Wedding Woes

Wednesday!

Happy first day of school for NYers (at least in my area!) Hope everyone is having a good back to school.

It’s cool and rainy here. Second interview this morning with a company. We’ll see how it goes!

Re: Wednesday!

  • I was not here yesterday, but thank you for the bday wishes :)

Katie on Instagram: “This is 34”

Got a pedicure. Saw my mum. Had lunch. Saw my granny and painted BK's toybox.
Chalk paint is so good! Definitely thicker than expected, which was so good because I only bought one jar lol
I think I may buy some for our tiles. The paint I have isn't cutting it ... also I think it should be roughed up a bit.

But overall, long weekend was great :)

    This week is busy now.
    Tonight is prek zoom
Tomorrow need to pick up gift for daycare.
Friday is prek call & last day of daycare. BK's daycare is retiring so her husband is planning a small party for her :) We're excited.
ANDPLUSALSO BK's bed comes Saturday. She goes to my mum's on Saturday so even if she does sleepover, we're setting up the bed while she's gone.

I really wanna go to the mall this weekend for some clothes.
  • @mrsconn23 did I read right?  He can go back to school earlier if he’s positive?!? Smh. And his last day already?!? That was faster than fast.
Good luck on the interview @charlott@charlotte989875
@MissKittyDanger treat yo self! That’s a motto I take to seriously

Nothing new here.  Planned to see Candyman tonight but I woke up with a headache and started my workout but ended it.  Took some tylenol, went back to bed and told myself I had to workout after work instead.  So now Candyman waits.
I got a call/text out of the blue from a friend who is trying to convince me to attend board game night at a bar. I want to go.  But suburbs to the city is a big PITA. I’m torn on going (probably wont be until October anyway) but I need to get out more.

  • I just watched the John Mulaney interview on Seth Meyers where he recapped his year and announced he's going to be a dad.   I'm mentally processing it even though it's not like we're friends!

I was pretty disconnected all weekend and came back to this rumor/news. I need to watch the interview.

It's interesting, especially since he's addressed not wanting to be a parent famously in one of his specials.  But people change.  Good luck to them.

I wonder how much of the not parenting was less his choice than his ex-wife's?

In watching it I get the impression that the marriage was over by Sept of last year.    He went into rehab twice and it took a 2nd stint of 2 mo for it to "take".    DH and I previously wondered if there was an overlap but it's not sounding like it.
  • OMG @climbingsingle, that sounds amazing and so awesome!  Have the best time.  We went to Maui in early Oct and it was perfect.  Where are you staying?

Ahh no way!!! That's great! Let me know if you've got any tips!

Since we're with this big group, we do get a breakfast buffet included every day. I did already make reservations for one of the restaurants on the property for the day we arrive since I figured we'd be tired.

Not sure if the hotel rents out water equipment, but I think we're bringing our own snorkel masks with us anyway.

We snorkeled off-site on a tour with rented equipment, but I'd bring my own...especially now.

We ate on-site once or twice.  There's a casual restaurant that we really liked.  I think we walked to the Marriott for dinner one night to eat at their steakhouse.  It's 2-3 resorts down on the beach.

The pool by the beach is so nice.  I could have stayed in it all day. There's also a pool that has a grotto with a bar.  The resort's spa is top notch.

Kihei is not far from the resort and it's got some cool restaurants and food trucks.  Wailea is super high end, so it was nice to head to Kihei for something a little more low-key.   Maui Brewing Co is also a good place to eat.  There's a restaurant in Kaanapali and then they have a tap room closer to Wailea that has food trucks that come by.

If you want to do Haleakala, you need to be up at like...2am to head up the mountain.  I'm not sure if the road to Hana is open, because I know there was flooding that washed it away.  If you can get to the black sand beaches, do it.  They were so freaking cool.

  • @charlotte989875, good luck on the next interview!

@mrsconn23, Your H must be SO happy!  I know he hasn't been happy there for quite awhile.  I missed the final verdict.  Did he go with the "more money now, less opportunity/few raises" job?  Or the other one, that I think was with his same company but a different department (if memory serves)?

@climbingsingle, a HI trip sounds amazing!  Especially when it's free, lol.  I'm glad things are working out so well with the new guy that you are bringing him along.

A week from today, I'm leaving for my trip to NYC!!!  TBH, all this hurricane aftermath has taken some of the joy and excitement out of it.  But I think once we get there, it will be really nice and perk our spirits to be somewhere new.  Though frickin' Southwest changed our flights AGAIN last week.  Less than two weeks before the trip.  Really, SW?  The return flight isn't too bad and I probably won't change it.  The departure flight added 2 1/2 hours of travel time and gets us to NY around 7PM, instead of in the late afternoon.  I'm going to try and change that one but, whatever, it's fine if I can't.  Obviously I've had more pressing issues to deal with.  But I really need to call them sometime today and see if there are better options.

My H changed our cell phone plan so that now we can use their Internet for our home computers.  He did that earlier today, so I'm not sure yet how well that will work.  Plus, the internet on our cell phones has been pretty spotty since the storm.  He said we can take it back off, once we get our real Internet/cable back.  But it's only $10 more/month...after a $30 activation fee...so I'm not sure we want to do that.  Our normal Internet goes out often enough that it might be worth just keeping it.

Work is much better today (knock on wood).  I've mostly caught up from suddenly not working all last week.  I feel like I can finally catch my breath, lol.  I'm still in my temporary spot.  They have the power back in my usual room, but it's still too hot and I like where they moved me to.  It's pretty funny.  I'm at the end of the floor where all the "client" offices are located.  I'm in an empty one that will be used by the client...maybe someday.  Except all of them have been WFH for the entire pandemic.  There is NOBODY anywhere around me.  It's so chill.  It's possible they may not bother moving me (or think of it) until I ask them to, lol.

