Weekend was a nice mix of scratching off to-do list items and family time.  Yesterday evening we did a Holiday Lights walk through our local botanic garden.  There’s a sizable blizzard heading our way Wednesday and the buzz in the faculty room earlier was “will we have a snow day or go remote?” Lol

    I'm ready to power through the last 5 day work week of the year. We had a good weekend. Saturday I took niece to this nature center park that's like 2 miles to my house but I've never been to. It was very cool, and both niece and the dog were worn out. That meant I got to do all our holiday cards during nap time. SIL and BIL returned in the evening and picked up niece, so yesterday was putting the house back together. We also got to go for a long walk and take the dog for a play date with the neighbor's dog. I'm trying to figure out how to become friends with this set of neighbors, but I'm terrible at this stuff.
    The thing right now with my kids is that if they have a snow day and I WFH, their snow days are going to be TV days.   I'll take one of my breaks from my desk to dress them up so they can run outside for 15 minutes to come in when the snow is at my son's butt crack and in between my daughter's toes and they're too cold. 

    And they get 3 before June hits and there are days tacked onto the end of the year and then we say, "Wow the beach down the road or the marina picnic table would be great to work from but the kids are still remote learning or in school so we need to keep up this routine for a few more days." 

    As kids get older it's a bit easier but at the young age it's loses a bit of its mamgic. 

    Last 5 day work week here too!  DH has no more 8 hour days and I may add a day off here and there.

    Happy Monday! Super tired here, B is back to waking up super early to potty. So after about 5am I can't sleep as I'm subconciously listening for him to wake up and yell for me. Starbucks  was out of cold brew so she said I should get an iced americano as it is basically the same thing. Uhhh no, definitely more coffee taste than I like! 

    Have a bunch of work to get done. We are presenting a webinar Thursday and the slides are no where close to being started. My boss was out on PTO last week and I got too busy to start them so it will be a rush. Still not sure why we're having this webinar anyway when it's a week before Christmas and no one will want to attend.

    @charlotte989875 some point yes, soon, no. Well truthfully it depends on the kid. Fingers crossed you have a unicorn who figures it out soon!

    I've heard that too but no official thing with us here yet - we actually have zero snow right now.
    We'll see what happens though. Things could change in a couple year when BK goes to school

    Yup.   This. 

    The sleep part was probably my least favorite part of having a baby - 1.5 yr old.  Chiquita's teething was on another level.

    Leap or just regression? We had a fucking hell of a time with leaps over regressions. And teeth - minus the 2yr old molars that we've done really well with.

    Best suggestion, try to speed up bed time. We found when BK was having a rough time, speeding up routine - maybe ensuring there's a bath for calming purposes or burning extra energy.

    It ends eventually though. Hopefully something helps you all settle <3

    M's parents are self isolating until xmas so M's grampa feels safe to do xmas with them. Since that's just over 2 weeks away, we went to visit so they could see BK - and we get free dinner *grin*
    BK ended up being sFIL's shadow - which cracked me up because he was trying to clean up stuff, and she'd play and he'd bring stuff upstairs. 2min later, BK was following him up lol
    We said we could come grab her, but he was fine with her following him. They have carpeted stairs so idc. Our stairs are hardwood, so we don't let her follow us if we don't have to.

    Her sentence structure has exploded recently. I know her verbals are a tad ahead because of daycare. She may be solo no, but until September she had 2 older girls so learning to speak she ended up being a tad advanced.

    Sunday we did Santa photos. BK basically acted like she would have without plexiglas - which is stare and wave but not say a friggen word.
    Except at the beginning when they took her temp, she surprised the lady by saying "temp-a-tuh" {temperature - she can't say R still}
    The lady joked that BK is very unassuming because she looks young but can say big words.

    BK is starting to have another eczema flair up, so we had to steroid this morning. It's not super bad, I think the aquaphor has kept it at a lower amount but her ankle got bad really quick.


    Tonight is portabello wellington. I'm kinda excited.
    We had the maple sweet potato last night and M was really into it. BK was not so much, but I think it was a tad hot when she tried and then just didn't wanna do it again.

    It is weird to sit in an apartment with someone, masked and at other ends of the couches (I have 2 queen size couches in an L shape, so they were at one end and me at the other, so it was probably like 15 feet between us), but it's still nice to see someone in 3D.  

    Sadly, with the way things are going in MO, most of us are just waiting to catch it.  I feel like it's unavoidable at this point, I just hope I don't end up really sick.
    Seeing people IRL is important! The masks and distancing is definitely weird but I think it makes a huge difference to actually see people in person every once in a while.

