Wedding Woes

Friday

I took the day off from work yesterday because I took part in some market research at 9AM.  $100 for about one hour of my time!  Yes, indeed.

Then my H and I went to the bank and started our Costco scanning.  This was the perfect day to have that coordinated because, normally, I help when I get off work with the Costco thing.  But we had a Christmas party to go to last night so, we were both able to get about 4 hours in during the day.  We still have a some Costco scanning left, but will be able to knock that out in less than 2 hours when I get off work in a few hours.

We had so much fun at the Christmas party last night!  This was with my local real estate investing group.  It was good food and good conversation with the people at our table.  Not only that, but BOTH my H and I won door prizes!  I won a New Orleans-themed Monopoly game and my H won a book about "buy and hold" real estate investing.  It had a one-word title, "Hold", lol.  The person sitting across from us, who we were mainly talking to throughout the night, won one of the bigger prizes.  $200 cash.

After my Costco scanning today, I'm going to do a little grocery shopping at Winn-Dixie and get my Moderna booster shot.  I've purposely left the weekend mellow, jic I don't feel well from it.

  • Yay for the lounge area @CharmedPam!  I had the moderna booster a few weeks ago @short+sassy- I found the first 24 hours fine and the next 24 rough (I know it's different for everyone of course...hoping it goes well).
I don't have any big weekend plans, just some smaller festive fun like decorating a gingerbread house and a Christmas-themed family movie.  I do think I'm going to start wrapping gifts.

@VarunaTT, that sounds like some good progress.  Hopefully, not having to deal with that one difficult attorney will make your job more pleasant and a lot less stressful.

That paralegal who was sh*t-talking you and who this attorney was gossiping with sounds like a good choice to take over that attorney's cases.  Like a work-match made in heaven.  Or at least until one of them pisses the other one off.

  • That lounge sounds great @CharmedPam

    What a productive day @short+sassy

I’m ready for the weekend. We’re having FSIL and her H over tomorrow for a cookie party. I’m also finally getting my nails done and hiking.

The clinic is on fire today and both of my managers are out so I’m the one dealing with it all. There was also an incident of “your failure to plan is not my emergency” for something I’ve been asking about for two weeks. Now all of a sudden it needs to be done asap. Um, I’m not staying late for this when I’ve asked you multiple times over two weeks for the items needed to complete the task. Otherwise SSDD. I might try to stop at Target on the way home but we’ll see how much pep in my step I have left at the end of the day. I need to make the dough for the cookies tonight since most of them have to chill overnight. I know my crowd. They’ll loose steam and motivation for sure if there’s a three hour lag time between making the dough and baking and cooking then decorating. Lol.

Good luck to everyone getting their boosters!

  • Yay Friday!  I'm going to have to wake up to an alarm this weekend, but at least not too early.

Work is slllooowww AF today.  It's tempting to knock off early when DefConn gets home.

DH is waiting for his confirmation e-mail so he can get his start date scheduled. He should be back to work next week.  I need him to go.  He's a massive distraction.  LOL

Tonight, DefConn and I have to go running around for groceries and a couple gifts.
Tomorrow, cookie baking at my sister's house and December bdays.
Sunday, cinnamon roll day!!  And then we're going check out the Christkindlmarket that's not too far away.

At some point this weekend, I need to start wrapping gifts. I need them out of my closets and under the tree.  I have been saving TV shows to watch while I wrap.  I'm also trying to get my orders in ASAP so that we can avoid shipping delays.

I guess my nieces are coming to stay with us a couple nights after Christmas.  I can't wait!!  They're going to be here and then go to SIL/BIL's for New Year's.  DefConn doesn't know.  He's going to be so surprised.
  • Well eff this pandemic. Baby M has a runny nose and cough but no fever and is playing fine but tired and a little pale. My Mom calls this morning because she woke up with a fever. So we’re waiting on her PCR result. Eff this all.

H was supposed to go to camp this weekend so he’s watching baby M while I’m working and he’s cranky. Eff all of it.
  • Oh noooo @charlotte989875!  Fingers crossed for everyone feeling better and no COVID.  I hope H gets over his crankiness.

     At least it's Friday?

Thank gods it’s Friday. I’m just praying no Covid for anyone. Part of me wants to just have everyone go get tested now. H thinks I’m overreacting. It’s been a day already.

