Monday

How was everyone's weekend?  We had a snow day on Friday, so it was a pretty fun weekend of sledding, cookie baking, etc.  Hope everyone is doing okay!

Sounds like a fun day!  Well, adult Pam thinks the baking is.  Kid Pam would like the sledding.

Weekend was really uneventful.  Stayed in and finished season one of yellowstone, and started an insane paint by number painting that will probably take me well into 2024 to finish. Decided to go into work, I couldn’t stand wfh any longer. I’m just being extra careful about everyone around me.

Also,  I found a really neat app.  It’s called “motivation” and it’s $20/yr I think.  It sets reminders and motivational quotes pop up.  You enter your name to personalize them and set it to how many motivational quotes you want a day, and what kind.  Let me tell you, the quotes that come in at just the right time are eerie, but a good eerie.

  • Weekend was meh.  Saturday I bagged up a ton of clothing that I'll donate to Goodwill (FOUR giant trash bags).  Sunday DH and I got our messaging crossed and I volunteered to make dinner for MIL and FIL with us eating with them but he wanted to have a night to himself and was super grumpy.  He started to get grumpy to want to talk about it at 11 last night which is when I'm headed to super tired zone and I really resented that he wanted to vent his frustrations to me when I'm knowingly tired.

I think we're moving into being fine again.

Today I have meetings, I need to get sheets changed and I'm hoping to start to take down the tree.
  • Weekend was OK.  Friday nights we usually go out for dinner.  We were both tired so we ordered in Chinese.

SIL texted Saturday morning to say she and other SIL plus nieces and nephew were coming to town and wanted to stop by later.  I was going to take down Christmas decor but didn't want to be in the middle of it when they arrived so postponed that until Sunday.  We had a nice visit.

Sunday was online church (it was around -5 degrees), football, laundry and I got most of the Christmas stuff put away.  I was able to consolidate and organize so that felt good too.  We bought an air fryer on Cyber Monday so I made bacon wrapped pork filets in it - so good AND it didn't mess up my oven with grease spatter.

Today it's back to work.  DH is happy the Vikings fired their coach and GM.  It's below zero outside again but looks like we could get 20s and maybe 30 later in the week.

We're contemplating plans for my upcoming birthday next month.  I'd like to do a family dinner out but we'll have to see how things are going with Covid numbers around here.

Speaking of the virus - a friend tested positive just after New Year's (she's not vaxxed) and has now been diagnosed with pneumonia.  Her primary said they don't treat for that.  So she did a tele-med visit with some alternative med person who prescribed antibiotics and ivermectin.  Hope it works out for her.

  • Weekend okay.

Friday night M & I had at home date night because of lock downs. We had chinese food - aka unsafe for BK food! Which is our go to food group lol - and Saturday morning we drove out to talk to someone about our kitchen.
    Let's break it down

    Place 1 - said about $20K - low details
    Place 2 - said about $30K - high details

We're waiting to talk to another place, but I really like Place 2 and I feel like Place 1 has hidden costs - a factor M didn't think about until I said something when he mentioned about the price change between 1 & 2
Also I said Place 1 could say low end, and Place 2 could say high end and both can flux

Anyways BK had fun at grandma's. It's been awhile since she slept over because she's there most of the week and until recently, she had stuff happening on Saturday so it wasn't convenient to let her sleep over and have to pick her up early.
It'll be different next year because my mum isn't picking her up from school anymore, so it won't feel like she has her all the time.

BK had a melt down last night. We don't know if she just got overtired {which she was getting tired - we were trying to get her to bed} or if something else.
Then at like 2:30am she woke up with "scary dream" and because it's me, she won't go back to bed.
She wants to sleep in our bed, but my alarm goes off at 6:45am and I really don't want her waking up to it.
If it was a weekend, I would consider staying in her room, with her or giving up and letting her stay in our room - neither I really wanna do.

I have dye in my bathroom and I really want to do it but it's impossible to find time.
I may this week, if not then definitely this weekend.

BK is going to be 4 in 4.5 months.
I'll share a photo of her shortly. She looks like such a kid!
  • Pretty relaxed weekend, but it went too fast. We did get the ceiling fan done in the den, so it no longer looks like the 70s in there. I'm pretty excited about that. H said he googled the model and figured out that the old fan was original to the house and that model is selling on ebay for a lot more than I would have thought a used ceiling fan is worth. We might figure out whether we can clean it up and try to get something for it.