    What’s the difference between a leap and a regression? He is basically getting up every hour.

    What’s the difference between a leap and a regression? He is basically getting up every hour. 
    Generally speaking and short answer, development.

    The Wonder Weeks are great to figure out what's up and give you heads up when leaps are coming. It's not the be all, end all but it's a good reference point. BK was pretty on with the leaps but the sunny vs cloudy days, not so much.

    I remember December for us was shit. BK turned 6m at end of November and it wasn't until end of month I had realized all these new abilities she had.
    - sit up
    - crawl
    - pull to stand
    - holding steps
    - 2 teeth

    I am supposed to see my gyn on Thurs and am waiting for the office to cancel my appointment.  I anticipate a complete chaos.

    PSA - Old Navy has sales!

    I'm probably not buying anything, but over the holidays, since BK, M and I are off {TOGETHER FOR THE FIRST TIME!} I'm gonna take advantage and sort thru BK's clothes.

    We have a box in our closet of clothes that are big - coats, boots, etc - because I got handed BAGS of stuff from people.
    I'm gonna resort, and maybe have BK try stuff on to see if worth keeping or just donate.

    I think some tops I may just toss into donation depending on size. Pants I'm keeping because once she trains, idk what her pant size will be. She can easily fit 18m and depending on pant 12m - but those are what I'm anticipating her to wear post potty training.

    When are we training? No clue.

    is he old enough to sleep train yet? IF you're into doing that - some peopel aren't and that's totally ok. 

     Our guy had a short sleep regression around 4 months and then again from about 6-8 when we finally got serious about sleep training.  It was pretty mild, we essentially just stopped feeding him in the middle of night and would just get up with him to snuggle.  After about a week he stopped waking up in the night. 

    My only regret is that we didn't get serious about doing that sooner (we would have if we weren't both still working from home).

    sleep is so hard  Hell, it's hard as an adult, it's always been hard for my kid.
    (Who literally had a meltdown this morning because she didn't feel rested and doesn't remember sleeping.  Her day has improved since then--although she is having a major eczema flare and the pediatric derm has a 3 week wait.)

    I let my parents come over, masked, for a wee bit this weekend.
    Their safety is one of the reasons we cancelled thanksgiving, so know what they were doing before they came over?  Bell ringing for the salvation army.
    Because, sure, elderly immunocompromised people should definitely be doing that. (I am so tired about caring for people more than they care for themselves)

    The kiddo's regular speech therapist is back from maternity leave, so that will be good (the sub is great--but the long history and relationship is important when you're trying to force hard things.)
    AND she has a dentist appt.

    AND, Toms of Maine CHANGED THE FORMULA to her toothpaste.  I know this should be NBD, but, do you know how many types of toothpaste we tried before we found one that didn't 'burn' her mouth? at least 8.  Sensory issues are hell, and now I have 3 tubes (amazon auto delivery) of stuff that tastes like strawberry vomit (FTR, she's right, the old formula tasted awful to me. the new one is gaggy horrid)
    I put the 2 unopened tubs to go to the food bank, tossed the other new one, and we went through various sample tubes (this is why I have them) and found one that's tolerable, and then got the LAST tube of it at Meijer.
    So, yeah, mint toothpaste still tastes like burning, strawberry tastes like vomit, and 'sparklefun' flavor (really crest?) is...tolerable.
    ^This is way more stress than I should have to have about toothpaste.

    Weekend was ok.  Saturday was nice and relaxing and we just hung out and played all day.  After babe went to bed H and i got into a huge fight.  Yesterday was rough, but we seemed to work everything out last night and will be ok.  Just never a fun end to a really nice day.

    Charlotte - Does he sleep all day mostly?  If he has his days and nights mixed up, that could be the cause too.  We spent one miserable weekend getting DD to stay up all day, so that she would sleep at night. But after that, she was good at sleeping overnight.  Any sleep regression would last about a week or so.  She also preferred (and still does!) to sleep on her belly.  She started rolling herself super early and found her this way frequently!

    We had a good weekend.  There is a potential buyer for my parents house and I'm keeping everything crossed it will work out for them!  We got a bunch done around our house this weekend too.  We got our next piece of countertop finished and installed.  Just the big one, that will need to be mitered together at the corner.  We also got to clean up the dining room which had become a dumping ground over the last 6 months.  Only thing on there now, are presents that need wrapping.  I still need to organize all of the stuff I have scattered around the house for donation.

