@banana468 the market bring our house value way up, and theoretically $30k from equity isn't a lot in comparison. We have so much to do, that we're looking at about 5 year time frame at this point anyways. We'd just rather not drop $30K if we can avoid it :\

@VarunaTT oh fuck! :( How are you feeling overall?
Yeah, we aren't looking to sell anytime soon.  If we were then we'd have to weigh options but then it would be "drop price vs. not sell for a year" given the timing for supplies.  This is also why I'm just trying to get rid of the extra crap.
We originally thought we'd sell in a year but after going through the house we're just like "urg .... okay we have too much to do and not enough money to do asap :\ "
  • It mainly feels like a severe allergy attack or cold. The only thing that was different for me was that I had a really sore throat and the cough came in immediately.  I don't feel great, but I'm okay overall. Just mad.

I do know how you feel. I’m so sorry you got it. All the good wishes for mild symptoms, a speedy recovery, and no lasting impact.
  • Damn @levioosa I’m so sorry. That’s all awful.
  • ((hugs)) @levioosa I hope your brother can get the care he needs. Addiction is so hard.
@VarunaTT I am sorry you have covid. I think it is only a matter of time before we all get it. Don't beat yourself up about it.
@kerbohl I am with you, I think people often ruin their homes by doing too much in a kitchen reno.

Goodness, so many people having rough weekends!  @levioosa I'm so sorry to hear about your brother, and I hope that he gets the help that he needs.  That must be so hard for everyone who loves him.
@VarunaTT I hope you feel better!  So frustrating to get it, especially because if people were careful, got vaxxed, masked, distanced etc ... it wouldn't be so widespread.  This omicron seems to be getting everyone though, no matter how careful they are.  Even though symptoms are mild, it is still scary.

To everyone talking about kitchen renos, count me on that bandwagon.  It was always the plan to do it, but we were going to do it after five years in the house.  It will be 7 this year, but .... you know, Covid.  We are going to get some estimates and then are planning for the reno in July or August.  I'm hoping to save money by finding used cabinets and then replacing the countertops.  My kitchen is the original cupboards from the 60s.  A lot of the kitchen reno photos I look at, I like the before more than the after, so I'm hopeful that someone renos a kitchen with the cabinets I like.  Maybe we will get lucky.
Do you hate the cabinets or could they be refinished (if good quality). The people that bought my mom's house refinished the 1960's cabinets and even found some they added (it was a large kitchen). They looked great. I saw it when they listed the house several years after they had bought it. I would've bought the house if we stilled lived in the area!
  • @levioosa I'm so sorry about your brother! I hope he gets the help he needs. Sending you love.

@VarunaTT ugh, that totally sucks. My dad has it now too. I hope you're better soon!
  • @kerbohl Our original plan was to sand and repaint our cabinets, but as we started looking we just knew that either the work done prior was shotty or they were original {1984} cabinets. Idk about yours, but ours are like one step up from particle board
  • @ILoveBeachMusic and @MissKittyDanger I hate the cabinets, so they have to be replaced.  They are good quality, but they were designed in a weird way that limits how much can be stored in them.  If we have 80s cabinets (ones that aren't one step up from particle board) we might be in a better place.  My lower cabinets are on an angle, and come in from the countertop significantly which is just so annoying.
Hopefully, though, we can donate it and they are someone elses idea of a nice kitchen.
