Wedding Woes

It's Thursday!

The long weekend (for me, LOL) is almost here!!  Getting my nails done tonight.  It's been months since my last pedi and a couple years since a manicure.  Wahoo.

Had a good chat with my neighbors last night.  They have a pool and are all, "Come on over any time we're in it!"  Yes!!  I told them how we had a half a cow's worth of beef in our freezer, so we can bring the burgers.

Looking over Prudie. I wonder when new Prudie will take over.

Re: It's Thursday!

  • Oh awesome @Jstump2!!!  And yes, new job definitely calls for a shopping spree and pampering.

awesome @mrsconn23 we had that with our old neighbors, although we could use the pool even if they weren't home which was cool. The new neighbors we are friendly with and I kept waiting for an invite sometime but it has never come lol

    @Jstump2 that's great unexpected news!
  • I know I'm getting used to a new sleep schedule, but I'm about to start just snorting coffee grounds over here!

I think I have a new neighbor upstairs.  It was earlier this week (I think Friday night) that sex started around 1:00 am.  The bed makes A LOT of noise, sounds like moving metal against hardwood.  It was  a Friday night, so I just kind of suffered through it.  Kudos to them that it seemed to take awhile.  But it started up again last night.  I just yelled, "OH COME ON!!!", b/c there's absolutely no way that all of that noise isn't loud in their apartment too. It immediately stopped and didn't start back up, so that's fine.  We live in an apartment building people, if you can hear your bed, your neighbors probably can too.

Otherwise, SSDD.  I'm just so sleepy.  I also think it's the week before my period, so that's kinda normal for me too.

@CharmedPam nice timing with the Uber. WHat are you doing in Memphis?
  • I almost got my taxes done yesterday.  I did the whole thing, but didn't submit yet.  I want to make a few more tweaks and apparently I need to track down my 1098 forms (interest paid on real estate loans).  One of them I'm pretty sure I have at home, though this bank has often not sent it to me in previous years.  I'm definitely missing a main one and I don't think it will be easy to get.  They were always difficult and aren't my lender anymore anyway.  That was the loan I refinanced in Dec.  I'll try, but I'm not going to twist myself up in knots over it.  If I can't get the official 1098, I'll estimate the interest I paid in 2020 from what was on my last statement.  My taxes are exhausting and I just don't even care anymore.

Y'all, I am not kidding, it took me around 6 hours and I probably have about another one hour of work.  Every year I think it will take 2-3 hours and every year I'm reminded again that, no, it takes 5-7 hours, lol.  And that is even with the help of Turbo Tax.  The main ugliness is I have to fill out a Schedule E form for each rental property I have.  Which includes filling in all the expense categories, separated for each property.

I'm happy and feel very accomplished that it is almost done, lol.  But it was a lot to deal with yesterday and my brain was tired!

I have one important task to wrap up today at work.  It's tedious and I'm kicking myself for not doing more of it in smaller chunks during the rest of this week.  But I shall persevere!  Prudie breaks will be the perfect distraction to get me through, lol.

Surprising my parents on their surprise retirement party! They litterally live like 15 minutes away from here, but they don’t know i’m here. Living the hyatt life!

@short+sassy, every year I’m amazed at you.  With all your properties you still do your own taxes! Wow!
<insert meme of the Oscar audience standing up to clap since I’m to busy to find it lol>
Thanks!  The first few years it was just the other side of my personal duplex.  That got my feet wet, especially with the help of Turbo Tax, for how to do it.  At this point, I feel like it would be more hassle to have an accountant do my taxes.  Because I would still have to gather up all the info and then meticulously organize it, so it would make sense to someone else.

Not to mention it saves me hundreds of dollars to do it myself!

Every year I even debate not paying for Turbo Tax...$105 this year and that was with a discount code...and just printing the forms I need and filling them out by hand.  Extra time vs. money saved would actually be worth it to me.  But when I also factor in "extra aggravation", Turbo Tax always wins out, lol.

  • Wait @CharmedPam, you can pre-book Ubers?

It’s Thursday and I am tired. FI took zzquil last night which caused him to have night terrors and sleep walk. I can never let him take an Ambien, lol. At one point he jumped up and started walking around on top of the bed. Waking up at 3 am to a foot on the chest is not ideal. He didn’t remember any of it. He’s just lucky he’s not super tall or he would have been clocked by the fan.

Otherwise, SSDD kind of. Everyone is on edge. OSHA might stop by for an audit and I’m not thrilled about it. I hate all government audits. Even though we’re compliant it feels like a test you didn’t get to study for, if that makes any sense.

Hike later with FSIL.  I’m debating if I should try at home sugaring tonight. It might be a terrible mistake lol.

I used to work for Lockheed Martin at a government facility related to the Navy.  Everyone who worked there was either in the Navy, a civilian government employee working for the Navy, or a defense contractor.  There were actually a bunch of defense contracting companies there.  Not just LM.

A few times a year, there would be a surprise visit by a group of auditors who would review everyone's timesheet.  Not just the defense contractors.  EVERYONE'S timesheet.  And it was always completely a surprise.  No warnings it even might be happening soon.

But the moment they introduced themselves to the first manager, "whispers" and phones lighting up ran the news like wildfire!!!  It was two five-story buildings with over 1,000 people working there.  Within 10 minutes, everyone knew.  Ensue everyone looking at their timesheet and then scrambling to get it up-to-date, if it wasn't already, lol.  I always found it so funny.

In those jobs, it was a gov't. requirement that timesheets are filled out at the end of each work day, including a unique description of the work done.  That's what the auditors were checking up on.  And they would also ask a question or two about the work you did that was written in the descriptions.  They don't know anything about people's jobs, lol.  But they wanted to make sure YOU had written it and could explain it, without getting flustered.

Yes! We work with federal & internal audit frequently and this is EXACTLY what it feels like, even when you know you’re doing everything correctly.
  • Super excited because I managed to get a reservation for Tom Colicchio’s Italian pop up restaurant for tonight! He’s doing most of the cooking himself and since I’m a huge Top Chef fan this is just massively exciting
That’s awesome! I’m more than a little jealous! Please update us on how it is.

Lots of meetings today, but so nice and sunny outside.  Tomorrow I am getting my ducts cleaned.  If it's nice, I'm going to take the dog for a long walk in the middle of the afternoon while they are here.  It should be nice.
Already looking forward to the weekend!

  • Busy day, but the weather is nice. I’m hoping to sneak out early to my softball game and just enjoy the weather. It feels nice to play a team sport again, even if there’s very little post game socializing. Some is better than none!
  • Sounds delish @STARMOON44, I’m a pretty picky eater but I could do that!

@STARMOON44, I'm glad you enjoyed it!  That sounds like an awesome experience.  My H and I are tentatively planning a trip to NYC in July.  I'm jotting that down as something to try and get a table for.

It is so tough to decide where to eat in NYC, though!  I feel like I would need a couple months of constantly eating out to try all the places I've heard good things about.  And you know how that goes.  If I did that, then I'd hear about even more good places and would repeatedly need to extend my hypothetical food vacation for more months and more months, lol.

Edited to add:  And since it is hypothetical, we aren't even going to talk about the damage to my wallet and waistline! lol.
