Blizzard-prep Wednesday

The hatches have been battened down and the panic trip to the grocery store for comfort food has been made.  The buzz at my district and the kids’ is snow day tomorrow and not remote learning.
Wishing everyone in the snow’s path safety, and a healthy day to all.

We're also in "snow day and not remote learning" prep.

I may force Chiquito to do work.  The evil mom in me thinks that a snow day Thursday and no work at home is going to lead to lazy Fridayitis and that's good for NO ONE.

  • We are, surprisingly, not expected to get much snow at all. Bummer because I love the big fluffy snow

We had a software update last night and now all of our Microsoft apps (Outlook, Teams) are lagging and slow. It’s making everything take SO MUCH longer than necessary. I don’t understand why these are scheduled in the middle of the work week (note this wasn’t an emergency update it was a scheduled upgrade). Outlook has just crashed multiple times today. Who needs email, right?
  • Stay warm, dry and safe!

Lots of stuff going on today where I am. Just sleepy - for whatever reason I keep waking up in the middle of the night and then am not able to fall back asleep.
  • Good Luck to those in the Nor’easter storm.  Probably wont make much a difference if you’re all in lockdown anyway, right?

Annoying coworker is back from her WFH leave/vacation. Her husband got covid a week before Halloween so she couldn’t come back in until he tested negative (she never got it).  It took over a month and a half! It was the best month and a half of my life and I should have appreciated it more.  She complains so much, is loud on the phone and had her volume on her computer so I hear the chime every time an email comes in.  And that’s more than 1 x a minute.

  • I don't think we are getting a lot of snow here.  Which is fine, I guess ... I was hoping to go see Christmas lights in a park this weekend, and it is nicer with snow, but it doesn't look like we'll have enough snow to make it worthwhile.
It looks like a Zoom Christmas for my side of the family.  We were hoping we could do something, but it looks like it's a no.  It sucks - the plan was to isolate beforehand, but I guess it's not necessary anymore.  Except ... I don't think I'm  going out before Christmas anyways.  Aside from a quick errand to run on Saturday.

  • We are in the line of the snow storm too, but we are currently sitting in the 3-6 inch range and rain/snow mix.  So who knows what will end up after the storm is done.  I hate the rain/snow mix though because it much easier turns to ice.  I wish we just got a straight up snow storm!

I have a 5:30 happy hour zoom today with my department at work.  My fellow paralegals and I already have drinking game set up for when the boss mentions former co-workers!  I think I will bake off my sugar cookies that have been rolled up and sitting in the fridge since Sunday night.  My cranberry shandy beer and sugar cookies sounds delicious!

I also did my grocery run after dropping DD off at daycare.  It was the first day of the sale on standing rib roasts, but I wasn't sure if the store would be extra crazy with people buying all the bread and milk.  The parking lot was empty-ish, so I took the chance to get my shopping done.  It worked out!

He seems pretty nonchalant. I'm not sure he realizes how much he can't see? I think the hardest part is going to be me trying to monitor his tablet time when he's home over break.  I think he's going to have to put it up often.
  • We aren't getting snow until next week, but currently in a cold snap so I've pulled BK's fleecy sweaters out. I'm hoping to try a fleecy sleeper tonight. She doesn't often keep her pj's on but they're soft and warm so I'm hopeful.

Our master bedroom is cold a.f. We don't have a curtain but idk if that's the issue. We're putting one up this weekend but also plastic wrapping the edges. I may call our condo corp and see if it's a them issue because I actually think it's a sealing problem.
I'm gonna have M look into it also.

I swear it feels like I may never get caught up with laundry lol! I got like 3 bags of clothes my boss was gonna donate. I've been washing them since idk how long they've been in a bag for. I'm not washing any spring/summer stuff because I'm not gonna wear it anytime soon.
Definitely some cute stuff, but I definitely need to go through my tops now. I also grabbed a couple things I know my mum would like, so yay :)

Saves me money from shopping ;)
  • I'm going to live vicariously through you all today.

I want to be hanging out on a beach in a foreign country, like @missJeanLouise.

While also shoring up on wine and snacks, as if a blizzard is coming, lol.

  • MrsConn - Glad DefConn has a good outlook on the patch.  My friend's daughter needed one for a bit and all worked out well.  Hoping the same for DefConn!

MJL - DS is so adorable in those pics!

S+S - That is laughable about the tenant!
  • @short+sassy you can come visit anytime. Just don't expect it to be convenient, lol.

@OliveOilsMom Thank you. He is such a good boy. We really lucked out. ♥️
  • @short+sassy  dogs are easy to watch about that than cats, BUT if it seems to be a fiber issue ask about Royal Canin - we were suggested this, and apparently their fiber one has shown really good results for helping without needing meds
  • @short+sassy Do you have any slippery elm?  I used that for my dog to help her digestive system when she was super sick last year.  Worked really nicely.

