Weekend was decent here. B got too much TV time but balanced it with traipsing through the field behind our house, checking out a new park with a giant hill to run up and down, etc so all in all probably not terrible.

Planned to go into the office for a bit today but it was going to be rainy all day and I didn't feel like messing with it. I need to buckle down because May starts my busy season and once again I didn't get ahead of things in April so it's going to take some focus. I might start going into the office once a week because I think I can get a lot done there with a real office set up

@banana468 is there something specific about first communion being this past weekend - I saw a bunch of people I know with pictures from their kid's. Is it always a certain # of weeks after Easter?

@CharmedPam I tried to reply to your covid test question but it said my answer needed approved (eye roll).  is it a job that can be done remotely? If yes then the best course of action would be allowing the person to work remotely as a reasonable accommodation under the ADA. If the job cannot be done remotely and they won't let the person come back in then I could see that employee filing a law suit (if they wanted to) since they are willing and able to work and the CDC guidance says it is OK to return but the employer won't let them.

Alternatively the employer could continue to pay the employee either using FFCRA or other leave policy since it is the employer saying not to return. Not quite the same but this question came up a ton last year when employers had an employee with a spouse who had an exposure but who hadn't tested positive or shown symptoms but the employer didn't want the employee to go to work even though the employee wasn't subject to quarantine order. The conservative approach was to pay the employee for that period of time since the employer was the one saying to not come in

First Communions are generally a spring time occurrence.  There's no rule that they have to be a # of weeks after Easter because in the Roman Catholic church, Easter is the first Sunday after the first full moon after the Vernal Equinox.

Most schools and religious ed departments of parishes run their classes so the lessons for 2nd graders (usually the age they receive that Sacrament) end in April.  The 2nd graders will have made their first Reconciliation sometime in the winter and then they go into the prep for 1st communion.

Making it in spring is often logistically easier since it's after the kids have completed their lessons and the instructions are fresh plus having it in spring is before summer activities and then no one has time.

Weekend was good, but exhausting. My best friend brought her twin girls out to the playground in our town and we met them there. Baby M was in awe of all the kids. He even tried a slide and the swing and was super pumped. H was at camp all day so we walked and played- I was falling into bed at 9. Yesterday was beautiful so got out for a run and took M for a long walk. He loves being outside so much.

So I’ve disliked my car since we got it- I wanted an SUV with 4-wheel drive and H and the dealer talked me out of it because we were in Ohio and didn’t need it. Of course we all know we moved to Buffalo one year later and I’ve wanted to trade it in since then. H has been against it because the car is in great condition and has a super low payment. Well he tells me yesterday how his boss just traded a car in through CarMax or Carvana and they  got well over what the car is worth. So now H wants to sell my car and get a new one. And I’m happy because I do want a new car it irks me that we’re doing it because his boss said it was a good idea not because he really listened to me about what it was a good idea. It just frustrates me that he vetoed this idea many times this year and now is all like “it’s a great time to get a new car”.

Well, it's hard to get cars in right now.  So before your H jumps to say "Heyyyy let's buy!" I'd also look that you can get what you want.  The reason cars are selling high is because supply is low.   I know if DH talked me out of what I want, then sold what I had only to get slim pickings I would be none too pleased.
  • So sorry to hear that @climbingsingle.  Glad it’s all behind you now.
@charlotte989875 yes, 4wd in Buffalo always a good thing.  I can see your frustrations though, about it being someone elses’ idea.
thanks @kvruns.  She’s back, supposedly sporting a negative test.  I don’t think we asked to show proof (and she’s a known liar and wanted back bad!) but it’s not my place to raise a stink about her showing it either. Shame on her if she is lying about it.  And yeah our jobs can be done remote. We all did it in March 2020 - July 2020!

weekend was fab.  I caved and turned on my a/c though. I hate turning it on in May. Saturday, I got the best facial of my life and signed up for the 6 pkg special since the discount was good. Then M and I walked around a quaint little town with some shops, overspent on junk, had dinner, then went home and crashed.  Sunday we did lunch at Baker’s Square (the food is really improving there!) and walked around a really good used bookstore near me.  All in all, a great weekend and we got to go outside for a bit too.  Not a crazy amount of outdoorness, just the perfect amount.

Weekend was pretty good. H went to his parents house to help install an above ground pool. Everyone is really excited about it but me, I'm just meh about above ground pools. Saturday  I took the kids to my parents Saturday and went shopping for an interview outfit. I got a basic pair of black dress pants and paired that with a blue blouse from my closet and greige blazer. Hopefully it looks okay I have not had to dress up for work in sooo long. I am going in Thursday for my interview.