My conversation with my manager was, "Please give these cases to [that shit talking paralegal] and [another one who he likes to gossip to as well].  They all love each other and I'll take their cases".  Let them go ass kiss each other into rawness, I have no fvcks left to give anymore.
  • Oh no, @charlotte989875. If baby M has symptoms it’s not too early to test for him, but you guys should wait the five days after suspected exposure to test or the likelihood of a false negative goes up exponentially. I hope everyone feels better and mom and M are negative!

Thank you! I’m not even sure what the expected exposure would be. We saw friends Saturday and then family Sunday so realistically could be either. Probably the right time for either though right?

If you don’t mind- do you know if testing is the same for small children/ babies as it is for adults?

Testing is the same. It depends on the site you go to if they use the deep nasopharyngeal swab or the more shallow anterior nares swab. The NP one is more accurate but a lot of times places (mine included recently) only use the anterior nares. Of course the patients prefer the shallow one. Either way the PCR tests have about a 30% false negative rate, so I like the NP swabs because that’s already a high enough false negative rate for me.

Thank you for this- I really appreciate it!
  • @levioosa what are your thoughts on Christmas gatherings?  I'm boosted as of 2 hours ago and we are considering hosting an additional 9 people who are all vaxxed and some boosted.

I feel very conflicted. Technically we probably should continue to be cautious and distance. However that’s beginning to be overly burdensome in terms of psychological and mental health. If fully vaccinated (with all who qualify boosted >2weeks), theoretically the risk is pretty low, however it does still exist. We’ll see with Omicron how things start to pare out soon in terms of vaccine effectiveness. Eventually there will be a strain the vaccines aren’t effective against but this may not be it quite yet. We are debating having a small Christmas gathering ourselves, with all but one person vaccinated (FI’s mom, although she did have covid in august so hopefully there’s some marginal immunity left there). And she might not even be there depending on how all of the plans fall.

I’m not really a fan of the crowd aspect, but I am going to my cousins wedding for NYE. We will be masked for most of it with everyone attending having their vaccine or a test within 72 hours. I am doing both since my aunt just finished chemo and is still immunocompromised. Tbh she shouldn’t be going at all but even her doctors told her time left is an unknown so she shouldn’t miss important events. Covid fucking sucks and I wish people (mainly anti-vaxxers) would take it seriously and just get vaccinated and continue precautions. I’m very nervous about this flu/winter/Covid season as are a lot of people in healthcare. And everyone has Covid fatigue, myself included. I know it’s hard. It really, really sucks and it’s so frustrating and exhausting.

  • I appreciate the feedback.  I am trying to reduce risk especially since we have Radio City tickets for the 30th and 3 of the invited are 69 and over (but boosted).
  • Thankfully the nanny took follow up tests (PCR) and they both were negative. Her PCP thinks the first was a false positive (it was an at home test). So we came up to Chicago- just a day late. The twins were so excited to see us. I got the biggest hug from one of them and then lots of reading time with both. Tomorrow will be cookie baking day. We will still go home on Monday because I have other commitments next week.

From what I have seen on the news and what H has read, it looks like Pfizer with 3 shots has good efficacy against omicron and the boosting effect is immediate - no 2 week wait. Luckily everyone in our family has had their booster.
  • Eff my Mom has Covid. Getting everyone tested today. FCCCCCKKKKK
  • Booooooooooo! @charlotte989875 FX for a negative test.
  • @charlotte989875 oh no! Keeping my fx it hasn’t gotten to you and your family

  • @charlotte989875 FX that your immediate family is virus free and that your mom has a speedy, uncomplicated recovery!

  • Thanks everyone. Unfortunately the baby has it too. We’re waiting for our results now. Really, really sucks.

Thank you! Thankfully he just has a runny nose. Running around and playing completely normal.
So sorry your little guy has it! Hopefully he will continue to have mild symptoms.
  • Oh no @charlotte989875!  How did the weekend go?  I hope he and your mom are not feeling it too badly.

But how awful!!  It totally sucks!!

We’re hanging in. He just has mild symptoms, just like a little cold and had my mom not tested positive I probably wouldn’t have even bothered taking him in. It sucks so much.

H and I are waiting for our results so we’re all isolating together. All in all it sucks but could be so much worse.