    I also just ordered some crab cakes and crab dip from Jimmy's Seafood in MD for Christmas Eve dinner.  Yummmmmmm!

    This is our babe 100%.  He did not sleep well at all, ever, until he could roll over at like 2.5 months and he has slept on his tummy every single day since. It was terrifying at first!

    What are you using?
    We have a flair up and yes we have to go back to the steroid we got the script for BUT aquaphor helped keep it at bay mixed with Aveeno Eczema night balm until we did.

    Poor bub. Flair ups are hard :(

    Weekend was good. Last week was absolute hell at work. Finished with me getting yelled at by a patient for thirty-five minutes because of things that were out of my control. All because I wanted to be a good person and let people know their results ASAP so they didn’t have to worry over the weekend. No good deed and all of that. Now I have to explain to my manager why I got an hour of overtime on Friday. 

    FSIL and I hiked ten miles on Saturday. Then we finished up some errands and had a fun dinner. My gingerbread cookies were delicious and we plowed through them. At one point I looked over at FBIL and he was covered in a red rash. He’d eaten like ten cookies. “I just remembered I’m allergic to molasses.” So maybe stop eating them? Lol. We did a nice walk on Sunday finished with watching Home Alone and another walk around the neighborhood to look at Christmas lights. 

    Of course this week started off well with a road closure on my work so I had to go the extra long way through two different mountain passes. We have another positive at work. Three more and they have to close our location for two weeks. I don’t know what that would mean for pay, if they would furlough us for two weeks or if we would be sent home with pay. I have strong suspicions it would be on our own dime though. Ugh.

    @CharmedPam, I'm so glad to read that things are back "on" for yourself and M.  Sometimes we all just need a good hashing out and getting back on the same page.

    @GBCK, I hope you all find a better toothpaste.  I know you have mentioned your daughter's sensory issues before.  I still appreciate the help it was to me when I started having sensory problems with my hearing a couple years ago.  You told me how you and your daughter handle it.  I could hardly find anything online that even described what it was like.  It was nice to have a reality check that it is a thing and it's not just my imagination!

    From what I now understand, it is my brain sometimes not processing sound correctly and there aren't any easy solutions for it.  Fortunately, the problem has waned again and I haven't had any episodes for about a year.  Some of that has been because I have noise blocking headphones...like the kind you see at construction sites...at both my work and at home.  As soon as I hear a continuing sound that I know can trigger it, I put those headphones on and its crisis averted.  Because, once it's triggered, my hearing becomes extra sensitive for a few weeks.

    I was so mad this morning!  I JUST put in one of the sensor for my continuous glucometer (CGM) yesterday.  They are 40 bucks each and only last for 2 weeks.  I was finishing moving the last few items from my old cube.  I bent down to get a binder from the floor and accidentally rubbed my sensor against a table.  It was the smallest movement!  I hardly rubbed it against the table at all!  But it almost totally ripped that stupid thing from my arm.  At first, it was still in my arm and working.  I tried duct-taping it down to secure it better.  But, the next time I tried to take a reading, it showed the sensor wasn't working anymore.  Plus, now my arm is so sore and painful.

    I really like the CGMs.  I like them so much and they really improve my blood sugar numbers.  But, at the same time, I'm just not sure I can deal with them anymore.  I'm not sure what to do.  I am going to call the company again and see if they can do something for me, but they were really unhelpful this morning, when I was calling in with my crisis. This was the 5th sensor I've used and the third one I had a problem with!  My last sensor randomly stopped working FIVE days early.  I just can't be wasting that kind of money on sensors that are dysfunctional half the time and are so effing fragile they can be pulled out so easily.

    On the plus side.  And this is a major plus.  My new cube is AWWEESOMMEEE!!!  Once I finally got settled in after being so PO'ed from the sensor, I felt relaxed and happy in my new spot.  It is so much more private.  Nobody walks past me anymore.

    Yeah, I think Thursday is going to be nuts. The first big storm of this season and we're getting a foot..lol.

    Weekend was good.  

    We did the winterlights, which were so fun.  DH and I are probably going to become members of the art museum, which is something we've talked about on and off the last couple years. 

    Saturday, the kiddo and his gf came to hang with DefConn.  DH and I went and got some shopping done.  Our white elephant with DH's family is to buy locally only.  We found an amazing, affordable custom sign shop about 15 min from our house.  We got some really fun stuff for gifts.  

    Sunday, I wrapped and baked all day.  My office is a Christmas explosion.  I had to create a path to my desk, LOL.
