Wedding Woes

It’s snowing. Wednesday.

It’s snowing in April. And I know I live in Buffalo and this happens but I’m over it. I had a big 8:30 meeting and while it went well I’m now exhausted and want snacks.

Re: It’s snowing. Wednesday.

  • It snowed about 2 in here and this is NOT normal for end of April.  It's melting very fast.  It's raining snow from my trees. DefConn liked the snow, so that's one of us.  LOL

It's supposed to be near 80 next Tuesday.

    SSDD otherwise.

I saw some pictures of upstate NY so you get ALL my hugs @charlotte989875.  Snowing here a bit, in Chicago. but light light flurries that can’t even amount to anyone callinf it snow.

SSDD. My life is boring and I want to get out and be active again. My park district opened up for fitness classes, in person, but the shitty ones I don’t even like.  Yoga and zumba (zumba is ok, but it’s the instructor and classmates I didnt care for).  I like the park district because of distance, no commitment (like a contract) and it’s a low cost. Hence why I’m looking at workout videos at home but my motivation level currently sits at 0%. I have to pay someone in order to get my ass up and out of my house.

@CharmedPam, I have such fond memories of growing up and going to classes at the Park District (I went to Fox Valley, which I was there when they went from the old crappy building close to downtown Aurora to the new awesome one close to Waubonsie HS). I took gymnastics for years through them and I also did golf lessons one summer.

    I'm just having a moment...LOL

We have a decent parks dept in our town, but our town council sucks and hasn't approved any freaking mixed use facilities/sports complexes even though I know a TON of people who'd use them.  The closest YMCA is 20-25 min away and in a high traffic location.  Plus I find the Y way over-priced..

Anyway, it's one thing I miss about growing up in the Chicago area.
  • It's also snowy here but in 2 days it'll be so much warmer .... so it's not gonna stay.
Benefit is BK gets to wear this jacket my mum got her for transition times like this. She will need a new winter coat and boots, but this is great for days like today - cold but not freezing, snowy, etc. The chest/back area is water proof but the arms are like a thermal idea?

Idk. I'll get a photo and show you guys tomorrow.

I'm attempting to get into youtube vids again. I've been off and on for years, but after not doing it for awhile I kinda miss it?

Anyways, what do you guys watch?
What would you WANT to see?

    my current channel:
    Katie Miller - YouTube

I tried to do the makeup thing and yeh I still enjoy it but I cannot keep up with it, and I don't feel it's right fit for me anymore?

    Idk.
  • I loved turbo jam @charlotte989875, years ago, and its fun but gets repetitive.  I bought cize, that fit in 8, and some other videos and gave them all up!

@mrsconn23 I looked into the Y too!  Exactly my probelm, distance and over priced if I’m just going for the classes.  Most of the classes aren’t even being offered yet.  I might have to sit  this out till the pandemic is over over.

@MissKittyDanger, don’t look at me! All I watch is make up tutorials. What about cooking or baking? Can you do that?

  • If you can buy home equipment like your own bike I'm a big fan of the Peloton app.  Yeah I'd love to know if I'm dialing my resistance to the right dial or following the speed EXACTLY as they call out but at a fraction of the cost and the amount of gross sweat the pours out of me I'll still call it a win.  I'm a big fan of the playlists that keep me going and thus far this has been the greatest I've worked out since my 20s.

DH and I finished watching Stanley Tucci's Italy series on CNN so now I am ready to cook.  Tonight it's pork milanese (because I have cut up pork loin in the freezer and am not going to the store for veal), and saffron risotto.  Tomorrow the kids start up spring practices so the hope is also to have a stockpile of food that I can heat up as leftovers tomorrow when we get home from the 45 degree practices and we're cold and hungry.

Yah I’ve done some of the barre and yoga series on the streaming service and they’re pretty good. I think it’s $99 a year for access to everything? With running I probably would pay for it but H seems to like the lift ones and it’s easy to do at home.
  • @CharmedPam I am the same motivation wise. I need someone waiting on me to go. Even group classes rarely work because I know the class will happen whether I am there or not.

No snow here, no rain either. It hasn't rained since last year, maybe last spring even.

Other than that, ssdd. I have a headache, I have completely fallen off the wagon with my diet and don't really care. I need a new show/series to watch, what can y'all recommend?
  • @CharmedPam I did brookies before {brownie cookies} I'm not the greatest cook, so I'd probably pass that off to M because I can barely follow directions properly lmfao
  • Yesterday I started the thread and then never came back. I went to a friend's house to bring over lunch and see her new baby and ended up being gone for 5 hours. oops.

My work motivation is severely lacking. I think that is the biggest problem I have with working from home - easy to get distracted. Although in the office it is also easy to chat with people and kill an hour so I think it has trade offs for sure.

I have a Beachbody annual pass.  I love Cize and the Barre series.  DH occasionally does P90X.  There's a new series coming out from Shaun T later this year.
  • @charlotte989875 I love your big backyard.  @CharmedPam I am the same way for - I like a class where people know me and notice if I'm not there.  (but at the same time I hate socializing in a workout class) I don't have any suggestions, just commiserating, since I haven't been good about working out for the last year because I'm horrible about doing it at home @missJeanLouise we just finished The Morning Show (appleTV) and highly recommend if you have access.

