Here we go again.

Y'all, I'm living in the epicenter of the new Covid surge. And there are STILL PEOPLE ARGUING about whether or not it's real, about whether or not the vaccine is effective, about all of this shit. The healthcare system here is overwhelmed again (even with a specialty covid wing), while our shit governor says it's the fault of the healthcare workers and it's a management problem, not an ACTUAL PANDEMIC problem. The CEOs and healthcare workers are exhausted and have no fucks left to give...one of them tweeted out "shut up". It's starting to filter out into the larger cities here, as our 2 hospital system is diverting patients and is locked down to all by life/death surgeries. What I'm seeing now is a mass depression as those of us who are vaccinated, who have taken care for a year and more, go back into personal lockdown and start saying, "Well, if they die, they die...I just hope they don't take me or anyone else with them". To my knowledge, I only have 1 friend who isn't vaccinated and I've done all I can to convince him and I won't be seeing him for the foreseeable future either. I was out this weekend b/c my BFF was in town, but we were masked while we were out and it'll be my last time for the foreseeable future. I've even canceled the art class I was going to take. The movie theatre is so dead, and they still put in the social distancing on seats, so I feel okay with that for now, but I'm not sure how long they'll remain open here. This is so much bullshit. The stupidity of the local and national Republican Party (and yes, I lay this blame 1000000% at their feet) is going to murder a lot of people.

Otherwise, it was such a wonderful weekend to hang out with my BFF. He came in Thursday and we did go out for him to meet a bunch of my local friends. We stayed up far too late, talking our faces off. I only worked a half day on Friday and we hit up some local restaurants after that and stayed in Friday night, just watching Tik Tok, movies, and talking. Same thing for most of Saturday. Then i went and saw Black Widow and it is SO GOOD. It would've been worth the $30 to stream too.

Now back to the work grind.

Weekend was good. Saturday it was a good day to be BK lol
Went to the park in the morning - BK had a blast at swings, slides and sand. I went out first with her because M wasn't dressed, but he came out and made a sandcastle so she could stomp it. Lol
After her nap, we went to a local place for fancy ice cream. BK & I split a float - but it was like raspberry slushy with ice cream. It was very good and actually very tart lol

Sunday we went to see M's nanny and his dad was there. His dad is not in good health

It's scary. He has cellulitis and wears these socks. Plus his walking is just not good.
We mentioned about SFIL watching BK last minute one day because daycare's husband was having health issues.
FIL said we could also use him as back up.
Uhm ... what? M and I were just like "oh ... thanks." But we won't be - even in good health, they live an hour away and are notoriously late. Plus BK doesn't know them well $:\$

Anyways, everyone brought belated gifts for BK and she is OBSESSED with a romper M's nanny gave her.

So today she also found her little Frozen 2 backpack I got her and insisted on wearing it. I was going to wait until after holidays but it really doesn't matter.
She was also obsessed and would not take it off at daycare lol Good practice if she gets into preschool.

Weekend was fine. Baby isn’t sleeping well so no one else is right now. It’s rainy and dreary and hot.

But Saturday was beautiful! It was our villages annual garden walk so I took Baby M to snoop through peoples gardens and backyards. It was like me and a bunch of grandmas who loved looking at M. He just started and waved.

I'm not even trying to hide it: I live in Springfield, MO. This city was the leading story on every national news service in the nation this weekend. We are, depending on your source, between 30-35% vaccinated, that's it. We are the 3rd largest city in the state (which compared to KC and StL is a significant decrease in size) and the only bigger city at all in the lower southern part of the state and especially in the SW corner (for the SE, it's usually faster to get to StL). So, not only are we pulling in our own population, we're pulling in all of the smaller surrounding areas who don't have any hospital to speak of, or a hospital with 2-3 ICU beds who simply can't take a surge at all.

I've bitched about the MO legislature for years, and this is simply a whole lotta sins coming home to roost. I'd just prefer not to be taken out by it.

ETA: Oh and we're also at January 2020 numbers of in hospital patients/new cases. And of those in hospital patients, less than 1% of them have received any vaccine at all. They've only had one patient go through the hospital, have to go on a ventilator, and pass away, that was vaccinated. But I have at least 5 vaccinated friends who have gotten covid now. It's just that the symptoms are far less, more like the flu, and no hospitalization.

Seriously, some days I just sit back and think, "I hate it here".

That's complete bullshit, Varuna. If it wasn't for the risk to kids, people who can't get vaccinated, and healthcare workers, I'd be like just let them die. But these selfish fucks are dangerous to other people. I hate humans.