OMG and I'm forgetting MauiWine.  You have to go there to get pineapple wine and ship some back home.  We did that and had it Thanksgiving.  It went perfect with turkey.

And also, Kula Bistro which is down the street from the winery.  Get something to eat and a box lunch to go.  Plus they had really, really great sweets.  They don't serve alcohol, but you can bring your own in.  There's a gas station across the street with a really good selection of beers.

He took the less money up front after covering all his bases. The schedule fits best and his opportunities and the longer term earnings are definitely there.

The internal job offer wasn't going to be great even though the $$ was OK.  The job that was offering $$$ up front was actually not that great after doing the longer term math, plus it was really far from the house.

  • I need to have a condiments discussion and gripe, though a joking one.

I know I'm always bitching about my employer, but one nice thing they have been doing this week is providing everyone with lunch.  It is great and I really appreciate it because nothing around us, food-wise, is open.

Yesterday's lunch was pretty basic.  Bread, cold cuts, and PB&J.  You made everything yourself (gloves were available).  But instead of having mayo, they had Miracle Whip.  I'm sorry to the fans of MW because I know you all can be diehard.  But MW is an abomination, lol.  Fortunately, I had mayo packets at my desk.

Today, they stepped it up and had trays of fried catfish and mac 'n cheese.  But no tartar or cocktail sauce.  I think it should be illegal to serve fried seafood without at least one of those and preferably both, lol.  Crazily enough, I had two packets of tartar sauce from some long ago Popeyes fried shrimp meal.  I knew they might come in handy someday!  I'm glad I didn't throw them out.

  • @short+sassy I absolutely HATE MW. And how can you have fried fish and no sauces!?!
  • The vacation sounds awesome @climbingsingle That's really frustrating about defconn @mrsconn23  (Good) condiments are a must @short+sassy !

Barely slept last night.  I kept having intense dreams and gave up around 3am, when I realized I'd rather be awake than asleep and dreaming.  I don't know if it was divorce stress or possibly my seasonal 9/11-related sadness which settled in a week ago.  Going to mention to my therapist when I see her later today.

    Thank you for the validation!

To the bolded, I live in the Land of Fried Seafood and it is surprisingly common for none of those sauces to be available.  Not so much for a sit-down restaurant, but for "mom and pop" quick service/take-out kind of places.  They will offer you ketchup instead (shudder).

It might be a regional thing.  People here also eat their fried chicken with ketchup, which I'd never heard of until I moved here.

Team MW is nasty and should be yeeted from the planet.

There are only a select few things I like with ketchup.  And fried foods is not one of them!

I've lived here over 20 years now and fried chicken with ketchup still sounds disgusting to me.

I still remember my first encounter with this concept.  My b/f "D" (when I first moved out here) and I picked up some chicken from Popeyes.  He asked for extra ketchup.  I was a little confused by that because we hadn't ordered any fries.  I personally don't like ketchup with fries, but it is a normal fry condiment for many people.  When we got into his truck to go back to my house, I asked him why he got ketchup.  This is the rest of our conversation:

D (looking at me weird):  "For the chicken."

Me (looking incredulous):  "You put ketchup on fried chicken!!"

D (now also looking incredulous):  "You don't?"

  • I have never heard of people eating ketchup with fried chicken. How strange! BBQ sauce, yes.

I'm a very big sauce lover, so I'd be so disturbed by no tartar sauce with fish.

I feel attacked. I just like it, okay?! I guess I should clarify I mean with fried chicken tenders. I don’t really ever eat fried chicken in the traditional sense. To extra clarify, I meant the ketchup. MW can indeed be yeeted from the planet.

I also don’t like tartar sauce.

I’ve been working in a frenzy and I’m really really trying to get everything reasonably done before I leave for vacation so I can truly relax. We decided to come back from Yosemite a day early because FBIL has work and FI has his school orientation. I’m bummed but trying not to let it ruin the mood or trip. The weekend was a lot of fun and I tried to be present for seeing everyone.

  • You know, if you put miracle whip on half a sandwich and mayo on the other half… I probably couldn’t tell you which is which.  I’ll eat either.

Yes to ketchup with tenders.  But like a fried chicken on the bone needs no sauce.
Honestly, now I want kfc for dinner and I’ll probably get it.  Thanks.

  • Duke's mayonnaise girl all the way here! I've been eating my share of BLTs since we have been in SC. The heirloom tomatoes here are awesome. I don't do sauce with fish. Now shrimp and crab cakes - you bet. Cocktail sauce with shrimp and remoulade sauce with crab cakes. We are taking at least a dozen crab cakes home with us (we freeze them). The prices have gone up here since the pandemic (8.98 each) but it still beats buying them in a restaurant. I am super picky about my crab cakes - as little filler as possible. Harris Teeter has delicious crab cakes in their seafood counter here.

Went for a bike ride this morning and spent the afternoon at the pool. The twins started pre-school today - DD sent us the most adorable picture of them with their backpacks. I wish I could share it with y'all. Tonight H is fixing shrimp and pasta for dinner. Tomorrow and Friday night we are going out to dinner with DS2 - he leaves Saturday. We leave Monday which will be here way too soon. It is really nice now that so many people have left since it is after Labor Day.
  • I can’t do fried fish without vinegar, and now im
    super hungry.
