Thank you Georgia, Wednesday edition!

edited January 2021 in Wedding Woes
Yet again for saving us from ourselves. It seems like only a matter of time before the Ossoff race is called. My favorite meme I saw was “Georgia’s got 99 problems but a Mitch ain’t one”.

  • Does it look like Ossoff is going to win?

    It does, he’s currently up about 16k votes and that lead has grown over time. Obviously not official but it does look like he’s going to pull it off.

    He declared victory this morning. He's up by about 15k, with most of the remaining votes out in DeKalb and Fulton. My activist friends were already saying it last night. In other news, I'm always excited when the news learns how to say DeKalb correctly. It's De-Cab, not De-Kalllb.

    I'll also be watching congress count the electoral college votes today.
  • @MissKittyDanger do you all have universal pre-k/ preschool in Canada? Montessori isn’t cheap here either.
  • @charlotte989875 no :( preschool costs and I can't afford daycare plus preschool. We looked at it because there are a few near our place/daycare but unfortunately they're only half days. If they were full days and say 2-3 days a week, we could have done it - lower days at daycare and just adjust the cost.
    We joked with my mum recently that she needs to retire so I could put BK in preschool and that way my mum could watch her on off-days and afternoons lol
  • Strangely enough the Montessori style schools by me are actually cheaper than normal ones. Now I will say these are Montessori-inspired so maybe that's why it isn't as expensive

    That might be reasoning, but I have mentioned to our daycare if she wanted to attempt any preschool stuff {I know some stuff she does Montessori style} we were good with it. I know she did some stuff when the older girls were there.
    Ex: colouring - but with using proper holding of the marker {my kid is not a fan of crayons ...}
  • I started Bridgerton last night.  I was looking up some info online for it, to see if it was a series M and I could watch together (he declined). While reading up on it, it said it was a series based on the Julia Quinn novels.  Ummm I read all of those YEARS ago (in my 20’s) and still own them!  So now, I’m stoked.  But only for the nostalgia and devotion I have for Ms.Quinn. Lol.  First episode was just “ok”.  I hear it gets better around ep 4?
    It gets so good! I want to read the series now, the waitlist for my library is 6 months! I might just give in and buy them.
  • I wasn't feeling very hopeful yesterday about GA's Senate run-off election.  Considering BOTH Dem candidates need to win for a Senate majority.  And...well...it's Georgia (historically very Rep.).  So I'm extra excited this morning to see that it's (probably) going to be pulled off.

    It's also extra delicious that Trump is getting thrown under the bus by his own party.  They're right.  He was a hindrance, not a help.  And pro-Trumpers are getting a taste of their own medicine.  That the only "cause" he has ever cared about is himself.  He could have conceded defeat a long time ago and helped his party win those GA Senate seats.  However, he's been too busy with his baseless claims about "rigged elections".  He stayed true to his divisive path, that motivated the opposition and lost him GA to begin with.  But he was convincing enough that some Republicans didn't go to the polls at all.  Either out of "protest" or because they felt it didn't matter since Trump said the election was going to be rigged, like his was.  "We're mad, so we're not going to vote in this important election."  Really?!?  Not the political strategy I would go with, lmao.

    Other than that, SSDD.  But I mean that in a good way.  It's nice to have my work and personal life under control, for once, lol.

    This is what they actually did! I saw a billboard in Cobb County last week that had Loeffler and Perdue in EvilGreyTM that said something about "They didn't help Trump, don't help them!"

    Although it's all PACs, so maybe it's funded by the left anyway.
  • I feel like it's a playbook he's all too keen to explain.  "My supporters don' trust the system because it's rigged so they didn't vote so my opponent wins."

    The only thing he's accomplished is screwing over Republicans.  I live in a state with some seriously terrible Democratic leadership and the issues of the hatred against Republican candidates here can be traced in a direct line to the guy asserting his mental acuity with person, woman, man, camera, TV.
  • Bless your heart Georgia. (In a good way..is it usually more a diss? #confusedNortherner)

    @MissKittyDanger I know I’ve recommended BusyToddler here before, if you follow her a lot of what she recommends (open ended toys, activities based on child-interest, hands on activities) go hand in hand with Montessori principles.  I had a Montessori preschool I fantasized about sending my kids to but it was $20,000 a year for half days...three close-in-age kids...we couldn’t swing it.  So BT it was, and I’m happy with the way they went through toddlerhood/preschool.

