Wedding Woes

Post Coup Thursday

What in the what in the what the fuck y'all?  I was off yesterday.

I went to brunch with a friend yesterday.  I was watching the speech over her shoulder because all TV's were tuned to FOX in the restaurant (extremely par for the course in my dumb backassward town...all the eyerolls), even though I couldn't hear I had a pit in my stomach over his and the crowd's demeanor and energy.  I stopped in at my fave boutique and found some adorable shirts on clearance (I bought three different colors) and a bday gift for my friend.  I went home after and started to clean up the house, especially rooms I'd neglected for about a month.

Next thing I know, my phone is going OFF because of the capitol building being locked down.  I started listening to CBS's live stream and then moved downstairs to watch it on TV. We watched until Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy came on.   I cried a couple times, but mostly was in a state of disbelief.  I will say that I love Norah O'Donnell and she really put the screws to the R's she could get on the phone.  Also, I got so much housework done as it was on because I couldn't sit still.

Anyway, I found out today that Metallica has their own whiskey brand.  I feel like I knew that in the back of my head, but I read an article about their new release.  DH is a HUGE Metallica fan (they're second to GnR for him) and loves whiskey and bourbon. His bday is in a few weeks.  It's available at a local store, so I need to find time to go up there ASAP and pick up a bottle.

Work is work.  I refuse to say "SSDD" today because it's so not.

Prudie coming up.

Re: Post Coup Thursday

  • I feel like I'm hungover even though I only had one drink last night (showed extreme constraint). To all the R's bailing - it's too little too late!
  • I spent all yesterday afternoon and night glued to CNN. Luckily I managed to get the work I had to do done. What an insane day yesterday was.  :s
  • Apparently Pence is why the National Guard came and M & I were like
"What? Pence makes sense?" Then we saw him being the only one without a mask and our world was restored.

    A few things

1 - if Pence becomes President, can Marlon Bundo be VP?

    2 - if you think Canada is innocent ... we are not. We have more of an issue with police/RCMP and our Indigenous communities {please look up Nova Scotia fisheries}

3 - Seriously. Marlon Bundo for VP
  • I was also glued to the tv last night. I did not restrain myself to one glass of wine. It feels like we're in an alternate timeline or something, but this has been building for a while. I don't think this is over.

    Prudie is much needed today.
  • @charlotte989875 we were pretty freaked out when Pence was sounding like a voice of reason in this. I think they're trying to figure out how to run the next 13 days smoothest.
Is there anything that could bump Biden up to be President sooner instead?

  • Is there anything that could bump Biden up to be President sooner instead?
Nope, it's in the constitution.  He will not be inaugurated until Jan 20th.
  • And more 2020 vibe shit happening in 2021 -

My aunt just msg'd saying my nana is back in hospital. Reminder she's 92 {93 in March} and has leukemia.
She's been getting i.v treatment but apparently really weak today. There is suspect on how much time she really has at this point.
  • The rumor mill last night was suggesting that the 25th was already being considered, or secretly enacted. I don't think the latter is possible, but I'm not sure how Pence had the authority to bring in the national guard.

Who ever wished to live in interesting times can take a flying leap.
My guess is if it’s enacted we won’t know until after a vote; they’ll keep it as quiet as possible until it’s done. I’m not entirely sure how he had the authority to authorize the guard either which is a huge question mark now. I mean I know how it happened, I don’t know how it *legally* happened. And I used to be an expert in political institutions.

I don’t know that’s the case- I think Pence is worried about his political future and saw the sea change of just how extreme these supporters are. I’m not convinced he’s interested in a peaceful transition of power more so interested in protecting what little credibility he has left.

Biden cannot take office early. We’re stuck with this mess for 2 more weeks.

I really want to see some investigation and post-mortem after all of this is over. We have to learn from this if we expect our democracy to survive.

@Jstump2 So exciting! I love the beams in the living room.

@climbingsingle I'm so sorry to hear about your aunt and uncle, what an awful way to find out. *hugs*
@MissKittyDanger sending good vibes for your nana.

I dont' have anything else to add about yesterday's shitshow that hasn't already been said.  Just trying to process.

Has anyone ordered furniture from Wayfair/Joss&Main/AllModern/etc?  I finally found a bed frame and headboard that I really like for our primary bedroom but i'm interested in hearing about quality.  It seems like all these random websites have pretty much the exact same items and that seems weird to me.

We scheduled a day to start the babe back at school.  I have very mixed feelings about it but i feel like we don't really have any other options.
We ordered our crib and some rugs from Wayfair, but they were Fisher Price so we could review the quality. You can find name brand options on there as well. We were really happy with it, and the free shipping was nice.
  • @Casadena we got the toddler kitchen helper from Wayfair - wasn't cheap but honestly we love it and the shipping was pretty good considering I'm in Canada.
I've heard good things about Wayfair though so like Amazon, I kept eye on reviews, etc
  • Speaking of kitchen helper, over the holidays BK almost had a broken foot.

