Finally Friday

My big guy is 2 today!!!  He's still not feeling great but his fever is lower than it has been in a couple days after some ibuprofen this morning so hoping he's on the mend!  He's obsessed with trucks of all kind and we got him a garbage truck that lifts and dumps and he's going to love it :)  I made him a tiny chocolate layer last night too.  My mom is leaving today and omg I dont' know how we would have survived this week without her.  I'm so thankful that she was willing and able to come help us.

Excited for the weekend, what is everyone doing?

Happy Birthday to him (and you!) @casadena! Hope he feels good enough to celebrate!

We all have Covid. I knew it was a possibility but yah being fully vaxxed and boosted and super careful isn’t enough when a toddler breaths in your face.
  • Ugh @charlotte989875 I'm so sorry, that sucks so much for you guys. I hope all your cases are mild.

Thank you! So far just feels like a bad cold. Thankfully the baby isn’t getting any worse. I did just spend way to much money on Amazon same daying a bunch of new things here.
  • @Casadena happy bday bub!

@charlotte989875 oh shit :\ glad it's mild and hopefully it stays that way
  • @Casadena, I saw the cutest video where two little kids (about 4 and 6) were playing on the sidewalk with their construction toys.  The grassy side of the sidewalk right by the street had mounds of dirt all down the road because there was real road construction going on.

The kids had a little dump truck.  A guy driving a bulldozer (big scoop in the front) for the road construction drove his vehicle over to where the kids were playing.  Scooped up a little dirt.  And then poured just a few spoonfuls of dirt into the dumper part of their toy.  I was astonished a big truck like that could be so precise in pouring a tiny amount of dirt into such a tiny area!

Needless to say, the little kids were ECSTATIC!!!  Jumping up and down.  Clapping and cheering.  So cute!

@charlotte989875, I'm sorry to hear you all have caught COVID also!  Though it isn't surprising with your all's baby sick.  There is only so much a vaccine can do to ward off illness.  I hope it stays really mild cases and you all don't feel too bad.

My H and I are going out to dinner tonight at Harrah's steakhouse.  I have a $100 gift certificate that expires at the end of the month.  Harrah's is also giving out a cute, glass blown ornament today.  It's a NOLA streetcar decked out for the holidays, which they do in this city.  Here's a pic:

Other than that, it should be a easygoing weekend!

I also created a new cocktail I like.  @CharmedPam was there for my debut of trying peanut butter flavored whiskey, when we were in Atlanta.  I found a bottle of it at Costco the other day and bought it.

I experimented by making hot chocolate and then adding that whiskey too it.  Even more delicious than I imagined!  Like an adult version of a liquid Reese's Peanut Butter Cup, which is one of my favorite candies.

  • So "why" phase started .... that's.... delightful.

We all woke up late today, but part of that is my fault. I couldn't fall asleep for awhile, then woke up in the middle of the night and again couldn't fall back asleep.
The alarm is on my side of the bed and M is the worst when it comes to waking up on time

@charlotte989875 I’m so sorry! Fx it’s minimal for all. You were so cautious and yet it still happened.  They do say at least 1/3 people will end up having covid in their lives.
    @casadena happy birthday baby boy!

I’m done gift shopping.  I had good news that my work gifts would arrive today but then got the message it was changed… but eta is not posted yet. I’ll accept Saturday but be angry if its after that!
I have an ugly sweater/pot luck/gift exchange thing on Tuesday with a meetup group and bath and body works had a really nice gift box for $40 if you purchase $40 on anything else in the store. I love the body mists and needed them anyway, so I’m glad I got that gift out of the way.  Now, lets hope I’m original on that, and not everyone going to the party has the same idea :)

SIB - he might literally pass out from excitement if that happened to him.  How cute!
  • Omg what a great idea @short+sassy.  I need to go to Costco anyway and I am GETTING that! I have some sf hot chocolate but maybe coffee too?

i love that ornament! If my parents still lived in Memohis, I’d suggest they take a trip there and pick that up.  They loved that city!

