Wedding Woes

Wednesday

Today is my Tuesday...yuck.

I've decided i'm doing dry January.  We're majorly "spring" cleaning and purging stuff from our house and i'm trying to organize as much as possible.  I'm at the point where not all of my house can be clean/organized at the same time, which means we have toooooo much stuff.

We're also 100% those people who are interested in buying an exercise machine at peak time.  Any non-bike recommendations or features that are must haves/not worth it - i know a lot of you have equipment?

Re: Wednesday

  • @Casadena I got rid of 1 large trash bag of just stuff and I'm so stoked lol! Meanwhile I'm still trying to sell 3 bags of BK's old clothes and I told M if I can't sell it by April, it's going to donation. I'm just over them in the house.
  • So Tuesdays and Thursdays, BK has virtual circle time. Which is fun for her, but I guess she got overwhelmed, because M said she recoiled into him when it loaded.
She did warm up, and M was sitting right by her in case.

Apparently she showed off her little lunch box lol! We had to provide a snack for this time and since M is working and usually has meetings in the morning, I set up a little bento box of crackers, cheese and chopped peppers. All M had to do was grab dip and water.
After dinner, she saw her lunch box of left over snack in the fridge and apparently had to finish it then.
"It BK's lunch box." she chattered as she brought it to the living room. And proceeded to sing about her peppers lmfao
She slept great last night, and I'm so glad. I was tired and just done with the past few days. Lack of sleep makes my anxiety like a hairpin trigger.

Today M is taking BK to my mum's for the afternoon. Gives BK a break and some fun because she's not entirely able to go out or anything while M is working.

Water rower @Casadena.  And I’ll also throw in @VarunaTT’s vote for her lol.  Love mine!

ugh. I was telling my friend how much I hate my blotchy red skin, which even peeks through foundation, and she said I needed a green color corrector under it.  I think I used to much and now my skin is pale and the texture is horrible.  I may even wash it all off and walk around with nothing.  Just red blotchy skin.

I also have a guy who plows my driveway for me.  But he went up in price this year.  I finally said eff it and bought a snow thrower with good reviews.  We have some snow today but it shouldn’t accumulate. But it can’t snow before the 12th, when it arrives. Like, it could - of course.  But it can’t.

  • @MissKittyDanger do you have a "Buy Nothing" facebook group for your area?  I have given so much stuff away posting there and it's nice to know its actually going to a person :)  If stuff doesn't sell it's a good option!
  • @CharmedPam and @VarunaTT I'm suuper interested in a rower (H is leaning more toward elliptical, but open to options).  Any brand/kind/features that are super important in you opinions?
  • @Casadena Yeh. I've posted. I had my mum post on her neighborhood also. No takers :\ I also asked people who I know personally or that I sold to before. Either don't need or no space.
We have local donation places we usually toss our stuff we don't need so it's at least an option.

I can’t find the one I purchased, but I will say look into ones with a lot of resistance levels.  I can’t remember how “high” mine goes to, but I’m already past it and could use more resistance for a better workout.  However, just the motion of rowing is still good for me, and developing my arms.

    Also, I forgot about this little dude - this is a great board for recovery after a workout. I use this daily (didn’t pay full price, got mine on ebay used);

  • @CharmedPam, good luck with no snow until at least the 12th!  I'll try to send some Louisiana heat your way.

@MissKittyDanger, that's a cute story about BK, singing about her peppers!  I'm with you, BK.  I like raw red or green bell peppers with dip also.

It's already been a frustrating year and it just started (sigh).  My H can do 80-90% of the repairs needed for our own home and our rentals.  But we have one big project and one medium-sized project and both of them will need to be hired out.  One of our tenants needs her whole ceiling replaced.  My H technically could do it.  Technically, but not really.  It would take him exponentially more time than hiring it out.  It's a lot of work over multiple days and I'm expecting it to be at least $2K.  That's the big project.