On our hike yesterday the dog's ear started bleeding a little. She has a scar on the tip of her ear from where her mom nipped her a bit too hard as a puppy. It had been stitched and totally healed, but she has somehow managed to open it up again. She hasn't acted like it hurts, but it's so hard to tell. Anyway, she opened it again this morning and shook her head, so I'm cleaning drops of blood off my office floor and H has her at the vet getting stiches. So that's a fun start to the week.
  • Both of my dates cancelled, sigh. One just disappeared, one has Covid and we are rescheduling. But the weekend was nice. I basically hibernated and enjoyed cooking for friends. I always forget how much I hate the cold but I really do.
  • A great Bills weekend! Sorry @ei34. And @mrsconn23 for the way that Colts game went.

Although H and I have some bug that we both just feel bad. I feel like I need to sanitize my entire house to rid us of whatever is going around.
  • @ei34, sledding is so fun and I'm jealous.  I've always lived in warm climates and have only sledded a few times.  The last time was a few years ago in Lake Tahoe.  They didn't have any kind of tow rope to get back up the hill, so it doubled as a major workout!

@CharmedPam, your paint by numbers sounds neat!  And it will probably be a relaxing task to do at home.  I'm going to check out the motivation app you mentioned.  I need a lot more motivation, lol.

@MNNEBride, good luck to your friend.

@MissKittyDanger, since you all aren't planning to stay in that house long, I'd recommend going for the cheaper remodel, unless it will put you all at a disadvantage over similar houses in your neighborhood or if the increased value for the home with the upgrade will be more than the extra $10K cost.  It usually isn't, but could be.  I'm just making a general statement, so take that advice with a major grain of salt.

@MyNameIsNot, Congrats on removing the ceiling fan.  I would not have thought a used ceiling fan has much or any value.  But apparently vintage value can come around for almost anything!

I got some bad news from a Teams message this morning.  A coworker who visited my cube on Friday tested positive for COVID over the weekend (sigh).  He said he felt like he had the flu for a couple days, but is feeling better today, so at least that part is good.

I looked up the CDC guidelines and also notified the big boss and the HR director.  The CDC recommended not even getting tested until it's been 5 days after the exposure, though earlier if symptoms develop.  I don't have symptoms, so that means I need to wait until Wed., until I can be tested.

I can easily WFH so I thought, in an abundance of caution, I should WFH until I can be tested and get my results. Oooohhhh, but nooooo.  Since the CDC says people who are vaccinated and boosted don't need to quarantine after an exposure as long as they don't have symptoms, I was told I need to stay working in the office and wear a mask and socially distance.  Classic (my workplace).

I was litterally thinking about you and how those went waiting for the update! Dating blows. Hopefully, the rescheduled one will be a success! And I agree on the cold.  I just want to stay in - then I get all bored from having nothing to do and just staying in.

  • sledding sounds fun @ei34

that stinks about the dates cancelling, especially the one who just disappeared.  i hope you can reschedule with the one with covid @STARMOON44
  • @short+sassy Unfortunately there isn't much we can reduce. Most of that is cabinetry, backsplash and counters costs. Everything has gone up so much :(
    Essentially we anticipate if we do this, about another 5 years in the house because regardless what price is, we're borrowing off equity {since money goes back into the house}
  • @MissKittyDanger would either place lock in costs? Can they tell you how long to anticipate being in a renovation state?  Even for just our dishwasher that was acting wonky I know if we ordered one that we wanted now we wouldn't see it until sometime between March and May.  Our kitchen is likely original and over 50 years old but I'm not in a rush until the supply chain situation is back under control.

I don't work in the same industry but one of the suppliers we use that had been tried and true previously quoting items with 1-2 day lead time has increased pricing throughout the year, is producing shoddy product and is now quoting a 6-8 week lead time. I have NEVER seen anything like this.
  • Well 2022 can shove it the same as 2021.

    TW self harm/suicide
I am having a rough time of it. On Saturday my brother attempted suicide by OD. A buddy who was with him was able to reverse it. Yesterday he told my parents he didn’t have anything else to live for but he would make sure they weren’t the ones to find him, and he gave them his wallet and phone. So they called the crisis line, which was zero help, and then had to call 911. He was 5150’d last night and I hope they turn it into a 5250.

Of course we’re having staffing issues with COVID. Had to send some staff home. We’re out of tests. Everyone is coming back positive who is getting tested. My test still isn’t back. My grandparents are still pretty sick as is my mom.

And the cherry on top: there’s a job I applied for that I really really wanted. Got through 2 hour long rounds of interviews. Then they notified me today they would be going with an internal candidate. So I’m feeling a little crushed by that. One of my closest friends is finally working there and she says she loves it. It’s a job we’ve been talking about since 2015. Im pretty sad and it was not the news I needed after the dumpster fire that this year has already been ten days in.

