Wedding Woes

Fun Friday

Weekend is packed (all nice things but Monday will be one of those days where I could use a breather) but today should go quickly at work.  Just happy to be away from STBXH for a few hours if nothing else.  S+S hope you're enjoying your trip so far!  Wishing everyone a good day and nice weekend.

Re: Fun Friday

  • I have no plans this weekend. Not sure what I'm going to do yet, but it looks like the weather is going to be really nice.

I've been following this case about Gabby Petito, and just...wow. The boyfriend's sister just gave an interview to GMA and admits she hasn't even spoken to her brother since he returned home. I can't imagine how the missing woman's family and friends are feeling, knowing his family won't cooperate with police and then this idiot on TV this morning.
  • Proving I should NOT be a Peloton instructor, my Fitbit recognized about 15 minutes of my morning spin as SWIMMING.

I must resemble Mary Katherine Gallagher while pedaling.
  • FWIW @banana468 isn't swimming like the best activity, cardio-wise?  ;)
  • MORNING!  This week has been so up and down with DH's new job.  On an emotional level.  Monday-Wednesday, we were like "OMG, did we make a mistake?!"  It was just a lot at once and things felt so unsure.  But DH had a sort of breakthrough yesterday and got some encouragement from a couple sources that helped him feel much better.  Also, he found out some BS from his last job that makes us really confident leaving was the best thing for us.  Change is freaking hard.  The good thing is that we both realized we're experiencing growing pains/fear of change and spent our time talking the other off the ledge, LOL.

Tomorrow, my family is coming over for fall bdays.  We have 4 over a month's span in my immediate family.  My nephew is turning 6 and just started kindergarten.  He LOVES mac 'n cheese and his friend brought a thermos to school full of it for lunch.  HIs mind was blown.  He told my sister about it, so I'm getting him a thermos and some mac 'n cheese as part of his bday gift because I love all this so much.

Sunday, our friends are coming over to watch football. Hopefully this weekend will be better for both my fantasy teams.

DEFCONN IS BACK AT SCHOOL!!  Longest quarantine ever.  His bus driver was thrilled to see us this morning.  He was getting so bored and making me crazy AF.

I sent my passport application off last week.  They have it and have already cashed my check.  So fingers crossed it comes sooner than they say it will.

And finally, fuck the patriarchy.  My older sister got a pretty big promotion this week.  Older sis is the definition of type A.  (We all fall pretty much into birth order archetypes) But she's a serious person and very driven, outwardly pretty unemotional in most situations and especially professionally.  She works in the automotive industry, so around a ton of men...all the time.  Apparently, the HR manager was worried she wouldn't be 'empathetic' enough in her new role because she's not as 'nice' as the HR manager thinks she should be...?  She was also asked some straight up ridic questions during her interview process about impacts on her 'home life' the promotion would have.

On the flip, DH's new job has a ton of women in leadership and most of the people he's been training with and working alongside are women. They're all super tenured too.  He's made a couple comments to me about how it's 'a lot of women' and I'm like, "Learning from them will make you a much better leader."  He had nothing.  Heeee!!

    Also, Friday musings.

I finished Brandi Carlile's memoir "Broken Horses" this week.  I loved it.  Great story-telling, tons of pics, and she puts the lyrics to 2-3 songs at the end of each chapter.  Carlile just seems to be one of those magnetic people that draws everyone to them.  Her energy feels very similar to my friend who passed away (11 years ago this week, in fact).

The 'Nicki Minaj's cousin's friend's balls swelling and it caused his fiancé to leave him because of the COVID vaccine' is my favorite dumb story this week.  The health minister of Trinidad and Tobago and Fauci had to comment on how that's not how any of it works.  Everyone and their mom are roasting her.  Unfortunately, this is clearly a ploy to distract  from nefarious shit Minaj's husband has been up to.

This story is absolutely bonkers and I am convinced he killed his wife and son, or had them killed. Dateline is probably planning the sweeps episode for it now.

ETA: I bought a men's soft washed pocket T from Old Navy by accident this week (I just thought it was a loose women's shirt) and it's my new favorite thing.
  • I saw the Nikki Manaj tweet, but I had no idea about her husband's stuff. H showed me the tweet and was like "uh, that's what happens when you don't treat an STD."

Yay for Friday! I'm hoping for a bit of a relaxed weekend, but we'll see. We probably need to go to home depot tonight to pick hardware for the bathroom cabinets. Tomorrow is all the chores in the morning, then a game in the afternoon. Sunday we're going up to the mountains for the day to join some of our friends that are camping. I love being up there, hiking and bonfires, but I'm just not up for sleeping in a tent anymore.
  • Question - who has had a garage door installed?
I know different places and companies can do different things, but could I potentially buy one and have an electrician install it?
  • This weekend has gotten fairly busy.
BK has gymnastics at 9am tomorrow, and I'm not going so I can start cleaning up. I haven't vacuumed in awhile so that's first up.
I also need to throw in laundry and grab the shot glasses from the basement to start soaking them so we can put them away.
M is later going to my coworker's place to get 3T clothes plus a table set for my mum's place.

We figured if we do a ton of errands on the Saturday, Sunday will feel more chill. M has to put the last part of the zoo together - ie; cut, glue & screw.

I feel like my house is chaotic though.

Are you asking about a garage door opener that you intend to buy or did you physically buy the door as well?

Are you talking about a whole door or just replacing an opener?  It was way cheaper than we thought to have two openers and a new spring installed by a garage door company.  We paid under $1500 to have two of the top of the line (the MyQ's with the app and all that) and the spring installed about 3 years ago.  Also, I'd trust a company that does it as their business more than a one-off person.

Definitely call around or try to google pricing.  They should come out for a free consult.

We have the door. It's a manual one right now. We want to get the kind with a button installed.
I know you can buy it and Home Depot could install it but we need an electrician for stuff, so if we could just have 1 person come to do stuff that'd be ideal

I'd price it with a company where you buy the opener from them and they install it vs. an electrician (licensed and bonded, natch) and you buying it from the store.  Plus, check warranties on both options and all that.
  • I need to look into Murdaugh because I heard nothing of it. And Nikki Minaj. The Pelloti story is all over newsy so I know that one (newsy is my new news now that I lost local)

change IS hard @mrsconn23, and it may take him a while to get into the groove.  Switching sounded inevitable though.

We had sales training and team building yeaterday.  I’m sales support and don’t need to go to the training sessions, just get to participate in the events. Yay.  We did Chicago river cycle boats and it was very good.  Perfect weather. However our party bus must have thought he could do a side job between ours and was 1.5 hours late so we stood outside the restaurant we ate at till 11:15.  So many people were ready to get ubers/lyfts but the times and prices were sky high. Such a great day turned sour by that. I got home at 12:15 but slept like a baby!

Warranties! Yes! Completely didn't think of that

OMG, that story is also very curious.  Clearly the fiancé knows something.
  • I finished getting the kitchen cleaned this morning, so now need to set the table for dinner. H is fixing beef tenderloin with horseradish sauce, I'll fix roasted brussell sprouts. One of the other couples is bringing a potato casserole. Another couple who was suppose to come can't because he tested positive for Covid. That is the 4th(counting friend's son) case of break through Covid we are aware of to date. This morning we met with our contractor and electrician about the bathroom. I'm getting so excited. Unfortunately, we won't be able to start until January (we suspected as much) because of items be available.

Yes that Murdaugh case and the Pelloti story are very interesting! The fiancé is definitely fishy.