Coincidentally, the other unit for that same duplex, has the medium sized problem that is totally different.  This is the one that has the tenant I was ranting about the other day.  They've occasionally had drainage problems over the last couple years, but it's progressively been getting worse.  There's a clean out box that needs to be replaced.  These metal boxes start with a lid but, over the years the box starts to corrode, and the lid becomes fused to the box and can no longer be opened.  Usually these boxes are buried in the front yard, next to the house.  But, for this property, it's in the closet floor for one of the bedrooms.   So, to replace this box, we need to break up some of the flooring around it to make the hole bigger.  In order to remove the box and connect a new one in.  Then fix the flooring back again (banging my head against the wall).

They also had their kitchen sink leaking, which turned out to be an unusual problem.  When the tenant first sent me a text about it, I assumed she meant the pipes under the sink.  But no, that wasn't it.  There was a pin point hole in the spigot arm so, when they turned the water on, it sent a small stream of water going out the side.  My H fixed that while he was there yesterday and he is so crafty!

You can't buy just the spigot part at Home Depot.  You have to buy the whole faucet contraption.  But you can buy just the spigots online.  We actually need a kitchen faucet for a house we are renovating.  So my H bought a new faucet kit.  Took just the spigot out to replace hers.  Then brought the rest of the kit home and ordered the spigot online.  Tenant taken care of, at least for that, the same day.  And we aren't wasting buying a whole faucet kit, when we only need one part.

Woke up to a sheet of ice this morning. Was almost impossible to walk my dog. Skidded through 2 stop signs (I was driving super slow too, just couldn't stop, along with 3 other cars), car off the road into a ditch on the highway. Definitely not a fun ride this morning. And I even left later than normal hoping to give more time for the roads to de-ice.

Anyway, had a nice night. N came over, he came with me to run some errands and then we got takeout. Watched this show about Oak Island that he loves (which honestly puts me to sleep..lol).

    Thankfully WFH tomorrow.
Ugh! To bad your wfh day wasn’t today! My NY friends are posting that if you can stay off the roads - stay off them, they’re that bad! Driving on snow is easier at this point.
we have high wind gusts and blowing snow but that’s about it.

sounds like a headache @short+sassy, agreed that you are lucky your H really is handy!  But yeah… there’s just some things you have to hire out

Then just donate it this weekend. Why keep stuff that’s stressing you out that no one else wants until April? Free yourself!!!!!!
That's my intention in the next couple weeks.  I'm not interested in making sales.  I have clothing I haven't worn in years.   Some is too big, some too small, and some from my 20's.  It has to go.

i've started doing that too. I like selling kid stuff but I had some stuff I've held onto way too long that didn't sell so finally I donated it last week and it felt good to get it out of the house
  • No show here yet but we’re supposed to get 10+ inches tomorrow!

Work, baby, eat, sleep. H is in the office, his mom and the baby are playing downstairs. I need more coffee. Basically I’m pretty boring
  • Ugh, I'm not jealous of the ice and cold. It's not exactly nice here, but it was above 40 this morning, so I was able to run a little. Fingers crossed for a "heat wave" for you and me both, Pam!

H bought this rower in the fall. It's pretty no-frills, entry level and he was able to find a good promo. So far he likes it, but he doesn't use it enough to justify splurging on bells and whistles. I want an elliptical, but I'm watching for used. I'm hoping that the January organizing/purge trend will beat out the January get in shape trend to find me a good deal.

There’s a super sketch looking van with a drop box on the side labeled “clothing donations” that parks on my street on the weekends and it’s my favorite. My closet is a nightmare and I’ve really been trying to be better about not waiting until I can do the whole thing but just going through a drawer or a zone when I can and immediately donating. It feels so good. I do not need a size 8 suit that’s 12 years old.

I know! Of course I had to go in today. I was just reading about a 35 car pile up on a highway in Westchester. So crazy.
  • I hear it was NUTS at the other end of the state.  Nothing for us here.

We received emails that there's a case of Covid in Chiquito's 2nd grade class and in the 6th grade where Chiquita goes.

I'm thinking that the KN95s I ordered for the kids will be here the day that they test positive.