I'm on a call right now and the audio is terrible so I'm online shopping for nursery décor and double strollers.  Side by side double or a front/back one?  Any strong opinions?  Couple errands to run today but otherwise nothing notable.
  • @charlotte989875, My H and I were shell shocked by the weather this morning also.  It was chilly, windy, and in the 50s.  Usually the end of April is when the descent into the hells of summer starts and it's in the 80s.  We just don't know what to make of it, lol!

@VarunaTT, I saw your post yesterday and am so sorry for everything you have been going through and how long it has been dragging on.

@MissKittyDanger, my UO compared to most of the rest of society is I don't like watching videos.  Animal videos are my exception.  If someone is doing actions that are easier to see then read about, that's a necessary evil.  But, Lord help me, if it's just someone speaking...where I could read the same thing 12x faster, plus have it sink in better...I absolutely cannot stand the utter inefficiency of that.

Happy surprise yesterday!  I got a completely unexpected check in the mail for $520.  It was from the overage in my escrow account for one of my loans.  Pretty weird because it was a refinance loan that I didn't even close on until mid-January of this year.  So I'm not sure why they would have already been doing the annual escrow accounting.  But, whatever.

Unfortunately, it also opened up a can of worms.  Which, will be a good thing in the long run, but it's annoying right now.  They have some cockamamie amount for the estimated payout of my 2022 property taxes next Jan.  It's $680 more then it should be!  No idea where they got their number from.  They claim they get that information from my county and "double-checked" while I was on the phone with them that this is the amount they have and supposedly paid out.  Mmm...hmm.  I have my 2021 tax bill.  Sent to me from the same parish (county) that you all "supposedly" got your info from.  And, you're totally wrong.  As usual.  This is the same mortgage servicing company that mixed up my insurance information for the other two loans that are serviced with them, with two different people's files.

At least I have the steps involved in getting them to correct their error.  So I'm trying to look on the positive.  I'm not totally sure what will happen, but it will be more money for me, either way.  I assume they will send me another check since my escrow overage is even more then they had originally computed AND will lower my mortgage payment by over $50.

  • Mostly SSDD for me over here. I am pretty irritated at my hair stylist. Last time I got my hair done he canceled on me a few days before and asked me to switch days which was really inconvenient. Last night (again!) he texted me last minute and told me he couldn’t make our appointment tonight. No apology. I was pretty ticked. He only offered me one day instead (this Sunday early morning, and I have plans), then when I asked about additional days and he asked if I wanted next Thursday evening he never confirmed. It’s too close to my trip to really start looking for someone new too, but honestly I’m kind of ready if he’s going to keep flaking and changing things around. He’s also been revealing more of his conservatism and belief in Qanon conspiracy theories, which feels like the death knell. Ugh.

So since he canceled, hike tonight. We’ve done 50 miles since Friday. This hike might push us over the most mileage we’ve ever done in a week. I feel like I have to be losing weight, even though the scale has stopped changing. I woke up thinking it was Thursday for some reason, but nope, three more days of work. I feel like I’m clawing my way to Friday, lol.

  • So I'm pricing a car for next year - based on stuff now, I'm taking my G2 in fall {covid backlog is making me hesitant to book right now}
I just want a basic car, so I'm doing new-used.

Figured I'd see if dealerships have anything online, but might look more closer to timeframe.
Took a look at Nissan leaf {because it's size would be ideal for us} and good lord so expensive!
  • Yep, don't look at inventory or pricing now. It's not come back from delays due to Covid.  I'd hold off on buying a car as long as possible.  Just like with houses, car inventory is low and prices are high.  Hopefully things will even out closer to the end of this year.

IT IS TOO EARLY TO LOOK AT THE INVENTORY NOW!
Don't look at the inventory that exists because it's going to change.

Instead, start to dig into what you want and do your research so you know what you want and what you want to spend plus look at the ratings.  Consider that you'll be adding a set of snows (is that the law in Ontario?) and that cost.

You can narrow down what you know you like if you see the models themselves but don't say, "Oh you had a red one in April," because if you look in the summer they're going to have new inventory by then.

Sit and consider the seating, the leg room and if you think you'll ever have another kiddo (I can't remember if you said BK was a one and only) but rear facing seats can be a PITA in smaller cars and then the ability to get things in and out.

Electric cars are likely to have a high resale value.  Also consider a membership to Consumer Reports if that is possible in Canada.  It's been very helpful for us with a lot of our purchases from cars to pillows.
Consumer reports .... maybe we have similar?
    BK is a solo.

    I know what I want - relatively small, hatchback trunk {SUV has given me this luxury and I refuse to give it up lol}
  • Then start to look up car ratings of small hatchbacks.  You can look at dealerships but unless you actually plan to pull the trigger don't look at their inventories.  Just start to look at the things you want.