  • Add me to the list of people who won't be getting snow. Instead, it's cold and rainy here. I did get a case of wine over the weekend, so I'm also hunkered down. At least we have plenty of fire wood.

Work is super weird right now. We're starting to hear about different people and groups being impacted or realigned. The mood is sour. I need to fast forward to the weekend.

@short+sassy, One of my coworkers had to take his pup in for emergency surgery this morning because he ate a roll of gauze and it caused an obstruction. They found it due to lack of pooping. Could Izzy have gotten into anything cotton or fluffy lately?

I kept wondering where Prudie was today.....even though the post clearly says WEDNESDAY *eye roll*
I've had to relook at the date 3x today

Thanks for the recommendation!  My H and I were talking this morning if it might be time to change her food, to something with more fiber.  She's starting to get up there in age, about 9 years old.

@kerbohl, I'm not familiar with slippery elm, but looked it up.  Sounds interesting!  I'll have to see if I can find some locally.  I was going to pick up canned pumpkin on my home.  That came up in an internet search yesterday.  With the warning of "not the stuff you use for pies", with all the sugar and spices added, lol.  The plain pumpkin.

@MyNameIsNot, Izzy is a really good dog about not getting into stuff and eating non-edible things.  We also didn't see any evidence of that.  I hope your coworker's pup is okay!  Eating a whole thing of gauze sounds extra bad!

Ironically, our cat is the "chewer".  She doesn't actually eat non-edible items.  But there is no telling what will catch her fancy to chew on and sometimes those items are things that can be chewed through and a piece(s) accidentally swallowed.  We haven't had a medical emergency with her yet, but we worry.  Her favorite is the ends of tape that are on boxes.  Possibly because she also loves boxes, lol.  Her favorite activity is to jump into a newly arrived box.  Smack at the box flaps.  Pry up some tape with her paw and then chew it.  You'd think she would hate the sticky part of tape on her mouth!  But no, she can't resist the tape.

One of her favorite perches is the seat on my exercise bike.  Sometimes when she is sitting up there, she will lean over and start gnawing the cushiony part of the side handle bars.

Sounds like maple could be teething.
    Penny went through that {except she chewed things she shouldn't - like a phone cord}
We discovered the tub stopper. She could chew all she wanted and it fit her mouth well. No issues!
  • I'm so done with this week!

I don't think we're in any sort of snow storm mode.  We had a light dusting of maybe an inch in town; I think other places had a bit more.  The ice is the main problem.

Otherwise, SSDD.  Everyone stay warm and fed!

I've logged in the last few days and somehow ran out of time to post.  I legit sleep in daily and don't have a job, so I have no idea what's monopolizing my days LOL.

It's snowing here - but I don't even know that we're on the 3" map at the end of this.  Either way, Nugget was super excited.  We took the dog out and made snowballs on her lunch break.

Tomorrow is our 4th anniversary.  Mr. Mitten will probably be at work for 12+ hours so we don't have plans, but are celebrating on Saturday.  We have a reservation in Detroit for an amazing Roman restaurant with an outdoor tent, and will exchange gifts at some point that day.  It's the fruit and flowers anniversary, so I'm getting him Hungarian wine, making him Hungarian cookies and bought him a floral tie I think he'd actually wear.

Today, I'm heading to the mall for MIL's gift.  We're celebrating with her Sunday and she's going to be pissed at me.  When she hosts she's adamant about dining at the table together, but that's not safe - so I'll be eating in her living room and she can sit at the dining room table in the same visual field - like we will do for  my parents when they're here.  I'm not sitting within 6' of anyone maskless that doesn't live in my house.

    SITB!!

Very cool!  It was only three years ago, but for the life of me I can't remember what I gave hubby for the fruit and flowers.  I know I got flowers for sure, because I love them.  Wine is an excellent idea for that!

Our 7th is in a month, and the traditional gift is copper and wool.  I was going to make something with a penny from the year we got married, but Canada discontinued the penny before we got married.  But the Americans didn't, God bless you all!  So I found someone who had an American 2014 penny, and I'm ready to do something with it.  I have to get cracking on that soon though.  It might involve metal etching (not the penny, but something to frame it).

  • S+S - I forgot to mention.  Maybe try yogurt for Izzy's food.  I was giving a tablespoon to each dog for a while.  It started so that Olive would eat her breakfast, but it helped with digestion too!  I did greek yogurt and I actually started making the yogurt myself in the Instant Pot, I was going through it so quick.

Thanks!  I actually have a huge thing of yogurt that a neighbor gave us.  That would be a good use for it because there is no way I could get through it before it goes bad, lol.
