Prudie Day

Couldn't log in yesterday for some reason.  Thankful that the week is winding down.
My kids received their second Pfizer dose yesterday.  Their arms were sore this morning but no other symptoms so off to school they went.  I'm nervous about the new variant but between getting my booster a couple of weeks ago and my kids now being fully vaccinated (well, almost, like adults it's two weeks before they're considered fully vaxxed), I'm trying to tell myself that I've done as much as I can.  I'd originally promised the kids a trip to IHOP (their favorite restaurant, lol) or to a movie theater to watch a movie once they were fully vaccinated, but now the thought of being unmasked in public feels unsafe and we should hold off.  (I know that we could to a movie and keep masks on but the fun for them is the popcorn and M&Ms).  School, church and their extra currics like dance and tae kwon do they do mask, and I still mask when I run errands or do anything indoors in public, like work.  Can someone tell me I can go ahead and take them go to IHOP or a movie?

Re: Prudie Day

  • Yes take them to iHop or a movie. It is fine. It is good!
  • @ei34 do it :) you all deserve it!
  • I'm so friggen tired today.

    Woke up at 2am to get M into bed {he regularly falls asleep on the couch - why do I get him? because I sleep terribly when solo}
Can't fall asleep. Not long later M is up rolling back and forth.
Gas pains. He had pizza, but we figure he didn't take enough lactade.
    After 3am I send him to the couch because he's keep me awake {I can't sleep still but not the point}
Then my back/side hurts, so I take advil and basically don't fall asleep until nearly 4am.

Shortly after 5am, BK is crying. She settles but is sniffling and whimpering. I can see she's looking around and restless.
I go in to at least see if I can settle her. We go for a nose wipe and water.
Then she wouldn't fall back asleep without a bum change and snuggles.
I nearly gave up and slept there, but my alarm goes off way before her hatch shuts off so I didn't want it just going off.

I ended up shutting off my alarm and waking up late anyways.

  • I'm actually annoyed by how the new variant reporting is being handled.  I know a part of it is literal COVID fatigue due to work and just...living in the world.  Also, this is coming off the disaster that was the booster information/recommendation rollout.  So I'm very much, "Can we shut up for 5 freaking minutes?"  I need to change my phone notification settings at the very least. /rant

Anyway, do the movie and IHOP @ei34.  I really think it will be good for them and you.  I totally understand that each decision feels so heavy right now.  You deserve all the light, friend.

It's dreary, but going to be 61 today.  DefConn wore shorts to school, LOL.

I'm trying to schedule his second shot for next week, but our state dashboard is being dumb.  I may give up and take him to Walmart or whatever.  But the drive thru thing we did last time was so easy and I didn't have to get out of the damn car and go inside anywhere.

I need to get a handle on the Christmas presents I already have for people and what we still need to get.  I'm hoping to make another big dent next Wednesday when I'm off.

    Prudie coming up.
  • IHOP or a movie are IMO fine especially where you're living where there are requirements to go to a restaurant.  I am still planning to do Radio City w/ the family at the end of the month and the kids will be fully vaccinated (assuming we're on track for Mon) knowing NY's restrictions.  Is it naïve that I'm feeling more secure there from a viral perspective given their requirements than I'd be if we were vacationing w/ family in central Ohio?

I'm also annoyed at how it's being handled.  My understanding is that while it is a new variant that we are not seeing it at the same problematic level as Delta in deaths (yet?) and if you're vaccinated it's a reason to be cautious but not panic.

I may have fatigue of this as well and just want to work into a zone where we have the vaccinations needed to fight what will likely be multiple variants in the same way that I get my family vaccinated against the flu every year.

I JUST had this conversation with my boss.  Why isn't the discussion moving to the endemic stage and how it is going to be something we will 'live' with rather than eradicate?  We have successful vaccines and antivirals that will be approved soon and brought to the market.

People will or will not get on board.  I know the unvaccinated are a problem, but I know a lot of people who eschew the flu vaccine every year and take their chances.  And many of those people got the COVID vaccine.  I hope the people who get COVID when there are antivirals available will take them.  But hey, leading a horse to water and all that.

I'm not trying to be callous, because I understand how devastating this pandemic has been on so many levels.  But scare tactics and bombastic reporting, or concern trolling and virtue signaling, or being loud and proud how you're not getting no damn shot has really done a number on my brain...at least in this moment.

I'm sort of with you there.  We've had this for nearly 2 years.  What's the definition of insanity now?  I'm vaccinated and the kids are about to be.  I'm in support of mandates in social settings of choice (not a grocery store but in an airplane or a restaurant sure!) and also support employers having the right to make choices.  I won't change my mind that I am against the politicization and am really irritated with how Abbott and DeSantis handled this however good luck getting that to shift.     Continue to work on ways to deal with this because the people who are refusing to be vaccinated clearly won't change their minds.