FWIW, we bought a 2008 Subaru Outback when I got pregnant with Chiquita in 2010.  It was fine once she was forward facing but SUCKED rear facing because the seat had to be pulled forward.  It was a champ in the snow even before we put winter tires on it.

I also won't drive a sedan again if I can help it.  I want a van or at least a car with a lift gate.  We have a station wagon (Buick Regal Tour X is DH's daily driver) and an Odyssey.  Our play car has only 2 seats and is for DH when he's solor or when we have a date.

Look at what's decent in more inclement weather and also price the winter tires you want so you can at least consider that cost.  The bigger the car will have bigger wheels and the set of winter tires even on steelies will be more.

I drove a Kia Sportage about 10 years ago.  Which was a complete 180 for me because I normally hate driving big cars, especially SUVs.  But it's a smaller SUV and it appealed to me.

I felt very comfortable driving it, even though it was a little bigger then the typical passenger cars I was used to.  I really liked it while I had it but, unfortunately, it was totaled in an accident before I'd even had it one year.

All things considered, Kias tend to be cheaper then their similar counterparts, but still have decent histories for maintenance/repairs.  Though it has been 10 years since I researched that, lol.

Same! What is with the weirdo bumping posts and making strange comments? Also, I know this is the internet and open to all, but it feels creepy.

Whatever, SSDD for me. No snow, but it got below 50 and I do not like. It was 80 yesterday. Why can't I just have like 2 (or 12) months of 60-70 degrees?

We're debating whether we should refi and renovate our bathroom. The original plan was to do it next year, but interest rates are so low right now that we could cash out enough to cover it with no real change to our monthly payment. But maybe I'm fixated because soaking in a big tub is really appealing on a random cold Wednesday. It seems like an expensive time to do home improvement projects.

    I'm looking at the Kia Rio kinda style. Small but works. It's more the A to B car, with minimal extra stuff {like 90% will be home to drop BK at school then work. Maybe some basic stuff that I would do solo but even groceries I'd prob use the SUV}

Your hiking mileage is amazing @levioosa
Ditto Beachbody @CharmedPam this sounds nuts but there are also some really good kids dance videos on YouTube...my kids are starting to get into pop songs so I’ll put on the videos of kids’ versions and apparently they all come with choreography, lol.  They’re not allowed to watch YouTube alone and since I’m there anyway I end up dancing along too...quite a workout!

No snow here but it’s supposed to storm later and drop into the 30s overnight.  Fingers crossed the veggies, strawberries and sunflowers we planted last weekend make it.
There was a shooting at a Stop & Shop (supermarket), including one fatality by me yesterday. Well, not super close, but close enough that my school and my kids’ were both on lockdown.  My own kids are young enough to not know there’s a lockdown or at least not why, but my high schoolers knew and were balls of nerves.
  • it's snowing again here, wtf

It is, but for a smaller room like a bathroom, it may not be too bad.  I've heard lumber is the construction category especially hard hit right now, but that is more a "yikes" for new construction.

You could also do a cash-out refi for the lower interest rate now, put the extra cash into a money market or CD for the time being, and do the bathroom reno next year or when the construction market cools down.

The tenant who rents out the other side of my personal duplex is also a RE investor.  FWIW, he just totally reno'ed a bathroom to the tune of $12K.  His main house, office, and most of his real estate holdings are about 90 minutes away.  His "day job" is being an attorney, but it's his own firm.  At any rate, his property that is currently his law office was previously a house.  He is moving his office elsewhere and turning that property back into a home, that he is going to rent out.  That's the bathroom he reno'ed and it sounds like it was higher end.  New bath tub/shower, new everything, replaced the flooring with new tiles that also go halfway up the wall.

  • H sent me pictures of our yard in Indy WTF my azaleas were covered in snow! SIL and I took the twins to get new sneakers today - so much fun. I remember when my kids (and I) wanted to wear new shoes home. They did great. Now everyone (including mama) is napping.

I did a workout on their Peloton. I do like their Peloton. I couldn't just bike for working out though. I know they have other workouts. I just haven't checked any of them out. We have an elliptical at home that we bought last summer. I normally go to the Y and take spin classes and use the equipment in the Wellness Center. I like classes with regular people that expect me to be there - so some accountability. The pandemic has really screwed that up for me because a lot of them have returned to the Y while I haven't yet. I will now that the baby has arrived ,and I am fully vaccinated. I am on the Advisory Board of the Y so I have to defend the price of Y memberships LOL. We aren't just a gym We offer a lot of other services that are covered by memberships (we are a not for profit organization). There is a sliding scale membership for people of lower income at every Y.  Actually family memberships are a pretty good deal for everything included while single memberships compared to places like LA Fitness are higher. Y's offer children's programs while other gyms often don't. Ok that's my board spiel for today.

I'm headed home tomorrow. It sure will be hard to leave that squishy little baby and those sweet (if rambunctious) toddlers. I'll be back pretty soon. SIL doesn't have much paternity leave and DD wants me back for support once he's back to work full time. He is also going back to in person work next month.