Chill weekend here. Saturday they installed the new AC units, so we took the dog to daycare and went looking at bathroom stuff. Yesterday we went for a nice hike, read a while, and did some chores. Other than that, we mostly chilled and watched an absurd amount of soccer.

Work is off to a pretty good start today. I finally wrapped up a project that has been annoying me for weeks. I'm happy to put a check mark next to that one. Hopefully the rest of the day is this smooth.

As a person in STL who has kids who can't get vaccinated, we're all pissed too.

Even here, we go out and if we're going to anything with the kids, we wear a mask in solidarity with DD. She knows we don't really "need" to - that maybe it'll help us a little bit healthwise, but mainly it's just so she doesn't have to be the only one doing it. And the comments. Even people who did okay with solidarity when it was elderly people seem to be eye rolling at us for trying to make our kids feel better about being the ones who still have to wear their masks.

However, we have become friends with one other family (they've got a kid in DD's preschool class from last year and her soon-to-be K class) who seems to be doing exactly what we're doing. So, it's helped some in identifying our people.

Ugh @VarunaTT I saw on the news about MO and immediately thought of you.
I also think a lot of this is non vaxxers getting the wrong info. One of my coworkers had covid in March, probably March 15th (it was before St. Patrick’s Day) and she walks around (maskless) saying she can’t get covid again. Yes you can!!!! So she’s in no rush to get the vaccine because she heard she had the antibodies… she didn’t get the part of that news that they’re only in you for 90 days. We tell her she still can get it, but whatever.

Weekend was good. Saturday started off nice but then we got rain. It was a clean the entire house, veg out and watch Fear Street kinda day. Someone from my infidelity group was supposed to do lunch Sat but couldn’t escape her manipulative stbx. I ended up having lunch with another friend I met through that group on Sunday though. She knows the whole story of M and actually met him once on a double date. She started to date someone a week or two after M and I did, and they’re still going strong. When I sat down she said “drinks look good here. I figured we were drinking?”
i said “well I am the alcoholic so…” and laughed. Now, her stbx is a diagnosed alcoholic and knows all the signs and she assures me I’m not. My friends who hear he told me that also make fun of it, and tell me I’m not… anyway we each had a drink and sat and talked for 3 hours! It was a great lunch and got me out of the house.

The friends I have, who have gotten it, were 2 dose people (I have at least 5 in my life and I know more tangentially). I only had a handful of friends who did the J&J (I'm a bit older and that was more marketed here to the college aged people) and some of them are being allowed to go back in and get a 2nd Pfizer/Moderna to boost the effectiveness. It seems to be doctor dependent, it's not an all over decision yet.

The public schools have at least started requiring masks for summer school and there are other people voluntarily masking. I hate that they let the mandate expire now. I did get some rolling eyes, but I'm pretty sure my anger is showing through the mask, so no one has messed with me yet.

I do not get the concept of it. BIL isn't vaccinated and neither is SIL. You could tell that their kids are just not used to mask wearing. We did agree to eat inside breakfast with them and our kids were masked except for eating. At one point my niece asked SIL if she could take her mask off because her ears hurt and I turned and said, "Oh I'm sorry sweetheart it's the law here that you need to keep it on." And there are my two kids not complaining.

There's some question about SIL's health and I get it if her doctor actually advised her (I opted not to ask) but for BIL - I don't get it.

I'm guessing the Albino Farm and the Girl Scout camp? I've been to the camp, we went searching for the Farm and couldn't find it. Also, in my college years, we all decided, drunkenly one night, that we were going to make an indie movie that the Joplin Spook Lights were really the guiding light from a disco ball for gay people parties.

Oh and Pythian Castle, I always forget about that one. I've toured it before, but haven't done the ghost tour, b/c it's a wee expensive. The history of that place is super interesting though. I will also say, I've been in the Landers theatre for both rehearsals and performances for years and I've never seen anything but the damn bats!

I think the Ghost Bride one has been fixed though. It was a weird way the bridge and water mixed with light hit. I think they had to redo the bridge finally and it messed it up.

Yeah, unfortunately y'all are. I didn't know you were in Springfield, but I knew you were in Missouri. When I've seen the news coverage about the spikes happening in MO, I think of the s**t show you've described there throughout the pandemic.

You'd think when a community is called out on a national stage about how bad things are, they'd start looking in the mirror. But they don't. I've seen my own city/state ignore the "look how bad it is compared to everyone else" headlines over the years. Fauci specifically called out the state of MS the other day that, because they have the worst vaccination rates in the country, people living there should still wear masks.