Oh the politicization is probably the top of why I'm so fatigued.  It's just another cog in the wheel of the polarization of the country.   IDK why, but omicron has just set me off in a way nothing else has.  I've reached my limit.  LOL

I was honestly here up until I heard about omicron and got nervous all over again.  We do have to learn to live with it bc it isn't going anywhere and I will admit that I have been slow to "return to normal".  I trust everyone's judgement on here and will take them to IHOP for their grinch pancakes in two weeks and maybe some Sing 2 over Christmas break.  The kids will like it and selfishly I'll enjoy eating inside a restaurant too.

@climbingsingle healing vibes to the pup!
@starmoon catching up from yesterday, I hope that an offer comes from your interview!
@MissKittyDanger also from yesterday- you can buy ballet slippers at Target (at least by me)

    eta
@banana468 yeah that's a good point about visiting with family in central Ohio.  My local area has a low level positivity rate and we're 85% vaccinated.  It's hard getting back in the swing of things and I'd been using the kids not being vaccinated as an excuse for so long.  Glad your kids are nearing their second shot!
  • @ei34 I wish we had Target :( We actually just found some ballet slippers from a hand-me-down bag. I just need to see if they fit well enough to do dance in them!
  • I think ihop/movie will be fine @ei34. I hope you guys enjoy it.

  • @ei34, I think IHOP and movie are fine.  Especially since, in your area, everyone eating inside a restaurant or going to the movies needs to be vaccinated.  Of course, just because that's the rules, doesn't mean all venues follow them.  Another option would be to get IHOP to-go and then eat it at home.  But I know that takes some of the fun out for kids.

In NOLA, they dropped the mask mandate weeks ago.  But you still need to show your proof of vaccination for dine-in and attending events.  It seems like maybe it should still be both because there are a lot of places people can go and be unvaccinated.  Like the grocery store.  But my local government has been great throughout the pandemic of easing restrictions based only on COVID stats, not public pressure, so I assume/hope that was an informed decision and it doesn't bite us in the ass later.

When I booked my flights to Hawaii yesterday, there was a big notice everywhere...including on the "checkout" page"...that HI requires proof of vaccination or recent negative COVID test to take the flight.

Some good updates.  The master tenant I was talking about yesterday sent her adult son to our house in the late afternoon and give us another $5K.  So we now have $10K total from her $12,490 money owed.  Which also meant I didn't have to worry about scrambling and taking a couple hours off work to go to the eviction hearing.  As I mentioned yesterday, there is one unit that has a later eviction court date.  So we still have at least some leverage to get the last $2490.

I am ECSTATIC and can't believe she came through with paying us back so much money.  I had bitterly written it off and was planning to take her to small claims court later, though their limit is $5K.  It is such a huge relief.  Plus, at least for now, we aren't going to suddenly have 4 units to fill which would have been a huge and time-consuming endeavor.

I'm looking forward to the second Prudie for this week!  Though it will continue to be a pretty busy work day.

Going to Costco after work to start the weekly scan gig with my H.  Today is my Friday, though not for good reasons, lol.  I have to take a fasting blood test tomorrow for my typical endo appointment.  After the blood test...and eating out somewhere because I'll be starving!...then I'm going back to Costco to finish the weekly scan.

After that, I'll be getting my booster shot.  I have purposely planned out a low key weekend, just in case I feel crappy for a couple days after the booster.  Which means, even if I feel fine, it will be a lot of lazing around and camping out on my couch watching Hulu, lol.  Oh yeah!  I also signed up for Discovery Plus, because they had a first three months are 99 cents special for Cyber Monday.  So many binging opportunities.

when you get to Single Life season 2, you’re gonna regret the D+ decision.  Lol.  All the people on S2 are the worst!!! But worst in a “this is a train wreck why can’t I stop watching” kinda way.  I love the relationship section but also the “paranormal” one too.

  • I think Omicron is going to crash the fuck into us and be really bad after the 1st of the year b/c of goddamn idiots.  There was a Tiktok from a molecular biologist who was explained the issues with this variant and it's scary, frankly, b/c the likelihood of our vaccines working on it looks really slim.  The question of "how bad can it get for vaccinated people" are what they're working on to answer right now.  But b/c of the ill-education and anti-vaxxers (who I hold responsible for this mess), we all are fatigued from this discussion when we really are going to have to be more cautious than ever.  I had started planning my birthday shindig and I was so excited since my birthday sucked so astoundingly hard last year, but I'm holding back on some of the plans now.

My attorneys are mad at me, b/c I've been shoving phone calls off on them.  I offered to let them do my work and I'd do the phone calls, but they didn't like that scenario either.  I told them there wasn't enough of me to go around and I could 1. work or 2. do phone calls, but 3. both, was no longer an option on the table.  I then discussed with another attorney that he needed to respect the boundaries I set out for my work space.  If he continues to disrespect those boundaries, I will put in a request to stop working for him and it will be honored.  He's beyond pissed, but guess who stopped coming into my office, past the sign that says do not disturb, email me, leave documents in this chair, and bothering me?  Said attorney.

Otherwise, SSDD.  I have a constant tickle in my throat and my eyes are very swollen and dry today.  I hope I'm not coming down with anything b/c this is beyond bad timing.