There's no winning here.  Virtual school is not functional for students at my kids' age and the lack of PPE, availability of PCR or rapid tests and current self-reporting means that we're going to be in the days of parents sending their sick kids to school w/ a dose of cough medicine and ibuprofen and calling it a day.
  • We are under a blizzard warning until noon and winter weather advisory until 6 PM.  Only expecting an inch or so of snow but we have high winds and very low visibility out of town.  DH is out of town on his route today so I'm anxious to hear how driving is for him. It's not going to get above zero tomorrow so a great day to WFH!

  • I love our elliptical. It is a residential model of the pro-forma that we have at the Y. Wasn't cheap but we got it in July 2020 so it has been used a ton. I'm back to not going to the gym again so it gets used daily until I go back. We also have a treadmill which I hate (just treadmills in general). I wish I could sell it, but H wanted it so it is his call even though he never uses it.
  • @Casadena I do love my rower.  I bought the NordicTrack high end model (can't remember the number).  My biggest problem with exercising is that I get bored really easily.  So, I wanted the one that had the screen with all of the classes.  It uses an IFit membership that was free for a certain period of time (1 year, I think, maybe more).  IFit has a load of different actual physical workout classes/programs with the rower and also has live rowing programs, where you can row rivers on many different rivers with a trainer.  I really like that (even if I'm still mad that I didn't see any animals on the African rivers I've done).  It's just so much more interesting to look at and listen to.  I also do strength workouts and yoga through IFit, so it's a complete set up that I very much enjoy.

I just found out one of my college mentors and close friends died.  We were still friends, but he and his husband lived in Cincinatti.  I've known both of them since before they were dating.  A passed away last year and I was very afraid M wouldn't survive without him (and M's health wasn't always awesome either).  M was sick, but the death was unexpected.  I'm still just in shock, TBH.

Just trying to keep working and get through the initial shock right now.

Only because of changing seasons lol I have more stuff to go into donation soon because BK is growing out of a few things probably in the next month.
  • I’m so sorry for your loss @VarunaTT

We have the cheapest elliptical/bike combo machine ever. We bought it at the beginning of the pandemic and it was like $150 at the time. I have to say to its credit, it might be super cheap, but it’s done its job. I use it as an elliptical, and FI, who likes to cycle, uses it as a bike.

Home again today and just tired with a mild sore throat. Tbh if COVID wasn’t a thing I would definitely be at work because it’s not objectively that bad. But I don’t want to expose anyone with all of my known contact. We took tests yesterday and will probably hear back today or tomorrow.

Otherwise not too much is going on here. I should be working on the house, I just feel so lazy and tired.

For years I've done the flipped hanger trick - but I don't do it seasonally, I do it yearly. I also have a small box in my closet for anything that doesn't fit right but could fit again in a few months. If I do retry it or if it goes back in the box, end of the year it goes to donation.
I haven't really done this much since beginning of 2020 so my closet is weird lol I started the box thing because I gained some weight over 2020 but it's been redistributing so things fit differently .... again.
  • The flipped hanger trick wouldn't totally work for me.  Especially since I WFH but occasionally need to go into the office during non pandemic times I can't look and say, "Oh you haven't worn your suit in over two years,"  I hardly left the state!

But I have too much that is big, for frequent office work and that isn't my style.  It's time to get rid of it.
  • So sorry for your loss, @VarunaTT, that is heartbreaking.

@levioosa, we were talking about this yesterday at work. 2 years ago, we had a runny nose or irritated throat, we’d still come into work.  It would have to be BAD to stay home.  Today, we’re all told to stay home!  Thank goodness I have the ability to wfh!

  • I feel like under the current guidelines we're only a step away from, "You can come back to work now."

    Ahhh that's fair!
I mean I don't flip everything - my blazers stay unless other reasons.

I am on one, and my sister in Kingston is on one there.  She's gotten a bunch of cool stuff.  I got a chocolate bar over the weekend!  A knock-off Toblerone.  Such a score!  And I got rid of this ab twist machine that my MIL had.  I tried to tell it, and then suddenly in the month of December there were 5 of the same machines in my area on classified ads going for only $25.  It wasn't worth the hassle anymore.