    @CharmedPam that’s so funny about the books!
    @VarunaTT how are you feeling?
  • @ei34 I've mentioned it to our daycare and my mum {who will be taking BK once a week starting in spring} and since BK is more vocal about what she wants to do, we've been trying to do different things also.
    A few SAHM's in my June 2018 group bought the course, and I know I would if I was a SAHM, but they've been sharing stuff for the rest of us who aren't buying :)
    BK is recently into colouring because M bought her Crayola Pip-Squeeks for halloween and apparently that made a huge difference in he want to colour! Plus she has just been asking about playdoh {we have it in the containers on the table}
    Also we got her Picasso tiles for xmas, so they're out for exposure but she's more into her Frozen 2 figurines lol
  • @MissKittyDanger I didn’t even buy her Playing Preschool program (though I’ve heard great things).  They went to a non-Montessori but still play-based preschool part-time...when they were young I only worked two days a week so I had lots of time with them, and we did our thing at home. But I can imagine it being hard to balance daycare with preschool!  Does BK’s daycare have some sort of curriculum?  (Not that it really matters, as long as she’s playing and being read to and talked to she’s good ☺️)

    Same here.  There are 3 Montessori accredited schools in our area and 2 that say they're Montessori but not accredited.  The 3 accredited schools were significantly less than both the non-accredited and non-Montessori daycares we checked out locally.  We didn't look at in-home daycare at all so i can't say how that compares to the larger facilities.  I was really surprised by the cost comparisons though!
  • YAAAAAAAYYYY Georgia!  It will be so nice to be another step closer to ousting Cheeto-face and his minions.  Anxiously awaiting finalization!

    I'm napping in a bit bc work is super slow and I have nothing scheduled.  I feel like butt (pregnancy related, not actually sick) and would rather take a quick nap than take tylenol all the time.  Hoping these massive headaches subside soon.
  • @ei34 Not particularly because it's a home daycare and she's solo. They have a routine, which is adjusted for weather {nice days are more outside time and daycare has a gazebo so they'll have snacks, lunch, etc outside.
    Since she's solo, there is more flex to her wants and she knows BK is more hands-on kind of kid {tactile per say} so she's been working with it. And anything we start, we'll let her know {more independence, etc}
  • Haven't pulled the trigger on this, but I'm thinking of buying it later. Right now it's a bit expensive but probably by summer.

    Unless someone has something similar but better price?
    We currently use totes and it's just a lot and not organized AT ALL

  • I'm cautiously hopeful about the second Georgia race. I am; however, about to dump a whole bunch of friends from FB - permanently. They are talking about how this election was stolen and getting their guns loaded! Seriously folks, there wasn't widespread fraud and the POS president is just a petulant child. If the election had gone the other way they sure wouldn't be calling fraud! Just sick of the whole thing and embarrassed to be from Indiana and America.

    That seems really expensive.  I have one Rubbermaid with dividers.

    I am a big fan of totes where possible and if you can, find ones with dividers.
    -They are stackable
    -Can take a bit more of a beating
    -If they are some kind of a hard exterior those seem to be more impervious to mice.

    I nearly crapped myself the year DH's aunt died and we had a big infestation of mice.  The thought that they ate the tree topper she made in the fabric container made me want to throw up.  (our topper is an angel and her face was hand made out of modeling clay.  His aunt made everything except the harp the angel holds).  Since that time the angel lives on the top shelf of my closet.

    Just my $0.02.

    We use totes with dividers that are specifically meant for ornaments. We bought the at Lowes years ago. They keep out moisture and mice - i f necessary. The dividers are cardboard and can be collapsed if you need  deep space for something big. Every few years a reorganize stuff in them - this year was one of those years.
  • @banana468 I've hunted :( none here have dividers. Tried finding separate ones.
    WHY IS IT SO HARD TO FUCKING ORGANIZE MY SHIT!

    @ILoveBeachMusic Hmmm .... lowes may be the solution

    SIB:

    Not quite the same "gun story", but similar paranoia.

    When Pres. Obama was first elected, I was working at a company with a very politically conservative and religious culture.  Which was so weird because it was an engineering firm, so there was no business reason for any of that.  But anyway, the day after that POTUS election, two of the coworkers who worked near me went out at lunch time to buy more guns before Obama stopped allowing guns to be sold.

    Ummm, okay guys.  You do you.  But I don't remember there being any campaign promises that he was going to totally outlaw the sales of guns or hunting rifles.  And, hindsight being 20/20, nor did that happen.

  • I’m cautious about the GA race and trying to remain hopeful but not optimistic if that makes any sense at all.

    We got our COVID  vaccines in today. It’s already a shit show and I am once again annoyed at how. Much. Fucking. Advance. Notice. We had and yet did not prepare. I get that we got them a few days earlier than anticipated, but seriously? There should have been protocol in place for distribution, attestation forms, etc a month ago when they started approving them. Ugh.

    Otherwise I feel like I am on the struggle bus with sleep. I’m avoiding Starbucks and booze for the month of January and trying to workout every day. I’ve made an in depth cleaning list and to make things manageable I’m trying to do one thirty minute task 3-4x a week. I have it broken down to the small stuff like “top drawer nightstand,” so hopefully it becomes more attainable then just looking at a huge list that “bedroom” encompasses. I would really like to pare down belongings and streamline items this year. I just feel overwhelmed in a lot of areas so I’m hoping getting some stuff at home under control will help settle my mind.

  • I've got class in 5 mins but saw this and wanted to leave it here:

    "Pence said in a statement issued minutes before he was to begin presiding over a joint session of Congress to count those votes that it was "my considered judgement that my oath to support and defend the Constitution constrains me from claiming unilateral authority to determine which electoral votes should be counted and which should not.”"