  • I dont have anywhere else appropriate to vent (I dont have a therapy appoitnment til January).  But H is not feeling well this morning and has been napping since I dropped off N at school.  I hate that he doesn't feel well and i'm not mad at him about that.  But when I was sick with COVID I took one nap, for one hour, because he couldn't spare time off work and i'm really pissed about it.  I was wrangling 2 kids and making dinner and everything else I normally do.  But when he's sick the world is ending.  I know it's a stereotypical man thing, but omg.

*I want to caveat that my husband is a very awesome partner, i feel like I often give them impression that he and my IL's are awful.  I just rarely think to post all the happy good stuff.  Which I should.

    Same. Exact same.
  • FX crossed for mild cases and continued improvement. I'm dragging today. I was up way too late last night because of book club plus I had a training session this morning at 9:15. I'm slowly but surely getting things cleaned after the party. I use to be able to power through it, now I'm doing a little at a time. I plan on a nap this afternoon. I only got about 5.5 hours of sleep and I'm a "need 7-8 hours" person. Still planning on going to see DS2 tomorrow but don't know if we are going to the Christmas village or other things.

I'd be frustrated too @Casadena happy 2nd to your boy!
Ugh oh no @charlotte989875, hoping both of your cases are mild
    @short+sassy yum, enjoy!
@CharmedPam love that as a gift idea!

Had a super productive evening yesterday and knocked out all of the kids' school gifts except for the classroom teachers.  The principal, lunch/recess monitors, the Specials teachers and DS's OT, PT and ST gifts have been sent in.  Woohoo.

This weekend should be festive- tonight Santa rides around town on the volunteer fire truck.  Tomorrow we are celebrating my sister's birthday (which was yesterday) with a dinner at my parents' house, and I'm bringing along the cookie decorating supplies after it was postponed a few weekends ago due to an unwell kid.  Sunday is my kids' Christmas pageant at our church...they're all excited to be back on stage (well, altar) after no show in 2020.  Aandd it's also my cookie baking weekend- starting tonight and making 5 (maybe 6) varieties for my sweets&treats trays that'll be given out next week.

ETA - I guess I should say a volunteer firefighter dressed as Santa rides around on the firetruck.  Everyone here knows it's not actually Santa  :D
  • @charlotte989875, I'm so sorry; that completely sucks. Does that ruin your christmas?

Yay for Friday. Not much going on around here, but I'm still dragging from the boost. It should be a quiet weekend. I need to do leaves after work because it's supposed to rain tonight and most of the day tomorrow. I've got one more gift to shop for and to do all the wrapping. Sunday is looking nicer, so I'm hoping to get away for a long hike a little out of the city.

@charlotte989875 - I'm sorry!  Hope you have mild symptoms and it's over quickly.
    @Casadena - yep, same here.

I need to power through this weekend and get the last of the Christmas stuff done.  We are hosting my family Christmas eve.  Lasagna is our tradition so need ingredients.  I'll make it on the 23rd. Aunt asked me to make a couple of pies for 12/25 so will bake those on the 24th. We had that weird weather this week and I took in some of our outdoor decorations and need to put them back out.  I need a few more gift cards and then wrap everything.  I have hair and nail appointments next week.  Whew!

I had 2 weeks off over the holidays last year to move so only taking the 23rd off this year.  The rest of my team is mostly off between the holidays so I guess I'm holding down the fort.  DH is off the 24th but otherwise business as usual.

The brand Costco has is Screwball.  It's a 750ml size.  I think it was in the mid-$20 range.

I've thought about trying it in coffee also, but haven't done that yet.

Probably because of the other Costco liquor purchase I made that is perfect with coffee, lol.  A mini bottle set that is a variety of Baileys ($25).  It's regular, lite, espresso, salted caramel, and strawberries and cream.  There are two mini bottles of each flavor, except the regular which has four mini bottles.  I like all the flavors, though the salted caramel is meh.  It's a slight taste of regular caramel and that's it.  The lite has 40% less sugar than regular.  You can really taste the difference, but it's still good.

I'd rather buy normal sized bottles of the strawberry/cream, espresso, and lite.  But Lite seems to be the only one sold in my area.  And Louisiana is one of those states where it is illegal for alcohol to be mailed here, so I can't order them online.  We're always in the "fine print" of those beer or wine of the month clubs, lol.

I bought the first set last month.  I liked it so much that the first set is almost gone and I already bought a second set.  I suspect it will disappear from stores after the holidays and have been debating about buying a third (maybe fourth) set, lol.

