is feeling this way consistently, something needs to done swiftly.
  • In my house hunt - even though we are reno'ing the kitchen and not moving lol

This is actually further into the area than I'd like - for reference on the map, this is Emerald Meadows. I live a bit more north-east ish in Glen Cairn

Dislike - no real place for dining room
  • Wth @CharmedPam why isn’t the school doing something until January?! That’s awful, your poor niece.  It’s great that she has you, the more adults she can talk to the better.  Does the school know who the bullies are? Is it the kids in her class? If so the counselor can of course help your niece with positive self esteem but hoping that classroom teacher would also encourage inclusivity and kindness in the classroom

@short+sassy yay for the new cubicle!

@MyNameIsNot if you’re near a craft store, I’d pick up those colorful dot stickers (if you get them I have a few different fun indoor activities), construction paper to make paper chains, she can take popsicle baths, and if your niece has any little hard toys or figures with her (ex My Little Ponies) she can do a “My Little Pony rescue” if you add the toys to a big tub or bin filled with uncooked rice.  She can fish them out with tongs.   If you have corn starch at home, my kids love making oobleck.  It’s just two parts corn starch to one part water.  If you dilute some food coloring it won’t stain, you could add that in.  Is your niece able to play outside? If so I’d try to get a few hours out of that too.
  • that breaks my heart @CharmedPam

    Those floors!  And so bright!!

  • @CharmedPam that's so sad.    I hope the schools at minimum can work on the bullying situation and at least have her talk to the teachers even if a psychologist or social worker isn't available.

Another idea @MyNameIsNot: Gingerbread houses.  They will be sticky but you can often either find a pre-made one that you put candies on or make the panels and then load up with the royal icing and tons of candies to glue on.

@MissKittyDanger I'm going to diffuse some oil.  We do have several Yankee Candle scents too that work well but first I need to sweep the inside of my oven.   DH is super scentsitive (pun intended) and after a while complains of candles or the diffuser.  I swept the oven and now have a mix of cinnamon bark and northern lights black spruce going in the kitchen while he works in the basement.
  • @kerbohl right!?

@banana468 oh good :) I've never tried but apparent cinnamon and orange peels boiling smells like xmas
  • @CharmedPam, that sucks. The school expects your niece to just put up with being bullied until January? And it's not going to do anything else?  :#
  • Pam - Poor niece.

ei - Hope you get the results quickly for DD!  My DD likes to fake cough, since coughing gets attention, so I've had to talk about why fake coughing is bad!

Work is busy but manageable.  H took DD to the pedi so we could get another albuterol prescription.  The Dr also prescribed Nasonex, which my insurance decided it won't cover!  WTH?  That's like the most common nose spray!  So even though I picked up the albuterol, I will still have to go back for whatever nose spray they use to replace it.  Thanks for not telling me all my prescriptions weren't ready Rite Aid!

    Not much else today.
  • @OliveOilsMom I missed it, why nasal spray? If it's congestion {idk about sinus infect} but they have a kids version of HydraSense - I just started using it and it's really good. {it's saline & salt in a spray and over the counter}
  • I'm really slow this week at work, which is great.  Give H more time to work and I can squeeze in occasional naps with the babe is napping.  I had been starting to feel a little better re: nausea and headaches, but it's back bigtime today.  And I'm freezing.  I keep taking my temp and monitoring for any symptoms that I could be mistakenly attributing to pregnancy but, so far, nothing.  Hoping it's just the newest babe getting settled and i'll feel back to normal in couple weeks (that's what happened with #1 so i'm hopeful!)

@ei34 Hope you get results soon!!
    @short+sassy enjoy your new cube!
@banana468 this is one of my biggest fears with my my gas range!!!!!  Glad it was just your pride that was ruined.

I had the worst sinus infection the first few weeks when I was pregnant and it’s sucks because there’s not much you can take. This year that’s got to be a whole new level of fear there. Hoping everything is just fine!