All of it is so frustrating ((banging my head against the wall)) because we HAVE the answer! WE HAVE IT!!!! The vaccines have proven to be extremely safe and effective. And you can literally see that by the statistics. Communities with high vaccination rates have improving numbers and have opened back up. Some communities with low vaccination rates are having spikes and are shutting back down. So whhhyyy doesn't everyone just take them. Argh!! It's so stupid not to! SO STUPID!

And if people don't want to get the vaccine for themselves, how about getting them for the most vulnerable members of our society. Children under the age of 12, who can't get the vaccine yet. And people that are allergic to or can't medically get the vaccine.

Plus it also puts vaccinated people at risk. Not just in potentially getting COVID anyway. But this is a virus. And the more it spreads, the more it will mutate and become stronger. It already has. The current vaccines seem to have the same effectiveness against the variants. But as long as this disease exists in massive numbers, there will be more variants and the next ones might be more resistant to the vaccines.

I know I'm just preaching to the choir here, but I just don't understand why anyone wouldn't get the vaccine at this point and it angers me.

Ah I see! J&J was pulled from our market.
Astra Zenica was marketed to 55+ range, then pulled so all the AZ receivers got Pfizer as 2nd dose.

That's still scary they got it despite 2 dose

The variant issue is one DH has brought up repeatedly to his parents. I know they are way too deep in conservative media but you'd think that they remember being vaccinated! And the more people who refuse to be vaccinated the more it will mutate and the more variants we'll get. If you think the delta variant isn't coming to our state wait.

On a weird and positive vaccination note. My H grew up in a small town in OR. The daughter of one of his high school friends won $1M in Oregon's vaccination lottery.

The house I went to look at on Friday was a bust. SUCH a shame, though, and really disappointing! It would have been a perfect deal, except there was major termite damage in one area of the house. The problem had gotten so bad that the roof needs to be replaced for that section of the house. The roof itself was in great condition and only 15 years old. But the wood supporting the roof had largely been eaten away and needs replacing. The wholesaler didn't even know the extent of the problem, so it was not already reflected in the price.

To make matters worse, this is a town house with a shared inner wall and roofline. The inner wall seemed fine, but the termite problem was around the roofline where the two roofs met together. To correctly treat the termites, you'd need to have BOTH houses treated. Even if I were to pay for the other house's treatment, the owner would have to agree to it. I'm not touching any of that mess with a 10-foot pole.

Normally I'm not shy to "speak with my offer" and never require repairs to be made before closing. But my offer would include them treating both houses for termites before closing, plus substantially less than the asking. So I didn't even bother making it.

Other than that, it was a good weekend and relaxing. I have a busy week ahead of me and needed that to charge up.

My neighbors have been doing work in their house and they must be working in the stairwell now because it sounds like it is IN our house. We have concrete walls and our stairwells are next to each other (townhouse) so it just echos everywhere.

I am trying to figure out stuff back home but my hometown was hit by crazy winds and 140,000 people were left without power so I am trying to be sensitive and bug them too much.

But his mom...elderly and has a lot of medical problems...was in one of the Moderna trials! I was pleasantly surprised that he was raring to go when the vaccines were made available to everyone. His attitude was that if it was safe for her, then the vaccines must be safe. Though I'm curious if he would have been a hold out, if it hadn't been for his mom being in that trial.

I'm with y'all and don't get how people can refuse to be vaccinated (unless advise against it because of medical reasons)! So frustrating. @VarunaTT DS2 came home this weekend so we could watch Black Widow (Marvel is our thing together). We streamed it so we didn't have to go into the theaters. We really enjoyed it.

Weekend was fun. DS2, H and I went to our favorite Mexican place - might have had a little too much to drink but I do love their margaritas! Saturday we watched Black Widow and binged Loki. Yesterday I made an Italian tomato and bread soup - it was delicious. Today I have a stretch therapy session and really need it!

I will say that both MIL and FIL and my parents are vaccinated. So they're more likely to be "defending choice" but they did get it themselves.

FIL isn't anti-vax - although it heavily surprises M & I - but apparently they had to really push for SMIL's son to vax. He just got his 1st dose but we think he was likely told he would be missing out on family things if he didn't.
{M's nanny didn't want people out of her bubble visiting until they were 2 weeks post 1st vax}

I will share the highlights from this listicle I am reading about weird food laws in each state, my response are in parentheses. I also tried to include all the states I know people on here are from:

Alaska -- In Fairbanks, you cannot give an alcoholic beverage to a moose. (I wouldn't get close enough to a moose, to give it a beverage of any kind)
Colorado -- No liquor can be sold on election days. (Interesting!)
Connecticut -- Due to past confusion about the difference between a pickle and a cucumber, the law now decrees that a pickle must bounce to qualify as our beloved, salty snack. (I did not realize there was confusion anywhere between a pickle and a cucumber)
Hawaii -- You cannot have more than one alcoholic beverage in front of you at a time. (I am too late to warn @levioosa, lol)
Illinois -- In Chicago, you cannot eat in a place that is on fire. (Overall, that sounds wise, but I hope there is an exception for cherries jubilee and bananas foster)
Indiana -- If you've eaten garlic in the last four hours, you're not allowed to go to a movie theater or ride a public streetcar.
Louisiana -- It can be up to a $500 fine to prank someone with a pizza delivery to their house. (I'm disappointed how boring this law is for a state with such a wide variety of unique dishes)
Massachusetts -- Mourners cannot eat more than three sandwiches at a wake.
Minnesota -- In St. Cloud, it is illegal to eat hamburgers on Sunday.
Missouri -- It is illegal for milkmen to run while making deliveries. (They should also check their watch for what decade they are in)
Nebraska -- In Lehigh, it is illegal to sell donut holes.
New Jersey -- It is illegal to slurp your soup.
New Mexico -- In Las Cruces, it is illegal to carry a lunchbox.
New York -- In Greene, it is illegal to walk backwards while eating peanuts. (There must be a story with this)
North Dakota -- Beer and pretzels cannot legally be served at the same time.
Ohio -- In Columbus, stores cannot sell corn flakes on Sundays. (Apparently, any other cereal is fine. Just not corn flakes)
Texas -- It's illegal to milk someone else's cow. (I suspect that's true in any state)
Wisconsin -- It's illegal to serve apple pie in public, without cheese on top. (You rock! Thanks for all the cheese, WI.)

The Hawaii one isn't actually that uncommon. Well, it's usually more than two, not more than one. Places have that so that bars can't circumvent alcohol cut off times by selling 6 drinks to each person at the bar at 5 minutes before. I was in the partiest of my party days when my city went from 4 am to 2 am last call. People tried a lot of dumb stuff before they just started going out earlier.

It's 2AM in CA, but most bars stop selling at 1:30. I don't know if it was a state law, but most bars wouldn't let you buy more than two for yourself. They would also go around a little before 2AM and start throwing people's drinks away.

A little counter productive for people to finish guzzling down their drinks before they are thrown in the trash, right before they leave! But that's how it's done.

I'm sorry, I forgot to include Georgia! But I remember it -- It is illegal to sell two alcoholic drinks for one price, ie no buy one get one free deals.

Edited to add: There was one bar in my hometown that was primarily a "jar bar", ie their clientele primarily came from the huge Marine Corps. base just south of us. I thought this bar was brilliant. They stayed open until 4AM and would roll out a cheap breakfast buffet, shortly after they stopped serving liquor at 2AM. People would stay for that and start sobering up. There were even people...sometimes me, lol...who would roll in there because they didn't want to go home yet, but all the other bars had closed.

areas here (depends on the city actually) have the only one alcoholic beverage per person law too. There’s some sort of loophole with a bucket of beer though? Anyway, that’s why I asked you to stand next to me with your ID ready, at the bar when were at in GA @short+sassy! i’m used to the “one drink per person” rule.

So I came here to discuss a disgusting new trend I’m seeing. I’m in a LOT of halloween and horror facebook pages and two times today, I saw pro photoshoots of “best friends burying a body” set up. Like, it’s becoming a thing because these shoots were entirely unrelated. You have the girls with weapons, dragging a body bag, diggin up dirt, all have blood all over them. And then they celebrate with drinks or food together. It’s a “I just killed my husband/ex and me and my bestie burried him”.

Ya’ll know me, I love gore and horror and blood and guts. But this type of thing does not sit well with me. And like 95% of the comments are “omg I gotta do this!” “This is fab!” “So and so you in?”. I saw ONE comment saying this was in poor taste. And I agreed.

Lets turn the tables and showcase two men doing this photoshoot?

Edit to add: I’m almost certain that these life like pictures violate FB code so I’m probably seeing them before they get shut down… but it’s to late. I already know this is a new trend.

There were a lot of ice cream laws! Though the two I remember were for specific cities...

Alabama -- In Little Rock, you can't put an ice cream cone in your pocket.

California -- In Carmel, it was illegal to eat ice cream on the sidewalk. But Clint Eastwood repealed that law when he became mayor in the mid '80s.

CA was another wacky food law disappointment. Really? With all those millions of people and hundreds of cities, that's the best you can do? A food law from one city that was repealed almost 30 years ago. Smh.