  • sorry to hear about your brother and all of the suckiness @levioosa I hope 2022 brings you good news soon
  • Wow, @levioosa, I'm so sorry about your brother and the job and the everything else.
  • A great Bills weekend! Sorry @ei34. And @mrsconn23 for the way that Colts game went.

OMG, it was so painful.  I have no idea why we've beaten ourselves in the last 2 games that should have been gimmes.  DH was so pissed.  I'm not sure if he's even going to watch Hard Knocks on Weds.  LOL  We made Lawrence look like a damn stud.

I'm so sorry @levioosa.  That's just some massive bullshit.

Weekend was pretty low-key.  We didn't do much.  It was kind of nice.  We did watch Nicole Byer's new special on Netflix and it was a gut-buster.
  • @levioosa I'm so sorry to hear :(

@banana468 everyone is running at least 6-9 months out. Both places said they start nothing until it's in. Place 1 said counter usually takes longer because contractors will do cabinets and remeasure before counter is cut but they have a topper that's safe to use in meantime.
Other place idk how it all goes. I still have to send measurements and a better idea on what our kitchen looks like.
  • @levioosa I am so sorry that happened.  What a shitty way to start 2022, I agree. Where is he now?

  • @CharmedPam he’s at a psych facility under a 72 hour involuntary hold. If he still poses a danger to himself after that point it gets extended to 14 days as a 5250.

  • If anyone needs me, I'll be crying into my starburst.

I just signed BK up for kindergarten
  • @levioosa what's 5250?
5150 is a 72 hour involuntary psych hold
5250 is a 14 day involuntary psych hold.

These statutes that only apply to California, but became ubiquitous because of Britney Spears and when she went under conservatorship.  There was a time in the early aughts that trying to 5150 people, especially young starlets that seemed 'out of control', was a major point of discussions on gossip blogs and occasionally broke through mainstream because of higher profile people.

Every state probably has some sort of laws on the books about involuntary holds, but they're not all called '5150'.

    Ohh! Okay.
They have that here minus names
  • So sorry about your brother @levioosa. I hope he can get the help he needs. @MissKittyDanger our contractor for our bathroom said the same thing re waiting until everything is in. The limiting factor for us is the cabinet (I think). The tiles, lights and pulls are in but haven't heard on cabinet and counter top. I hope it gets done by summer at this point. We were hoping for a start right after the new year but it doesn't look like that's going to happen.
  • @levioosa I hope your brother is able to get the help he needs and I hope your parents are too.  It's clearly a multifaceted disease and I'll be thinking about you.  You shoulder so much of a burden as a sister/daughter and clinician.

@MissKittyDanger I think that current lead time is why I have zero interest in redoing our kitchen now.  We've been in the house for 11 years.   I realize we're going to come down to a point where we need to do it soon but I am holding out hope that the market corrects itself in the next 18 mo so we can consider that room next year.  In the meantime I'll happily look into re-doing our family space where we still have pine board (not the laminate upstairs but actual pine) on the walls and weird trim and re-doing that and a bathroom would be a not insane undertaking.

The only way a kitchen refurb can work for us is if we do it in the summer when we can eat more salads, be at the marina and grill there and do more cold meals.   We'd likely be pulling down walls too so I just envision dust.
  • I'm sorry, @levioosa. Big vibes for all of your life stuffs.

Yall, I'm pissed. I have covid. I only have guesses as to where I picked it up. Really, with the time line, work is just as likely as any place else. I just found out I'm the 3rd one out this week, so it seems probable. Everyone else I know/was around would have to be a breakthrough.   It's like a really bad cold, though my temp has started to rise. Primary just called and told me to treat my symptoms and I have a virtual visit tomorrow.

So, I guess nothing much going on for at least the next 5 days.
  • Oh no @VarunaTT, that sucks! You have been so careful and done everything your supposed to.  I hope those symptoms stay mild for you

  • @banana468 the market bring our house value way up, and theoretically $30k from equity isn't a lot in comparison. We have so much to do, that we're looking at about 5 year time frame at this point anyways. We'd just rather not drop $30K if we can avoid it :\

@VarunaTT oh fuck! :( How are you feeling overall?

Yeah, we aren't looking to sell anytime soon.  If we were then we'd have to weigh options but then it would be "drop price vs. not sell for a year" given the timing for supplies.  This is also why I'm just trying to get rid of the extra crap.

@VarunaTT I hope you take care of yourself!