Our kitchen helper BK stands on is foldable so it goes between our fridge and wall. BK can pull it, and usually one of us grabs it before the edges clear the fridge since it isn't steady.
I turned around to put food on the counter so I could grab it and M was watching also, but he thinks he turned at the same time for the briefest of moments.
Behind me I hear a crash and crying.
It fell over, and it did hit the top of her foot and given that we didn't know really what happened we thought it broke her foot.

It didn't. Nasty bruise and definitely scared her. M saw where her foot got hit with it, and luckily it was the edge, so it could have broken it but lower chances since it wasn't a flat piece - it was elevated enough.

    But good lord ...
She was walking and running after, and we've kept eye on it and she's fine. Called dr and they said if it's not a flat piece the chances are low but always possible - also it could have chipped a bone so if she started complaining or showing signs of pain then we had to take her in.

Bruising and swollen, but luckily we didn't go anywhere so she didn't wear socks or shoes that could have pressed on it.
  • Trump has been crying election fraud for 4 years.  He claimed it would happen in 2016, but he won.  This time he didn't win and started shouting about it even more, so yesterday is the culmination of the gaslighting and snake oil salesman he has always been.  The rumor I read this morning was that a group of GOP'ers told him to release the statement about a peaceful transition of power had to be given by him or they would invoke the 25th.

And to see all the images with the protestors and police, the white privilege is on full display.  If those were black or brown protestors, this would have been a very different story.  I've seen it posted, but the meme of troops on the steps of the Capitol while there was a BLM protest compared to what was there yesterday.  Not even close.

Jstump - The house is really cool!  I hope its as great in person!

Climbing - I'm sorry for your losses.

Has anyone heard from Varuna?  I'm hoping she is doing well.

I did my yoga last night but it was very hard to concentrate knowing what was going on in DC.  Not much going on tonight.
  • I'm trying to survive the horror of yesterday by clinging to the hope that, once Trump and his hatefulness and divisiveness is gone, we will start to see healing and less extremism.  It's still a long road to be the country we want to be.  But the people have spoken (though not as en mass as I'd hoped) that we need a Democratic slant to our leadership.  It's hard to be hopeful right now.  But I hope we emerge as a BETTER America, instead of a "great again" America.  Because, let's face it, America has never been "great" for large segments of our population.

    (off my soapbox)

@climbingsingle, I'm sorry to hear about the deaths in your family.

@MissKittyDanger, continued good wishes and prayers for your nana.  I hope she at least starts feeling better so she can go back home and be comfortable.

@Jstump2, That house looks and sounds great!  Good luck tonight.  There is so much potential in the kitchen.  I can't believe the current owners are wasting all that glorious kitchen wall space with so many, many bins, lol.

  • Thanks everyone!

right @short+sassy? They must drive themselves mad trying to remember what's in which bin . Lol. We would definitely have big plans for that kitchen including an island and coffee bar!
  • @short+sassy  She's not even going home yet. She's in a retirement home that luckily is right by the hospital. There was talk about my aunt discussing with her about moving there permanently but she was waiting until things had settled and now she's back in hospital.

Honestly, I think this will drive conversation about selling my nana's apt sooner than later. My mum and I offered to help because even though it's a 1 bedroom, she has a lot of stuff. I seriously think it will end up a lot packed and stored for now regardless outcome

Oh, the "stuff"!  My mom and aunt had to struggle with that, with my grandmother.  When my grandfather retired, they sold their house moved back to Hawaii.  My grandma had thousands of records and all kinds of other "collections" of things.  She couldn't let them go, so most of that stuff was put in a storage unit in CA (where my mom lives).  Where it sat for 20-30 years and was hardly touched.

At some point, my grandparents moved to a living space over the garage at my aunt's house (in OH).  Then my grandma moved back to CA to live with my mom (grandpa had passed away by then).  They were slowly able to get her to weed some of the things down over the years.  She moved to a nursing home back in OH a few years ago.  She STILL had that CA storage unit last year.  But they were finally able to get her to let go of what was left and get rid of the storage unit.  Some of the things she still wanted, so my mom/stepdad made a trip out to OH in their RV to bring those items to her.

All the "things" was a real millstone to deal with as my grandparents started downsizing.  It was a wake-up call for my mom, too.  Growing up, she also kept a lot of stuff she was attached to.  But when she watched how burdensome it can be, she started to become a purge monster with her own things.  She didn't want my sister and I to have the same thing happen as she started aging and downsizing.

That's a long story to say, I get it!  If it's a comfort to a loved one to know their things are still around, even if they will no longer use or have a place for them, then you do that for them.