They broadcast Single Life season 1 on regular TV over the last few months.  They also aired the first episode of season 2, but not the rest.  I was really looking forward to seeing it on Discovery+.  It looks like a good season, but I will tamper my expectations now, lol.  I was kind of excited to see a "crossover" of Jesse dating Tim's old girlfriend.

  • @ei34 could you look for a movie theater with pre-booking and purchase seats right before the showing depending on how “empty” and spread out the theater is?

I am sleeping terribly this week. I had PT this morning again and it’s just so effing early. It’s been busy at work but that’s the norm. I’m debating taking today off of exercising or trying to push through another day.

I’m glad your tenant came through with the money @short+sassy

  • I am so annoyed.  I couldn't remember if my doctor's office starts doing blood draws at 8:30 or 9:00, so I called them.  Unfortunately, it was right after I'd sent my e-mail about the time off to four different coworkers, including my boss.

Come to find out, there is only one person in that office who does blood draws and she won't be there tomorrow.  Thank God I called or I would have wasted so much of my time and then needed to take vacation instead of sick hours for this bullshit.  Note to self: always call these people from now on.  Because then I had to go back and send another e-mail to people who I know get a gazillion e-mails a day.

This also means there may not be enough time for my results to come back, so I also need to change my appointment day/time to Jan.

I remembered to ask her my original question.  When I come in on Jan. 7th for my blood draw, what time do you all do those."  She said I could come in on that day and, the way she phrased it, made it sound like I could come in at any time.  Which I know isn't true, hence why I was calling in the first place.

I asked about times, not if I could go in.  So I asked her AGAIN, "But you all don't do blood draws at any time.  Unless its changed, I've been told you all only do them in the morning."

"It does have to be in the morning."

((throwing my hypothetical chair against the wall))

"Okay.  AND WHAT TIME IS THAT?  WHAT TIME DO YOU DO BLOOD DRAWS?"  I mean, I wasn't screaming of course.  But I was obviously PO'ed.

She finally told me it's between 8:30-9:00.  A whopping 30-minute window.  JFC, you'd think that's really vital information to tell people anyway, much less when they are specifically asking about the time.

when you get to Single Life season 2, you’re gonna regret the D+ decision.  Lol.  All the people on S2 are the worst!!! But worst in a “this is a train wreck why can’t I stop watching” kinda way.  I love the relationship section but also the “paranormal” one too.
I don't get the ID channel with my cable package, so that's a huge chunk of shows I'm looking forward to seeing again.  Though some of them are already on Hulu.  It's a lot of "true crimes" shows and my H calls it the "murder porn" channel, lol.

I also don't get HGTV with my cable package.  They had a lot of shows I used to love, but seemed to have gotten rid of.  Property Virgins might still be on there, but I didn't especially care for the new hostess.  Not so new anymore, lol.  But maybe they have other good series now.  I'm not a fan of their three "bread and butter" shows.  Property Brothers, House Hunters...though I like the International version, and Love It or List It.

I love House Hunters International.  It is so fascinating to me to see the different kinds of houses/apartments in different countries around the world, and love when they show all the city shots.
Same! We almost went on it when we first moved here but didn't want to deal with getting landlord consent with it. He seemed kind of like a dick and we didn't want to ask him, lol.
There was a knottie a while ago who moved to Chile and did it! I've always thought it would be so much fun to do one of those shows, but no one wants to put me on tv.
If you're a podcast person, my favorite podcast, Watch What Crappens, does a Friday series called "Dwell Hello" where they recap House Hunters episodes.  Their other content is mostly Bravo.  But they are super funny and do hilarious impressions.

Craziness! And don’t you have to have fast for those?  I always fasted for mine and then the other day my doc requested one and I was like “don’t I have to fast? I have to do this tomorrow morning then” and he’s like “not for this one..” (a1c) why have I been fasting for years for this thing?!?

Btw the ozempic .50 mg dose wasn’t working so he upped to 1 mg… and now that price is SO high since doubling it.

I frequent a big real estate investing forum and have been contacted a few times by producers. who were looking to film renovation-type projects in NOLA.

NOLA is really kind of prime place for that type of show.  We're already a major location for movie/tv productions, so all of that kind of personnel and vendors are already here.  And we are rife with dilapidated historic homes, that are architecturally interesting and stunning when restored to their former glory.

But (sniff, sniff), I have never had the right project at the right time to be considered.

    Maybe someday.

I'll have to check it out! There was a short lived series early last year that was comedians virtually watching house hunters and poking fun at it.

I always have to fast for my bloodwork.  I don't know all the tests they do, lol.  A1C, cholesterol, and thyroid at least.  Apparently at least one requires fasting.  I always assumed the A1C required fasting, but I guess not.  I also have to do a urine sample that (I think) checks my kidney function.

I hope Ozempic has been helping your numbers, though I'm sorry to hear the cost is so much worse.  I remember you were frustrated with that awhile ago.  I know how it is to feel like you're bending over backwards to do everything perfectly and then still have little to no improvement.

@CharmedPam - have you checked with the company that makes Ozempic to see if they have a discount card?  I'm on Trulicity and have a discount card from the manufacturer that drops the price.