My H's friend was helping with the pool install and his wife worked Sunday so I watched their two kids plus mine for the morning/afternoon. They all had a nice time playing together and we walked up to the park and had some popsicles - felt like summer!
  • Also, @charlotte989875 do you have winter tires on your current car or all seasons?

Even if you go w/ AWD or 4WD I'd recommend that for any car that will be driven in the winter.
  • Do you ever spend enough time in a room you hate it so much?

    Me with bathrooms right now.

I had narrowed down to 3 paint colours, but the store has a new way for one-time use for it. Bagged instead of cans.
Anyways, they only had 1 colour in that brand so I think I've made my decision :)

Shit needs to open so I can also get BK a helmet

YES.  That's why I took 2 days off a couple weeks ago to paint our family room.  We've spent so much time in there over the last year I NEEDED something different.

Yes, which is why I bought a new duvet cover last night:

And am contemplating getting this storage thing to replace one (hideous) nightstand (I desperately need dedicated sheets and towels storage):

Yah there’s a few options we saw online at local dealers I like. I agree completely though. I’m fine with what I have- it’s not what I want but I don’t want to go through the hassle and expense for something I’m also ‘meh’ about.

I do have winter tires- we live in the snow belt of the Buffalo snow belt. My town is the pictures that make the national news when we get lake effect snow. Which is a big reason I want 4-wheel drive. H leaves for camp so much during the winter, if I need to get out of need to take the baby to a doctor or an emergency I’m not messing around with front wheel drive anymore.

Sorry about the strong reaction @climbingsingle
Yay for the amazing facial @CharmedPam

My first grader and i finished her religious Ed on Friday (it was remote this year), glad for one less thing.  My parish is so big that second graders make Communion over five Saturday’s (4/24-5/22 this year, 11am and 1pm services) but concur with banana on it being a spring thing.
Weekend was a mix of gardening, ball games, and a walk through the local botanic garden with my sister and baby nephew where she told me she’s pregnant again 🤗 due in January.  So the baby news is giving me some extra pep in my step today.
That’s amazing!! But also your sister must be Wonder Woman because I cannot imagine being pregnant again right now!

@charlotte989875 she really is. But...I think we all are 😉
  • Weekend was a lot for many reasons.

Friday night, the kiddo had a 'crisis' and we had to work him through it.  DH was tired and went to bed early.  I ended up on the phone with a friend for about an hour.

Saturday, I got up and did some OT.  I started getting ready for the day and kind of ran out of steam due to all the feelings. Family dinner celebrating mom was nice. The kiddo was there and he was still kind of a hot mess from Friday's fallout.  He got a lot of love and a little life advice from everyone.

Sunday, I was a little hungover.  I had to get up early and help my friend L move from her apartment to our friend M's place.  I did sweat out a lot of my hangover, lol.  But it was a long day.  DH stayed back home because he had a ton of projects he had to work on.  We also got a log splitter from our neighbor, so he and DefConn started working on splitting the tree we had taken down a few weeks ago.  There's still a lot to do, but we're finally getting all the wood out of our front yard.  I was pretty much worthless when I got home.  I went and picked up food for dinner and then crashed on the couch.

I'm still tired, and some BS this morning didn't help that either.  Now I'm tired and emotionally wrung out to boot.

That's true - you guys get DUMPED on.  You need the ground clearance in addition to the AWD and winter tires.

We get so few of those storms but it came in handy one year when DH was asked to drive across town in the Outback to do a welfare check on the grandfather of a friend.   Some roads weren't plowed and we had well over a foot.  It did a tremendous job that a front wheel drive would not have managed.

I'm glad you guys have winter tires too.  There are so many people we know including older relatives who have forgotten that winter tires are a safety investment and worth it if your area gets snow and you intend to need to drive in it.  Our ILs and parents now use all seasons but they generally have the luxury of deciding that they're not going to drive in inclement weather.  It's not something that we often can avoid.

how interesting @Jstump2 does that mean the dog would live with you in that scenario?

@kvruns Yes, it does! It would be a lab and would be housed by the officer.

Interesting development from H at work. He works in the police department for a hospital and they are considering taking on a therapy/bomb sniffing dog for the hospital. They are looking for applicants in his department and we are considering applying. It would be a huge commitment so we have to have some long conversations but exciting to think about!

This was before the pandemic, so I don't know if they are still there.  But the NOLA airport (MSY) had official "airport emotional support animals".  They wore specially colored vests that said something like, "Pet Me."  Their handlers would walk them around the airport to help calm people before their flights.

@short+sassy Yes it sounds like the dog would be dual -trained as a therapy dog but also bomb-sniffing if there were ever an immediate threat to the hospital. There is another hospital nearby that has a similar program. I am curious to hear more about it. We currently have a lab and she is a good girl but nowhere near that level of trained. Lol
