Re: Monday Mood

  • @short+sassy I'm laughing that they wanted you to put in more kitchen cabinets!!
  • @short+sassy is it me or are those tenants operating in their own reality?

Thank you for the validation, lol!  That is one of the more off-the-wall requests I've received from a tenant.

Sometimes it feels that way!  They are young, around 22-23, so I chalk it up to lack of experience.

    Oh well that explains it!

Fyi, no kitchen ever, in the history of kitchens, will have enough cabinet space
    I 1,000% agree with this!

  • Seriously, I thought I was being a bit bullheaded b/c I've requested a light put in somewhere and I'm seriously considering asking for a ceiling fan in the bedroom.  I've also been there 5 years!!  People get weird.

You should ask!  The worst they can say is "no".

My H and I are very "pro" ceiling fans.  We have one in every room of our own house and at least in the living room for all of our rentals.  They are so perfect for our rentals because people love them and they are such a cheap upgrade to put in.  While I certainly can't speak for all PMs or rental owners, I'd be happy to install a bedroom ceiling fan for a good 5-year tenant who rarely asks for anything.

For this particular unit, we had somehow missed putting the ceiling fan in the living room.  I think we even had it sitting in one of the other units we were still doing construction on.  We noticed when they moved in and told them, after they settled in and if they wanted it, we had meant to put a ceiling fan in the living room.  They called us a couple weeks later and asked if we would put it in the kitchen instead because they found that room stuffier.  Not a problem!

A rare opportunity when it worked out we missed something on our to-do list, lol.

  • I just got a little bad news.  One of our tenants gave their notice that they will be leaving at the end of their lease (July 31st).

They were fairly high maintenance and seemed like they weren't that happy.  So I'm not that surprised they are leaving.  Just disappointed because they have always paid their rent like clockwork which forgives a lot of sins, lol.

For example, one of them didn't realize the house doesn't have central heat and a/c until their move-in day and she was livid about that.  Not at me, but at her roommate.  The roommate was the only one of them who came to view the property.

Some of their requests made sense to me also and I would take care of them.  But some of them were ridiculous and I wouldn't.  For example, they weren't happy with amount of cabinet storage in the kitchen.  That's because they had both moved in from each living in their own one-bedroom apartment with kitchens that I assume were only a little smaller than mine.  So then they were trying to fit all the stuff for two kitchens, into one.  They wanted me to put in more kitchen cabinets.  Except there was nowhere to add cabinets that wouldn't have looked stupid or blocked other cabinet doors.  The kitchen is what it is.  I didn't sneakily add in extra cabinets for showings and then take them out again.

They are the same ones who think there is something wrong with the electricity because they keep overloading the circuits.

This is one of the units at the two next-door duplexes we renovated.  The other duplex building, we have both units rented out to a main tenant that runs them like mini-nursing and transitional homes.  We'll talk to her and see if she is interested in taking this third unit, come August. 1st.  That would be sweet to just roll right from one tenant to another without any vacancy.
this is really nice to read, I enjoyed it. Thanks for sharing this.
