  No one has to have a bridal shower or bachelorette, but if your mom really wants to have a pre-party for you (and I get this from a mom's perspective), she could host what used to be a tradition, the bridesmaids' luncheon. It's perfectly proper for the MOB to host this, since you're not asking for gifts and no one has to spend any money to come. She can just book a nice restaurant and invite your bridesmaids (and traditionally, any sisters of the groom were included, as was his mother), then treat them to a nice meal. If she is a girly girl, she may enjoy planning this.
  
  Another option is a bachelorette that doesn't involve drinking. Since your friends know you're not a partier, one of them could plan something like an afternoon at a salon/spa, a picnic at the beach, waterskiing, etc. If someone offers to do a bachelorette for you, you could hint that this type of activity is more fun for you than bar hopping.

  Well, your mom isn't supposed to host a shower for you, but she could host a lunch or tea party for you if you're okay with that.

  Funny you mentioned a tea party, I actually just inherited a bunch of tea cups from my great grandmother. I really like the idea

  I've never heard of this tradition before, but I'm sure it's something she would go for!