  • My other random thought for the day.  It has been a WARM December down here.  I'm not complaining...it's been perfect temps...and usually January is our coldest month anyway.  But it's just weird.

We've had highs in the 70s and lows in the 60s.

Uh-oh!  Cold front moving in Saturday night, lol.  Our highs are dropping to the low 60s/high 50s and lows are even getting to high 40s.  We might have to ransack grocery stores to stock up on water and canned tuna to get us through this tragedy of coming to only 15 degrees above freezing (kidding).

But it's forecasted to be right back to mid 70s/mid 60s by Christmas Eve and beyond.

Happy bday to your baby, @casadena!  I hope he feels better soon.

Oh NO @charlotte989875!  That sucks.  I'm glad your symptoms are mild, but I know this has to be so frustrating.

I cursed my alarm this morning.  I'm so glad it's Friday.

We don't have any set plans this weekend, which is rare this time of year.  I plan for sleep, wrapping, sleep, shopping, sleep, housework/laundry, sleep, making more treats, and oh, sleep.  LOL  I'm kind of glad the Colts play tomorrow night, just because it frees up Sunday for other stuff. We'll have football on, but I'm sure we'll be working on other things.

Ohh in my other fantasy league, I racked up 75+ points from last night's game.  I am up against DH this week, so I was talking all the shit to him.  Hee.

    Winter break starts tonight.  Wahoo.
  • Side note, as interesting budgeting news in my house

I can't do it until BK is in school because finances are really different but I'm considering getting a Nissan Leaf
Price is definitely higher on my budget scale than I'd like BUT it's not impossible.
I know approx what I'd pay for BK after school care, so even if she doesn't go first year {we're considering it} then I know what it is when she goes.

Ideally I'd like to have 1 more debt gone before I get a new car and I told M if he could be there when BK gets out of school {either driving pick up or her bus} then I could wipe out that last debt and feel more comfortable with getting a new car.

Yup. H just started symptoms last night/ today so in all likelihood we should still be isolating by next weekend. It sucks so much. The doctor said until symptoms are gone but I don’t think either of us will have cleared it by then.

I’m so sorry! Thinking of you.
  • If you're serious about a Leaf, look into electric car tax incentive programs. H and half of Atlanta did a "Free Leaf" a few years ago before the state figured it out and put a stop to it. (You could get a $5k tax credit for lease or purchase. Leases were about $200/mo, so a two year lease put you around $4800.)

But also look into charging outlets. They take forever to charge on a regular 110. We ended up getting away with putting a 220 (dryer outlet) in the garage, but if you're going to be electric long term you'll want the big one that isn't cheap.
  • Consider your use of an electric car, the cost to charge and where you'd drive.

We may go for at least one electric car eventually but in their current state and with our needs we will require our larger people mover to have gas capability.

  • that stinks @charlotte989875 I hope you are able to push back Christmas a bit.  I find it interesting on the Dr saying until symptoms are gone vs 10 days as long as symptoms are improving. I'm on day 16-17 of symptoms though it is just mild cold symptoms at this point
  • @banana468 oh no! Radio City has canceled the Christmas show for the rest of the season due to the massive explosion of covid

For the baby they said 10 days if symptoms are gone. For us they said symptoms gone+3 days or 10 days. Maybe since we’ve been boosted? We’re basically staying locked down until we’re all symptom free plus a buffer. It sucks it seems so contagious.
  • Oh good call on not telling them. It’s just so sad and stunning really how fast this escalated.

I know!  I shared my phone update with DH across the table last night.

It's a "God grant me the serenity" moment.  I'm getting a refund and we'll figure out a plan B.  It wasn't our only gift, kids didn't know yet and we could still go do other stuff.  I'm bummed but we live close enough we should be able to do this next year.

I said to our kids when our 2020 Disney trip was postponed "the best time to go is when it's open" and will say the same.

    Onto new ideas!
I thought of you immediately as I was watching the news last night! It seems like you were granted serenity! I'm sure you'll have fun no matter what you do.
  • We were going to tell them on Christmas Day.

I'm annoyed that this didn't have to spread like it is. But I also need to put my issue at a 1st world problem and hope that the cast and crew impacted make full recoveries.
